How much RAM is free on your SII when idle? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just out of interested. I have like 545MB free with hardly anything open, is that okay?

564mb free when idle most of the time which is more than enough.

i got about 560MB free. i think its OK..
you can try removing services that are not being used or needed.

837mb (LightningROM 1.5)

not possible thats the amount of RAM available after the Android System usage. Everyone has that. Using a system tool such as Android assistant to find the actual free RAM after all the background services , etc
unless i am wrong and lightening ROM is a miracle

610-615MB free, could get more but there is some programs that is running when in idle, VillainROM 1.4 "LITE"

347 MB free on stock KE5

About 540 RAM available. Got a problem with my browser though, it isn't RAM-related though. Something wrong with the browser in VillainROM 1.4

RAM running low?

One big resource hog is the facebook app. The 1.7.2 version runs persistently and eats as much as 40mb of ram in the background.
Complete bull****.
So if you have that version of facebook, uninstall and use the 1.6.4 version instead. Push notifications still works yet it is not a resource hungry *****.
Just to share.

Couldn't agree more. Even with compcache RAM @ 18% it still uses a huge chunk of memory.

Another point to share.
Google Maps' Networklocation service. Don't get deceived by its apparently small amount of ram usage. Apparently, this bugger makes performance of phone very different when its active and when its on.
If you have been annoyed by it before, you will know that it is immortal. You can't kill in task manager. However force stopping Google Maps in Applications works. A more useful way is to install autostarts and prevent it from being triggered to start by specific events. Manually, force stopping works just as fine.

Thanks a lot! I was using version 1.5.x because of the same thing. But for some reason it wouldn't let me log on anymore and I was curious as to what version still works perfectly besides that one.
By the way, is there a way to get back the whole "Via Android" thing to appear every time you post something from your device? Or is that a facebook thing?

[Q] Memory Usage(RAM)

I just curious about ram usage on my x10 using feralabs rom for locked bootloader.
If I go to settings---applications---running services it says 168 used and around 20-25 free MB but as far as I know user available ram is 287 MB.
Also, go launcher ex shows around 240/287 MB used ram.
what else is using my ram? and why difference in settings and go launcher ram info?
Its normal mate... When I owned a xperia x10... Faced the same issue... But later came to know it was OK!

Install an app ZDbox, it has great widget called task killer. When you tap it, it will show running apps.
Or if you want extra and complete control even with system running apps, the install OSmonitor, it will show completely all of apps.

[Q] Why Does MIUI 3.1.25 Use So much RAM

The HTC AMAZE is only keeping about a 1/4 of the 1gb free in the latest rom for MIUI. I wanted to know how much others were getting. I have about 288 MB free. How Much are you guys getting?
im getting 475mb no problem,
try cleaning up - take off some unnecessary start-up items
it all depends what apps are running and how often the phone clears memory.
it would also help if he zipaligned the rom. (makes it more ram efficient)
Thanks guys! Ill see what I can do!

Theres an app that was included with the rom called something like "auto start app manager", open it and uncheck all the programs you dont need at startup. also with this rom if you hold down the home button on the phone it shows you currently running apps with a button to kill all, thus freeing up more memory.
also look into zipaligning like ziggy said, i believe the "Pimp my Rom" app on the play store has an option for it.

[Q] RAM Problem

My phone became laggy, so i went and checked out the RAM. The only app i opened was messenger, but my RAM had 48mb free. When i first used the CM11 rom, the RAM was high, but after a week it became like this for no reason. I checked all the open apps, counted the memory but i had only used about 100MB. Why is this happening and any suggestions? Thanks

what did you use to check ram use with?
If you look at "settings:apps:running" it only shows partial of RAM used.
i know it doesn't show cached RAM and something else...
have you tried to reboot into recovery and clear cache?
have you tried the build.prop setting and minfree settings like I mentioned in this post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54266971&postcount=145
that should help alot
This is the 'performance control' app that I like to use

Yea i looked at the RAM using "settings:apps:running"
Ill try clearing cache and i got the "performance control" app. I used the settings that you suggested in your screenshot with the performance control app. There's just one thing i don't know how to do and its adjusting the build.prop settings. How do i do that?

All RAM cleaners are bull****
What's the point in a RAM cleaner, the apps just start up again anyway why do you even need such an app, try using Greenfy which hibernates apps reducing RAM usage and increasing battery life aswell
