I want some decent headphones for my gsII and even the ipad for movies, music etc.... I do not mind spending a couple hundred, but I would like to get the best possible headphone for the price. I was thinking about a pair of beats or something, but I again... I am after sound and not trend
I am in Canada if that matters, any suggestions appreciated!
thx
i use bose MIE2 headset which is specifically for mobile phones, has a very high quality in line mic, button control, sounds superb. cost is about 140 USD and best thing i've bought for my smartphone.

Does the volume up and down buttons work? I haven't heard of many earphones that have those buttons working for the galaxy s II, including mine, klipsch s4i.

That would be great! I'm also looking for some good headphones with working volume control :-(
I bought a Gripphin Smarttalk advertised to work for Iphone and it works perfectly with my Sennheiser in hear headphones. It also works with my HD595 ones as well!
It has 1 button, single click to play/pause, double click to next track. It has a microphone includes for calling purposes as well and works great.
I´m using Sennheiser CX 400-II...absolutely loving them.
Good sound, perfect fit, not TO long cord and volume control.

no it only has single button, play/pause/ double click ff rw. most android phones support the mobile standard headsets with single button with inline mic. this does not include volume buttons. gotta use the phone for volume.

Klipsch Image s41.. Best headphones you can get for the buck. Bose is crap. Bose spends it money on marketing as upposed to research and development. Too bad on the kipsch the volume controls dont work but the mic/ center button is a able to pause and skip a song. Coming from my iphone 4, I miss the volume +/-
Bose On-Ear headphones are pretty nice. Though if you want something with noise-cancelling, I suggest the newest QuietComfort from Bose. They are freakin' amazing!
I recommend Atomic floyd.

Hey guys,
Christmas is on the horizon, and im interested in some premium earphones.
Can i have some good recomendations for the Galaxy S2?
All price ranges acceptable, they just have to be fantastic quality.
- preferrably available in UK
- MUST NOT need an adapter to work.
I just want to plug them in & get fantastic sound quality.

Yes, i was looking at dre beats series but was worried they were just overpriced hype with a name & endorsment.
Plus they say made for ipod all over them, was worried they will not work on our S2 without one of those adapters etc.

No to Beats by Dre.
If you are looking for some quality in ears, then you need to be looking at Westones, Senns, EarSonics, Etymotics, Ultimate Ears trifle fis. Those are just some brands you need to consider.
All vary on the type of music you listen to, the type of sound you prefer, i.e, cold, natural and such. Amount of bass you want. Etc.
I listen to alot of different things,
Trance, dance, rock & even sometimes pop.
There are sooo many different types & brands - its a hard choice.
Essential that they work on s2 without any adapter though.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Do you have a budget in mind?
Monster Turbine pro copper is supposed to be the the dogs b*****ks! but costs more than the whole dog
I am using denon 751 which i hate, cos it lacks noise cancelling and bass
My mate is a beats fan, but he had 3 sets of Dr Dre beats returned cos the cables are weak and snap easily
I have used some sennheisers before and was good.
My last one was Klipsch S4 and I loved them.. Bass and noise reduction was good in a reasonable price bracket. unfortunately I broke them (car door mistake) and Denon was in the sales, hence my mistake
Price isnt really a problem, but common sense is. Earphones shouldnt cost almost what i paid for my phone. LOL
A friend has just recommended me the cheap zagg smartbuds - but seriously, zagg audio? ... Sounds more like money wasted.
The ibeats are on £79.99 on amazon, whilst the tour version is £119.99 - other than the flat cable, is there much difference in sound?
(and again, ibeats even sounds like ipod - these gonna work on the Galaxy S2 without any adapter?)

apparently they are supposed to sound the same, I have tried the headphones , (not tried the ear phones tho) and they are LOOOOOOUD!
the flat cable is supposed to be anti tangle.
that was testing with it plugged into my S2 too
At the moment, im torn between the klipsch S4 & the dre ibeats.
Both are cheap, (which is a little worrying lol)
£39.99 vs £79.99
Ive noticed klipsch do a S4A model for android phones (more than double the price at £89.99), does that mean the S4 wont work on Android without an adapter?
Ive heard mixed reports, some say the klipsch S4's, although cheaper than dre's ibeats - offer better sound quality & comfort. Whereas the dre's are metal & have better style.
Damn this is confusing, ive been looking all day! lol
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Personally is buy Bose IE2 headphones like did.
The answer call buttons works, skip tracks doesn't. But I use poweramp and use the multi pause function to do so.
The fit is second to none, and the sound is equal to that too.
Klispch (sp?) Are supposed to be good but the dre beats are just over priced crud in my honest opinion.

Yes they are now past their prime, hence lower price 2 years ago they were worth a lot more.
Other headphones have surpassed them now. Brainwavez m2 or m3, PFE 012s, etc etc better sounding.
It's a never ending cycle lol, the headphones market has tons of them now making it hard to choose without listening to them.
I suggest if you are going to use the phone as your main player than don't spend alot as the DAC sucks and you won't hear the best of the headphones.

I am a headphone junky... (I couldn't possibly name all the ones I've ever had haha) but all I can say is beats are overpriced for what they are. If you want a truly good pair of headphones, get the ultrasone hfi 580's. The sound is absolutely amazing!! Has a lot of bass but is is very tight, and not muddy (like the beats are). Also there is no lack in the highs and midrange. Of all the headphones I have used, there is nothing that comes close in my opinion. They are about $140 so they also fall in your range.
I just got the Klipsch S4 Reference and they look and sound amazing!

150...FOR EAR BUDS??
I can't see that ever being worth it. I got some sennheiser cx200s (I think) recently on sale for 15 and they're awesome.
Klipsch, Sennheiser, Shure - all well respected high-end brands
Skullcandy is well below the price range you state but they offer good "bang for your buck", especially if you buy a set of Comply foam eartips for their earbuds.
Bose and Beats are massively overpriced crap.
Q&A or Accessories... Q&A or Accessories... where oh where do I throw this thread?
Moved to Accessories.
I am using Ultimate Ears 600 with my SGS 2, got for $78 from Amazon during Christmas sale. You can find it around $80 on amazon from time to time; however, you will probably want to buy 600vi, it has mic and controls and as much as I know everything but volume control works there. These are armature headphones and renewed superfi 5, so if you listen bass and not music, I would not recommend though. Klipsch S4 are also good from what I heard, but according to this and this theme, UI has better build quality quality, but S4i sounds better.... but I cannot personally comment how they differ. One thing, I am happy with UI 600.
Also just noticed that superfi 10 on sale again. This are one of the best IEM on the market. There is also vi version, with mic and so on, but I never saw it to go on sale, and you can buy replacement cable with mic for superfi 10 from logitech website anyway.
And yes, should agree about beats, as overpriced crap made and sold my same company who sells overpriced cables.
Don't get Beats.. They're overpriced useless things. Quality of sound and build is nothing compared to better companies such as Bose and Sennheiser. I'd suggest getting a pair of those. I have CX 400's and they're very good. Of course you can get higher-priced pairs. They really do make a difference in sound. For people who say otherwise, try a pair of 200 dollar headphones/earbuds and then try a pair of 10 dollar JVCs... It's night and day.

150 is nothing lol my throw around everyday ear buds are shure scl4's which were like $399 when I got them and my other pair is a pair of shure se 535's which are like $499 (I only use them on stage as in ear monitors and when I cant find my other ear buds and I'm in a rush) lately for my phone I've been using the Monster mobile jamz because it has the control talk mic and the sound quality is decent.
I would also like to add that it should have a mic as well.

To each his own i guess.. The earbuds sound awesome.. Deep bass and very very clear. For everyone that says they don't- well that's just stupid. They could be a little over priced but the sound quality is the best I've heard coming out of ANY earbuds. Even uses Monster cable.. (high-end stereo/speaker wire).. Depends who you are.. Someone like me is't gonna spend any less than $100 bucks anyway, regardless of what kind of headphones i get and when you get up in that price range (unless your spending $3/$400), your selection greatly gets narrowed down.. I landed on beats and they sound fweekin great..

Then you may not have heard Klipsch Image S4's. For $70-$80 they're pretty hard to beat in terms of earbuds. Tight bass, clear highs and mids, you'll be hearing sounds in your music you never

Agreed 100 fold. Beats are for people who don't know anything about balanced sound and just want muddy thumping. They don't even have as much of a kick as they should for what they're going after.
I personally have Phonak Audeo PFEs. I bought them for use with an mp3 player and not a phone so I'm not sure how they'd work out there. I am one who with always tune my equalizer to get the sound I want, and the PFEs are great in that regard. They have a very balanced sound which lets me EQ to my hearts content without getting any sort of distortion. The low end is a bit lacking compared to other headphones I've had (like Hippo VBs and CX300s) but they have better mid and high range to compensate.

If you're an audiophile I'd recommend avoiding bluetooth. I've been through 4 Bluetooth adaptors, the latest of which is a sony mw-600. I use shure headphones, and have a decent music system, and through both the sound is noticeably lower quality, almost like the bitrate has been lowered. Makes the music sound smudged. makes me sad,I like wireless.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I bought a mw 600 because reviews said it was good sound quality, well, belive me, its not, sounds like music has been recorded at 64k sometimes, waste of money, anything approaching loud and it distorts, and as for the design of the volume slider, must rank among worst ideas ever. Swapped with my mate for a 5 year old Nokia headset, sound quality much richer, fuller bass and doesn't distort even at max volume, compares well even against my gf's beats in ear wired headphones and they sound amazing. Use Power Amp!

like many posted above. wireless headphones just dont cut it with wired headphones, and if ya really do love your music, use an ipod for your music playback. I find most phones DSP just arent all that good. but a really good earphone would atleast make it sound abit better. I myself uses the Sennheiser IE8 earphones. might cost an arm and a leg. but is one of the best earphones currently.
however to answer your question with earphones for $100, to be honest. most sub $100 earphones arent all that different than a good name branded (Sennheiser/Sony/skullcandy/kicker/etc) $30 earphones. you just paying extra for fancy packaging and brand name title. once again, be it a pair of earphones/headphones or even speakers for your home stereo or car. those sound producing devices is one thing I dump the most money on. because at the end of the day they are the only thing you will ear the most difference. a $1000 speakers system on a $20 cd player will always sound better than a $1000 cd player with $50 speakers system.
That said, if you can dig deep into your pocket, try the iBeats in ear headphones or Klipsch S4.
Thanks for the quick reply
First I must clarify one important thing , I really believe in specialization(i.e using a high quality pamp to listen to music) but carrying two devices in my pocket is just a deal breaker
Two questions if that's not too much to ask
will the s4 have a big gain over 30$ monitors (which is the best)?
If I one day consider buying a budget pamp which one will provide the best music experience ( other than the ipods -i HATE apple)?
And once again thanks for the reply

FIRST: pre-amp arent really use on personally earphones/heaphones. It is mostly used on home hi fi big headphones. (you know those giant ear cup ones)
SECOND: yes and no. all pre-amp will do is make it kinda louder lol. when buying earphones/headphones look at the Impedance on them. most have pretty high ohm and that means more power is needed to produce a meaner punch sound. reason I went with the Sennheiser IE8 earphones is because it has a very low impedance: 16 Ohm to be exact. for more details google impedance and ohm on speakers/headphones/earphones. will give you greater details.
Having decided to keep my N3 even tho I'm not bowled over by the audio, I'd like to reach out and ask which earphones you guys use, and rate highly? I'm in the UK
Thanks.
What's your budget and what do you look for in a pair of them? Quality over sound or vice versa. What type of music genres? Etc... do you want more bass or more average or more vocals to pop out?

try something from Denon or Audio Technica!
I use the stock buds at work as they allow me to listen in on conversations of colleagues (meaning I can hear them when they try talking to me). If I want good sound away from home, I use a shure 215 se. There are pricier options, but for 100€ it's really great sound. At home I use a sennheiser MD 598 if I really want to have it like the musicians inteted their songs. But the sennheisers are open back and so sound gets out and my family is annoyed by that if they wantto watch TV. So I bought the Yamaha Pr 500. they are closed backs and almost don't leak sound, even if I use my Fiio alpen to crank it up. The Yamaha is a little tinted to the lower frequency side, but it sounds awesome to hear all the bass lines. And with EQ you van tweak the sound to your liking. But what I found is, that any over the ear headphones with big drivers really gives a much better sound stage. When using my big cans I almost always get back to live tracks over studio recordings, because it sounds as if you were standing in front of the stage. I recently had to thin out my music collection on SD card to make space for higher quality recordings. Now the minimum I use is 160 kbps and I have tracks up to 320. and the difference is amazing.
Sorry for this rather long post, but I hope you can get something out of it.

Agree. Headfi.org is great if you research audio stuff.
Another vote for head fi. Watch your wallet though. The headphone out on the Note 3 is very good. A high quality headphone is worth it. Personally I use a Vmoda m100 most of the time. It's a fantastic headphone if you like your bass. I also have a pair of Audiotechnica A900s which still sound amazing after 5 years since I purchased it. For ultimate portability I use Sennheiser IE8s which still blow me away with their bass and soundstage.
Good luck with your search. There are lots of good choices.

Having decided to keep my N3 even tho I'm not bowled over by the audio, I'd like to reach out and ask which earphones you guys use, and rate highly? I'm in the UK
Thanks.

The output from the N3 is extremely good. If you're not feeling that then either you're using dodgy earphones or poor quality source material. Well recorded 24/96 audio through my Shure E3C earphones sounds pretty amazing.
Really can believe no one has recommended Etymotic. I picked up a set of these

And I am as happy as I can be with them. You can't beat it for under $100 IMO. I plan on investing in their ER-4s based on my experience with how impressed I am with the hf4. I never thought I would be paying as much for a set of headphones as I would a phone....

What's your budget and what do you look for in a pair of them? Quality over sound or vice versa. What type of music genres? Etc... do you want more bass or more average or more vocals to pop out?

Firstly thanks for the replies everyone. I wasn't receiving post updates.
I listen to Led Zeppelin a lot. Rock music. Like to hear the bass too and mid range .
I think I'm more inclined to use in ear buds, so shall look through the thread and check recommended types.
Thanks all
I picked up a pair of Bose IE2 a few days ago and blown away with audio quality and comfort. Kinda pricey but well worth it.

Thanks ill have a look. I'm just used to those silly shaped in ears that came with my old iPhone 5 - I imagine Bose would be better than those!?

Yes, definitely. These come with different size buds and stabilizers depending on your ear size. I don't even know I'm wearing these when working out for long periods of time. They have another version with volume controls and mic for $30 more.
Returned for a refund the Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 bluetooth headset because the buds were uncomfortable and popped out during movement.

You can use over the ear headphones with the N3 but I wouldn't recommend it. I tried my Sennheiser HD650s plugged into the N3 and they sounded okay but not great, problem is the N3 doesn't really have enough power to drive them. Through a headphone amp or external DAC they should be fine, I tried the N3->HLLY SMK-III DAC->Sennheiser HD650 and that sounded awesome.
