Stuck at boot screen - can't seem to fix. =/ - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I didn't want to have to start a new thread, but I'm at a loss for what else to do. =/
I've been flashing back and forth between Android and WP7 for several months now, without any problems, but now that I need to revert the phone back to stock WinMo 6.5, it's just not working. Any ROM I flash, the phone boots into the white screen with green "HTC" logo, then shows the lettering in the bottom corner detailing ROM and Radio and whatnot, then that's it. It just sits at that screen indefinitely.
I've got a UK-spec unlocked HD2.
In the tri-colour bootloader screen it currently shows:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x50
The ROM is the official HTC WWE ROM - RUU 3.14.405.2 with Radio 2.15.50.14.
I've tried Task29'ing my phone, flashing via USB, flashing via an 8GB FAT32 MicroSD card, and nothing seems to work, it always flashes, reboots, and then hangs at the white screen with green HTC logo and red lettering in the corner. I'm at a loss. I need the phone reverted to stock as I'm recycling it and they won't accept it with Android (obviously). =/
If I've missed something obvious, I'm really sorry - any and all help and/or scathing criticism is greatly appreciated.
Update - I just tried a custom ROM, using HSPL4 to change to SPL-2.08.HSPL, and it has the exact same problem. Flashes just fine, then hangs at the screen with the red lettering in the corner. What on earth is causing this? =/

Has anyone got any ideas? =[

Task29 only works with HSPL on your HD2.
Try to install SPL3.03 again by using HSPL4.
Have you tried to boot your HD2 without SD card inserted?
Have you tried to make a hard reset by removing the battery, waiting a few seconds, inserting the battery, pressing and holding the volume up and down buttons at the same time and pressing the power on button while holding the volume buttons?
By the way there are many threads with the same topic like yours with different solutions. Just use the search function with keywords "hd2 stuck white screen".

Yeah, I had 2.08.HSPL installed coming from my Android NAND ROM. I Task29'd the phone to clear out the NAND.
I've booted it without the SD card inserted, no difference. I've hard reset it (forgot to mention this in the original post =/) and it makes no difference.
And I've searched through the threads - there was nothing specific to my problem that I could find, hence my posting here. All the "Stuck at white screen" threads usually have had a problem with flashing the ROMs, or the radio hasn't installed, or they're stuck at the screen before the red lettering shows up in the bottom corner. =/
Everything about it suggests my phone should work - the ROM flashing never fails, the bootloader always shows that the ROM has installed correctly, and the white HTC screen confirms that ROM/Radio etc. have all been flashed. It just stays at the white screen with green HTC logo and the red lettering, it never moves beyond there. I've tried two stock ROMs, and a custom ROM. All have installed, all have frozen at the same point, the screen with the radio and ROM information in red lettering. =/

Maybe it's because of the combination of (H)SPL, RADIO AND ROM???
Have you tried to install WP7 or Android again, just for testing?
Sometimes, but seldomly, it seems there are leftovers from HSPL 1.66 or 2.08 altough bootloader shows SPL2.08 or 3.03 which are causing difficulties.
Try to install and remove HSPL2.08 by using HSPL2_RUN.exe before you start flashing a new ROM. Some useres in different threads reported to solve strange behavior be doing this procedure.
Good luck.

I just flashed magldr and a NAND ROM to it, both worked flawlessly, and it's now running Android as it always has, no issues.
I'll try flashing a WinMo ROM now, and see if it accepts it. If not, I'll try HSPL2_RUN and see if that helps anything. Thanks for your help =].

I tried installing and removing HSPL2.08 with HSPL2_RUN.exe. I then installed SPL1.66.0000, and flashed the WWE 1.66 ROM. It flashed fine, rebooted and... Nothing. It's still hanging at the white screen with green HTC logo and red information in the corner. I'm beyond confused as to what could be causing this. Everything about my phone is telling me the ROM has flashed. It's even charging while off, and the LED changes from orange to green when it's full. The Android NAND ROM I flashed confirmed this. *flummoxed*

That sounds really strange...
Last thing you can try:
- be sure to have SPL1.66 on your HD2 by using HSPL2_RUN.exe
- format you SD card by using SD Formatter and a card reader
- download latest STOCK ROM 3.14 again from HTC homepage by using your HD2's serial number
- extract the downloaded file by using 7-zip or something similar
- copy the ruu_signed.nbh file to your SD card by using a card reader
- rename the ruu_signed.nbh file on your SD card into LEOIMG.nbh
- remove your HD2's battery
- wait a few seconds
- insert battery and SD card
- press and hold volume down button and press power button while volume down button is pressed
- release the buttons when you HD2 is powering up
- follow the instructions given on the HD2's screen
One of my step by steps, but I believe you know how to flash ROMs with SD card method.

I just tried following your steps... nothing . Although, I did notice this time, flashing via SD card, that the update failed. It got part of the way through then stopped and changed to the black screen with the grey warning triangle. When I loaded back into the bootloader, it briefly showed "ROM upgrade error, please try again" and RUUNBH in the top corner, but it then proceeded to load the update from the sd card and install it. The update worked, I rebooted the phone, but again it stuck at the white background, with the green HTC logo and red lettering. Once again the red lettering and the bootloader are saying the flash was successful... but I've left the phone for half an hour and it doesn't progress beyond the white screen.
Is there any reason it failed, then flashed, says it's flashed, but isn't booting?

Sorry, but I have no answer to your question.
Sadly I have no further ideas how to reactivate your HD2 with WM6.
Maybe there is another guy having a solution.

Help! Cooked Rom, after flashed ROM device ever reboots

Hallo I have a big Problem,
I cooked a ROM and flashed it on my MDA Vario 2. After Reset my device starts to boot an then it went out and starts again, ever and ever. Nothing else happens.
I tryed to go into Boot-Mode (left "OK" + "Power" + Stick Reset) but nothing happens.
What can I do, please help me
Swith your device off. Then go into bootloader mode (left "OK" + "Power" + Stick Reset(hold it))
Hey Ghz,
I did this but without any effect. The device was out, then I tried to go in bootloader mode (I did hold the two buttons and the Stick) but it went not in boot-mode. It starts again and again. I only can stop it by taking off the battery.
Have you try put in your charging/USB cable without installing the battery? After that try go get in bootloader mode.
I but the USB cable in (without battery). The LED went red. Then I made the Reset and tried to get in boot but nothing happens. Then I Put battery in. LED went orange. Then I tried the bootmode. But the device only tried aigain to boot again and again. I'm getting stupid with this thing. I can't get into bootmode.
When you say that "it boots over and over", how far is it getting in the boot process? What is the last screen that loads before it starts to boot again?
Also, have you tried reflashing with a known working ROM using SD Card method?
What version of SPL was on the device when you flashed this ROM?
Was the ROM you created an OS-only ROM or was there more? If there was more, then what else?
It starts booting. All numbers appear (at the bottem). Then, when normaly the "HTC" animation would start, it breakes and starts again.
It was an OS-Rom (3.61) with several other programms (I exactly don't know jet). The SPL was 1.04 I think (If that is possible).
I cooked the ROM and I forgot to add two other boot-screens I think. Because it breaks when the first boot-screen should appear (I think).
Flashing with SD Card was also without any effect. I think it breaks to early to boot from SD (Or may it be, because I can not enter the boot-screen?)
Sorry my erglish is not the best

Don't worry about your English - it is very good.
Even if you did not put splash screens in your ROM, it would not be a problem, because it would just keep the ones that were already on the device.
I know that his does not help you, but it would have helped you to flash HardSPL, because it sounds like you *may* have corrupted the IPL or SPL, since you cannot put the phone into bootloader mode and it is not getting past the bootloader at startup. Unfortunately, I do not know a way to fix this. HardSPL would have prevented this, because it protects the bootloaders from overwriting. I wish I had better news. Maybe someone else can help...

HTC S740 not booting/error screen

Hi
When I turn on my phone all it shows is red, green, blue and white stripes across the screen with the following text:
ROSE100
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-Rose (LED) v10
MicroP-Rose (key) v5
PCBID 0x80
RID 0x0
At the bottom of the screen it also says "Serial", but displays no actual serial. Please see attached pic.
Please help guys. Problem initially started when phone collected dew on cold morning (camping).
Thanks!!!
You seem to be in the "flash screen".. I did that on my phone by accident, pressing power and one of the volume buttons.. Try pulling the battery out, put it back and see if it starts normally.
I have the exact same problem. Mine happened all of a sudden for no reason after turning my phone off and trying to turn it back on. Please post if you find a solution
Well, you can try to reflash your ROM. Many official ROMs can be found here.
Hi, I got the roms, but where can I read how to put the new one on my phone using my computer?
Ok, I got it I just run the .exe file to update my rom. However, there is just one problem, it says you should connect activesync to your phone. How tf do I connect activesync as my phone does not load any OS?! I tried without activesync but it doesnt work - it freezes on 0% update and after a while it runs some kind of recovery steps. So how do I get pass the activesync thing? Thanks
You can't upgrade ROM via activesync if u don't have acces to windows mobile, you can do it only from SD card.
Here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M7OEOF2N (pass: xda) you find a Rose service manual and at the page 45 you find "ROM Image upgrade thru SD card" ...it's not complicated, read carrefuly.
Ok I read it but when I press the power button for the second time it says "No image file". I renamed the file to RoseIMG.NBH. What am I doing wrong?
I don't know what are you doing wrong ...try to rename the file to "ROSEIMG.nbh". Where did you download the ROM? ...I recomend you to put the same ROM you have on device because you don't have installed HardSPL (and I don't know if you can install it from SD card). Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=599520 are the officials roms for S740.
PS: I never tried this method on S740, I do it once on tytn II and works perfectly.
Here is how I got it to work:
Left it in the boot mode with the colorful screen until the battery is decharged enough, then tried to put it on again and it automatically turns off. So I put the USB cable in it and walla it started loading the battery and it turned on automatically and loaded WM. However, I still can not flush my ROM even through activesync.. but I am glad I can use it again.
something many forget with this fault, and I have seen quite a few is it is often not a rom issue but a hardware problem... in this case it may be a faulty up volume button, or maybe the plastic cap has shifted keeping the button held down, does the button still click ok?
The monet was a swine for the camera button giving up the ghost and doing nothing but dropping to boot loader......

[Q] Rom upadting special error

Hi there,
I have some problems, which I cant solve using your forum.

Yesterday my Leo shut down and I couldnt turn on it. Today I've trided Hard Reset, but nothing was made. i can turn my phone on with white screen only. So i decided to reinstal ROM. If its important, when I'm installing, on the instalation Window, where should be written the current wersion of my soft, there's norlng, just empty place.
maybe I should do something like formating my htc or instal something other than ROM?
thx for help!
you could try to flash with sspl. maybe you have installed the 3.14 rom and removed the hspl.

1.try task 29(find on xda) and after that installing HSPL3.
2.after this flash any rom (including stock but i wouldn't recommend newest as we don't have newest hspl and you'll be stuck with, or you will have very small ram(50mb) if you keep older one)
I can't run task 29 from bootloader, the same problem as with ROM, it stops on 0%.
maybe some advices how to run task 29 on bootloader, maybe im doind sth wrong?
I think we have the same problems,
aktiv sync dont work, bootloader modus works,
cant find any solution in the forums,
i have tried flashing from pc and from sd card, no success
what about couple of hard resets on boot(hold down volume buttons) and perhaps try another computer or USB cable-if your friend has one newer etc...
i know from the times i had Omnia that RUU can have probs with computer also.
And have a look at this could help..
i tried all of your tipps but nothing works.
Hspl 2 and 3 do not work.
Here my bootloader information:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
Please help!
Did you update your ROM or Radio version? I read that white screen occurs due to incompatible Radio version.
Anyways, I screwed up my OS today by installing 'Gaz Touch Tools' and on reboot my phone showed some file was missing.. nothing was working.. phone wasn't responding well. couldn't even connect via activesync.. Right now installing Official ROM using MicroSD card.
Update in progress..
RADIO_V2 - OK
RCUST - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK
SPLASH1 - OK
OS -
CONFIGDATA -
EXTROM -
^ as the progress bar increases, the blank spaces change to OK
What I did - Formatted the MicroSD using FAT32, extracted the RUU_signed.nbh from the exe downloaded from HTC website and renamed it to LEOIMG.nbh and copied it on MicroSD card. Inserted card properly in device, started device by holding volume down button. Voila!
Update: Done installing, working fine!
Got the same problem with mine straight out if the box. SPL-1.42.0000
Charging light not working. Sometimes it goes in to bootloader when powering on and sometimes white screen with logo. I'm not impressed!

HD2 Bricked - Empty white screen

Hi,
I have a problem with my HTC HD2, thing is that the phone it's not booting correctly, all i got when i power on the device, it's an emty white screen... without the green HTC letters.
I got installed a cooked ROM, BsB Beast 6.1, with radio 2.12.50.02_2, and i was running Android from SD when all this **** started, two weeks ago. The phone battery ran out while i was on Android, a couple of hours later... i got home and plugged the phone for charging. When i pressed the power button, the phone boots with that blank screen.
I can get into the bootloader, and it's showing this info (whitout the underscores):
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
_____________0x05
_____________0x30
CotullaHSPL
I've tried many different things and none seems to do anything at all:
- First of all, i did a hard reset. The process ends OK but the phone stays doing the same
- Then, i tried to flash again the same ROM i was using. I was unable to do that by using CustomRUU and PC connection. The phone it's detected by the PC, and the bootloader screen shows that it's conneted by "USB". Then, i executed the CustomRUU app, following all the steps and, when the phone should start flashing the progress bar doesn't get past 0%, both the phone display and PC. After a few minutes, CustomRUU gives an error saying "timeout" connection. I've tried to do this from different USB ports and different PCs with the same result.
- After those fails, i tried to flash again the cooked rom from SDCARD. The process ends OK, saying "Update Complete". Then, i rebooted the phone but the blank screen remains the same way. That cooked ROM doesn't have radio.
- After that, i decided to flash a stock ROM. First, i tried to make a "Task 29" to the phone, but i got the same problem than with the cooked ROM. The progress bar doesn't get past 0%. With the stock ROM the problem was the same again. Then, i tried to flash the stock ROM from SDCARD. The process stops at X% saying 0018003 RADIO - FAIL. I've got this error each time i try to flash a ROM with radio or a radio itself.
- I was able to do a "task 29" by using MTTY, but nothing changes when i try to flash any ROM after that.
- i've tried to upgrade my HSPL, by using both HSPL2 and HSPL3. Both programs detects my version of HSPL, then the process starts and ends saying "Succesfully done" but nothing changes in my bootloader, it's still saying that i got 1.42.HSPL
Since i can get to the bootloader, i hope to have any chance to get this device back to life.
I've readed some posts here and within other forums, i've tried with many different cooked or stock ROMS but nothing works
I hope to find help here, thanks in advance and, sorry if my speaking it's not 100% correct
yet another "i was running android and...........now my phone won't boot".. thread. makes me glad i don't bother with android...tried it once and had to hard reset, never touched it since, heh.
for the sticking at 0%,and timeouts etc, try and always enter bootloader yourself, then wait for serial to become usb, and then run customruu. this way you can also visually confirm hspl is there(or not there, depending what you are doing) and it should cure certainly the timeouts.
if i were you, i'd concentrate on getting back to stock, and start over.(only skimmed your post, i'm mobile, so sorry if i say something you already did.)
get into bootloader, get rid of hspl if it s there,(run hspl2 and choose 1.66.0000) then back into bootloader(you should soon get used to holding vol down as each stage completes to reenter bootloader) then try flash your CORRECT stock rom via usb. if that fails try it using the sd card method.
Thanks for answering, samsamuel.
I haven't looked into the Android section for threads with the same problem i got, maybe i should have started that way
Each time I enter the bootloader, i'm doing as you've said (believe me... in these days i've become a "master" on pushing power button with vol. down )
I always wait for the bootloader to finish loading, then i plug the phone to my PC, wait again for "Serial" turns into "USB" and, then, start the flashing process.
I'll try to do what you said with HSPL2, to select 1.66.000. Each time i've tried with different HSPLs, i've selected 1.66.HSPL or 2.08.HSPL... so, i guess i should try with that.
I'll be updating this thread as soon as i got news.
/me edit
I must to say, that Android was running "fine" (some minor problems when trying to wake up the phone, but nothing critical apart from this disaster). By the record, i didn't have installed dual boot... the phone always boots into WinMo
Hi again,
I have tried to update my SPL to 1.66.000 without success, despite what HSPL2 says ("Succesfully done")
Any thought about this? I can't understand why those programs are saying "OK" but are doing nothing
thanks in advance
not seen it first hand but have read several threads where the update seems to work but nothing changes. not really sure as to cause or cure, sorry.
I wonder if is there a way to make HSPL2 / HSPL3 to leave traces or any log of what they are doing... in order to see why my phone is ignoring them
Little bump, looking for more help
Is this the right subforum to post this things?

[Q] Is my phone bricked??

Hey all, I am having trouble booting anything onto my HD2 everytime i boot the phone i get stuck on the (tri colour screen) "Hardspl" i think..
I am able to install original HTC roms and custom roms via USB and Serial but after i install them and it says installation complete when the phone restarts it just gets stuck on the "Hardspl" screen again??
Any help is appreciated thanks
Here are some images to help
http://img29.imageshack.us/g/dsc0007riq.jpg/
(UPDATED)
How do i remove hspl ive tried installing an offical rom from the SD card but i still boot into this screen ????
Try this........
Power off the phone (make sure your battery is over 50%)
Turn on while holding the vol. down button.
You should be at bootloader (three colour screen)
If you have HSPL installed you should see "cotulla" and "HSPL" on the bootloader somewhere.
If youve been flashing official roms though this may have uninstalled HSPL.
I couldnt get the screenshots you linked to...
You can attach image files using the "manage attachments" button down under the text entry area.. (i think)
Id suggest trying to flash a stock/official rom just now until you get up and running.
With the phone at bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen....
Connect via USB and wait for "serial" to change to "USB", this could take a few minutes.......
When you see "usb" flash the ROM from your pc......
You should make sure that you have the correct ROM for your phone, go to the HTC site and pump in your serial number.
If you still have problems after this then post back here with any error messages you might get...
Hope that helps.....
Thanks for the reply, for the link you need to add (http ://) sorry i should have mentioned that
but i just finished doing what you told be and it finished installing. it had the HTC logo on phone with loading bar as on PC screen no errors :S but im still stuck on the tri colour screen
I originally had android booted onto this mobile but the 3G was not working so i tried installing the HTC wm 6.5 rom that I downloaded from the HTC website but it would not get out of the tri colour screen after i installed it.
So i though it may have been the hardspl its self so i updated the SLP from 2.05 to the 3.03 one im currently on but it does the same thing
Hmm ok...
So the flash finished all the wasy to 100% and there were no error messages..
then the phone rebooted and went to bootloader (3 colours)...??
Restarting the phone just keeps returning you to bootloader??
Try turning off then back on while holding down both volume buttons and see what happens.
Which model of HD2 do you have and which ROM did you flash??
Yes thats correct.
When i turn the device on wile holding vol up-down i get a grey screen to
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. press vol up to restore or press any other keys to cancel"
and im not sure what HTC HD2 i have..
Model: T8585 ?
I flashed the latest rom from the HTC website using the S/N
"RUU_Leo_S_HKCSL_WWE_3.14.831.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship"
Okay, get to that screen and press volume up to continue, this will perform a hard reset which is recommended after a flash, your device should then boot up, may take a few minutes as its the first time..........
ok, It finished in like less then 10sec but there was not skips did from 1% - 100% smoothly and says "Restore....Completed Press VolUp to boot"
So i pressed volume up and once again stuck on the tri colour screen
any more suggestions or is my phone dead?
Hmmm
Phones not bricked because 95% of the time if you can get to bootloader the problem can be fixed........
I have the feeling this is something obvious that Im not picking up on.
Chances are someone else will see this and point out the obvious but at the minute I cant think why it might be doing that......
You could try flashing the ROM from SD card.
Rename the file on your PC to "leoimg.nbh" and put it on a 2gb/4gb sd card, turn the phone off, put the card in, turn on and it should flash........
Like I said, i dont think your phone is dead, I think Im missing something obvious....
its weird because i can install roms, hardspl's and all that stuff it knows the phone is there and installs them but for some reason it never gets passes the hardspl stage.. on each boot.
it accually boots into the tri colour screen in a split second of turning the phone on
Its a longshot but is there any possibility that your volume down button is stuck in the pressed position.........
yeah i have installed off the SD card already. that took awhile but it says everything is ok and installsion has completed.
same problem though once i restart tri-coloured screen pops up.
Im afraid Im not sure about this one...........
I'll keep thinking and let you know if anything occurs to me.....
Im sure someone else will chip in at some point and point out the issue though.
alright no worries thanks for the help and time hopefully someone knows what the problem is.
Maybe if i uninstall the Hardspl? might totally wreck it and 100% brick my phone if it fails but I think its the only option ill have left soon
uninstalling hspl shouldnt cause any harm........
I didnt realise you had HSPL installed, I take it you instaled that after flashing the stock rom??
If you have HSPL installed......
Try to install a custom rom, ie an energy rom, just as an experiment........
dunno if youve seen the images yet conan, but unless its changed since, the OP has 3.03.0000
also, if he has magldr installed ( i didnt see it mentioned, but..) when you hard reset it takes just a few seconds, because it is only hard resetting magldr (at least thats my understanding, and would offer a reason why hard reset is so quick)
I suspect incorrect 3,14 flash, which didnt complete so its returning to bootloader,
so, OP, bootloader - hspl4 - 3.03.hspl - flash your 3.13 rom again, over usb.
ok thanks ill try that right now, also yes magldr was installed for android but i thought I got rid of it once i rebooted the offical HTC rom.
If this works im donating $20 to you right away no joke .. ive been trying to fix for 13hours straight

sd card flash, right?
Step 1 of the flash is the spl gets overwritten by the one in the leoing.nbh rom (3.03.0000 in this case) and then the phone reboots, and starts to flash , , splashscreen (where magldr is), radio, rom.
BUT, the phone wont allow the flash to start because hspl is now gone, so it fails CID checks and stops, so doesn't remove magldr, radio, rom, nothing, it just stops. Further attempts at flashing fail because you teh user haven't notived the spl change, you assume the whole flash failed, and that hspl is still there.
You shouldnt be able to get that far normaly, it would fail before it even starts, on a stock spl, except that hspl was there, so the flash was allowed to begin.
Ok, so its on SPL-3.03.HSPL now then I installed the latest HTC offical rom with USB but still no go
also if it is resetting magldr how come it doesent load up like it used to after a reset
