Car dock now available on Sprint.com! - HTC EVO 3D

check it out here!

Thanks.
sent from my 3D

Ordered... thanks!!! It says it has its own charging port, too. By the looks of it it should be pretty nice.

Just picked mine up from the Sprint store. It's fantastic. It feels durable, has a removable slot sizing piece so it can accommodate phones with cases, and it comes with a disc for dash mounting if you don't want to window mount it. I love it!

Is this the official one made by HTC? Like the official one for the EVO 4G?

Yeah it is. I saw it today when I picked my phone.
It's really nice. I held off for now though. I've already bought like three cases and want to get a nice sd card...it adds up

Think an Otterbox Commuter would fit in there once the insert is removed... and still charge the phone?

Yes I will fit and charge the phone too

no Otter box will fit in this car dock, the body glove case is too big it barely goes in at all and it's thinner than the Otterbox defender and commuter by a long shot.
The ones sprint are selling doesn't have the adjustment knob to adjust the mount up and down, it only has the tilt ball adjustment. On Igrips web site theirs shows an adjustment knob at the top of the arm to tilt it up and down and sprints have identical clips on both sides with no knob, making it a bit difficult to get it exactly where you want it

No it's made by iGrip, not HTC. Just picked it up in the store. I'ts not like the HTC Evo 4G dock at all. This still seems nice though and about $20 cheaper if I remember correctly.
From the bottom of the box
Sunction mount and vehicle disc made in Germany
Vehicle Dock made in china.
Customer Support: iGRIP Global LLC [email protected]
http://www.igrip.us/ Here it is on their page. The mount itself is seperate from the part that holds the phone so in theory for your next phone you could just buy the phone holder and pay less.
Edit: it does put it into car mode though.

The Commuter kinda fits.. if you press down it will charge, but it won't stay that way, you also need to remove the soft USB cover (fine by me)..
It's so close to fitting perfectly I think I'm just gonna dremel it a bit at work on Monday..

Car Cradle

Someone is finally making a car cradle for the Touch Pro 2 that Verizon and Sprint (Not T-Mobile) should be able to use and its cheap. I emailed the U.S. seller and he said it fits though it is really for the GSM Euro versions. No surprise though as it is passive only. Heres a link to their website: http://www.buygpsnow.com/HAiCOM_Car_Mount_HTC_Touch_Pro2.aspx
Anything is better than a squeeze cradle
I have one ordered so will update a review but at $12.95 and $2.50 shipping kinda hard to go wrong even if it only lasts until Proclip gets off their duffs.
I found a coupon code for free shipping. It is hit or miss apparently but worth a try. Code is 430.
Edit: Code did not work

nice find. please let us know how it works. i have a vzw tp2 as well and have been searching for a car holder. right now it sets on my passanger seat...
Just a quick question, why do you think squeeze cradles suck?
I've not had one but was considering a universal mount from Arkon, which is a squeeze cradle.

Its been years since I've seen a phone thick enough that the jaws need to be anywhere near as deep as the vast majority of the squeeze cradles on the market yet they still make them that deep, at least the ones that are big enough to hold a PDA. This would not be much of a problem except they use soft foam in the jaws that is almost invariably also very thick. When you squeeze it tight enough to keep the phone from falling out, it has a tendency to roll the foam right down over the screen making it difficult to use things like the slide tray in Touchflo 3D. It is also difficult to remove the phone as after a short while the teeth of the jaw start wearing down and it sticks closed making the button hard to push. And thats with a good cradle like and Arkon, which is what I have been using. Lesser quality cradles are even worse. There are better squeeze cradles that address these issues but they are all for Iphones. Saw a nice one the other day with nice thin jaws and rubber grips that fit the phone perfectly with a friction lock instead of teeth and a cam but it had and Ipod cable and FM transmitter built in making it very expensive at like $69. Looked real nice too with a nice shiny finish like the phone has but at that price, wasn't going to buy something that I had to cut up to use. To bad the company did not make one with a USB cable instead. Unfortunately most of the good stuff is made by companies that drank large quantities of the Steve Jobs kool-aid years ago.

Thanks for the response, very good reasons not to go with a giant squeeze cradle.
I've been looking at this mount http://www.arkon.com/phonemount.php
Curious if anyone else has used it with the TP2.
My phone works splendidly with a $15 squeeze cradle from Walmart. It's not too thick, secure, and does not obscure the screen.
I have an old Treo 650 Pro-clip mount that works perfectly with the TP2. The phone slides in securely and comes out easily. Obviously no active connection but it works great. I put double sided tape in the back of the of the mount and it holds my Fuze perfectly as well.

Just came in the mail on Saturday. The cheap shipping took one week to the day. Quality of the cradle is very good. The clip at the top is actually spring loaded, not just plastic that bends back, like the Seidio holsters. It is removable if you won't need to use the cradle in landscape to make it easier to take in and out. The cut out at the bottom is definitely for the CDMA phones. It should work with the European versions also. THIS CRADLE WILL NOT WORK ON THE T-MOBILE VERSION AT ALL. It is a perfect fit for my Verizon phone. This is not a cradle you want if you need to use the keyboard while it is in. For me that is not and issue and it makes me uncomfortable having plastic wedged between my keyboard and screen anyways. Seems like it would be hard on the slider. The windshield mount is very nice. It has push button friction locks instead of screws for the joints and the rotation is spring loaded so its easy to rotate when needed one handed. The suction cup is very large and has a good positive locking mechanism. It is larger than the average suction cup so if you need a dash disk like I do, you will need the largest one you can find. Unfortunately it does not come with one. Since they are selling this so inexpensively, that probably a place they needed to cut their losses. The quality of the cradle is much higher than the price. The cradle does not use a standard mechanism to join it to the mount so you will either have to use the one it came with or go to the website and see if they have another kind of mounting solution. This is really the only limitation I can find. You will not be able to use it with your Proclip solution if you have one. Any more questions you have, just leave them in this forum.

I had one for my Touch Pro and it was nice enough but it kind of made the gap between the keyboard and phone wider over time. If you absolutely have to have the keyboard open while driving its probably the best on on the market, though to me that keyboard open is just and invitation to disaster. Its hard enough to keep hands off the phone while closed They are not inexpensive by any means. Depending on how you need to configure it you can easily spend well over a $100 bucks. The powered cradle alone without a car specific mount is $60 which is competitive with other powered solutions, but the non powered ones at $40 bucks seem more than a little like highway robbery to me especially since you will still spend $30+ on the mounting solution for the cradle. Still, if you need that keyboard open its the only decent solution at this time. They have no powered option for Verizon yet, but the non powered one they have listed for the AT&T Tilt 2 will work on Verizon and Sprint. The phones are exactly the same shape as the AT&T phone except for the ports on the bottom. If you want a fitted cradle but don't need the keyboard to open while mounted, this is the posted cradle only real solution I've found, but its inexpensive and good quality.
Now if you want the best of both worlds, I was wrong about the Proclip mounts not working with the cradle. They make absolutely the best mounting solution hands down since there is no damage to the vehicle. They have cradle adapters on the site that will make it work and the price is not to bad.
http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionp...egoryid=&p_year=&p_countryid=0&p_leftorright=
The suction cup on the cradle is 3.25 inches and this adapter is 3.5 inches so it should work.
I'm not a fan of clamp holders or suction cups, had enough of unintentional flying objects. I usually make my own holders that slip into a vent clip from theclip.com
http://theclip.com/store/Ultra-Clip-with-Vent-Mount-p-16176.html
This time I found a perfect custom made touchpro2 holder for $1.35! It clips right into the vent clip with just a little grinding on the vent clip. It holds the phone solidly and perfectly positioned for easy phone use and GPS mapping.

Nice find on the holster. Never had a problem myself with a good suction cup holder and nothing bounces like a Freightliner. I find that taping a small vanity mirror to the dash works much better than those little round plastic disks since they where designed to stick to glass. If you have two phones and two holders like I do, the small rectangular one they sell in the automotive department at Walmart will hold both and its only 2 bucks and looks nice. I am not a fan of any kind of vent clip. The two worst enemies of electronics are heat and cold and something as heavy as a PDA is going to break the vent eventually. What I have done in the past is use something like this: http://theclip.com/store/The-Clip-Mount-p-16156.html with a holster or case.
I'm going to get the holster. Been looking for one that faces out like that.
I already have a clip in the car so won't need to take my mount with me when I get off the road.

Found this car mount for the G1. As opposed to the universal ones which are significantly bulkier and honestly dont look that good. This one is sleek and will let you open the G1 to keyboard mode without undocking he phone.
I've ordered it. I'll let you know in a few weeks
Any updated?

Both of those are a custom fit for the G1, but notice the design of them. You can't use the car charger while the phone is in the mount. The 'clip' is covering the charger port.
This one is designed to allow you to charge the G1 while it is in the mount:

I don't own one 'yet' because the site says it will be available around 12/30. Looking at the pic, it doesn't seem to interfere with the operation of the phone... meaning you can still slide it open as well as charge it.
I've decided to make a 'temporary' dock for my G1 until the one above is available. I used the back portion of a clear cover that I had laying around. I figured I would put it to some use since I had it!
Here are a few pics:
I got this one to use in my car and love it! Charger fits in and it can be rotated in any direction. Plus you can move it from car to car without messy window rings. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001UGMTKC/ref=oss_T15_product

That was a great idea. I got the cheap one off ebay and the cover does block the charge port. I am going to do a little dremel tooling on it to see if I can make it better. If not I will buy a couple of the cheap cases off ebay and try your mod.
The Ebay one also completely blocks the speaker. I will cut a hole for that too.

You can never go wrong with a dremel tool!! I didn't know that those ebay holders cover up the speaker too. It kinda makes the phone useless while its in there. I got the idea for the one I made off the proclip website. Rather than spending $30 bucks for theirs, I just made my own! I popped the trim off from around the heater/radio and used 3M double sided tape to secure the metal bracket that I bent to shape. Then used another piece of 3M to secure the back portion of the clear cover to the bracket. Of course, I put the 'Dual' sticker on there just for kicks!!!
I got myself a ProClip G1 mount.
http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-de...h-cable-with-3-in-1-adapter-849868-17354.aspx
It is a little pricey but the build quality is great and has a swivel mount. And yes you can open the screen and access the keyboard while mounted. Only downside (besides the price) is that you have to remove the rubber dust cover from the mini-USB charging port on the G1/Dream. I was kind of ticked off when I found this out after ordering it but I have been without it for quite a while now and haven't had any problems. I usually carry this G1 in my pocket and sometimes on my holster (when my work G1 isn't on me).

So I didn't see anyone comment on this yet. But I went ahead and bought this due to the decent price and what appeared to be the ability to open it while mounted.
So the answer is definitely "yes" to everything I wanted from it.
Yes, it does allow you to open the screen while mounted.
Yes, the clip does hold the phone very well and it is pretty easy to put and remove the phone with one hand.
Yes, you can plug in a charger while mounted and you don't have to remove the little charger door to use it.
Yes, there is a hole in the back so the speaker/camera is exposed so I guess you could record video, or take pictures while driving if that is something you wanted to do. Also, the microphone on the bottom is not blocked in case you want to just use speakerphone while mounted.
Yes, it feels very solid and well made. It says it "Made in Germany" on all of the parts which makes me feel good. "The German's make good stuff!"
Yes, The body clip itself does come off the arm so you could in theory use this for a different phone assuming you can get just the body clip online.
No, you cannot use this with anything other then a regular sized battery/door. (hopefully this was obvious)
Overall, for $20-$25 (depending on shipping), this is an awesome mount for your G1. I haven't actually tried mounting it on my window yet but the big suction cup (~3 inches wide) with the pull lever thing look like they will work great.
Boogy

I order this one and finally got it.
It doesn't seem to fit in the way the picture is. The picture shows the "big" tab at the bottom. The problem with this is that it covers the hole for the charger. Also for me it doesn't quite fit so the top tab doesn't clip on to anything and doesn't hold the phone.
If I put it in upside down then the small tab doesn't cover the hole for the charger and it seems to fit nice an snug. But when it is in upside down you can no longer slide it open as the bigger tab is clipped onto the front. That is no big deal for me any ways as I don't plan on opening it while it is in the holder in the car.
the perfect mount/ who needs a navigation system
I also went to g1depo.com and got the windshield mount, it arrived four days early and yes to all the major questions. Opening capability, charger connection, speakerphone/camera hole, and it is also sturdy and well made "German" to be exact. and only 25.00 with shipping. Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats nice and everything, wonderful price...but uuhh...its intended purpose are for navigation devices, although it may have no problem holding, I don't think it would allow all of the g1 usage in dock such as rotating landscape/portrait, opening/closing keyboard, charging with dual 3.5 headset jack/usb extention.
Are there any good carmounts that fit a g1 with the extended battery back cover?

Otterbox Defender+ Car Dock?

Is there a car dock that fits the otterbox defender? I got the iGRIP a week prior, and of course it doesn't fit. Only with tpu cases. So does anybody know of a car dock that will fit it? Yes I could probably hack the **** out if the igrip, but thats not what I'm looking for.

Yes, I have a universal dock that I used with my Evo 4G with or without my Ballistic HC case, and now my Evo 3D with or without my Defender case. I'll try to find it and post a link. It attatches in to a power outlet(charging port) and also gives you a power outlet built in to it so you dont lose an outlet. Depends on your car though as to whether this would work for you or not...

This is the exact one that I have. Mine has padding on the bottom, sides, and on the back. I dont see this one showing any padding on the back, but I imagine that its there. I've had it for a year and have no complaints. The only modification I did was took a black zip-tie and sercured the power port on the dock. You actually dont even notice it, unless you are really looking for it, but it does blend in really well, and you can secure it to face which ever direction works best for you.

Oh, and this is cheaper than what I paid, I spent over 20 for mine, would do it again too. This mount works perfectly in my car, just the right location

I've seen this guys stuff before. I dont know how(guess he works some where that gives him access to making plastic molds), but he makes his own stuff. It would be nice if he showed pics of the phone/case in the mount...
Thanks guys really appreciate it.

I saw a youtube video of his for his iphone 4 dock and it really snapped into placed well and seemed to hold the phone very snugly.

I would also love to hear about your experience with this. I am more than likely getting the Defender for my 3VO, but really want a car mount that'll handle it.
Really wish I could find something like the Defender, but instead of a holster it had a belt clip with an attachable knob for the case to attach a belt clip, like http://www.amazon.com/Body-Glove-Elements-Snap-Sprint/dp/B002XIWKQ4 for the CDMA Hero.
It's just going to be really uncomfortable to still be wearing the entire holster on my belt while the phone is in the dock in my car. Gonna be a slight hassle also if I had to take the holster off every time I got into and out of the car.
I may be nitpicking, but I suppose everyone has their quirks.

Have you carried a phone in a holster before? Maybe is just me, but i never even notice the holster, assuming it's in the right spot. I carry my phone in a Defender, holstered, Mon-Fri and in pocket on weekends.

Believe it or not my Garmin 255W GPS window car mount fits the tabs on the sides of my defender. Its not super tight but stayed the entire 3hr trip to Cleveland I made this past weekend road bumps and all.

I've used these things on my Evo 4g and the work great. I just got one for my 3d with the defender case and my only problem is it's a little snug with the usb cable plugged in. I basically have to remove the cable before I remove it from the holder.
goto ebay and search slipgrip 3d otterbox defender and you'll get all the options
now all I have to do is find a new holster for the defender because I broke off the belt loop

Car Dock/Holder?

Anyone know of a car dock or holder for another phone that may work with LTEvo?

I just received that dock yesterday. First impressions are very good. One small exception.
I use the Platinum case that I got at Best Buy, which is essentially the same as the Seidio case.
The phone docks fine, but the case causes the phone to "tilt" a bit to the left. Even with the sleeve out of the dock, it still tilts a bit and does not seat all the way.
But it is barely noticeable and the dock works great.
If you get this dock, be advised that it does not come with a microUSB cable for connecting the dock to your 12v supply in your vehicle. But if your former phone was an EVO 4G like me, you probably have many of those cables laying around any way.
If you do not use a case, however, with the sleeve in the phone fits like a glove.
If you have seen or used the Seidio dock for the OG, like I did, the first thing I can say about this new dock is even though the EVO LTE is larger than the OG, the dock is less intrusive on the windshield.
Thanks, but i mainly just need something to hold my phone. I don't use the NAV on my phone anymore, so i just need something so my phone isn't sitting in my cupholder.
looks sexy but...
I just got my Diztronic case which is absolutely the perfect case and it will not fit in the dock. Not quite sure what to do... I'm leaning towards returning the dock.
EDIT:
after taking the insert out and using the pads in the box it works great!

It does tilt a bit, but that's what those two tiny foam pads that came with it are for. I put one on the right bottom side and the other on the middle nearer to the backside of the phone. It's almost perfectly balanced now.

I have the same case and it fits fine in the car dock. Did you remove the extra insert? There's an insert (adapter) that is in there for a naked LTE. It just pops right out and your Diztronic covered LTE will fit right in there. Make sure to use the two foam pieces on the right hand side so your phone doesn't tilt.

This is what I used with my Photon and it works perfectly with the evo lte. Just turn it sideways and turn on car mode. It holds TIGHT to the windshield and wont come off.. even in Texas heat. For extra fun take a nfc tag and have it auto launch car dock when near

Evo lte car mount?

I'm in the market for a car mount for my evo, just wondering if there's any mounts available that will hold it with a case on?

I have the one from sprint and it works fine with my case. Just leave out the spacer from the dock. I think it was $35 or so in store.

second this, as long as its not a bulky otterbox. TPU silicone and hard cases should work fine. They also supply little pieces of foam so if your phone is at an angle, you can straighten it out. You'll see what i mean if you get one.
cheers
For a cheaper dock the quality is surprisingly good, got mine with the media link back when they had the 2 for 20% off, all in all only paid about a hundred bucks, dock was practically free lol

Amazon has a good one called iOttie
http://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Windshield-INCREDIBLE-BlackBerry-Revolution/dp/B00687N0GK
holds any phone, so it came in handy for me. also they have excellent customer support. mine broke when my daughter knocked it off the counter with my phone in it and they sent me a replacement for free
I think the one that Sprint sells is the closest you'll get to OEM from HTC. Unfortunately, I've ONLY been able to find it in stores and on Sprint's website. Finding it on any other website or eBay is pretty much impossible to find a better price. I like keeping everything OEM, so I'll probably get it when I'm really going to need it.
the one sold by sprint is made from a company called ibolt. They make a generic car dock for the oneX that fits the LTE and the oneX.
http://www.amazon.com/iBolt-Vehicle...?ie=UTF8&qid=1347487055&sr=8-3&keywords=ibolt
that is the one that i'm using right now. works great and its the same price at sprint. i just bought it off of amazon because i had a $50 Amazon gift card so i basically got it for free.

This ARkon mount its the note, it'll fit the Evo with a Ballistic case:
http://www.arkon.com/slimgrip/slimgrip-dashboard-mount-sm578.html
They have window suction and other ones of you don't want the dash version. Best of all, they're mostly under $20.
I ordered an iBolt from Amazon and you can (optional) use it with or without case. All you have to do is remove a piece of plastic from the mount and it fits with case. Its a very sturdy and flexible mount and I recommended it. I think I paid around $25-30. There are cheaper ones out there but you get what you paid for...

I took a trip to the local Sprint store this morning and picked up their car dock and I must say, Im damn impressed at the quality! kind of whack that it doesnt include a charge cable but it is a nice piece for sure. I hightly recommend it :good:
I just got the iBolt version from thecellguru.com & love it so far. $27 after shipping (no tax for those in states that care). Cheapest I was able to find anywhere online (even eBay). They only have it under the OneX compatibility section (probably because that's what it says on the box), but I can attest that it works fine with the EvoLTE. Oh, and no I do not work for them...just dropping a tip to save everyone some $ on a decent accessory.

I'm going to look into the ibolt, I like the design. Does anyone have pictures of their evo in it that they could share?

I have a universal mount from wally world, it works perfectly it doesn't have a charger but I use my rocketfish charger that was for my idiot phone 4 I can even use the mount with my defender so its a good buy in.my eyes

I've been looking at the ibolt. Has anyone used it with an otterbox commuter case? The reviews and description say it can be used with a case, but otterbox has a flap covering the usb port so I don't know how it would work.
I wish they would make one like I had for the og evo. With the cone shaped base and the thin chrome post with ball on each end, and thin minimal plastic clip holding the phone. All so neat and trim. I hate the big boat shape tray on the sprint/ibolt one, especially since my phone has no case, that boat shape is way bigger than the phone and looks ugly. Also the big fat hold-down clip on the top. Ugh.. it all blocks so much more window view than necessary. And of course the blue charging light, yet another unnecessary light on my dash at night.
But it holds the phone securely, charges, and provides a good landscape gps and media player.
I'll have to dig up a pic of my old og evo setup to show what I mean. I think the dock was actually for the hero but it worked on the og evo with a tiny hack just trimming away a small bit of plastic. Looked a hundred times better than the sprint/ibolt. This was definitely one downgrade from upgrading from og evo to evo lte.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Oh yeah plus you could turn it portrait or landscape any time and it looked good both ways.
I wish they would make THIS for the evo lte.

They do. It's from iBolt. It's available on Sprints site. Its 35 bucks, even on eBay ... But sure is nice
