Hi All...i come from a iphone background so bear with me....
some background...i am in australia...and got the motorola from a local place that sell bell handsets out of asia. and its a bellmobility phone with OLYLA_U4_0.37.4 on it.
Now the question, just got a update notice from my phone, should i choose to update if i am going to try and put the telstra sbf on here along with greyblur or something?
as from what i have been reading some people have had success putting the telstra sbf on the bell handset and achieving uncapped speeds, plus the bell handset has a heap of stuff i cant access anyway as a none bell customer.
would this sbf work on my phone?

Ok everyone, I am a REAL NEWBIE and I've read most of the posts reagrding the SX56 and Rogers AT&T (Canada) but I really need some assurances and/or specific responses to my questions. Please help out if you can...
I want to bid-on / buy an SX56 on eBay and have it shipped to Canada for use on the Rogers AT&T network.
Do I need to do anything to get it to work on the Rogers AT&T network here in Canada. I understand I can simply use my SIMM card from my existing GSM phone.
However, I was talking with a guy from Siemens Canada today, and he cautioned me about buying a unit from USA because he suggested that they are usually "locked" for use with a particular carrier (AT&T or T-mobile). As a PDA or phone he felt that it would work. But, if I want to access the web, he felt I wouldn't be able to do so in Canada UNLESS the unit is "unlocked" and re-configured for use in Canada.
Does anyone know anything about this? Or even IF it can be done?
I am fairly competent with technology and computers, so don't be afraid be specific.
MANY THANKS, in advance, for all your help.... I really want to get this unit but they're selling in Canada for $800 CDN

The device does have to be SIM unlocked. There are tools on this site to do so if you need to.....and elsewhere as well. If it is not SIM unlocked you will NOT be able to use your existing card. If/once it is unlocked it will work on Rogers AT&T....mine does.
If you would like to see one in action, or see the new XDAII come to our users group meeting in Toronto tomorrow evening (Thursday)

...I'll be the guy with the Guinness hat on.
I'll see you there... are you serious about the Guinness hat? If so, I'll look for you.
Yup!
ACK! I wish I could go. I'm a good 8 hours' drive though, coming up from K'zoo, MI.
Howdy,
I've been using the SX-56 on Rogers for the past 4 months. Actually I just upgraded the radio yesterday and also threw on a cooked ROM and this is working so much better than before.
If I just knew how to make this work with the Rogers GPRS network for browsing life would be GREAT.
I have it set for
internet.com
user: wapuser1
pw: wap
no DNS
but is there something required in the dial patterns?
Anybody have any tips for GPRS on Rogers in Canada?
Thanks,
Jim
Have you SUBSCRIBED to a DATA PLAN with Rogers AT&T yet?
I understand that you need to add the DATA PLAN to your existing service for it to work.
Somewhere else in this Forum I read this... "You do not use goam, simply change that to internet.com and user name is : wapuser1 and password: wap. do not put any D.N.S. or anything. give that a try."
I forgot to ask you...
You UPGRADED the Radio? What do you mean?
Also, which "cooked rom" did you use?
I'm guessing that you need to "copy" the ROM file onto an SD Card and then load it onto your SX56??? Is that correct? What size of SD Card do you need?

Hi,
I do have a Data Plan with Rogers.
I think I need something modified in my Dial Pattern - not really sure how it should be changed.
Anyways - I went to www.yorch.net and went to the Upgrades. i was able to get a new Radio version for the GSM portion of the phone - simply download, hook up via cable and run the RSupgrade that is included in the zip - phone works 1000000% better now.
In the same site you can create your own ROM - i made one and added / removed different apps. Then i ran the ROM upgrade utility - I made it as an EXE and it simply redid my os on the PDA portion - took around 45 min to copy everything over.
I can't wait to get this working properly....

It should work with the settings you are using. How strong is your signal? If you have a weak signal it's not likely to connect.
Otherwise call Rogers and ask them to reset your acount, then wait a few minutes and give it another go.

Paragon:
Are you available to answer a couple of questions over the telephone tonight?
Did I give you my phone number at the meeting last week?
I've had my SX56 working relatively well with Rogers for a few months now too. However, I find that my signal is very weak compared to my faithful Nokia 8390. Do any of you guys have a problem with a weak signal?
I'm using ROM: 4.00.16 and Radio:6.12

I am in possession of both bell atrix and ATT atrix. I have to sell one and keep one but I cannot decide which one?
I like to have root access and play with roms. I have a lapdock as well.
what is your suggestion? which one should I keep?
You might be most qualified to answer this question since you have both phones. Maybe run quadrant on each.? Maybe Linpack too? And definately a speed test. You kind of have me wondering now if there is a substancial difference between the two phones. From reading around the forum it does appear the att version is recieving more attention.
Initially I would've said AT&T hands down..but now i'm not so sure. Since Seven's been able to get the Bell Atrix so that we can install At&T pseudo roms and themes..with the Bell atrix you're going to be more open to updates (from international carriers)..and thus more opportunity for potential updates.
Any bootloader bypass will most likely come from the At&t version however..so it makes it a tough call (although i'm sure once it's bypassed on AT&t's version..it won't be too long before it's applicable to the Bell/International versions)
as of now, I would stick with the AT&T version
I know that the bell atrix doesn't have sideloading disabled. i heard that this was an issue with the att one. Also, I'm not sure about the hsdpa+ speeds being blocked, I would check into that.
As suggested I ran Quadrant on both phones. some background about the phones:
1. ATT
original image, no mods, no theme, unlocked rooted, my primary phone
score 2652
2. BELL
modded phone using bell_deodex_v8, unlocked rooted
score 2803
I feel that the mod on BELL phone and/or ATT having more apps on it has to do with the difference in score.
---------------------------------------------
As for side rolling it is possible to open it on ATT if you have root.

Not to be cynical, but why do you have both and what carrier are you on? And what country? The AT&T seems to get most of the attention here, as well as Motorola's updates tend to arrive in the USA first, but it mostly depends on your preference.
Can i ask u guy which one is better for us in malaysia n singapore to flash aussie sbf telstra or stick to at&t becouse atrix are not sold in our country.at&t working fine here but are there any differ if flash to telstra sbf?
I'm running AT&T SBF in Singapore, working just fine. The only thing I dislike is that the mobile hotspot does not work - it is trying to check my AT&T subscription and won't enable it if that does not check out; which obviously it does not. But then again, there are a few free alternatives in the market for mobile hotspot, so no real problem.
Not sure if the Ozzie SBF is less restrictive, but you can give it a shot.
Btw, heard rumor that the Atrix is going to be sold in Singapore soon, possibly this month or next.
Found a "deal" on a SGSII branded from Bell - I live in the south US and want to know if I throw a ROM (say Cog or a US dev. ROM) or even if I odin back to a factory ROM from an AT&T model - will this work? I cant think of something that would cause this to be an issue & I'm pretty sure it would get rid of the Bell boot up screens or any other branding but I am not 100% on that as I have never taken a out of country phone and attempted to do this before. I'm no noob with flashing but I'm also no developer either so your experience & assistance is appreciated!
(I searched & couldn't find this answered)
You don't need to replace the ROM. If the Bell phone is sim-locked, you'll need the unlock code; there's an unlocker program in one of the other forums that works with the earlier ROMs. IIRC, more recent ROMs have a different unlock mechanism that hasn't been reverse-engineered yet.
You can't replace the Bell ROM with an AT&T one, since AT&T doesn't have one -- no US carrier has released the SGS2 yet. The factory ROM will do the job; I bought a EU SGS2 back in May and have used it on AT&T since then. I get 3G & HSPA+ data at speeds up to 7 Mbps, using an old 3G SIM I've had for several years.
Hi guys,
This is my first post I think, and I have a question about roms.
I purchased my phone from a company that assured me it was a Rogers branded phone. They were wrong, it's branded to Fido.
I'm uneasy about rooting my phone, but have done jailbreaking before, so I know the risks and such. My issue is this: I hate having the Fido boot logo, as well as the Fido account manager on my phone, I would rather it all be showing as Rogers.
How would I go about doing so? I saw a post before about someone who had the Rogers nandroid back-up, but I am unsure what to do.
Any help from you folks would be much appreciated.
