both
I like them both, but they have their own specific features.
For Example:
Litening is one of the first roms, very fast and optimized, great theme.
..but maybe needs some apps removed..
Cognition is full with good features and also very clean.
..but maybe needs to be more optimized..
You just should check them out yourself.
Actually they are the best roms for the sgs2!
Other devs > roms needs to watch out
Lite'ning.
Why? Because of the awesome theme

I'm running Lite'ning v1.5 with the fix. it's great. sure there's some bloat with it, but I just froze those apps. Love the theme, love the performance and love the battery life of v1.5 (running kf2). Haven't tried cognition though so can't comment on that.

thx to all who answer me
The "new" litening 1.5. It is great.

Litening. Battery life is very good.
I haven't tried out Lite'ning yet, but the latest Cognition is very smooth, plus it's got some nice animations going for it.
Speaking of Lite'ning, does anyone know if you can install it using CWM? I don't have a Windows machine handy, and the latest files are confusing when trying to load them into Heimdall.

Totally agree:
I use Cognition, i came from Lite'ning.
Litening: "bigger", "prettier" and slower
Cognition: smaller, uglier and faster

By the way, any other ROMs out there with the Quality of these two?!

I've tried around 5-6 ROMs. My two favorite ones so far are Wolfbreak's TW007 and EWJet xKernal. I have noticed that EWJet xKernal has a smooter UI but not as great battery life compared to Wolfbreak's TW007. (Also the fact that the latter is 2.2)
I'm looking for the best ROM that fits these criteria:
- It doesn't have to have the smoothest of UIs. I don't need to be able to literally blow the screen to flip homescreens.
- I want something that is FPS uncapped.
- It has to have an improved battery life and tweaks.
- I do not mind an ugly user interface or ones that are very easy to navigate. I do not mind learning new things so long as I don't have to climb mount everest to navigate through.
- I do a lot of gaming, so something that has less lag during gaming would be much appreciated.
- I prefer the ROM to come without it's own custom music app like EWJet's UberMusic. I bought PowerAMP and I'm loving it.
- It does not have to have the best camera or video camera ever. I don't often record stuff but I do often take pictures of things.
- I want a ROM whose creator is frequently working on improving the ROM and making it much better.
That and a few more trivial matters that I don't need to put on here. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
Maybe try cobratos formels miui rom? V4 has the new zkernel included which unlocks the fps cap. Just flash bb 67 then try his rom. I tried it....its pretty sweet.
Anyone else? 80 views and only one reply

Gingerbread is comming this august! Every1 is waiting for it and just doing minor fixes.
stick with WB's and get launcher pro, it allows you to rotate the home screen and looks great because it is whatever you want it to look like. it's free, but i bought it for the extra features. I made mine look like windows with custom icons and a windows wallpaper =D

Hello everybody, I'm opening the thread just to read opinions from you all about the kernels that are currently available.
The one I've been using is void #echo, which in my humble opinion with the combination of a tweaked deadline scheduler and a lionheart governor provides great performance, battery life and minimum lag whatsoever.
I do understand that it depends on needs which shall be used, however, I would like to know which one to you guys works smoother and provides better performance / battery life.
I always aim for performance over battery life (I didn't buy a SGSII to get poor performance )
In terms of battery life, I can get it up to 22~23 hours on battery, using WCDMA only / HSPA+ during day and enabling airplane mode during night.
Fast Dormancy disabled and deep sleep working correctly (XXKL1).
I don't like the complexity of siyah and to be good on batt you have to tweak it more with UV and thing like that ,wish is not my style to make trying/errors on my brand new 600$phone !
I tried speed mod wish is very great actually with great overall perform
void echo is the one Im trying right now ! since 2 days its feel very strong and good on battery with good performance on games without getting the phone very hot
neak is good but its more a copy/past of the overall coders over wish is good in one sense but its a bit laggy in game with lucrative mod but defenatly one of my favorite kernel out there ! Im waiting for 1.3 to let simone correct some bugs
Siyah is the tweakers' heaven. You can fine tune every last bit of your phone.
I personally love void, it feels very fast and has good battery life.
I tried NEAK for a short time and it seemed fine but quite many report lag in games(using on demand governor seems to fix it though).
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm waiting for N.E.A.K 1.3x too

as one of the posts above said siyah is the tweakers heaven..haha trust me i never used it before as i thought it was to complicated. but once you have done your reading and read other peoples posts and what they do to get the best out of the kernel you have a winner...all the rest look good i am not saying anything bad but for me from now on any rom i use siyah is coming with me due to the fact it has so many options to it and so much i can play around with i am in heaven
hope that helps...oh and on a side note i have been tempted to upgrade to a different rom but the current base i am using and with the kernel i have and the settings that i am using the only time i will actually jump ship is if one there is a stable cm9 out there by the amazing team hacksung. Two if Gokhanmoral does a siyah kernel for cm9 which i think will be when kernel sources are made available and three cause i have already my voodoo app all configured with my poweramp player to get the best sound possible i would be foolish to make the step at this moment of time...
So my advice for battery speedmod if you are not into tweaking alot with voltages and clock frequencies and if you want the best of both worlds then siyah
siyah 2.6.4.

Great feedback bro, I tried Siyah in the past but honestly when I used it I didn't know there were parameters to tweak (didn't check the REF documentation LOL).
Do you get smoother behavior / better performance / higher benchmark scores tweaking the parameters? In quadrant I get around 4604 with void.echo.
as my "personal" opinion...
since i instaled V3RTR3MA.V.4.0 rom, i've been using void#echo
couldn't ask for more its fast and stable... nothing too complicated and i could get 8186 in the quadrant benchmark... a really great kernel...
void echo.By far best kernel for common user, who doesn't want to do all kind of tweaks&stuff.By default is great. If you are into a litle tweaking, you can OC and UV without any issues.
I used it since it was released. No issues at all, battery friendly, great performance.
Trully a KISS principle follower.
My personal advice to all, avoid all roms&kernels that are heavily customized and have alot of useless "tweakes" and scripts on them. The more things on it, more chances of breaking up.
Look for simple builds,as close as it can be to stock, eye candy is not performance.
Jkay makes great themes wich you can apply to the rom.

100% agree most of the battery better and greater speed for these kernels is actually unproven and just advertising bumf .
I have used the kernels listed in the topic and in each case stock kernel has benchmarked better using multiple tests .

I agree with your opinion, and that's the reason why I use only Sammy Stock ROMs
I've flashed a number of roms and kernels in the past few months since May, best combination for me is usually a near stock rom, plus a stable kernel like Speedmod, they just work without needing any tweaking apart from custom set up that's it.
I don't generally like the number of tweaks in some roms but each to their own.
I find stock fine and fluid and stable enough without much problems.
Yeah..i get 6500+ without rawr and oc to 1600.you forget one thing,ALL other kernels have tweaked I/O scheduler enabled. Knzo says very clear in his thread.it's a way to cheat, that's why this tweak is not default on his kernel.
About rom, look for odexed.tornado2 by brotuck is one of the best around(odexed, pretty much stock, only useless apps removed from it).combined with jkay theme and coid echo...my s2 flies

Thanks for the suggestion dude! I'll take a look to it! Beside the removal of stock apps, what tweaks are included to achieve that score?
Best kernel so far for me is hardcore's speedmod.
Fast, first time I broke the 6000 barrier on Antutu benchmark without overclock. And great battery life, one full day + charging only by the end of day two, with normal use.
Normal use for me is making phone calls, surfing web and playing games sometimes, not more than 20min per "session". Turning wifi and 3g off when phone on standby. And switching to airplane mode overnight.
And yes I tried other kernels....

Hi guys ,
as you are well aware I'm new here, and have made an account on XDA so I can share my opinion and also read yours in hope of a solution.
Anyway I'm currently running an official 2.3.6 ROM on my Ace, and have gone through just about everything the Development section has to offer, from TheMyths' ICS to unofficial CM7 Kang builds, but I'm still looking for a perfect blend of stability, battery, lag free (smooth) ROM's.... And need help deciding.
So far I've noticed that the CM7 builds seem to have the best performance (benchmarked by Quadrant standard) and works fine, however I haven't had the time to observe the battery life...
Ultimately an ICS clone would be sick, I love the style, since CM looks fugly in my opinion.
Also would like to know what kind of tweaks you guys use for your Aces' to get a little extra juice from your batteries...
Thanks
Hm....You could try and use SGS2 rom from space caker,or gingercruzt or infinity, both from nims11

I'm using GadgetCheck's V8.5 Supercharger tweaks, plus Slaid's SlaidFASTMod V2.5 (not updating to his new LagFree scripts since I experience some odd UI lags here and there (ironically)).
If you really want to save on your batteries, try setting your governor to conservative or powersave (though powersave will lag your phone to the point of 1984) and don't overclock (flash a non-OC kernel, if you want).
And check out JuiceDefender. It'll turn off radio connections when the screen is off, and I saved around 165% worth of battery life with that app. The only downside is is that it ****s up with push notifications, and I need those for my IM and email.
EDIT:
I forgot, you asked for a specific ROM.
Well, I for stability and efficient battery consumption, I recommend you just stick with stock ROM (or something based on it), since it was compiled specifically for SGA hardware. My longest relationship with a stock ROM was fla.sh's fla.sh X2.3 ROM followed by sametpoyraz's Glsmt 2.1 (I know it says Glsmt 3.0, but a download link was never provided). Both of them are considered dead projects, but that doesn't mean that the ROMs aren't half bad!
Thanks [/QUOTE]
i've had problems flashing 2.3update of that rom, have you tried the rom?
I Am useing The Infinity Rom Final And Its Great With Performace And Good With Battery Life!

For stability and speed, I hands down recommend ICS Final. The rom I'm using. As for battery life, you can have the best battery with ANY kind of rom. Just check out the thread on my signature ;D
Thanks for all the replies to my thread thus far... will definitely try that SetCPU... As far as Slaids scripts go however, I did once try that but found my device would have lag, that being screen tearing.
I know that everyone is probably tired of the "best rom" thread which keeps on popping up everyday and I don't really think that snubbing them off is the correct thing to do. Most of people who ask such questions are probably new to the forums or not so regular so they don't even know that and such thread was locked or the rules and stuff, which I guess makes this thread very necessary.
Here people can post their experiences or their opinions about the various roms that they have tried. This will create sort of a place where you can find where you can find opinions about all the roms instead of browsing through threads of all those different roms. I will also try to update the first post, giving a brief common opinion about the most popular roms on the device. New members, as well as existing members can use this thread to find out easily which rom might be the best for them and there won't really be a need of any "what's the best rom?" thread anymore.
But for all this, I would need help of all your members. If you try any rom, post your opinions, comments, reviews here instead of the dev thread of that rom. I by myself can't try all the Roms so without contribution of all you people, this thread wont last long!
To avoid confusion, let's follow this format for now for posting!
1. Name of the Rom (with version no.)
2. Any additional performance scripts (if any)
3. Time since you are using the Rom
4. Pros
5. Cons
6. Comments / Short review in your own words
Also, NOTE : This is a Rom review thread. I guess you can ask question about someone's review but don't go around, posting here what's the best Rom because that kind of defeats the purpose of the thread doesn't it?
If the users and moderators agree, I guess this thread can be made sticky too so that it doesn't get lost and people can access it easily.
More will be added as I remember.

everything you've always wanted from a performance engine, but you never dared to ask
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _______________
Here I am back with another mod of the Pure™Series.
After improving the system sound quality and graphics, it is time to improve Android. But be careful! This is not the usual performance engine which adds only script in the / init.d folder,
This time will be improved the android system at 360°! Basically this engine is a collection of concepts of all performance engine of the forum, that none of us will ever be able to install because many would conflict.
My testers were stunned by the power of this engine, but why not try it yourself? Are you ready to receive scary performances, to blow up the AnTuTu score counter?
Well, talk about serious stuff

- Of course PureGraphics HD, even though I already told you
- Of course V6 supercharger
- Generates video entropy (like seeder)
CPU, Governors, I/O Schedulers
- Slightly improves the scaling of the frequencies (for better results you need a good kernel)
- Lightens the load on the CPU switching the workload to GPU rendering
- Enable the swap partition in Android (experimental)
I've said too much, man. Install this engine and discover its power!
◢ Compatibility ◣
This engine works on any devices with any rom, but there is a version for CM's rom and one for stock based firmwares. So, CMx.x, Lewa Os, MIUI, etc.
Install the stock version only on your stock firmware of your phone....
if your device don't have gingerbread or ICS officially, install the CM version (This also applies to the AOSP)
Wish i had balls to flash it on slimkat 1.95 4.4.2 haha if anybody tested it please post your reviews here i may give it a shot when i get home :highfive:
Thanks for sharing it laofan :good:

What I do is make a nandroid backup in twrp first, then flash the version for my rom. For you would be the cm version.
If anything goes wrong, you could always restore your backups.
For me, I found stock rom is faster then PA Rom. After flashing this mod, the stock Rom is at least as fast as PSX. ( I have two LGOGs for now to compare )

I am trying to collect some balls to flash this , since in past two weeks my phone has gone through 3 times LGNPST , 8 times ROM install and several nandroid restoration and backups.
I am on stock rom 4.1 JB , rooted and unlocked. I am using Android Tweaker pro. edition , it has similiar tweaks to this , like Bravia Engine , and Network tweaking , etc.
Would you suggest to try this over the Android Tweaker , becaue it seems tooo tempting to me. I will see if I can Backup the current rom again , and try this.
I also have to try the camera mod , too. Which I saw in Nexus 4 sections . Editing media_profiles.xml .
Will report tommorow , if things go allright.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW , I just want to confirm that there ae no scripts in this , which will force the hardware beyond it's normal /stock range , right ??

@Rishi. I know all that troubles in flashing roms. At the very beginning I also go through LGNPST several times. After all those effort, PSX and stock are my personal favorites.
For my device, the only mod for me is this PurePerformance Mod. I haven't try other mods yet. For now, I am happy with this mod in stock rom. I try playing games( temple run, minion run) and browsers ( dolphin browser) , this mod makes performance at least as good as PSX.
One suggestion is after you flash this rom, you might need to reboot several times to let system settled down itself. We all need time to get used to new stuff, so do phones.
I might try the Android Tweaker Mod later on. But could you link the camera mod please? I also want to try
We could just share all the mods that really boot performance and sharp the phone :highfive:

Here we go , the camera mod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073013
I tried it today itself but never had the chance to take a pic yet . Let me know if it improves the quality. BTW , take nandroid backup if possible.
@laofan the link is broken.
NEver mind , I downloaded it using the main thread. Will be installing it today after nandroid backup completes.

Holy Sh!t.!!!! This made it times faster , my stock rom is running like as if some just pressed the Nitrox button.
Seriously , it's fast !!!!!!! No problems yet.

I just updated the link. Now should be OK.
This mod is really a killer! Enjoy it and you may try it on some other rom/device too
Oh man i wanna flash this on slimakat it become slow and non responsive lately.. you guys are tempting me i guess i will do it on new years eve haha
I am going to do various kinds of benchmarks and post the results on this new year's eve.
I like the stock ROM, but cannot handle the audio latency. Its almost a full second gap between screen and sound. Does this mod address audio latency?

Installed on stock JB. Phone seems much quicker. Thanks

@laofan ,I have taken several benchmark tests and have uploaded them here( in case if you want to include them in OP as a bench). Currently running this mod on stock jellybean with eco-mode and power saving turned off.
Linpack , Vellamo 2 HTML 5 , Vellamo Metal , Quadrant Standard , CPU Prime Benchmark , BenchMark Pi , AntuTu benchmark.
Let me know if someone wants me to test any other benchmarks using this , requests are welcome for those who are looking to try this.
Would appreciate if some one shares their result too.
I use Antutu and It always scores higher then Nexus 4.
What really matters here is I could hardly notice any lag. It just runs so smooth after this mod.
After so many rom flashing on different devices, I found that it is NOT true that the higher android version, the smoother of performance.
There are some roms( even just stock) that are just running so good even they are just lower android. I have two phone right now , Motorola Atrix HD and the LGOG, now both running stock or stock-optimized rom. And right now there is very few roms could compete with them.
For now I am hoping LGOG could get official 4.4 update. otherwise maybe I would wait a few more months to go back to PSX stable.

How much do you use to get on Antutu with your OG ? Mine as the pic says , challenges Xperia Z . Very close to it.!!
And yes , it runs very smooth indeed. But the device is already so fast that I just can't differentiate. , Krait S4 pro , Cores are really fast and furious , though a bit power hungry.
Generally the more optimized and stable a rom is the better results it'll have in user experience. I had experienced this phenomenon on my Motorola Atrix too.
And as far as Official 4.4 update goes , I hardly have any faith left in it. PS , I don't like 4.4 looks, I prefer JB's appearance. I would prefer a JB 4.3 rom with positive optimizations of 4.4 .

Latency with movies is fine. It's games where it kills it.

It is wired. I am playing temple run 2 and minion run now , and my phone has no issue with sound and display.
There is a thread in development section about stock rom, you could try flash that one.
If you don't like stock rom, this mod could also use in other roms. You need to use the CM version for other roms.
Let me know how things goes with you phone.
If you still could not fix it, maybe try contact ATT for a replacment as long as your phone is less than one year old
