[Q] No Reception for LG Optimus V (Virgin Mobile) - Optimus One, P500, V General

I have searched, and could not find a thread regarding this issue. I just bought a Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V, had it activated, and I have almost NO signal.. One bar, at most. This is in an area that has 3G/Good Voice coverage. I activated the device yesterday evening. Has anyone else had any problems with this? Does it need a few days to "settle in"? Like I said, it should have FULL coverage. In town. I have none.
Help me out here, guys (and girls). Thank You!

Not really, needs to work out of the box. If other phones work with the same operator in the same location, RMA it.

As in return it to Virgin Mobile?

[Q] Data config for HTC Evo on Telus Canada

Hi guys,
I am seeking help to configure data connectivity on my HTC Evo running on Telus Canada. Voice and SMS work flawlessly but data is no go.
The one key thing that I've noticed is that the HTC Evo doesn't seem to have an APN config option. I have tried to re-adapt different configuration but I've had no luck so far.
If anyone is using HTC Evo on Telus in Canada, your knowledge and experience will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hey how are you?
I have been looking around to see if anyone successfully is using the HTC Evo under Bell or Telus for a while now!!! I really wanna buy this phone from the states and use it in TO.
Was it hard to get it working under telus? Have you resolved the issues with the data yet?
I d really appreciate the help, thank you!
Me Too I want to buy the HTC EVO and I want to ask if it was easy to activate it under Telus
Hey guys,
Sorry I hadn't updated this thread. I now have HTC Evo working on Telus. Voice, SMS and Data. I initially had problems with slow data but with slight tweaking, I now have up 1700kbps download and 800kps upload speed. I feel so alive with this phone right now. Only glitch that I need to find a way around is not being able to use data while taking a call. Kinda dumb limitation but it doesn't bother me. I rarely use my phone for calls.
So yeah, get to work guys! The dream is indeed possible.
Trax
---------
PS: First do your research on how to get Voice and SMS working or PM me if you need guidance, then we can start talking about Data in this thread. Godspeed!
I know this is an older thread (September) but I just wanted to re-check because no other forums posts anywhere ain Canada have anyone using an EVO on Telus. From what I ujnderstood, the CDMA format wasn't really unlockable and interchangable, so the DREAM PHONE EVO was out of our reach. Your news is exciting, but hard to believe. Can you offer any more details at all? Does Telus support foreign unlocked phones? WOW. if so.
Sorry to revive an old thread but I have the same problem as the first post on my EVO. Talk and SMS works great but I have no data at all... No 1x, no EvDO. What do I need to do to get it work? It's a great phone but I need my data connection.
I am fairly at ease with tools like QPST and QXDM so don't waste your time overexplaining things!
From what I understand, typically I am supposed to have at least 1x data without any username/password, just get authenticated by the network. Howerver it is not the case. No connection.
Please help me.
Any one have any thoughts?? Im having the same no data problem on bel i got it to the point once where it authenticated and then said protocoll errors. have not been able to get it to that point. and im ready to almost give up ;(

thanks man! appreciate it.. i know that the atrix have quadband for gsm which supports 900/1800 here in the phils and for the 3G, the band here is 2100, why it wont work? ... and other than updating manually, can i update it via wi-fi?
The 2100 band is the problem. AT&T Atrix doesn't support that band.
I don't think the OTA works using wifi but you can download the stock update using wifi and apply it.
CORRECTION: it does support the 2100 3G frequency. I didn't understand the whole WCDMA vs GSM thing correctly
i have read some old reviews when it is still in Froyo and there are a lot of complaints about the laggy pinch to zoom of Atrix.. how is the pinch to zoom of pictures in Atrix GB?
I have not experienced any problems. The zoom is very responsive
well i just hope someone who bought an unlocked at&t Atrix from the US and used it here in the Philippines would post their experience about the phone. i have read from different sites and forums that they have complaints about Atrix connectivity like wi-fi and bluetooth in different countries.
it's just too bad only few people here in the Philippines use Atrix.
I used my phone in the philippines. I was able to get internet on it. Not sure it was 3g but it was the h+ symbol on both smart and globe. I went to their offices to help set it up. Just remember, most places won't have 3g yet especially those place that don't support smartbro or globe broadband which uses the 3g signal I believe. Just ask for help there.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same standards around the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those complaints.
The issue with GSM coverage is that the phone must support the frequency bands for the local carrier's equipment, and the carrier must support the specific GSM standards (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSUPA, LTE, etc.) that the phone is capable of. The Atrix 4G does indeed support 2100 MHz but as other folks have noted in this thread, the main carriers in the Phils (Smart and Globe) don't support HSPA+.

im quite confused about that 3G thing.. your post was right.. Philippines do not belong to the list of HSUPA networks.. but when I viewed the list of HSDPA networks, Philippines was there.. (i could not share the link for the meantime, 3 more posts needed).. this got me really confused.. im afraid i cannot use internet services by ISP.. maybe wi-fi only..
thank you guys for helping.. i really appreciate it.

I'd be interested to see your link, but if it came from the same site as the one where folks think that wi-fi and BT won't work in the Phils. then again, I wouldn't put much stock in that claim. HSPA upgrades aren't cheap and with 1 Peso per minute calling plans I don't think the carriers there have much of an upgrade budget. (My wife is a Filipina and has had GSM phones here in the states ever since AT&T has been selling them.)

No problem with the questions.
I don't recall if my Atrix had an option for SMS delivery reports prior to me applying the OTA update to GB. I don't see that option now, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. In any event that sounds like a feature of the Android OS (if it actually exists). So if it's lacking (or present ) on other Android phones then I would expect the same for the Atrix.
thanks andy for the informative replies. Im quite relieved now after i have read the previous post by mamoranto.
because i have have had 5 GSM phones from the states which came from different carriers and i have no idea on their specific details (because mostly are gifts), out of the 5 phones only 2 phones are used for "all around, daily purposes" because here in the philippines, texting is the number purpose of a phone. does the Atrix have sent items/messages stored after you send an sms?
sorry for my noobish questions.

Well I stand corrected.
The "Globe Telecom" page on Wikipedia claims both 3G and HSDPA support on their networks. Apparently they've just begun rolling out WiMAX in Metro Manila and points south as well. This page reads like marketing copy, so I assume this info comes straight from Globe.
Dang...wish I was in the Philippines again!
oooppss sorry for the previous post... it was answered.

I think *every* phone in the Phils originally came from the states, LOL. Or at least that's the way with my wife's family. My sis-in-law just got my daughter's barely-used iPhone 3Gs, and my niece there just got my wife's BlackBerry Curve (wife and daughter had to get new iPhone 4).
Are you gonna buy this Atrix new there? You must be rich...
P.S. The Atrix does keep copies of sent and received SMS messages. It shows them in threads/conversations like iPhone, or Chikka.
It uses the Text Messaging app which I think is part of the Android OS. Motorola also throws in their own messaging widget if you want you want to use that.
My dinner break is over and I need to quit this thread for now...
Mabuhay!

Galaxy S2 and Virgin UK

Hi everyone
I'm new here and I have Galaxy S2 on Virgin UK network. I would like to ask S2 owners or anyone who can help me about advice. I spent hours in many forums and I still can't truly get what is wrong with my phone.
The problem occurs when my phone is working in automode (gsm/wcdma). When I get to place without proper 3G network coverage my galaxy s2 goes in to 2G and never comes back from it to 3G (in automode). When I want to come back to 3G I have to reboot my phone or toggle it manually to WCDMA only for a second and switch it back to automode. Whenever I do it I'll have 3G (or H) to the next time when I'll go to the place without 3G coverage.
Is there anyone who owning galaxy s2 on Virgin UK with working 2G - 3G switching in automode (gsm/wcdma). Anyone even in other UK networks or it's just normal behavior for galaxy s2? I know at least 2 people who have the same problem with S2 and Virgin.
I've tried many different roms and a lot of modems too (even orange UK, 3UK, T-mobile UK stock modems), Juice Defender beta, other software switchers and wigets.
Help, please
Not on virgin, but a UK user on 02. Never experienced the issues you are describing, so it seems network specific.
Thanks mate. I need all your opinions before I'll complain to the Virgin.
Possible its the masts you are picking up from .
SGS2 and 1 bothy worked fine on Virgin for me >> have you entered the correct settings from the web site .
CSC for Virgin i always used the CPW carphone warehouse one as some UK csc do not have Virgin settings .Virgin of course runs on the TMobile network .

That will of course have invalidated your warranty from Virgin .You need to restore if sending the phone back .

Of course. I came back to stock firmware 2.3.4 last night anyway.
Thanks I'm going to check CPW carphone warehouse. Settings are from Virgin website and I'm picking up signal in BT4 1QF area now.
EDIT:
Well
I flashed GT-I9100_CPW_I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100CPWKD1 - CPW carphone warehouse with factory restet before of course.
Phone started in 3G obediently. I switched from automode to gsm (what occurs when I'm in place without 3G) and I switch it back to automode again to check whether in goes in automode from 2G to 3G or not. It was last time when I saw 3G icon on the screen. No luck. Still doesn't work. Absolutly the same.
I've heard similar stories on other threads, It may be coincidence, but Virgin runs on the T-Mobile network, and they have just recently started sharing their 3G network with Orange.
There may be some hiccups in the switch over, that's affecting Virgin.
I could be totally wrong, but the dates coincide with the similar Data issues that I have seen discusssed on other threads.
I would call Customer service personally.
Regards and good luck.
I just finished my conversation with customer service. They said that It can happen in places where 3G signal is weak and 2G strong. If there is strong 3G signal switching should work. It should but it doesn't. Thats what I known now. But I'm afraid I knew it before already . They said I can try to replace sim card or mobile.

I've noticed this a bit with my galaxy S2 and its quite annoying, i used to get the T-Mobile network all the time which provided me with 3G quite often but for some reason the switch has left my phone connected to the orange mast with no 3G. I might ring up as well.

I upgraded another device with Orange last week, and they provided a new SIM card. I'm wondering if that's due to the switch.
Good luck.

I'll try to replace sim next week
Not seen this problem (for me) on my SGS2
SGS2-XXKL1-Hyperoid 5.2.21/Siyah-2.6.7 - Virgin UK.
Although my Virgin Blackberry has the very same problem? time for a customer service call...
Well I sorted out my problem pernamently and I now what is going on. This is network problem. Go to your network settings and change your network from Virgin to virgin I spent 1,5 hour speaking to Virgin support and they couldn't help me. The didn't know. They told me that virgin with small v it's orange in fact but we can use this network that's why it is also named virgin.
Regards
Check your connectivity with calls. My wife is with Virgin but can't get signal at work or home. Their signal on data is only the second usage of T-mobile which is not the best.

Looks like this new EE network is now T-Mobile and Orange. What are Virgin using to do their data?

[Q] IMEI

Hey everyone,
I do not roam in this forum, ever. As you might see I don't have an EVO LTE, as much as I would want to.
Here's the thing. I want to see if I can get a good condition EVO LTE to hold me off for 6 months to a year so I can use my Desire for testing ROMs only. It would have been easy except for 2 things: a) I am in Canada so I have to ask TELUS whether it will work on their network; b) it's a CDMA phone. TELUS has CDMA network, which may help.
So I got an email back from TELUS support pointing me to this page http://mobility.telus.com/en/BC/phones-and-devices/devicecompatibility.shtml?eVar6=link. He asked me to input an IMEI and that would see whether it is compatible with the TELUS network.
So I'm trying to find an EVO LTE IMEI, but... I'm almost afraid to ask, but can someone point me in the direction of one? Is the IMEI an extremely, extremely private thing? The kind of thing that if it falls into the wrong hands, it can wreck your phone? Because this would help me greatly, but if it's supposed to be private and secure like that, then I'm fine without.
Sorry if I sound like a noob, I've just never had to deal with the serials and IMEIs except in S-OFFing my Desire, during which you have to provide a serial number (I practically have it memorized by now).
Thanks guys.

Your IMEI is extremely sensitive information. someone who gets it can mark it lost or stolen and literally make your phone a brick. on top of that they could switch it to their account ( fake person ) and make an claim for it being lost. i sell cellphones for a living and many people try that. do not give it out unless your on the phone with legit customer service.
Plus that link has no https:// secure on it. i wouldnt trust it.
IMEI is private and you shouldnt have one less you own the device...

[Q] Late bloomer--can't understand lack of 3G

I recently bought an unlocked SGS3 GT-I9300 in amber brown. This is my first smartphone and I'm just learning there are many variants of each model. I bought a Net10 sim card labeled to include 3G & 4GLTE but now I understand my phone isn't 4G capable. That doesn't bother me but what does is as I'm commuting daily through a fully-saturated 3G area I never see 3G on my phone. If I watch it closely as I drive (not a good idea...) I have seen it flicker for a split second a few times. I've called Net10 customer "service" and was guided through the entire configuration a 2nd time but it's still the same. They had no further suggestions.
I like everything about the phone and can't complain about the performance. I get 3-5Mbps download speeds on H+ (whatever that is) and web pages load fast. One of my main desires is to stream internet radio through the phone to my car radio and I'm concerned the limited speed might give me trouble with keeping connected to a station.
How do I find the cause of the limited speeds? At this point I don't know if the issue is with the phone, the sim or Net10. I'm open to switching carriers as long as I stay on GSM. I have a cottage in northern MI where GSM is strong but CDMA is almost non-existent. I stopped at an AT&T store yesterday hoping they might be some help since it's their network Net10 buys time on--but the 2 kids there were clueless.
Keep any suggestions simple, I'm a noob and old--a bad combo
I'd suggest you try Wikipedia for an explanation of mobile data, H+ is 3G and the best you are going to get without a 4G capable phone.
Also, the i9300 isn't sold in the USA so you probably have a variant which has a specific forum here on xda -as our files will brick your phone. Check under the battery for your actual model number.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my noob questions. I have been searching the net for info. The wiki S3 page was helpful, but I didn't find a mobile data page. Does the US version have the H and H+ status indicators? If not then I can understand why I never found an explanation and why the folks at the AT&T store didn't know either. That really doesn't excuse Net10 CSRs not knowing--especially since they are all "international".
Regarding the I9300 thing--do you mean there is a sub-forum for international I9300 phones? I thought I had found the right spot...?
My phone came from a guy in Alaska and it still has their (GCI) oem software on it. Does that mean it's already been reloaded with local OS? My Device Status is "Modified" but I have no idea to what extent.
Also--if "H" = HSDPA and "H+" = HSPA+ is my phone fully compatible with US 3G and what kind of real-world speeds should I be seeing?
I'm heading up to my cottage after work today and will be testing the phone there. If I can't get data there I will be discarding Net10, and possibly this phone. On Verizon I could not talk and texts took a long time to get through. I bought a cheap flip phone on Tracfone for use there & it gets pretty good signal.
The i9300 isn't sold in the USA for good reason, as it won't get the best out of the networks. It will work, as you've found, but how well I have no idea.
I'd suggest, again, that you check the actual model number printed under the battery.

This is the I9300 page .
But as said really we are clueless about use of the international model used your country .
Basics are any firmware and a modem to suit your local network .
As said you are on 3G already .
H+ is actually 3.5G, etc, just Google it, all explained somewhere in a wiki for example http://readwrite.com/2010/09/16/3g_35g_4g_lte_wimax_beyond_the_marketing_speak#awesm=~opViZD2o1WYsB0

There have been one or two users who use the phone in NA .
Been looking at some "how fast are you" posts here and it looks like I am getting pretty typical speeds.
I guess it's working as it should.
