Im running Fusion1.1 on 2.1/JI6....my market insists on updating itself, even when i go to uninstall the update. Is there a way for me to stop this update from taking place? Maybe uninstall MarketUpdater.apk?
my reasoning is because for some reason my Metamorph market theme will not apply to this new updated market (even thought if i unpack Vending.apk it shows my modded framework)
I wish to install a newer version of Swype but can't due to the preinstalled version. Any way to remove it?
I don't even think swype recognizes the 3vo as a compatible device yet? At least when I checked on Wednesday it wasn't.
Also, the HTC trace keyboard is pretty amazing.
BANG! from my shooter...

Not without root I think.

Last paragraph. Requires root, though.

Has anyone had success with this? using this method I was able to get the new version of swype until reboot at which point the old version took over again. I understand that files are rewritten around boot time so i also attempted to use pm disable on swype to see if that would make way for the beta version but this resulted in a hang during swype setup at the licensing part. any success stories yet?
abrabren reported he managed to get it to work with temp root, so my guess is we'll have to wait for perm root for it to stick.
Updating Embedded Swype
SORRY IN ADVANCE, BUT I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT BECAUSE I AM A NEW USER, I CANNOT INCLUDE LINKS IN MY POST SO HAPPY GOOGLING TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN REPLACING THEIR SWYPE.
You can now replace the garbage embedded Swype with the hot new Swype Beta 3.0 with a little help from the Fre3vo temp root method.
To start, I highly recommend having all programs you will need installed on your Evo 3d. Start by downloading Titanium Backup as well as the most current version of the Swype Installer. Install both of these programs, BUT DO NOT LAUNCH THEM WITHOUT THE TEMP ROOT.
Next I would go into the keyboard settings and make sure that you do not have Swype set as your selected keyboard.
The next step is to use the Fre3vo temp root method to get single time root access.
As soon as you have achieved your temp root, immediately load into Titanium Backup. Doing this should prompt you for Super User permissions. Click "Allow" and you should have access to backup and modify your programs.
Move down the program list to Swype. Do not confuse Swype Installer with Swype. You can choose to backup Swype if you want, but I would not say it is all that important. On Swype select "Uninstall Program" to fully remove the embedded version of Swype.
Now close Titanium Backup and go right to the Swype Installer and follow the install instructions.
If all went well you should now have the Swype Beta 3.0, which will make you a very happy camper.
WHILE THE TEMP ROOT IS NOT STICKY THIS CHANGE IS. WHEN YOU RESTART YOUR PHONE YOU WILL STILL HAVE THE MOST CURRENT VERSION OF SWYPE.
Happy Swyping.
With 2.xx versions of Android Market we could prevent the market from updating to a newer version by "Freezing" Market updater.apk using Titanium Backup (I even tried uninstalling market updater).
This does not work with 3.xx versions of the Market.
Does anyone know how I can prevent the 3.xx Market from updating?
The reason I ask is that I use a themed version of the Market (3.0.27) and it keeps auto-updating to 3.1.5
nevermind didn't read the whole post

Automatic Updates have finally arrived! Once installed, this latest version of Swype will let you install updates on-the-fly via Swype Connect.
* When an update is ready, you'll receive an Android Notification informing you that an upgrade is available
* Install the update right through the Swype Settings window
* Your user dictionary and settings will automatically be saved during the update!
Version is 3.26. Just curious: I forgot to note what version of Swype came pre-installed on the phone. Does anyone know what it is? This is my first time updating Swype. The layout is much different.
3.23 was the version on my device but i updated it to 3.25 which included gestures for cut, copy, and paste.

You're not allowed to distribute Swype on XDA, other than the one that comes with the phone.

Ah, okay.
Seems odd, since it's not warez. It comes preinstalled, and is also available for free through their website for those who don't have it preinstalled. I just didn't know how to update it since I do already have it preinstalled.
On my Captivate I had awful problems caused by uninstalling the preinstalled version, so I could use the Swype installer, and was hoping to avoid that this time.
Thanks anyway.

If your phone came pre-installed with Swype DO NOT download this beta (it won't work)

EDIT: Also, this:
When trying to uninstall Swype through Application Settings the only reason why you would be unable to select the uninstall button is that you're attempting to uninstall the production version of Swype. This either came PreLoaded with your device, or your Carrier included it in an OTA update. Swype production can not be uninstalled.
If this is the case and Swype is not appearing as your input method, simply go to any application that supports text entry (such as SMS or Email), long-press on any text box (the place where text would appear as you type), choose Input Method in the popup, and select Swype from the list of available choices.
IF YOU ARE RECEIVING CRASHES AFTER AN OTA SYSTEM UPDATE: Because Swype Beta is incompatible with Swype Production and can not be installed over top you will need to find a duplicate Swype entry in your Application Settings (The entry for Swype Beta) and uninstall that. Swype will force close when trying to be used until Swype Beta is uninstalled.
If you have a production device and would still like to test the Beta for us the only way we can support you is if you install another ROM that does not come with Swype PreLoaded.
If you would still like to try to uninstall Swype on a production devices you will need to delete or rename /system/app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libSwypecore.so before installing the Beta. I will stress that this is NOT SUPPORTED in anyway. Some firmware has other framework customizations by the carrier that will cause further complications if these files are removed. If you try to uninstall Swype from a production device and break it the only advice we can give you is to seek instructions on how to reload your device with the stock rom.

I think if you uninstall the one that is preinstalled and then reinstall the beta it should work...I think...

Hi:
Yes, I was aware of that. I am actually a very good reader
That statement is actually not entirely true though.
On the Captivate (haven't tried on the new phone) you had to follow steps found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9160980&postcount=1
I actually worked perfectly.
My problem was caused by not having done enough research prior to deleting the original, so I didn't at first know to use root explorer to delete the appropriate file.
I am a bit of a worry wart, and almost had a heart attack prior to finding that post, because I thought I was going to have to live without swype lol.
Yea i removed the stock swype.apk.
installed from the beta.swype.com
clean rebooted. now everytime i swype in the word suggestion field it just pops up with "please try again". I can't swype anything.
anyone know how to fix this or things to try?
Have you uninstalled the Swype keyboard and the Swype installer and tried again?

Whoops, didn't realize that. Hmmm...I guess it's too late for me as I already uninstalled Swype and installed the version from their website. It works great so far. Is it saying that I will encounter issues when Samsung pushes out official updates for the phone?

That warning only applies to people who have not rooted and have a pre-installed version of Swype, if you have not rooted you can't remove system apps and will not be able to install the latest beta and have it work.
But for anyone who has rooted you can remove the pre-installed Swype and then install the latest beta directly from their website. It will not cause any problems.
