I came across this thread and called Sprint as instructed in the link. I was a few weeks past the 1 year mark of my 2 year contract. Called Sprint at the number listed and they upgraded my contract to a full upgrade to the $150 discount, buy-back option on my EVO 4G and the total out of pocket for me on my new EVO 3D is $50! I should have it delivered before Monday. Here's the thread pasted below that helped me do this:
Current Sprint Customers Turn your $75 dollar upgrade into $ 150, FREE! (Evo 3d for $199) Call this number direct line: (877)775-4886 a sprint person will answer.
If you upgraded your phone 12+ months ago and are still under contract, you automatically have a 75$ credit.
HOWEVER, people are reporting if you call that number and request to pre-order the phone and ask for the 199 price, that 9/10 times they say yes!

Did it occur to anyone in here that the OP is just excited about getting an awesome deal on this phone, and she is just sharing her experience, hoping she could help somebody else out in the same boat she is in?
You guys (the smart asses) swear this is just elementary knowledge that everyone knows. Most of the time a lot of people don't know there are great offers out there for customers. Individuals, like the the OP is just trying to share the wealth of knowledge.

Thank you for the welcome!! I'm not ran off that easily. I expect some of the more experienced members to throw some jabs at me, but that's alright. I've just found this forum recently and am just now learning how to customize my phone.
I came across this deal and utilized it for myself, and thought someone else would like the tip. I could have sold my EVO 4G on CList but, really don't want to deal with the hassle, so, the buy-back option was best for me!
I do appreciate the support! Being a n00b and all!!

Just ignore the flamers on here. A bunch of mama boys that rarely contribute to porting, deving, or pretty much anything.
Keep an eye on the EVO 3d developement threads. Some exciting stuff to come shortly from the best devs here. Talk to a few of them and when myn, virus, evokings, mikg, tommy, just to name a few get here, it will be flash central for the flashaholics.... I can't wait to throw down a couple ports myself...

Indeed it is very cool that Sprint is offering 150 Dollars Trade In for the 4G. As I had 2 Otterbox Defenders, an HTC HDMI Dock, and the 4G was replaced 10 Days ago due to 4G not working, I was able to get 300 Dollars on Craigslist for selling the EVO and all the Accessories save the Car Charger which still works.
However you slice it, 50 Dollars is a very reasonable price to upgrade into a 3D. Had I not gotten offers prior to my 3D coming, I would have traded mine in to the Sprint Store as well. Welcome to XDA.

Many of the other sections talk **** about the EVO 4G section because of the way a lot of people act in there. Unfortunately a lot of those same people are going to the 3D so it will likely be much of the same in here as well. Just gotta take it with a grain of salt and walk away (don't feed the trolls). Because I'm a geek, in medical school, on unemployment and it's summer, I spend way too much time reading threads. Not everyone is in the same boat and many people are new or casual users of this site so they end up missing a lot of things the rest of us have seen a dozen times. I'm just glad to see a new member doing what he/she can to try and contribute to the community.

I got mine from the shack. As far as I know, the store that I work at is still doing the discount on accessories, which is available only if you buy it from the shack. Also, we have a $4/month insurance plan that covers wear and tear, manufacturer defects, and batt. replacement, and a $7/month plan that covers all that plus accidental damage with a $100 deductible. You can also save some money by paying a larger sum up front. I don't have the pricing for those plans right in front of me. I'll try to post them tomorrow. Keep in mind though, that the plans do NOT cover loss or theft.

After all, we go through a large number of pages in each post. Why cant we do it on the main thread?
I'm not the only one complaining about the large number of useless threads on this forum. Why cant we be a little more efficient? This is not an XDA thing, this is a simple teaching point of using the internet to FIND information.

and i understand but at the same time when people blow up on someone for recreating a thread or something it just keeps it in the top just let it fall to the back it will only take a hr or less 9 times out of 10 to go to the second page or further
Thanks for all the responses. The search feature hasn't been working on my app for a while. Not sure why. Ill admit that I hardly looked around because I've been trying to stay up to date on the evo and 3vo sub forums. I just did not recall seeing anything. Pretty sure the above post was a joke, since he posted a link to the Lancer Evolution.
I do believe he's pointing out that the name of the phone isn't Evolution, but rather Evo. I know that Evo is generally a shorter term used for Evolution, but this is a name, not a term.

Well ima start a thread on why u like or hate the evo3d and what phone u left for it and if it was worth it. If it wasn't worth it what u rather goto then keep this phone. Also does not being able to customize (root&recovery) ur phone to the way u want it bother u or what. Its open talk, I woukd like to hear others on there opinions about there new evo3d or ones that want to get the 3d or don't want to get it.

Did you read the other 50 million threads that have been posted already asking the same thing filled with the same trolls?
Do you think your thread is going to end any differently? People are just getting tired of the same things getting posted over and over and over and over again and I am starting to agree with them.
People just need to start reading and stop posting. Maybe if the mods would lock the whole 3d section for a couple of days and not allow any new threads then everyone might be forced to read something and find the answer to all their questions!

I can understand what you are saying, I think, but I'm curious as to your native language.
I left my EVO4G for my EVO3D...it was awesome in some ways, sucked in others. I thought the cons outweighed the pros. So, I returned it and got an NS4G. Also awesome (amazing) in some ways, sucks (hardcore) in others.
So, now that my E4G is not sitting on my desk taunting me with it's superior aspect ratio and I have found that a signal strength meter is never to be trusted--on any phone...ever (I really did know better but got all panicky about my 30 days, bla bla bla)...God willing I will be going back to the 3D side tomorrow, wiser for the experience.
I will miss the NS4G camera though, holy **** it's amazing compared to any evo.
Yes, the lack of root and especially s-off upset me a great deal...that's one this the NS4G slaughters everything else at. But, given that HTC has given a timeline I will happily wait it out a little bit. Especially given the sticky-temp-root options we have.
...and as much **** as I talked about the 3D being a gimmick--and I still know it is--I used it WAY more than I ever thought I would and miss it more than any other feature of the phone....who knew.

I was wrong. Twice in one post. I admitted it. On the internets. Write this down folks, take a picture, cuz nobody will ever believe it.
I don't mind posting this for the 20 or 30th time lol. Mine is OC'd to 1.8Ghz with temproot and running ADW EX. It is the smoothest, fastest experience i've ever had on a mobile device. The resolution is so sharp and the colors so nice I could never go back to my EVO4G. I should just copy this in a text document so that I can easily paste it to answer this question.

I'm torn as well. Thinking about returning mine and going back to the OG Evo until some hardware updates come to this phone.
My camera is horrible for indoor pics. Outdoors or bright indoor light are better than the E4G but....the difference in indoor lighting with flash are putrid. I've flashed the LEDs a number of times and they seem to have a blue cast to them vs. a bright white on the E4G.
I don't have the data problems some experience. My E3D is ****ty where my E4G is ****ty. It's fast on 3G where there is a good signal area. Sprint just sucks right now....period! Not the E3D's fault.
Could care less about 3d....it's cool but if you are indoors, the pics are so horrible on my phone that I don't want to show what 3d is all about.
Also, torn on the form factor. Kind of like the wider E4G for my old ass eyes and fat fingers.
I've had some weird issues where the GPS on the E3D went wonky a couple of times. It was flopping all over the place and wouldn't settle down to a final reading. The phone got hotter than hell each time this happened. I had to factory reset my phone a few times to fix.
My screen is not yellow. But if I turn up the brightness to really look good, the battery life is not good.
The speed of the E3D is tremendous! Love it! No lags at all on my phone, except....when I launch a web site or Maps, etc.....When compared with the E4G, the 4G pops up a search, website, market, whatever much faster as far as the initial find. Once the E3D catches the site or app, it draws it faster. It just seems to stall catching the site or app.
So, seriously deciding what to do. Trust updates will fix all these issues (seriously concerned about the blue tint to the flash) or turn mine in and wait until I see there are newer hardware versions out. I do think the camera may be more than a software fix.
My humble opinion!

Since S-OFF hacking is out of my realm entirely, I don't have any concept of why the Rezound hasn't been unlocked yet (and every other decent HTC device seems to have been), but I can't help but wonder if it isn't just because the right person doesn't have one in hand.
If you're a dev that thinks you can help but don't have a phone to work with, PM me so we can discuss how I might be able to help.
If you're not a well known Dev here on XDA or AllDroid, please provide some references and/or credentials.
Most HTC phones did not get s-off in 3-4 weeks , and that is how long this phone has been out. Need to calm down.

His post seemed fine to me. He obviously read your's. Now read his. You said you had no idea why it was not rooted yet? He said NONE have been done that quickly at all. So calm down and let it happen. The developers have the phone. It takes time. I am sure you want to help, however your reply to a perfectly calm and reasonable reply makes me think I should also reiterate. Calm down, let it happen. I would anticipate since so many posts have listed why this one will/should take longer, that even if it was being worked on in a hurry it will be at least another 3-4 weeks minimum.
Like you said yourself " I don't have any concept why theRezound hasn't been unlocked yet". The phone has been out less than a month. Some HTC phones have taken several months to get s-off,they will do it as soon as they can. If you had read this forum you would have seen your offers have already been made weeks ago. I did not say anything mean to you, just said calm down. The last thing the Devs want is to be pressured.

I'm pretty excited at S-Off coming (whenever that is).
I donated when S-Off hit the incredible, and plan to do the same for the Rezound.
It's crazy the amount of dedication and time these people put into their phones for us.

Yeah, that's even worse than the whole "There, their, and they're" thing.
It's one thing to misuse one of those in a typed statement because you may not know the difference. But the capitalization thing is not so much a grammatical issue as it is a perceptual issue. I think it actually affects how the message comes across. The reader might take it as a little too self-important, or know-it-all snotty.
Am I the only one who feels that way?
I think it is amusing all the people whining (would you like some cheese?) about no S-OFF for the Rezound. How long has the Wildfire-S been out? It still doesn't have S-OFF? Money obviously isn't a surefire incentive.
Sucks because if it doesn't get unlocked soon I'm skipping it. That wildfire thread just scared the hell outta me.

I hope the Rezound doesnt suffer a fate like the Wildfire-S.
I just looked at the Wildfire-S's specs:
320 x 480 pixels, 3.2 inches screen
600 mhz
512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM (418 MB user-available)
5 mp camera
I don't want to say it doesnt have S-Off due to lack of enthusiasm. But, the Rezound at least doubles most of the Wildfire's specs, and maybe that will be enough to get more people on board to help with the S-Off?
Who knows. I'll just keep a positive attitude, and checkin the boards daily. I wish I had the technical knowledge and time to lend a hand, but my fiance already thinks that when we get married, that my phone will be my best man

No, the problem is it has been beat to death here that the s-off just doesn't magically appear and that it will take time and patience. The DInc didn't have s-off for what seemed like forever! And not every other HTC phone that is brandy new has had s-off right away either.
Just need to lay low and wait for things to happen. Your best recourse might be to contact those who are known to be working on it and see if they would accept any help/donations etc.
See, this is what I'm talking about here, HTC and their lies and bull****. The EVO LTE is the One X, yet, we have no ****ing 4.0.4 while EVERY OTHER US variant does. Well, that's the last damn straw with me... Proceeding to harass GPL off this bull****.

Some guy had the nerve to try and say I'm out of control. HTC is scrambling and losing because of bull**** post purchase service. If htc suddenly said "**** it, w need money so we are providing a universal s-off tool, BUT IT WILL VOID WARRANTY" people would buy the phones so damn fast it'll be like the itc hold up again. Samsung doesn't care about root and thats why they sale. Not to mention bull**** advertising by HTC. Yea, advertise beats audio with a guy running to bull**** music, let's forget slcd2 screen, beast specs & huge screen. Man, ass backwards, I won't be surprised if **** phone 5 doesn't smoke whatever bull crap phone htc is releasing next.

HTC isn't losing much at all from not upgrading their phones. The majority of Android users will not understand or care about version numbers. Android is no longer something for just "nerds" like us. It has the largest market share of any mobile OS. HTC is losing money because they don't have lower end phones, and also because the name isn't as well known as Samsung or Apple in the US.
1) HTC cannot guarantee an update window without being sure of it. With this update being new, they will still have to go through Sprint and all of that before it gets to us. HTC probably has no way of knowing how long it will take, so they aren't giving us any sort of ETA.
2) This phone will obviously receive the update. That shouldn't even be questioned. It is essentially the same phone as the One X, but locked down to a single carrier. This most likely makes us the last priority because we are the smallest group. The One X is available in many more areas than the Evo is. HTC probably wants to get through the biggest group first and then focus on us.
3) You're being unnecessarily angry. The update was just released TODAY, meaning that it probably won't even be on every One X for a few days at least. Just because some HTC drone paid to avoid giving you answers told you on Facebook that they don't have any information to share with you doesn't mean we will be waiting a month for this update to come. Could we have to wait that long? Yes. But there is no proof that we will.
4) The current update we are on with this phone is good. The phone itself works fine. Why do we need this update instantly? Would you prefer HTC rush it out and have to deal with bugs? Why would you want to do that? If it isn't ready for release yet, then you just have to deal with that. Pestering them on Facebook isn't going to get them to go any faster. Spamming them with e-mails probably isn't going to either. There is no legally binding document that says they have to release this update. They will though.
Honestly, it is common sense that we will see this update in the future. When will we see it? We don't know. But to go on an expletive filled tirade just because HTC doesn't have a bone to throw at you on the first day that the update is available on carriers that are much less restrictive than Sprint is just immature and unnecessary.
Newsflash: it's easier to update a phone when you don't have to go through carriers. Also, upgrading phones outside of the US is much easier because a lot of less restrictive carriers. It'll happen, but HTC had to focus on one or the other first, and common sense says we weren't chosen because we're the smaller group.
Exactly..and they have pretty much the same software besides the bloat apps..but believe me they are not very happy either..devs are leaving and the bootloaders are locked up tighter than a nuns ass...I don't understand HTCs intentions but it could all be fixed with one simple upload of source

Pro HTC? Can't you see, post purchase service is **** all across the board. The desire HD excuse is a perfect example. Your idea of carrier lock down is somewhat true BUT can be solved. I don't know why they let carriers muscle them. Apple says **** you, sale our **** or GTFO & they bend. HTC needs to do the same & Sammy does too. These cellular politics piss me off. I wonder what EXCUSE we'll get for not having android 5. I would much rather them come out & say "yo, we not upgrading your old ass phone. Buy a new one or GTFO"

you basically summed up the user base there. I dont think toddlers should be playing with smart phones, and trust me this aint no pitty thread. the last time I went M.I.A. there where a few thread asking where I went. you can enjoy your new devs, lol enjoy the ones that'll take our work and make 12+ version from it with no enhancements.

lmao. cap took his leave, I took min. as for threads is it so damn important who is the op? me chubbz and cap have been the active force in development on this device. ive gotten sick and tired cap has and it wont be long till chubbz does too. see this is a development forums, its not a forum for toddlers and retards who cant follow instructions or use a simple feature like search. im going dark caps going dark as for chubbz I cant speak for him, none the less it doesnt mean we havent stopped doing what we do, christ I just finished talking with em about getting beats and zoe working. as for sharing it here thats the issue. you (userbase) has been spoiled, its not our jobs to spoon feed you none of this is our job we decide to share things that we make and get working, and we get treated like we're here to serve people, **** that.
