[Q] Camera lense cover scratched - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I scratched the silvery plastic around the camera lense.
Is there any way to replace it?

Anyone help?

you might email this site, see if they will be getting parts soon.

Since the focus is always outside the lens, I am sure any scratches wont actually show up on the pictures. Well this is right at least for normal cameras...

Dude,he didn't even scratch the lens itself,he scratched the silver rectangle around it.
And scratches on the lens would make image quality deteriorate and maybe could be visible in macro mode.

Ah okay my bad, I didnt read it well enough lol
I thought he was referring to the cover of the lens, the piece of glass that sits in front of the lens.
I have taken pictures on my DSLR with a broken lens cover and picture quality was not different

grrr yes i scratched the silver bit.
ill email them and see how i go. anyone no of any other spare parts sites?
also would it be easy to replace?

Why don't most phones come with a camera lens cover slider such as like this
http://blog.se-nse.net/sony-ericsson-announces-the-c901-for-emerging-markets/
so people don't have to do this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEhaVmyZaBw
If anyone has a good solution for lens protection I really appreciate it...it always gets dusty, scratched overtime etc...

my nokia had it like the sonny you showed and still gets dusty. I think they should make the lens of some kind of material that doesnt get dust to stick. I remember the iphone 4 lens were uncovered and never got dusty, might just be the lens material..

dust i can live with, I'll wipe it...scratches I can't!!! i might just buy a generic cheap screen cover and try to cut it out, but it'll be a hard task to do a good job!!! I'm also afraid its going to affect the picture and camera quality with a cover like that on.

Get a case then i suggest. like the trident kraken one, nothing will touch your camera. the cheap screen protector isnt a bad idea either

Ya have a case which is actually raised where the camera is so it helps protect it, but lets say you put it in you pocket with keys (I try to never do that) Now what??? the camera is still out in the open, the backplate doesn't protect it like some other phones...my old nexus ones backplate covered the camera with an extra glass, so if it got scratched you could just replace the backplate...this phone there's nothing to protect it...this is a big deal for me as I am an avid picture taker.
Here's what I do. Buy a roll of high quality 3m clear tape like for packing. Cut out just enough to fit over the camera. And I don't mean a small circle I cut to fit the shape of the silver part. Here's a hint: don't touch the sticky part youre applying with your figertips. Firmly apply and as your doing so try to stretch it a bit. For quick snaps you won't even know its there. Otherwise peel back shoot re apply.
Yeah cheesy but it works great.
I'm digging my amaze....

sounds like a good idea but what happens when you have to take it off (for some reason) and the glass peice goes with it xD haha. im still with the screen protector even though itd make it less quality. the Kracken case would protect it, its a tank

yet another sonyericsson phone with good camera cover
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VXPxko79aI&feature=related
...a lot sonyericsson phones come with that kind of cover, with LED flash PLUS xenon flash, learn HTC, learn. With such high quality camera's now...I would assume that xenon flash and led flash (for flashlight purposes perhaps or video recording) would be a norm. I would also assume a sliding cover would also be a norm...I mean face it our camera takes better pics than many point and shoot camera's out there, and those aall have lenses that have either covers or retract...If HTC is going to advertise this as their "phone geared toward camera" they should have included such things in my opinion, then again there's alway cost, i would probably end up being around 900 bucks unsubsidized...which if you think about it is good, if you have an amazing point and shoot camera and an amazing phone all in one..

Glass piece ? There's no glass piece on the amaze lens, its just the lens housed in an aluminum cover. And its open .
My tape idea works great, just replace a new piece when its time. Any ways its a cheap pheasable solution

its is a valid idea but I have a feeling the tape will collect dust since it will have sticky borders, and doesn't really prove scratch protection (not that durable).
something like a big generic type of boxwave screen protection would do better i would say since its not as sticky and you can cut many pieces out of it when its time to replace, if you need to replace it at all!!! I'm talking about the screen covers that dont' require water and sopa (not the ones like zagg) but ones that just go on. only concern is how it'll change the picture and video clarity!!! ahhh, i'm takling too much!!
Yeah you do have to be diligent with it, replace a lot , and somthing could poke through and scratch it. But clarity is exactly why I chose tape...now I'm talkin to much...lol

oh, well usually HTC puts glass or something above the lense xD
Have scratched lenses been a problem? Are we creating a problem where none exists? Just asking. Are we covering the lens on the assumption that the design must lead to scratches, or cuz the design DOES lead to scratches

yes lenses get tiny scratches over time, they are just glass. heck even gorilla glass gets scuffed up over time, here's a guy who cracked the lens COVER, but he could fix that by getting a new backplate since its this htc phone HAS a lens cover on the backplate. imagine when people start cracking the actual lens, then the camera becomes completely useless and you'll need to get a new phone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HttusQFAp3I
up till now most phones had a glass cover on the backplate, that glass cover would get scratched up like crazy after a year of use, MY N1 had that lens cover on the backplate, I had to order a new backplate after a year so I could shoot clear pictures again...the amaze has no such glass over the actual lens... this can create big problems down the line, since its faily new people have not noticed it yet. worse yet, it can break!!!!

hmmm worth a try, I don't have all this spare money to spend on a bunch of different things though lol.
they have this too, but minimu order is 300 units, its basically the same as as a screen protector, anyone want to go in for 300 units and split it, lol.

Scratched camera... Any fix?

I notice the rear camera is slightly scratched and probably is effecting my image quality, not a big issue, but I'm just wondering if there's anyway to remove scratches from that piece of plastic protecting the camera.
I've searched on i9100 forum and found that the user had to replace the whole back housing or something.
Maybe glass cleaner? The cameras glass right?

Plastic. If it was glass, it shouldn't scratch that easy. :/
Here was the i9100 guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409609
Tape off the glass, polishing compound on a felt dremel wheel. Go slow.. Dont melt the lens...
Not rocket science...

^Is the lens glass or plastic.. I keep thinking it is plastic since it feels like plastic and got scratched easily.. Even the LED flash is slightly scratched.
The outer protective material is plastic. But stevenrogers is right, yet it can be overkill if you're not confident with a dremel. But its definately not glass we're talking about.
Sent from my coffee pot.
I have a pretty scratched up back camera. Probably from sliding it around on its back too much. I noticed that it doesn't affect its camera quality though.
If you don't notice any effect in your pictures, dont try to fix it.
The scratches on the lens are a long way from the focal plane of the lens, so they might affect the contrast a little bit, but it's unlikely that you'll notice anything.
Try this experiment. Take a hair, and hold or tape it onto the phone so that it crosses the center of the camera lens. Start the camera app, and try to find the hair....
AoN
Now having this problem myself with the scratches definitely affecting quality and having looked at the lens cover holder closely t seems it may be removable. There seems to be two clips one on each short side and one clip on the top. Is this right? Has anyone got an old back chassis they could see if they could get the cover off by releasing these clips? If it is possible then the plastic should be removable and could be replaced with a cut down screen protector.
Using a dremel and polishing compound can clear it up. Although you do have to be careful.
One thing you can do if don't have the tools or the patience is to take it to a jeweler. They can polish it out. You may have to try one or two to find someone to do it.... but there are some out there that will be glad to do it.

Can the camera lens be replaced?

I've noticed that my camera is already a little scratched up and I think a year down the line it may be pretty scratched, can the lens be replaced?
Don't think so. U probably need to replace the whole cam.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to prevent camera lens scratch? I hate having a case on the phone, but if the phone is put on a table the lens is in contact with the surface... would a screen protector work?
I would buy any clear screen protector and make the cutout. It shouldn't mess with the clarity.
I put a clear tape over the camera when its not in use,

I've replaced it before on my HTC HD2. It's not so hard, once the bevel is removed the outer glass falls right out. Got my replacement from Ebay.

Camera protection is actually one of the main reasons I love the flip cover by Samsung. The replacement back is just a tad thicker than the stock cover around the camera lens and cause it to recess a bit protecting it from surface scratches from just being placed down.

Anyone notice a scratched camera lens?

I only had my HTC One a few days when I noticed 2 small scratches on the camera lens. I had a TPU case on it but the HTC One camera lens is pretty much flush with the back. So the case did not provide much protection to the lens when I placed the phone front side up. Kind of disappointed to discover the scratches. For such a premium phone I would expect HTC to use a glass lens or something. Now I'm forced to use an Otterbox case to provide better protection and/or remember to place the phone face down everytime on my desk.

it could be alot worse. many of us are having our camera lenses crack on us outta nowhere without physical damage. id rather have the scratches personally cuz htc refuses to help..
Usually when buying s new phone the first things I do is lapping s screen protector and, if possibe cut a protective piece for the camera
I was gonna topic such a question about camera lenses before u asked this.
It's very easy to nik scratch the glass lens.
I havent figured a way yet ....but the cutting a circle from a screen protector and leaving the eye open is a good idea.
INFACT....the s4 comes with one over the lens only the eye is exposed.
Best scenario for now is to be careful and use micro fiber to clean it off every now and again.

You're not alone here man.. I mean I had my phone for a month using an incipio dual pro (which is really good and really protective) and my camera lens is COMPLETELY scratched. And I clean it every week so to avoid it scratching. But everyday I notice one more scratch. I sent an email to htc to see what they say but man, it's freaking annoying.. We bought a premium smartphone with cheap Chinese lenses.. Don't understand what they did.. My S3 was treated way more badly and it's in perfect conditions.
Mine has a lot of scratches. Luckly they are not in the middle lens area.
I have this smudge on my camera lens. So when I take pictures, if I turn my phone just the right way, there's this glare on the camera. This smudge won't come off, either. I don't know what to do. It doesn't bother all too much, but if the right amount of light and particular angles can make it a nuisance.
I've uploaded pictures to show you all how it looks. One image you can clearly see the smudge. On another it looks like nothing is there. Then I tried to take one where it's slightly there. I think it's the middle one. LoL!!

G3 lens preplacement

The phone i bought had a scratched up camera lens filter (the outermost lens) I bought a replacement on the bay but it makes the image very blurry. Where can i get a replacement lens that wont hurt the image quality? Or what material can i use to make my own, its a tiny circle after all.
Thanks

Just remove the lens and clean it with a piece of paper.
You may have accidentally touched the lens and they got dirty.
