How can I remove all the phone functions? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to turn my x10 into a wifi mp3 player. There is no sim card inserted. I don't want bars to show. Basically how an ipod would be to an iphone.

You can do this by some cosmetic and some functional changes.
For example:
You can edit the framework-res.apk and replace all the images related to radio signal bars and G/3G/H symbol with a transparent 48x48 icons.
That way you won't see anything related to network.
Then, you can turn airplane mode off, that should do it.
Also, freezing the Phone.apk with Titanium backup should block everything making X10 a phone.

That's alot of work... Is there a more simple way?

Seriously...?
If you want the icons removed you need to edit the framework,
since it was designed to display those icons, because this is a PHONE.
And by freezing the phone process you ensure that the phone will no longer function as one.
If it's too much trouble, just turn on the airplane mode already and start playing music!
Jeez!

How would I edit the frame work?

Why did you buy a phone?????? had buy a ipod instead!!! no pain at all!!!

The simplest way is actually to turn om plane mode and ignore the icons..

Not since 2.1, but there's also a free app in the Market called "Airplane WiFi" that will make it stick.

Google Talk

Ive tried researching this but I have came up empty handed. It appears once my screen is off google talk is logged out. How do I keep google talk always logged in?

I really hope this isnt a wide spread thing. I use Google talk heavily. I cant afford for it to disconnect upon my screen timing out. I havent used it since I activated my phone to test though.
Maybe check under the power saver option in settings. There is an option to turn off background data when the screen turns off. Maybe that's it?

I will try that setting out and report back

Just uncheck auto away status and it will stop logging out.

Is anyone else having an issue where google talk won't load for them? I touch the icon and it looks like it loads for a second then flashes back to the app drawer. I tried clearing the application data, didn't help, and of course I can't uninstall/reinstall

Yup, I have to restart the phone to get it working. I also notice that Restart does NOT restart the phone for me. It powers it down.

A ROM I was using had it locked on with no way to disable it. I suppose I could just wait for an update.

Using Titanium Backup, remove the IMS Service. That should kill any WiFi calling remaining in your system. Not too sure about the stability you'll get afterwards, as I haven't tested it. Be the first one to try!

Turn on WiFi calling, and if you go in app settings and force stop IMS service, Wi-Fi calling... disappears (until the next reboot I assume)

[Q] I need a way to keep the screen on when the phone is on

Is there a ROM or a mod that will keep the screen on when dialing or receiving a call? I'm disabled, and it's much easier for me to use the speakerphone. Unfortunately, I can't turn the speakerphone on before the call, and during the call the screen goes blank. Usually I can turn it back on, but then I have to switch from home to the phone screen and hit the speakerphone button. The other party will have to wait several seconds while I do this.
Is there any way around this? I've tried four or five ROMs, and they all turn the screen off. Is there something simple I'm missing? Is there a ROM out there that will do what I want? How about a module?
Thanks!

Anyone use VuTalk?

I bought g2 the next day it came out, and did not know this vutalk feature existed until yesterday while playing around with both of my and my girlfriend's g2.
Now we doodle around with this thing whenever we get a chance and me like it ;p
But the sad thing is i dont have any other people on my contact list that i can vutalk with except my girlfriend...
Anyone use this at all?

It gives you the ability to draw stuff you can share with the person you're talking to. I've personally disabled it, as it uses some RAM

To disable it (and you can do this without root) go into settings - general - apps - all and scroll all the way down to the bottom. You will find vutalk there. Press on it and disable it. And yes it will remain disabled even after reboot.

Viber needs only a few KB/s (or MBs for calls) . Other apps need more ( i don't use and don't know about what's up)
It doesn't need an account. (for hangouts you need to have your friends gmail / fb needs ...fb accounts )
And you can do some funny staff. Draw/emoticons/sound clip
