I want some decent headphones for my gsII and even the ipad for movies, music etc.... I do not mind spending a couple hundred, but I would like to get the best possible headphone for the price. I was thinking about a pair of beats or something, but I again... I am after sound and not trend
I am in Canada if that matters, any suggestions appreciated!
thx
i use bose MIE2 headset which is specifically for mobile phones, has a very high quality in line mic, button control, sounds superb. cost is about 140 USD and best thing i've bought for my smartphone.

That would be great! I'm also looking for some good headphones with working volume control :-(
I bought a Gripphin Smarttalk advertised to work for Iphone and it works perfectly with my Sennheiser in hear headphones. It also works with my HD595 ones as well!
It has 1 button, single click to play/pause, double click to next track. It has a microphone includes for calling purposes as well and works great.
I´m using Sennheiser CX 400-II...absolutely loving them.
Good sound, perfect fit, not TO long cord and volume control.

no it only has single button, play/pause/ double click ff rw. most android phones support the mobile standard headsets with single button with inline mic. this does not include volume buttons. gotta use the phone for volume.

Klipsch Image s41.. Best headphones you can get for the buck. Bose is crap. Bose spends it money on marketing as upposed to research and development. Too bad on the kipsch the volume controls dont work but the mic/ center button is a able to pause and skip a song. Coming from my iphone 4, I miss the volume +/-
Bose On-Ear headphones are pretty nice. Though if you want something with noise-cancelling, I suggest the newest QuietComfort from Bose. They are freakin' amazing!
I recommend Atomic floyd.

I recommend the Moto s9s (bluetooth); worth every penny i paid for them.
Yes, Motorola SD9-HD has my vote. Comfort, sound volume are first rate. Battery life and Bluetooth range are also excellent. I was amazed at how close the sound comes to my $500 Shure SE530's (well, almost, since the Shure's are in a league of their own!). The bass response was a wonderful surprise. I was also very surprised by how nice Window Media Player on the Touch HD sounded and how well A2DP works between the two. A+ rating from me!

I think the best solution is to go to your local electronics store and buy a headset adapter w/built-in mic for the iphone, they work on the HD and allow you to answer calls. You can plug in any headphones that you like and use them in your laptop or music player as well.

Those sure look nice!
I'm no sound guru but do know that even tho the frequency range is wider than the skullcandy, that will only be noticeable with certain types of music. And the impedance will definitely play a part as well. Not sure whether the difference in the size of the speaker itself will be all that noticeable on such minute vessels but it might. If you really want to know you could post on an audio forum I suppose. I suspect the largest difference noticeable would be the in-\out ear types and everything else would be minor in comparison.

I couldnt say they are the best as I haven't tried everything out there, but I have given some pointers on what to look for and what's important in most cases.
Subjectively speaking, the SkullCandy iPhone issue is supreme, but I'm sure there are more expensive ones out there

Hi kjt57,
I'm in the same boat... does your MSVC work with the standard HTC headset? I had to tweak the registry to make it work. Now it needs a long press on the HTC headsetbutton to kick in. I thought that it should work with every 3,5mm headset. Can you please crosscheck with the original HTC?
I'd like to use the Ultimate Ears Metro.fi 200v or the Shure SE210 with MPA-3C adapter, but MSVC is a must. I couldn't find a local dealer who has this earphones for testing.

so... one of the main reasons i got this phone is for the beats... while it is shiipping i would love to know if there is any chance a few questions could be answered.
does beats only work on/get full richness from beats head/earphones?
how do you know if it is working?
does beats also affect speaker quality?
and if the first question is correct, is this because of the beats audio engine is already installed, or is there another reason?
any helpful answers will be met with a thanks i guess

I can't speak for the full richness of beats head/earphones, because I have only ever used my cheap $9 ones or the AUX jack in my car.
I asked myself the same question "How do i know it's working," when you plug in an AUX Jack, A small red b (circled) will show up in the notifications bar. What i did was plugged my headphones/car stereo system into my phone, and played some music and turned beats audio on, then off again and i did notice a nice difference in the sound. (See attached Picture)
You can tell if it is working my turning that option in the notification bar on/off and noticing the difference.
Speaker quality is not effected by Beats unfortunately, but the speaker itself is loud and great

If you really want some good SQ, and have high bitrate (320kbps+) or flac/other lossless formats, download neutron music player...by far the best SQ I've heard out of a cellphone when paired with the dedicated headphone amp. I turn the beats dsp off and set this up and its great. Currently using westone 4's and etymotic er4p. Never tried over the ears, I prefer in ear. I do use the beats dsp when playing slacker radio. It does muddy up the mids a slight bit, but seems to me to pick up both ends of the spectrum and bring the soundstage just a bit more forward.

Not sure, I've never tried them. I also have a pair of Shure SE215's, which are single driver. Obviously not going to be as good as the turbines driver, but I seem to prefer multiple armature in-ears versus single. I feel like the details are a bit better seperated, yet still blended well.

try something from Denon or Audio Technica!
I use the stock buds at work as they allow me to listen in on conversations of colleagues (meaning I can hear them when they try talking to me). If I want good sound away from home, I use a shure 215 se. There are pricier options, but for 100€ it's really great sound. At home I use a sennheiser MD 598 if I really want to have it like the musicians inteted their songs. But the sennheisers are open back and so sound gets out and my family is annoyed by that if they wantto watch TV. So I bought the Yamaha Pr 500. they are closed backs and almost don't leak sound, even if I use my Fiio alpen to crank it up. The Yamaha is a little tinted to the lower frequency side, but it sounds awesome to hear all the bass lines. And with EQ you van tweak the sound to your liking. But what I found is, that any over the ear headphones with big drivers really gives a much better sound stage. When using my big cans I almost always get back to live tracks over studio recordings, because it sounds as if you were standing in front of the stage. I recently had to thin out my music collection on SD card to make space for higher quality recordings. Now the minimum I use is 160 kbps and I have tracks up to 320. and the difference is amazing.
Sorry for this rather long post, but I hope you can get something out of it.

Agree. Headfi.org is great if you research audio stuff.
Another vote for head fi. Watch your wallet though. The headphone out on the Note 3 is very good. A high quality headphone is worth it. Personally I use a Vmoda m100 most of the time. It's a fantastic headphone if you like your bass. I also have a pair of Audiotechnica A900s which still sound amazing after 5 years since I purchased it. For ultimate portability I use Sennheiser IE8s which still blow me away with their bass and soundstage.
Good luck with your search. There are lots of good choices.

Yes, definitely. These come with different size buds and stabilizers depending on your ear size. I don't even know I'm wearing these when working out for long periods of time. They have another version with volume controls and mic for $30 more.

I tried my Sennheiser HD650s plugged into the N3 and they sounded okay but not great, problem is the N3 doesn't really have enough power to drive them. Through a headphone amp or external DAC they should be fine, I tried the N3->HLLY SMK-III DAC->Sennheiser HD650 and that sounded awesome.
Anyone using after-market earbuds with their Note 3? Preferably one with volume control. I am looking for one to replace the stock Samsung earbuds. So far I have researched the:
1. Klipsch S4A ii (but I've heard the volume controls don't work on our Note 3)
2. a-Jays Five (not easy to find)
I'm using the old Apple ones, as I can't have those torturous in-ear plugs in for more than 10 seconds without developing a massive migraine. (an issue most women suffer from, but they only sell those torture devices these days.. Or earbuds the size of a fist.)
The mic and clicker work, the volume controls don't.

You should look in to these ones. There the normal in-ear style and I've heard the volume controls work;

Literally the best ear buds for under a $100 and they are $25. They sound better then some $80 Bose buds a friend has.

I rock these guys from etymotic: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007TCXI06/ref=pd_aw_sims_9?pi=SL500_SY115
They go deep into your ear canal so you get great noise isolation. They are not for everyone though as some of the tips are uncomfortable. I got the custom ear molds done so now I have a perfect comfy fit though. They arenot bass heavy because they are suppose to output a flat sound without modifying the signal. That being said if you get Viper4Android you can pretty much make it sound however you like including head thumping bass Ala beats.
I've been very impressed with SoundMAGIC E10 Earphones. Sounds soooo much better than the stock headphones and at a reasonable price.

I had a pair of the Klipsch's, you're right the vol controls don't, it seems they only work on the iPhones. The Sound is AMAZING, but for me, I can't keep them in, they don't fit right and when they become loose or loose the seal, the sound quality goes WAY down. I don't have issues with most other bud styles though
