Hi,
Is the stock recovery included in my original nandroid backup of my stock ROM?

Not unless you have checked recovery when doing the backup (i.e., not by default.)
Whatever, you can download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197

Ok, so the process to going back 100% stock is:
1. Reflash my backup stock ROM
2. Reflash the stock recovery ROM
3. Unroot
4. Factory reset
Is this correct?

I would say so yes, but add any system apps if you deleted some of them before unrooting.

I don't think so. IMO factory reset just deletes user apps and resets the settings to default. I may be wrong though, since I've never tried it.

What is actually the whole purpose of this effort? Are you going to RMA the phone? In that case, just flash it via KDZ, greet it with 3-finger salute when done and take it to the service center/shop.

It would matter if they decline to honor the warranty if they see traces of rooting/custom ROMs.

I do not really get how they are supposed to see traces of rooting on completely bricked phone. Move on.

It doesn't have to be completely bricked. I can foresee many types of hardware issues such as failing buttons, failing touchscreens that would require an RMA.

Yeah ok, whatever. Topic exhausted

Stock rooted/deodexed rom?

Does anyone have a ROM for this phone that is COMPLETELY stock but rooted/deodexed? I want a rom that has NOTHING removed so I can choose what to remove.... That would be lovely

i wiped data before flashing debloat. Everyone is saying not to but i think clockwork fixed some of its problems with the phone. like the fact that it boots into recovery when you have it turned off and plugged in. mine hasnt done that and this is the first day ive been rooted

When you flash the rom, it will not automatically wipe data. I have set it to not do that since it put me in a boot loop with that set. Do not flash the rom you posted. That will completely revert you back to stock. My rom is that exact rom just deodexed and rooted with busybox installed. No other modifications made at all.

Are you rooted already? If not, root your phone first and get s-off...but assuming you have that done and already have a custom recovery (from rom manager), you just flash it via clock work recovery.
I think I'll keep your rom on my SD card as a backup after what I went through on Das BAMF
As a quick update, my internet is poking along right now... but this is taking twice as long as I thought it would since that dumb verizon golf game in itself is 139 MB...that app by itself almost doubled the size of the rom.
OK that method of flashing is what I though I'd have to do... So there is NOTHING removed from this ROM, right?

[Q] Can I flash XWLS8 on stock kernel?

So yeah, I would like to know if it is possible to flash it on stock 4.0.4, unrooted kernel with Odin. I seem to have a sane chip.
And can I do a backup using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840223 without tripping the flash counter, rooting or overwriting the stock recovery (so without any traces of doing so)?
yeah you can, odin / mobile odin (pro version will get you rooted while flashing)

It's a temporary recovery so does that mean it will be removed on the next boot and doesn't permanently replace the stock recovery or leaves any traces?
CMW? gone once you flash a stock ROM.
After that, you can flash it again and be able to restore the back up you made.

you can flash LS8 via odin. for rooting you can flash Philz latest CWM.
incase if you want to unroot flash back stock KS8 via odin.
Apparently the backup worked, I got no triangle on boot and the recovery disappeared when I powered my phone off so everything went just how I wanted

Official ROM don't trigger those 2.
Triangle away clears them, as well as a USB jig.
Mobile odin also don't trigger them.

Now that I have made a backup of everything, should I install XWLS8 with a full wipe or not? Which one do you recommend? And I have a sane chip so is it possible to brick my device that way?
Sane chip = off the hook.
Try flashing without wipping, if you get lag or issues than yeah, factory reset.
Works both ways.

[Q] Flash counter

Hi everyone. Is is true that there is a flash counter on the S3? So even if I flash a stock rom (which i did) with Odin, it'll still increase and so I wont be able to use warranty if i ever need to?
I don't plan to root my phone, and i just used a different stock rom because my old one had the freezing-bug that happens a lot lately, so what do i have to do in case i ever have the need to send the cell to repair?
Thanks in advance.
it's true.
no, stock roms don't increase it

I hope this is the right topic and I tried to find my problem but I couldn't.
While ago I had CWM flashed and Cm 10.1 running. Then there was some problem with my kernel so it kept freezing 1-5 minutes after boot. So I reflashed Samsungs ROM and it worked again. Then I flashed CWM again and tried to reset the flash counter using Triangle Away. It worked but always went back to one after reboot. So I installed CM 10.1 again and tried again and same problem.
When I had CM 10.1 installed first it worked perfectly. I could flash CWM and it wouldn't increase the counter.
I just flashed it again and tried to reset it again, but still the same problem. Do you guys have any idea what to do?
Thanks in advance
you have to be stock for it to be zero. CWM is not stock
Simple procedure
Run triangle away
Flash stock Rom
Enter recovery and factory reset (wipes data and internal sd)

Okay so basically I'm just holding on and leave it like this since I don't need my warranty right now and if I need it I'm running Triangle Away and then flash Stock.
I still think it's weird because it worked a couple days ago.

I think your confusion has arisen because originally you had an old bootloader....then when you flashed back to Samsung Rom if it was a later version it may have updated bootloader and that's why it always shows 1 now.You can flash back to the older bootloader if you want and your situation should be back to where it was in first place
Okay that makes sense. So if I wanted it to be zero and back on stock I would reset it, power off then in download mode then flash stock ROM again and then I'd a data wipe and my counter should be zero. Am I right?
Thanks for your help!!!

[Q] I think I have two recoveries running parallel

So I had originally had TWRP/Hyperdrive on my phone, and switched to CWM/Cyanogenmod. I noticed now that I seem to have two different recoveries on my phone, because if I hold up+home+power I can go to a different version of CWM Recovery than if I use the Rom Manager app to boot into recovery. How would I rectify this? Would it involve wiping the /boot partition? I don't know where/how recoveries are stored so I don't understand how I can have two.
Doing a fresh install of a ROM has not resolved this by the way. And actually currently, I can't hold the buttons and boot into recovery at all, it gets stuck on the Samsung logo. I can only get into recovery via Rom Manager or Reboot options if I'm in android.

That's what I would have figured would fix it, because I'm pretty sure that's supposed to wipe /boot, but I found out I cannot flash kernels on my phone for some reason and when having to fix softbricks while experimenting with why it doesn't work and flashing different kernels, I had to do that whole process so many times I can go from softbrick back to where I'm at now in about 20 minutes.

So I flashed that one via Odin, followed the guide to root and everything step by step, and now that I'm back on stock kernel and want to install CWM Recovery, I downloaded Rom Manager and hit install recovery and it says everything worked but if I boot into recovery it's just the android stock recovery.
EDIT: Another thing I thought of. Could the fact that at one point I used this method to install CWM recovery on my phone have caused there to be two different recoveries running parallel?
http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-r...on-att-or-verizon-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sch-i545/
UPDATE: Using this method I installed the latest version of CWM Recovery Touch but Rom Manager still thinks the normal version is installed, though now if I hit reboot to recovery from the app it actually takes me to the touch instead of a separate one. Is the app dumb or do I still have an issue? Also I cannot install kernels without tripping the count and having my phone tell me I need to go to a verizon store.

ROM manager may actually be the issue.
And as far as installing kennels I've never had an issue myself. The last link you posted is about flashing the md2 kernel in order to root the phone. Do you mean that?? Or installing say a KToonsez kernel after you're already rooted and have your custom recovery?

As in installing a KT kernel after rooting and having a custom recovery and ROM on my phone. Right now I have three 3/22 nightly cyanogen up and running but as soon as I install kt it trips the Verizon security and on have to flash back to stock kernel to use my phone. Booting into Odin and canceling out to restart does not let me get past the yellow triangle

Unless you remember all the apps you froze, which is unlikely, go into recovery mode and factory reset your device.

Oh. Thank you. I have tried it. But I don't know.. Is it possible that I froze something that is required for the recovery?

If you can get into recovery then no, are the any custom Roms for your device? I suggest you try flashing one. They normally have all the bloatware removed already. Either that or flash your stock ROM again using Odin. Which device do you have?

It's an LG L7 p705 sir. It's rooted but I haven't flashed any custom roms yet.
I really think I froze something that has to do with the recovery. I can't access it.

If you prefer stock ROM then use Odin to flash a stock ROM on your device. I don't see any other way out of this

Can you acces Emergency Mode my friend. Pull out battery. Insert it back then Hold Volume up + Volume down + power button tell me if you see a yellow screen.
I doubt you can use Odin as you say you have an lg device. Many lg devices have fastboot access via bootloader if yours is on then you should be fine. I doubt you froze anything that would keep you from booting to the recovery as you can't freeze your kernel so keep trying to get there. But a factory reset will doubtfully help as you probably removed some system apps that don't return when doing a factory reset, but still worth a try
If you can get into recovery and a factory reset doesn't help then wipe all and then flash a custom ROM.
If this won't work than hope you have fastboot access and or another method such as nvflash or whatever

Ok. Thank you so much for your replies I really appreciate it. I guess that recovery is my only hope.. I'll try to get to it. I was nervous that I think I froze something that have to do with the recovery. I'll try to be more careful now, I'll just post if it's working fine now.
