I am hoping to get a discussion about the xperia x10 for users in the U.S. I am using wolf's TW 007.1 with custom kernal on baseband 52. I am wondering what others are using in the U.S.? Which rom, baseband is working well for you?
I use WB's CM6 rom too, but I use baseband 54, which in my opinion is the best for X10a in USA. I tried using the new AT&T baseband 2.1.65 on WB's and had text message problems, and 2.1.65 limited data to 3G on AT&T 2.1 update.
I'm using .52 with the custom kernel on WB's TW007. No issues thus far for me. I've also tried it on .54 and can't see any discernible difference.

I've tried both as well and I feel the same....it's just good to know I'm not missing out on anything. Thanks.
I'm using BB 67 and it works great.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but basebands deal with a radio signal, which is why some are better for certain regions. I started with wb's rom with 55 and then 54, both gave me good reception and there would be a lot of switching between 3g and H. Since I've moved to baseband 52 I still get good reception but only the H, which I'm not complaining about at all, I'm just trying to understand why. Thanks.
I'm running stock 2.1 generic with BB 54, rooted and junk removed. Everything works fine. The reason I do not use any custom ROMS is because there is always something that is not working properly or only partially working.

The only issue I have with WB's rom is that there is no zoom or led for the camera but that is almost a non-issue for me.
67 worked great for me, signal and battery wise. running 54 right now on ew's rom
So, Batman, you're not the only one encountering this! I thought it was just me. Primary problem for me is flaky WiFi, but the last ROM I tried had an issue with texting, although it may have been because I was using AT&T BB of 65 instead of SE's BB of 54. I've pretty much given up on custom ROMs until GB comes in August and we'll see how that goes (running stock 2.1 rooted and de-branded with BB 54).

Yep. It has been common knowledge on here for a while that custom ROMS are always missing something. So you would have to pick which ROM has what features missing that you can live without before installing it.

I guess I just like to mess around with my phone. Also most developers tell you what is missing for each rom so it is pretty easy to pick and choose.
I am using the same (CM 6.1.3 with Wolf's TW 7.1 with custom kernel and .52BB) and have not seen any problems with wifi or data connection or voice calls. No issues with camera but some time video recording lags (though its manageable)...

I flashed to:
2.2.1 T959UVKB1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Darky's V. 9.3 XWJS5 Extreme _Edition
using a Samsung T959 Vibrant Model Phone
Everything is running well, Awesome ROM, the only two issues I'm having is there seems to be no WIFI calling and I cant receive any text now!
I searched the threads for info on this and this was all I found was A response from a thread responder:quote "Sweet honey is the smoothest out of Bionix and Darkys. At least in my opinion only item not working on it is WIFI calling" unquote
Also need an answer or suggestion on the texting issue as well!
The reason I need the WIFI calling so bad is I live so far out in the country, That I cant get a strong enough signal from T-Mobile's nearest tower to receive or call out, and when I was running the stock Froyo 2.2.1 I was able to call using the WIFI calling with my Broadband connection at my house! And I need the texting for business correspondence as well!
If there anyway to correct this and still use Darkys ROM? And IF NOT! Then what other similar ROMS to Darky's have the WIFI calling, and with no text issues!
Dont want to go back to stock If its avoidable, otherwise if there are no ROMS or fix's then I obviously have no other choice but to go back to Stock Flavor again! Which would be very sad and disappointing!
It is my understanding that none of the 2.2.1 roms are capable of running WIFI calling as of yet. There are a lot of 2.2 roms out by EDT and TW that you can run WIFI calling on. I'm currently on Trigger 2.7.2 and used the bloater app to install WIFI calling and it works like a champ. I was also having some issues with texting as well on one or two of the 2.2.1 roms as well, but not all and couldn't track down the problem. Hope this helps!
So with the Trigger 2.7.2 are you up and running with the text and good telephony using a WIFI AP ??? With 0 defects???
And How is the GPS aquisition capabilities with trigger and what modem does it use?? I Need good GPS routing when I travel for work, just as important as the other agenda's!
If this ROM can provide all Ive asked, then it seems a winner to me, I havent seen any pic's of it though and was wondering if it looks good, also how is the speed with the kernnel it runs on??
I know alot of questions, but still trying to find the right flavor I can stay satisfied with, and stop tweaking for awhile! LOL!!
Anyways thank you for your time and effort. Appreciate YA!

Yep, the WIFI app from the bloater app works great, no problems with calls or texts. GPS also works great, outside get a lock usually 9/11 birds and with using the navigation app, or maps its usually spot on. GPS on the vibrant is never perfect. Trigger is KB1 base with KB1 voodoo kernel and KB1 modem. After flashing Overstock, using quadrant, which isn't an accurate benchmark but can be used for comparisons, it scored mid 1700 to low 1800. Stock kernel scored mid 1400 to low 1500. Keep in mind, all hardware is different and you may not get the same results, and whenever flashing anything, be sure you know how to odin back to stock and read the OP fully! Good luck and hopefully this helps you out!
Cheers!
Also, I do flash the s.gps fix that is posted in the development section.

Hello.
I am really hoping someone can clear up for me what the different basebands mean to the OS/apps running on my X10. From what little I know they are regional but I don't understand the benefits/hazards of changing them.
I live in Ontario, Canada and my phone was an X10a. I've since flashed different ROM's and am currently running 2.2.1, X10i with 2.0.46 bb.
I understand that the BB version can affect certain ROM's getting stuck in reboots, and even possibly some communication issues, but can they affect things like the camera's performance? general performance of the phone? text messaging?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding the baseband is kind of like a communication interface between the android os and the hardware. so if you have a rom thats made for a different baseband than you're running will cause errors.
the BB is the radio of your phone
if you didn't have a radio you wouldn't have wifi or a network signal
I'm currently using BB 52 which alot of the devs use
try a couple and see how your battery and other things respond
make sure the bb is compatible with the rom or patch the rom
Hi I am having the same type of issues. I have an X10a and I have tried a couple of different Roms with different basebands. It still comes up with the no signal and shows my phone as an X10i. Wondering if these Roms work well with X10a I did an upgrade a while back to rom 2.1 it shows by baseband of 49. but nothing seems to jive with it. Anyone have success on ATT US with X10a?
It does not matter if your phone says X10a or X10i. The different basebands shouldnt make any difference for most people the only difference is what ROMs work with it. I am in US on AT&T using .58 BB, Wolfs ROM and my phone says X10i. I have had no problems or noticed any differences using any of the basebands for the past 5 months.
If you get no service after flashing a ROM see if the app dev tools is there and open it then go bad behavior>crash system server, then let your phone reboot and you should have service. If that doesnt make a difference make sure your APN settings are set up.

So I updated to the latest OTA and noticed my 3g speed is less than half of what it was before and its been like that for a couple weeks now. I know its not a network issue because I activated the incredible just to see what the speed was on it and its at 1.2 Mbps like always. Anybody else seen the issue? Is there a way to keep the official froyo but downgrade to an older radio and see if that solves the problem?
are you on a custom kernel now vs before?
reason I ask is the rwin... most of the custom kernels have the rwin changed from samsung defaults (which is really low) to a number that all other android devices have...

I've been on a custom kernel pretty much ever since I've had the phone. What is rwin, in dumbed down terms? Maybe I'll go back to the stock kernel and see what happens. Another question or two, isn't the kernel in the boot? Why doesn't cwm backup the boot on the fascinate? It does on the incredible which makes it alot easier to go back to the stock kernel or a known working kernel if I flash a kernel my phone doesn't like.

This probably wont help you but I have my fascinate on alltel and im experiencing the same problems . Only thing that will fix it is my changing my prl through qpst and flashing a new modem . But then it will go back to half speed after a hour or two.im going to go all the way back to stock and see what happens

I tried five different kernels including the stock one with no difference so I'm gonna say it isn't a kernel issue. I think I'm gonna go back to 2.1 and see what happens.
Went all the way back to 2.1 and still the same thing. Updated to 2.1.1 with ea28 radio like I had before all this started and still the same. Maybe it is a network issue but it's funny how the incredible was getting the usual 3g speeds.
Ive rooted and have been running custom roms. I guess this question is aimed towards our american friends. Is the update worth it? Or are the custom roms available better and the emergance of cm7?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Roms are better than the 2.3.4 update from Motorola. The best ROM is cm7. But the best everything working ROM in my opinion is Alien ROM which includes webtop and HDMI.
Sent from my Atrix XDA Premium App
We may really tell only when the update is out. I once read that Motorola is delaying Gingerbread for Europe because many modifications are needed. It seems that Atrix and Atrix 4G do really have differences.
I needed to install many tweaks for making Alien #4 perform well on my European, retail Atrix (1bar bug for 3G, A-GPS, a custom kernel, ..).
Moreover, radios out there are not suited for "Euro - retail" Atrix (not 4G) running custom Gingerbread ROMs. I found that the best radios for Italy (I suppose for Europe, too) are still N_01.95.00R (the one that comes with retail Atrix, designed for Froyo) and N_01.100.00R (Orange FR radio). The first performs better in terms of battery life, the second has great connectivity. Substitute N_01.95.00R with the radio that came with your Atrix, in case.
I tried N_01.100.00R but decided to switch back to N_01.95.00R. Currently I am using Cyanogenmod because it is the ROM less built around a specific carrier. I'm quite happy with that.
Probably, the best combination will be to use the radios that Motorola will release for European customers when GB is out here plus Cyanogenmod.
Hope that this helps clarifying.
Thanks. I have seen issues with the custom roms. Mainly lacking in signal when i know i usually have a full signal. How would you flash a radio on atrix...via sbf or is there flashable roms?

you can do it both ways, they exist in SBF form and .zip
there is also a one bar fix that you may want to try, search for it in the dev section
Just a thought: I ended up rooting and installing CM7 within a couple of weeks of buying my Atrix. If you're not bothered about fingerprint scanner and webtop then I think it is a lot better than stock Froyo in terms of performance.
Of course, now Gingerbread is looking like it will be on European phones officially "soon" but think about it: when you've just installed gingerbread with that motoblur overlay, CM9 based on ICS will probably be making its way to devices and aren't you going to be real jealous?!
Come on, you'll probably end up with Cyanogenmod at some point so why not take the plunge now? I honestly believe if you follow the instructions and get everything installed correctly, you won't be disappointed... just happy in the knowledge you'll always be on the path to the next upgrade!

As already posted both possibilities exist. I see from your avatar that you are a Linux user like me. Then beware that, if you will use sbf_flash for flashing sbf, never flash a radio that comes as a CWM file. sbf_flash will never overwrite it then and you will need to use Windows and RSD-Lite.
See more on a previous question posted by me. It started as a question on how to revert back to Froyo after Gingerbread update, but a very helpful user also told me about flashing radios, creating sbf radios/roms and about the sbf_flash bug
I can give or take cm7 yeah its awesome. But still too buggy. And unfortunately i hate the look of stock android. My signal is half what it should be.
So i have restored the original stock rom via cwm. Never realised how good the battery was. Heavy usage involving sat nav. Loads of wifi including facebook, market, xda and a few phone calls. 15 hours off charge and still 70%!!
Im waiting for the ota. Then maybe things may run smoother in regards radios and so on with other roms.

I too am waiting on the official Gingerbread update for my UK Orange Atrix and fingers crossed, should be coming within the next week or two (Mid November has been quoted)
I'm still on Stock 2.2 having only had the Atrix for 1 week but am already feeling the custom Rom pull.
I guess it would be best to play with the official Gingerbread Rom for a week or two (when it comes haha) and if it's lacking then hit the custom's then - that's my plan anyways

I installed it, the sbf for my Atrix was posted three days ago in the Firmwares Superthread. It is amazing.
It comes with N_01.100.00R radio, that perfectly works with this ROM. Great 3G connectivity, great WiFi stability, GPS gets the signal in a bunch of seconds and battery life is great: after 07hrs and 30minutes of light usage (3G on, Gmail + Twitter on and sporadic Internet browsing), the battery level is still between 90% and 80%. Best ROM I've ever used.
so have you installed the OTA gingerbread?
or have you gone custom? i'm still awaiting the official update coming this week???
i've just bought the work and play kit.....so im hoping for 2 things coming this week!!

updating to gingerbread does not make it unrootable it just means you need to use a different method,
you can flash with RSD if you want to try out some other builds though, just do some reading first and figure out how to fix it if you get a soft brick

The Gingerbread OTA will lock the bootloader and probably install the malicious bootloader. We don't have info about the European OTA and the contained bootloader, so we assume that it is the same as the one contained in the USA OTA.
Therefore, I did not wait for the OTA. I indirectly installed the SBF mentioned before (it corresponds to the one I would have gotten with the OTA).
"Indirectly" means that I converted the SBF into moto-fastboot images and the radio into a radio-SBF image.
In this way I have the old, unlocked and not dangerous bootloader plus the new system, webtop and radio. It is safer in this way.

Yes but first unlock the bootloader, then try the UK retail but don't flash the SBF! You should convert it to moto-fastboot images (plus the SBF-radio) and install them. It should work well in France, but try it by yourself

Regarding update to Gingerbread:
Never install the Gingerbread OTA if you want to hack your phone and you don't have experience doing it. The OTA may contain a malicious bootloader that hinders further hacking. Quite sure it contains it. For sure, if you install the GB OTA and flash a Froyo sbf, it will brick the phone. It is still possible to install custom ROMs after the GB OTA, but it is better to manually update your phone instead of doing the OTA.
I am not sure about what happens if you just flash the original Motorola Gingerbread over your official Motorola Froyo. Fur sure it will work but I think that it will install the malicious bootloader
Rooting is always possible, it will never brick your device. Since you're a beginner, give a read to the beginners guide. It also contains rooting/unlocking instructions

Hi everyone I have been using a handful of different roms and I can't find a single one that has GPS working.
Am I doing something wrong?
I tried AOKP glitched milestone 6 w/devil and GPS does not work, tried THS build 15, and a couple JB roms.
I must be doing something wrong here since I cant get GPS working perfectly on any of them.
Sometimes it will kick in after ive been driving for like 10 minutes and then go away when I really need it. WTF is going on here?
I'll go back to GB if I have to. Anyone have any tips or advice on what I can do to get some solid GPS performance here?
Thank you so much!
Lastly, I've been trying to find a mirror for AOKP Milestone 6 Standard (without devil) but the links on the AOKP site are all dead. Anyone? ty!

When I was having GPS issues (on 2.2 stock) this helped me to get a lock. However, I will say since I went to 2.3 and then AOKP M6 I've had no trouble with GPS, so your mileage may vary. Have you always had problems with GPS, or only since you've been trying custom roms?
