I think I know this but I would like to make sure.
I flashed around 8 roms. My ? is can I delete old zip files of roms on my sd card?
I would appreciate any input.
Thanks
Budnick
No need to keep them on the card unless you want to reflash them.
Thats what I thought. Thanks for the speedy response
Budnick
Atleast keep the one you are using at the moment on there, also move the radio file out of the root of your sd card in case you need to boot in to recovery
Transmitted using my Sagem 835 mobile communication device.
True, you don't need to keep any on the card when you're done. I always keep the one i'm testing, and the last stable rom that i LOVED ...(just in case!) but if you're short on space....just through it on your computer and save it there for a rainy day. or if you're totally committed...toss it !
Very good idea to put on compter
Thanks and have a nice day on the first day of summer!

Hey there folks.
Just a quick one here. But does using a class 6 sd card in a G1 make much difference to the running of it?
I am talking of a rooted phone using A2SD.
I currently have the class 2 8GB card that came free with the phone but can grab a class 6 one pretty cheap off ebay.
Would it make a noticeable difference?
For A2SD alone, I think it won't make a big difference, especially if your reading speed is good enough.
I have decided that I will go for a class 6 card but I have a few choices and not sure which one to go for:
http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?sea...archstring=8gb+micro+sd&page=search&pa=search
The samsung one looks pretty good.
These prices reflect very closely the ones on ebay for the same/similar products so I would probably just buy from them.
Many Thanks

Get any class 6 you want but if you have alot of apps class 6 would be better or if you plan on using a hero rom or something that uses swap.
Cool.
Yes I am using a swap partition and have a fair few apps too.
I have just ordered the Samsung one as it had a higher transfer speed than the trandcend one.
Thanks
i just have a quick follow up question, as i have been wondering this exact same thread topic for awhile now (hope the OP doesnt mind)
something that says "10mb ram hack" means it is using the swap function right?
and also, if i buy a new sd card, do i need to just stick it in and (if A2sd is already installed on the custom rom) it will work? ive been holding on buying one because i didnt know whether i would have to go thru the whole root process again or something
many thanks
If you already have root access, you shouldnt have to do the whole process again.
I just got my Class 6 yesterday and switched it over with no problems (running SuperD).
I did it this way and it worked fine (senior members might have a better method):
I put in the new card and booted to recovery. Im using Amon recovery. I then just did a full wipe, and then partitioned using the command in the recovery window. After that, I enabled USB access from recovery and dragged the radio, spl, and rom to the newly partitioned sd card. I flashed radio, then spl, and then the rom and all worked fine.
I did have to install all my apps again, so if your wanting to save the apps you have installed now, you might need to do it a different way. I dont even think you actuallyl have to even flash the radio and spl again if you have already done it. I just did it to be sure.
Hope that helps a bit.

if you are just swapping sd cards, there is no need to flash SPL and Radio again. Those are flashed to the PHONE.
easiest way to swap sd cards quickly and easily is this...
use AMON-Ra recovery
go to console-
type in switchrom
now type switchrom -s sdchangebackup <---- you can change that name, this is just for demo purposes.
once it creates a nand backup and saves your stuff you have one or two choices.
1)pull that sdcard out of your phone, put it in a card reader
2)boot into android and mount the sdcard
once that is done, drag all the files from the sdcard into a folder on your desktop named whatever you would like (mine is SDSwitch)
now turn phone off and put NEW sdcard into phone. Boot into recovery and partition it using amon-ra recovery.
put the NEW sd card into card reader and drag all files from your backup folder onto the new card.
put NEW sdcard back into phone and boot back into recovery and go to console.
type switchrom
and then switchrom -r (a list will come up if you have other switchroms you can choose them but if you want to go back to EXACTLY what you had before just choose the one you named earlier in this process)
once it restores everything, boot it up and test it out. it should be back to where you were with no problems.
it seems like a long and tedious process but it only takes about 5-10 minutes and your phone is back to normal without having to reflash a ROM and get it back to all your apps and customized stuff.
This is what you need http://tinyurl.com/ygukuan
Top of the line right there^^ you'll never need another one, trust me.

Yeah I heard...but I haven't seen one, somebody else said they are too big for the sd slot on the G1....can't confirm that though, either way the TOPRAM, sdcard is the top of the line as far as Class 6 goes.
I'm running a Centon 16GB class 6 card (1GB A2SD EXT3, 96MB linux-swap) in my G1 and everything's running lightning fast.
I hope so I just ordered an 8 gig micro sd card class 6 from amazon. I have a class 4. I hope I can tell a difference. I want to run Hero Roms and from what I am reading you need the class 6 to do so.
yes, for hero roms, yes yes yes yes yes. yes and yes

Thank you, worked perfectly!!!
Recently I've been trying out various Android builds, and it's really handy being able to back up my entire system by just copying my SD contents to my computer.
Also, I have 2 SD cards, and it's great being able to play around with one and then easily go back to my 'stable' build on the other SD card.
Though the future aim is to enable Android to load from NAND, it's also quite cool being able to run from the SD card, specially for testing new builds & having a quick and easy way to return to a previous setup.
Could it be possible to 'flash' WinMo roms to an SD card?
After booting the WinMo rom installed to NAND, a small program apparently similar to HaRet could launch the ROM that is installed on the SD card.
If possible, what would be needed to make it happen?
Cheers!
WOW ! That now is a very good idea ! Would make things MUCH easier when trying out other ROMS though batt-drain would be higher when running from SDcard, but anyway it would be just for testing ..............
Yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned about the battery drain due to the fact it's just for testing, and that current Android builds seem pretty good with the battery even though they run from the SD.
Glad you like the idea too!
sorry chaps... not possible.

Could you please expand upon this (i.e. why it can not be possible)?
i accidentally flashed an aosp kernel instead of a sense kernel and now i get an instant freeze right when the os boots up. i also accidentally left PG05IMG on the root of my sd so now i really have no way to get to recovery to flash the correct kernel. im a dummy i know. any help please? i dont have money right now to go buy a card reader.
Do you have access to a computer with ADB setup, or better yet, do you have an extra sd card laying around that you can just plug in in place of your main sd card?
If you have a computer with ADB setup, then you can boot your phone into recovery rather than HBOOT (I think it's vol-up+pwr?). But if you have a spare sd card, then that would make your life much easier as you could use HBOOT then.
Keep me posted. All the best,
-HG
HG you should change your name to OG because youre an original gangstahhhh!! the whole switching the sd card worked like a champ! loaded up the new kernel on the spare sd and flashed, shut the phone off and put my original sd back in and now shes purrrrrrin like a kitten.
many thanks. ill be doing both thanks in your sig.
I'm glad my idea helped you out. It's always a good feeling to have problems fixed quickly huh?
Donations and Dropbox referrals are always extremely appreciated, sir. But even hitting the "Thanks" button is kind enough
Happy flashing! All the best,

Please help a noob out here. I know the answers are out there, but I am not sure which method is best to use. I am familiar with rooting on my android cellphone, but I am not so sure about the methods used to root the nook tablet. They seem a bit more complicated and I want to make sure I have the correct info well explained.
I would like to know the following:
Where can I find the thread concerning installation of CWM/Rooting and how to back up my tablet before I I do anything else? (I have learned this the hard way, once. Never again will I proceed before backing up so I can restore it when I screw it up)
What is the most stable ROM that has been developed for the tablet so far?
Where can I find the instructions on how to install this ROM so that even an idiot (aka, me) can install this?
Maybe I am just skittish, but I hope you understand.
Thanks in advance!!!
Are you looking to root and run your ROM from SD card? Or would you rather install things to internal?
Thanks for replying. If I rooted and ran ROM from SD card, would that leave the Nook with the ability to run as originally designed if I opted to do that? (by basically removing the SD card and letting the Nook boot normally?) I have never used that option on any of my rooted phones. If so, that is probably the way to go. What do you recommend? I know it is a risk either way, but it sounds like running the ROM from the SD card seems safer.

I just bought a 32GB class 4 SD card tonight, so I am ready.....
This thread might be a good place to get you started. Or at least start thinking about how you want to get set up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528625
Using this method by albertwertz allows you to put regular root, CWM, and CM7 (most stable CyanogenMod ROM so far) all on an SD card. He even includes step-by-step videos and does a good job explaining. His YouTube channel contains more videos of various ways to root, too.
If you want everything on your SD card and not have to worry about messing with internal, a method like this is probably your best bet.
Thanks. I tried following Alberts method step by step twice now, and everything seems to go right as far as making the SD card, but when I insert it into my 16GB Nook Tablet, running 1.4.2, and partitioned at BN, it will not reboot. The only way it will reboot is if I take the SD card that I made to root the tablet. It will reboot into normal operation mode. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am really getting frustrated.

Try turning your nook off, insert sd card, then plug it in to charger or usb cord. Some model nooks have to plugged in to boot from sd card.
I finally got it to work. Everything went well. CM7 installed, looked great. When I installed Google Apps. It comes up to the registration screen, but when it tells me to touch the android, the tablet does not register my touch and I can't move past the screen
Finally got everything working. I don't know why I got all worried. Had to reinstall a couple of times and fix permissions. Just like always. I must say I really like CM7 compared to the Nook interface. Nice job Devs! Thanks for everyone's help pointing me in the right direction.

Is it possible to flash a new ROM without having to purchase an sd card? If not, is there a minimum memory card I would need.? A bit new at this. Thanks in advance for the help.

I believe i've saved ROMs to the internal storage before, but don't recall for sure. I've been flashing ROMs since the first ROMs for the G1. If I have learned anything it's this:
Dont ask for ETAs
Read instructions ATLEAST 2 times top to bottom.
Do not cut corners.
Read instructions again
be sure you know what your doing before you do it
nandroid nandroid nandroid
If you cut corners or do things that you THINK will be ok, you're going to end up with a really fancy paperweight.
