Anyone else think its going to be almost impossible to get one? Look at the evo... its STILL out of freakin in and out of stock online...
With the earthquake in Japan slowing the manufacturing industry down, I would imagine there will be shortages of a lot of products, beyond what there normally would be.
I don't see why japan disaster would slow the chinese sweatshops
yes there well be lots of shortages due to demand for a few months, even now the evo 4g still runs out of stock and the E3D well certainly be more popular
The only reason they keep running low on stock is because they haven't ramped up production. If Sprint wanted to, they could flood the market with EVO 4Gs.
I'm going to bust my ass to get on the list.

I doubt it. Most who got an EVO now wont be able to upgrade and that means less purchases.

Perfect reason to preorder one! I know I will.

KIRF to the rescue?
NEW FLASH!!!
There are to few Premier members that will qualify for the upgrade now that it won't make any difference.....
Ok, maybe it's not a news flash, but my gut is telling me demand for the EVO 3D won't be as high as it was for the EVO. There's just to many choices now on other carriers and like I said, Sprint's annual upgrade basically doesn't exist for more now...
BTW, I have a feeling that the Japan issue is really a non issue; mostly because the phone won't be released till the summer. Also, Toyota and other car manufactures have already gotten their plants running, so there has to also be a way to ship them out. If you get a auto factory running and can ship a ship full of cars out, I think they should be able build phone parts and ship a billion phone parts out...
I went to verizon the other day with a friend of mine and he was checking out the Thunderbolt. He àsked how their stock has been and they guy said they have sold a ton of them but HTC has been shipping them as soon as they run out. so they haven't had any problem keeping them in stock. Im not sure but im thinking that could be a sign for us that they will keep a decent stock this time and not miss out on sales like with the Evo.

Due to the recent change in the gold/silver Premier levels?
If that's the case, because I'm still gold, I'll be ahead of almost everyone. Sweet! I'm so tired of my HTC Hero already, been holding out all this time for a dual-core.

There are still going to be a lot of people using full upgrades/other lines on family plans as well as new customers. Not to mention the people who are still eligible for premier upgrades, and, of course, those who will buy the 3D outright. I fully expect demand to be as high or higher than the OG Evo.
My store is still selling out of stock on the 4G whenever we get them, so the demand is there. You also have to factor in a year of people talking about the EVO which spreads it appeal to the more average customers, as opposed to the 4G launch which was driven by tech-types who knew it was coming.

You don't see why plant closures in Japan from some large semiconductor manufacturers would slow them down? Not to say it's going to grind to a halt, but it will have an effect, even if only a small one.

apple uses lg displays, samsungs chip. world can not survive alone anymore. no lg and samsung=no apple.

I'd say the reason you're still selling out of EVO's are because, on Sprint, there's nothing that compares to it in over all features. Sprint is very limited in what top tier phones they carry, and they just don't seem to want to stock them. Believe me, it's not a manufacturing issue. If it were, it'd be almost impossible to get an iPhone.
Here's another possible problem for block buster sales of the EVO 3D. Unlike last year, where Sprint was the only one offering 4G and the was really no comparable phones to the EVO 4G, it's a different story now. Verizon's spring roadmap has been leaked and they are announcing more 4G dual core phones in May.
If people see comparable phones sooner on another carrier and it's available sooner, why wouldn't many people just switch? Especially since LTE is the new buzz word and we've all come to see that LTE coverage is very good (I'm talking about actually having coverage where coverage is supposed to be), with great building penetration? In addition to that, Verizon is saying they'll have 4G (LTE) available in 147 markets by the end of this year, where Sprint/Clearwire looks frozen. Sprint won't even give a hint on what's to be expected by end of year. Because of this, Sprint's price advantage is gone... No one wants to stay on yesterdays network, that's clogged, when you get get new for just a bit more a month.
Sprint reps on different forums and over the phone and in most places have been told from HTC there will be no shortage of EVO 3D's.
Many people are acting like after 1 day you will not find one and that just will not be so.
#1 many people who got the evo are not changing.Yes we have most of us on here but the normal world person is not going to change just yet.
#2 The EVO was a all new thing. That phone was A FIRST.It was hyped like no other and there had not been many new phones before it so many people used there upgrades.
#3 People who got the EVO of them more then 50% do not have a upgrade to use.
you read on here about all the people getting extended but again in the real world not many people understand it can be done.
Lastly the phone has not had much fanfare. We on here and other sprint forums look at it totally different then the real world sprint people.
i called up my Best buy and my local RS and local Sprint store and between all 3 there was 10 pre orders total! and 2 of them were mine at Best buy.So besides me there was 8 others.
People going around saying they will only get as many as were pre ordered and a few extra is just not the case.
Sprint is doing these upgrades to get people to reup for 2 years and help sales of these new phones.
The EVO was a totally different ballgame then what the evo 3d will be.Will i get 1 day 1? Yes will there be a shortage? NO.
If you want to debate it go ahead but sprint has posted a few times already this will not be the case.
i mostly agree. I doubt there will be a shortage
But I also did preorder and I'll be at the store early on release day mainly because the radio shack I'm going to is super busy on a normal day and I work second shift so I'd like to get it done before i go to work.
Yes i will be also going early but those who can't get to best buy or RS or the sprint store on day 1 are not going to be SOL.
You MUST also understand and i know this to be fact! there are MANY and i say MANY sprint reps who work at sprint on HERE and sprint users who try and hype it for sales.
They have stock plus want more people in there there stores and will hype stuff.Heck on SU alone i know of 15 alone i have talked to on there.
So again if you cant get 1 day 1 i think you will have no problem day 2.
As amazing as this phone is, it won't sell as well as the EvO.
The Best Buy near me (Orange, California no less) only has about 20 preorders for the EvO 3D...a week after it was announced.
I went to preorder the EVO 2 days after it was announced last year, at the same store and there were 100 existing preorders.
Granted, there is more than one Best Buy, but I'm near a "HUB" in this city. People are aware, and don't really care as much.
The word EVO isn't as tantalizing as it once was. Cool phones though.
No shortages this year!
I disagree. The evo is still hard to get sometimes... so i don't see it being any different for the 3d.
Where? tell me where you can't get the evo? heck they lowered the price to 99$ and best buy online and stores have tons.
Sprint.com has not had a shortage in months.
Now if you are a sprint rep and want to hype what is just not there fine but please a shortage of evo's? check ebay if you want to see there is no shortage.Heck people with new evo's in box are under cutting each other on EBAY now cause of lack of new sales.
But please share with me where the shortage is for the current evo?
ahh ok a sprint rep lol.just got a IM saying the above me is a sprint rep no wonder the lie about a evo shortage lol when in fact there is plenty no matter where you look.
SO MR I WORK FOR SPRINT SHOW WHERE THE EVO SHORTAGE IS OR WAS IN THE LAST MONTH ANYWHERE LOL.
They didn't have it in stock online a couple weeks or maybe a little over a month ago.
Why so angry? Not like i am attacking you?
What? an im from who? wtf are you talking about? I don't work for sprint in any way or shape?
I called in a few weeks ago to see if they might offer me some type of deal and the guy on the phone told me they were oos...

Ive been on my account online every week at least 1-2 times per week i check the other phones and the prices.
This is why i can say there was never a shortage in months on sprint.com of the evo.
But the new evo 3D has been said by high up sprint reps no shortage at all is expected and they were assured by HTC there would be no shortage.
In fact the EVO is more popular then the evo 3D as your average joe is not going to take the time to sell his EVO and then pay out for the EVO 3D.
I am just posting because many are trying to put the fear out there will be a shortage so people jump on it when they may want to wait a few days but are scared they will miss out.
Goodluck whichever way you guys go.
companies such as HTC don't make the same mistake twice. There will most likely be a surplus of Evo3d's.
I, for one, am not worried about getting one on launch day. I believe that there will be plenty of them available. I have yet to see a commercial from Sprint like I did for the EVO4G.
Sprint has learned its lesson from last year. They have been mass producing the EVO 3D since early May. There will be plenty to go around. Trust me
I'll know the exact numbers next Wednesday
Well the thing is there are 2 reasons there will be plenty avil.
With the evo shortage they already have told sprint there will be no shortage.
And unless you are on XDA SU or PPC Geeks and such not many outside that even know or care about it.
And those who own a evo again less then 50% have a upgrade avil to jump to it.
Will the phone be a winner? i think so.Will it sell out everywhere like the evo did day 1 and for weeks?
NO
I facking love that people are arguing whether there will a shortage or not.
Listen up, artficial shortages are done all the time so the product get deemed by the media "hot selling". HTC isn't relying on Samsung for their screens like last year however I'm sure stores are going to keep some stock in the back for a few days to "create a shortage". If I'm wrong, dont facking flame, its just a phone
That is why i posted the thread on other sites where more Sprint employees are they try and hype it just like in here. They want to create panic so everyone blows out there upgrade and once you do you have 2 more years unless you use a etf.
The thing is i will like this phone and i will use this phone. But i hate when people start the i am camping out stuff and so on because the fear of OOS hit them.
This will be a good phone but HTC will not let there be a shortage again like with the evo and already has told Sprint this will not happen.

Best advise I can give is to ignore it then, if they aren't hurting you it shouldn't matter. If you pre ordered you will be good, let the idiots camp out if they want... Heck, i'd even drive by and laugh at them. I know i'll be feeling comfy at home the night before and go pick mine up in the morning. Just remember that we will all have our sweet evo 3d's really soon and we can all relax
Of all the arguments to get into this is one of the dumbest imho.
Who cares?!
it doesn't matter in the end one bit. If you really want the phone youll find a way to get it period. If you dont, then you wont.
This is hardly worth drumming up the conversation about. I could care less if sprint employees are hyping it up to sell it and create a panic. Thats their damn job to begin with! And rdcrds argument about getting people to blow their upgrade is a little redic and meaningless. The ppl that want it will get it and the ones that dont, wont. end of story.
Who cares if ppl camp out anyway? let em be a apple like idiot camping out for phones.
I don't care if people camp out that is fine. The thread was not about people camping out.In fact i really only try and reply when someone has a question or says something.
But please do not get into a heated discussion about it.
Just to show you How sprint employees try and hype/make people panic is if you were to start a thread like this on SU.com the employees of Sprint go into the thread and start a flame war because on then the thread gets closed. It has happened many times in the past.
My only purpose of this thread really is to let people know who if they can't get it day 1 they will be avil with no shortage.Htc has told Sprint there will be plenty avil unlike the EVO launch.
Some people do not have the $50 to spare to put a pre order in and have to wait till launch to get it.I just hate sprint employee hypes who go on these forums and try to push a shortage when there just won't be 1.
Again completely pointless. If you want the phone your going to get it some way or another. If you dont then you wont.
pointless thread imho. least deff not worth its own thread. coulda just stated that you herd supply was going to be able to meet demands this time in the other threads. sorry just dont get the point of caring about sprint ppl hyping or trying to cause a panic over a device. who cares,

When I checked online a couple of weeks ago at Sprint, the EVO was out of stock... In fact, just now is the first time I have seen it available on their site in awhile.
The EVO launch was a mess, there was a shortage from the beginning and they are just now catching up. There won't be a shortage of the EVO 3D as both Sprint and HTC will be better prepared for the launch.
A good friend of mine in KC, MO had to wait over 3.5-4 weeks to get an EVO. He was leaving AT&T & the iPhone and was bummed that they were out of stock for so long. I should also mention however that he was waiting for the white EVO.
Figures are not definitive but just a observation. I have a friend who is a district manager for a few Sprint stores in the Tri-State area of PA, DE & NJ where I live. Not corporate stores, but those authorized retail stores. A few of his stores reside in some of the more popular shopping malls in the area. Anyway I was at one of the stores yesterday picking up a new battery for my Epic & I asked how the 3D was selling compared to the Evo 4G & he said they weren't selling anywhere close to how the OG Evo did last year. Not even that many people coming in asking for it. He said a couple of the stores still had original stock from release day, where as last year they couldn't keep them in any of the stores. He also said that he has seen more returns for the phone also. Not for the locked bootloader but other reasons. So that magic number of 10%, that people around here keep tossing around as the percentage of people who actually want a unlocked bootloader may be actually higher when you factor in that the phone isn't selling like Sprint/HTC thought. Like I said in the begining, none of this is definitive, just a observation from a friend who is in the know, at least at the 10 or more stores he oversees.

I dont think the bootloader has much if anything to do with it. The reason is simple really.. when the Evo came out last year it was the first and only of its kind. There werent any other 4G phones out with the massive screen. It took the other carriers a while to catch up but now you have Tmobile with its own Sensation, Verizon with its own Thunderbolt, Charge, Iphone and soon to be Bionic. AT&T with its own Infuse, Inspire, Atrix, Captivate, etc. So the Evo doesnt really have anywhere near as much luster now as it did a year ago. Add to that the fact that a ton of people are still locked into contracts and there's your answer.
I knew they didnt expect sales to be big when they allowed employees to get the phone only 3 days after it released so im really not surprised and I dont think they are either.
If anyone actually thought the 3d would sell better then the og EVO is dilusional.
The 3d wasn't as heavily marketed and hyped like the OG EVO also. And yea the EVO was first of its kind.

I totally agree. Back then the Droid and EVO where really the only ones that stood out...now the rest of the others played catch up, and the field is scattered with selection of phones that are nearly identical to the OG EVO. Now we have a huge selection of them AND we still have the OG EVO. Sales are good..nbut not nearly the amount of the original. Also...how many really have the cash to upgrade. If they do not have full upgrade? I mean...contracts are 2 years and many of them still have another year or so to go. I still have mine left with 14. Months to go. I paid cash for. mine and after I sell my OG EVO still cost me money. But I did not use a upgrade..beings I do not have one. My 2 cents worth
The EVO was under produced. That's why everyone was sold out...
tapa tapa tapa
I hate to finally admit it, but my 2 3D's are going back tonight. I love the phone, We are taking them back simply because the data from Sprint in the Buffalo area is unusable - Web pages take minutes to load, cant stream radio, etc ...
All Sprint can tell me locally is 4G towers should be up by the end of the year - but by that point Ill be locked into a contract and if they fail to upgrade, Ill be stuck.
I hate that the return will reflect on the phone due to a return, but its not the phone in our case.

Don't forget that alot of evo4g users are in a 2yr contract and probably weren't aware of the option to upgrade to the 3d for a limited time. Also the evo4g may be enough phone for a lot of people as well.

Consider also the fact that those who got the 4G are still on the 2 year contract. Those who actually lurk these boards may have taken advantage of the upgrade reset.

I did....many, many times...at corporate stores..private ones and online. Then I figured...it was not worth to lose it. And the upgrade was just as expensive as to purchase one...400 for the evo 3d..subtract 250 for my old evo...150 dollars. I started with sprint nov of last year. 150 was just right to get me in.

Where are you having trouble with the service? I moved from Buffalo not too long ago and I got great service from Sprint there. I used to live just off Hertel near Military and never had any issues. Really the only places that I didn't get good service were east of the zoo, and out past Amherst.
Anyway, on topic... Of course they didn't sell as well, as everyone else has stated, they just aren't as "wow" as they were last year. Many people also just simply don't have the full upgrade yet, and aren't willing to pay the extra money.
Your friend who is in the know? Lol. Does he go around to the stores? Or does he just tell the managers what to do? Try asking someone who spends a lot of time in the stores...
I have to disagree on some of those points. I never said the bootloader had anything to do with it. I said that the supposed number of 10% of people who want a unlocked bootloader is a lot larger when you figure in that the phone hasn't sold a lot of units. I don't think people being locked into contracts had much to do with it. The Hero and Moment were big sellers and a lot of people upgraded from those phones to the Evo which came out barely a year later. (Hero - Oct. '09/Moment - Nov. '09/Evo 4G - June '10) And if you don't think that HTC/Sprint anticipated this being a big seller you are being foolish. What company doesn't bank on following a successful phone with another one? You think Apple goes into production assuming that the next iPhone isn't gonna sell at least the same amount if not more than the previous version? If that was the case why spend the money to develop and put in a new processor, GPU, screen, 3D camera, more RAM....Why even call it the Evo? You include all of those new features and call it the Evo hoping to bank on the name and success of the OG Evo IMO. I mean I'm no business major but that sounds like good business to me.

Actually he does a lot of travelling. I usually call or text him when I have a problem to see which store he is gonna be in and what time. If he is gonna be out of the area he usually lets the tech/sales person at the store nearest to me to expect my visit.
this is true bc i was conversing, friendly btw, with the girl at the sprint store i went to. long story short, i asked about reservation amounts. She said the Evo tore this phone apart in first day sales, not even close. Anyways to add a funny note, she goes okay im going to update your phone with this OTA. Im like no i dont want it thank you. Shes like why are you going to root it? I was like oh man if only my girl was interested in this stuff lol, na jk. But it was pretty cool to meet someone like that.

I need a friend at a Sprint store. Any Sprint employee's in NC want to be my friend
So he doesn't sell... he does a lot of traveling... spends his time in a care or whatever he uses to travel. He looks at reports and goes around to make sure people are in uniform, the stores are clean and addresses any concerns with employees. I'd say less than 10% even know what a bootloader is... you're wrong, he's wrong, stupid thread that has nothing to do with anything. You just think you're right because you think he's "in the know"... Come on now...
There are more returns on the 3D? False.
4G outsold the 3D in mass numbers? True.
So let's say 30 - Evo 4G's were sold in a month and let's estimate that there is a 1 in 9 return rate... do you're at approximately... 3. So around 10%...
Let's say 10 - Evo 3D's sold in a month... and to be honest, I'm making these numbers up. But I can personally say that I've never seen one returned... So that makes it 0%. Maybe 1 might be returned in the next week and a half... but there's nothing proving that there are more returns...
No one in this thread, including myself has provided any sources for numbers. Everyone is pulling numbers out their asses.
Not a single 3D has been returned at the store I work at. That's a actual number. 0.
How many went out, I can't say. But I can say release day stock was sold out and fulfilled by pre-orders within a hour of store opening.
We've been lucky to keep 1-2 in stock.
OK, #1, yes I know the forum rules (Not to bash, keep it clean, no religious stuff............) and I have not in my years here, broke them! BUT, I feel every now and then, I should be entiled to a free one? Today is that day!!
I say f**k Sprint! I was over at SprintFeed.com and Sprint has announced the EOL (End of Life) for Photon next month! I will tell you exactly why this pisses me off!!
#1 (Yea I know #1 is above, im starting over!). I went out and got the damm Evo for $500.00 summer of 2010. Last summer, Sprint blasted the TV with the Evo 3D but only one or 2 commercials for Photon. Photon, IMO, was and is, 100 times better than3D in every way, But Sprint blasted the damm Evo. I dont need a toy, I need a bussiness phone that will assist me in getting the job done. So I pay $638.00, no contract for Photon with 4G August 2, 2011.
#2. I work in IT, I have million $$$ ideas all the time, but it takes me 6 months to a year before anything actually gets done (plan, summary, approval, check, delivery) Therefore, with the November announcement of LTE, they knew damm right well when get got our phones, many of us, me included, did not have 4G and never would have it!! So the sales was entierly a lie!!!! (And to be honest, I cannot recall a TV commercial after August but I still see crap for the toy 3D!)
#3. If end of life is next month, then Q3 ICS is more smoke getting blown up our a**es!!
#4. With this announcement, my $638.00 Photon just became a worthless paperweight! Why? How much are you willing to pay me for my Photon, knowing that if it breaks or f**k's up one week later, your SOL? Seriously? This goes for anything in life! Would you pay top dollar for a I.B.M Thinkpad you know I.B.M no longer supports? NO!!!!
#5. Why is the original Evo still supported, but we did not even get a year? How come everyone got unlocked bootloader and ROM's out the a**? What did we get? Not a damm thing!!! (The development team here worked hard, but Sprint showed no support for them at all!!!)
#6. Also on SprintFeed.com, HTC and Sprint have big announcement April 4th where it is expected they will announce the new EVO for June 10th release date. If the spec's are whats expected, I will jump ship. Whats that gonna cost me?
#7. All so on that website, Wall Street had lowered the boom on Sprint. This means 2 things. They don't have the money they claim they have and could go bankrupt. and what happens to the LTE project and will I ever see 4G?
I just think, IMO, that this is a complete slap in the face to every Photon owner!!!
End of Rant!!

Huh, that's so weird, my Photon is still working great. I hope the devs here at XDA can come up with some kind of mod that blocks the worthless paperweight update.
Its not that serious bro, its just a phone. I love my photon and there's nothing sprint can do to change that.

Dude!!!..... I can't complain abut my Photon, the 4 months or so it has been with me has NEVER let me down one bit, to this day it is the BEST phone I have ever owned, the international capabilities which I was finally able to try on a trip to Mexico last week made me love it even more. I was able to use a Telcel Sim card and used all the features in my phone with no problems no errors no nothing.
(Actually to my surprise Telcel's 3G speeds are awesome compared to Sprint's)
But sadly every phones has an EOL and technology is improving every second..
I don't really see the point of even have a fit about it LOL
Seeing that I no longer work for Sprint I have no issue saying this. Sprint half-assed the handling of the Photon since day one. Considering Sprint's history with Moto Android phones they had no faith in Moto's product and made no real effort to support or push the Photon. This started before the phone was ever released.
Sprint had the update fix for the silent call bug over a month PRIOR to the release of the Photon. Instead of pushing the update on launch day they held off for a month before releasing the fix. So you have a new phone with a major bug that didn't get fixed til after the crucial launch month window had passed. Result, a new phone that doesn't work for enough people to kill sales.
Sprint advertising and sales training was also almost nonexistant. In many cases it was "and Moto makes phones too but who cares" kind of approach. I had setup a live WebTop display running Firefox streaming HULU in the store I worked in. Customers thought it was the Evo 3D and didn't even know the Photon even existed. The first response when told it wasn't the 3D was "Yeh but the 3D can do that too." and very rarely could you convince them otherwise.
In short, Sprint could care less if they ever sell another Moto Android phone and have treated the Photon with that mindset from the start. They can now go back to Moto and say "Look, your crappy phone doesn't sell so no Sprint for you."
Just because it will reach EOL status doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I started with the original Droid on Verizon and EOL was reached a loooong time ago on it and a small update was recently available for it! And there is still development going on for it as well. As long as we have some good devs that still care about it, EOL status is irrelevant.
oh well, fun while it lasted, i upgraded to the photon over my OG evo, loved it since day one, i recently went back to my EVO 3D, so when the ICS update comes out (as promised i hope) i'll update my photon and go back to it, but when it's completely gone, all i'll say is, i have a rare sprint phone (just like my echo) that not a lot of people have, and wait for the newest smartphone to come out
You do realize that all Wimax phones will be going EOL come about Summer when lte launches. And everybody else is right EOL just means they start to pull inventory from the stores no biggie. like the evo shift, epic, nexus, and trender i work at a store and we haven't gotten a shipment for them in 2 weeks and we are out.

Agreed
As I'm sure MOST people who own a MoPho agree, this phone needs much more love from the dev community, I love this phone in it's natural form! I had an OG Evo 4G and modding it was the only thing I could do to keep it up and running. This phone KILLS IT out of the box! The Tegra 2 is incredibly smooth.
I really want ICS for it, but I'll have this MoPho for A LOT longer than my crap EVO.
Signed,
A faithful first time Moto owner

Also, If this phone IS EOL soon, does that mean it WILL get unlocked? Just curious if they didn't care about a phone anymore, they would UNLOCK the bootloader for us.

Nope. It means no updates, support or unlock from official channels. Sprint will still repair/replace it but short of PRL and critical security updates, the phone doesn't exist to Sprint after the EOL date. I'd also expect this to kill the ICS update as well as it will not have passed Sprint's internal "QC and testing" and I do not believe Moto has authorization for a direct push.

I really hope that's not true - since they've officially announced the ICS update for the Photon, I would hope they keep their word. Although I've been frustrated with all the dead links throughout the forums here, I have been still very happy with the Photon vs the Evo so far, it's an amazing device.
Sprint's got me barely hanging on by halving my bill while the network upgrades supposedly happen -- but if speeds don't increase and awesome devices like this aren't supported, I'll be joining the hordes jumping ship to Verizon.

I hope this works out for Sprint. In two years, no iDen or WiMax networks. That should greatly cut costs.
I use to love Sprint, but now it's just like they're in the business of hooking you in for the business and then coming up with ways to increase your bill. I use to have 5 lines, all qualified for the company discount, then only 2, and now only 1. I've transferred my phone over to Google, so that moving forward I can switch between companies with minimal inconveniences. Sprint essentially has no high-end world phones....
OK, Most of you are missing the entire point! I have NO problems with my Photon. I LOVE MY PHONE!!!
Go back and read post #5 and #10 by lokifish Marz. Sprint s**t on this phone from day 1!! I said it in my OP, he confirmed it as a ex-Sprint empolyee!!!
I will tell you a funny story. August 20th 2011 my power button fell out, so I had to use my finger nail to cut it on/off. Me and 2 co-workers took it to Sprint at the Garden State Plaza on RT4 in New Jersey. Chick tells me, "I have one of the tech look at it!" No problem. This idiot comes from the back and the first thing out of his mouth, "Have you had this phone for 30 days or less?" Just like lokifish Marz said, no training and no marketing!
As for XDA Development, most of the heavy hitters have jump ship and do cleanup work here (which we are thankful!)
Now the new EVO is something to brag about, no doubt. But August 1st of 2011, This was by far the best phone available from ANY carrier, and Sprint gave it no love!
EOL would kinda suck as I was planning to keep this until March when my contract is up, then re-evaluate if I want to keep Sprint.
On the other hand, I do remember back in September the Evo 4g was on the EOL list for October. It still has not gone EOL. Then again that was a far more popular phone.

Its back on the list for "Early April". I dont get why EVO 3D is not on the list and Photon is?
Before getting the Photon, I had a Droid Eris on Verizon and I went through the same thing. Thanks to the xda devs and community, I was able to squeeze 2 years out of it. Before rooting and loading a custom rom, using the phone was a nightmare.
I guess I'm getting used to, and have the unfortunate luck, of buying the devices that receive the least support down the road. I chose Sprint, because I thought they were somehow less evil than Verizon but corporations will be corporations.
I still hope the Photon will have a long life after losing official support. I love the phone itself.

This sounds very familiar to me, except for me it was the Palm Pre instead of the Droid Eris. I'm starting to think I'm a curse - if I like a phone, prepare for it to turn into a stepchild and let the bitterness begin. Maybe I should go buy an iPhone and see if I can kill it...

you feel the Nexus is a good upgrade from coming EVO?
Did you see The Voice last night?
Carson Daly was flashing a EVO View 4G from Sprint. Isn't it a strange move from Sprint and/or HTC to be still promoting such an old tablet?
Strangely, the Sprint logo was sticked all over the HTC one. And also, it's running Gingerbread.
I haven't watched this season, but I did see it on there last season. Maybe they'll debut a newer version on there soon?

That does seem weird. I thought Sprint pulled them from shelves and HTC abandoned them-

They were promoting it everywhere on bet music awards few months ago . I thought the same thing when i saw it.
Kind of stupid how HTC sprint allows promotion on a discontinued device. With all this promoting its like taunting us owners about having a crippled honeycomb device that they wont fix. If its discontinued why promote it. Thats like promoting an hp touchpad months after the fireasale . Its irrelevant in todays society.
You'd be surprised, the Touchpad was still promoted even after HP's decision to cancel it, on Gossip Girl, for at least a couple of episodes, from what I recall.
Eitherway, Sprint's decision to promote the Evo View 4G is awkward because:
1. The device is discontinued. It's been discontinued for almost 6 months now!
2. The WiMax technology is not what Sprint is all about these days. Sure, they did not dump it entirely, but they won't be investing in it either. So why promote it?
Maybe Carson really likes it. Jokes aside, maybe HTC has a contract with them. And since HTC doesn't have another tablet, they'll do with the Gingerbread-running Evo View 4G.
