Looking for folks in my area - HTC EVO 3D

Hey everyone, My names Steve. I live in Port St. Lucie Florida and just figured I'd check to see if I could find anyone in my area, or relatively close. I get my 3D today, yaaayyyy!
I would really like to find a Dev in my area that could help teach me about making my own themes and stuff. My first smartphone was the Evo and I didn't get it until mid Sept. Ever since, I've been consumed. With the 3D, I would love to start learning a lot more.
Well, I hope to have some good response from this. Thanks everyone.
P.S. If there are any Devs out there who aren't in my area but wouldn't mind helping me out, that would be great to.

To all the devs here on XDA

I want to publicly thank all of you here on XDA (and some I know are on sdx as well) for your contribution to the rest of us users who lack the talent and downright genius to do what you do. Although some of us are sharp, and know a little bit, you are the 1% of us who have the ability take that idea and design and morph it into a theme or self operating system.
Thank you again. And thank you for being teachers as well! I have learned more in the past 6 months about computers and electronics and Linux than I have in my life being around them.

+one million. the people here are so helpful. i try to be as helpful as i can, but nobody can compare to the people who spend hours on end on roms and mods.
Yes thanks to all the devs and themers!
Cant belive how much dev support we have.
I knew I picked the right phone.
EVO 3D!!
It's good to see threads like this in the morning instead of *****ing, complaining, or topics not related to the Evo 3D.
Thanks man. I take that to the heart...

That, sir, is a great post, and duly needed around here.... What hit home for me as well, was this..

Agreed×10.
I'm pretty much in awe over how much you can learn here in such a short period of time. The raw knowledge that is available here collectively is absolutely amazing.

Thanks cobra. I do it for the love of the game!(that's why I got rid of my donate button) When toast was a little whipper snapper and I was teaching him about thingamabobs, I remember him saying "Chef, thanks! I'm going to make a dope ass build of cm7 for the evo 3d". Off to the dev section toast! And ignore the ahole trolls!
I also want to thank the devs (whether or not most of them were under my wing at one point or another). You ALL make my phone a ton of fun. I've learned a ton of cool stuff from the devs and users here at xda.

I rarely post but I just wanted to agree with the subject of this thread and the posts in it so far. I've learned so much about Android, adb, etc. since I got my first Evo a little over a year ago. Being able to mod and flash our phones is something I'm sure a lot of us, I know I do, take for granted at times, but is something that wouldn't be available to most without the great Devs here. So I just wanted to say Thanks for making my phones better each and every day.

Well said. And ditto with learning so much since my og Evo. The nook color taught me a few tricks also.
Rootyourdroid.net. My nephews blog.
Your post is excellent. Behind the scenes of any mod, rom and theme is began with a idea to make it different and or better. And the developers are volunteers that help all of us out. They contribute knowledge that when applied let's us get s-off, root, better roms, better performing devices. Countless of hours go to any one single item they put out..and in some instances...many man years, all mostly for free. Time spent away from friends, family job, and other obligation in lives. Some are good, some are bad but all deserve a big THANK YOU.
Good post. It brightens up the forums a little bit.
good post man.. it is important that we continue to show love to the community, this place has turned into such crapfest recently.. and its good to see people posting positive material; devs, chefs and themers need to know that we appreciate their work so that they will continue to press on.. its hard to find the passion to make something when everywhere you turn is some douchebag talking crap about what he doesnt even know..
and many thanks to all of the people who have helped me in my time here, to help me accomplish the things that i can do today.. i wouldnt have thought i would be able to do half of the things that i can do now.. back in my heroC days learning about kernels from decad3nce and s0be, rom building from aosp, and themeing from thoughtlesskyle.. and many many others.. thanks a ton, and heres to a better community.. *cheers*

Merry Christmas fellow android lovers

I know its not a question, but would like to just say thanks to everyone in this misfit forum for making our phone a better device. Just shows what can happen when people work together. I know I've learned alot about android in the last 10 months & thank you guys for all your help along the way. Let's hope the New Year brings us new possibilities for this misfit of a phone....THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE..MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!
This happens to be my very first post on XDA. I'm one of those silent followers, reading, re-reading, scratching my head, pulling my hair, but smiling in the end bc of you Devs. I went back to stock last night to flash 2.3.5 and it kept saying error "build.prop & verification blah blah". I'm freaking out. Since I'm on vacation, I tether my phone for internet (throttled, of course, bc I've been downloading as much as a middle school boy with the parents out). I spend forever loading pages, too stubborn to ask a question and too afraid of the "dude, have you ever heard of the search feature?" Yes, mister, I have read about that feature. But I deleted it and need you to send me a link So, it's Christmas Eve and I'm sitting in a Chinese restaurant enveloped in a sea of S. Florida Jews that my sister loves to talk with every year. We're the only Catholics in the room, but she feels right at home. Idk. It may have been Moses working, but I realized I was on 2.3.3. Huzzah! As soon as we got back I immediately satiated my flash fix. Thanks Ace for the nandroid. X-mas came early. Thanks everyone for your help. I've learned so much for my first smart phone bc of XDA and y'all. I really fear ppl are going to be moving on soon. I fear that a lot. I don't know how ppl can go through phones like it's an accessory. I got my phone on August 6th and am sticking with this to at least my 2 year update. Don't worry. I foresee our unlock is near.
Sorry for the long post, if you made it this far. My next ones won't be this bad.
Big thanks to DEVS and...Ashlepedia. I categorize you, Ash, with the Devs bc of the amount of work you put in to this forum. I rooted around the same time you did and it's been great watching how much you've learned. I'll get whatever phone you get next.
Happy holidays, everyone from Old Testament to New to none.

I decided to buy a MoPho cause of this nice community

Hello guys,
I've been following xda photon forums from the start. I must say that i like what you guys do here and your communication, being helpful and nice to each other. Devs are friendly, owners are like buddies. Honestly, MoPho forums draw a picture in my mind for what it should have been like in all other motorola forums @xda. I own razr xt910 and atrix now. Just decided to trade my atrix for the photon. Atrix is a great device but it doesn't excite me anymore. It's not that i need a photon but cant resist myself of getting one especially after the free msl code guide.
Wish me luck for the trade since i'm looking after a straight trade.
Good luck with that.
I think the fact that the Photon is not as popular as the EVO3D, SGSII, etc. is an advantage when it comes to this forum and the type of peeps participating. I remember how bad some of the other phone forums got after growing with users. Everybody started complaining, fighting, and most the devs, sorry to say, were just plain jerks. In there defense though they were getting stupid questions asked time after time after time from lazy, immature users who didn't want to read first.
The other great thing is that this phone is better stock than most other phones are so not as many peeps having to flash a new rom every hour to get things to work. The roms we do have in this forum are quality and backed by devs willing to provide any support needed.
After being on the EVO 4G forums, and Droid X Forums, boy, I hated the rude people. But after all, we have only had one major fight break out here, and I had to call in the mods to clean some trashy mouths up. But, only one. I am friends with every user, (I think that the one who got into a verbal fight with me left the forums, so now I can honestly say,) every user on the MoPho forums. We are the nicest people just trying to help one another in anyway we can. (Please join the XDA Fan Group by clicking below on my Signature.)
guess most of those "rude people" must be some kids who got too excited on a new phone. Photon is for men, lol... I found popular forums (xda, ppcgeecks, androidforums...) are always helpful.

I think you can block curse words bubb the rest of us I think are over 16/18. We can handle the words of the curse
adding stars to curse words isn't going to change anything we all know what it is....as long as someone isn't calling another user a ****ing asshat I think we are good
Welcome! We are a small family here and get along well (I think so anyway!) Get Deedscreen to make you a signature like he did mine, ask questions, provide answers if you know them, tell a joke now and then!!!
If you look at my signature, SPB 3D Shell is giving me a headache at the moment, but I love my phone. Get Otterbox Defender over GhostArmor to protect that baby!
Coming from the EVO 4G since it's launch, I've definitely seen my share of arguments and rudeness on both XDA and the Androidforums website.
The community for the Photon seems smaller but not less served. We already have a nearly stable CM7, a Miui port, and our CM9 is well on the way to being on par with the EVO 4G's.
The only thing we're missing is some themed roms, but it is of little consequence, specially if you use CM7 and utilize the theme manager.
I've come from the Samsung Galaxy S, it was good and lots of development but the crappy GPS annoyed me, couldn't get a fix unless you're under a clear sky.
Loving the Photon, gives me a fix down to 6m indoors on a rainy day in just a few seconds! Also the notification LED is really nice.
Its funny how no one had this phone but when a little development comes around all these new people pop up randomly lol. Good luck with your trade, and if its successful hope you enjoy the best device on sprint's network!

I bought the Photon on launch day. But I came here hoping to find development works. I don't have those skills (or that time) but I am grateful to those of you who do.
Meanwhile, I like the phone, and I like the community. I assumed there were similar communities around most of the phones, though.
It's a very good phone. Just watch out for the texting issues.

Hello guys,
Will finish the trade on monday. For starters i know a lot about the photon, there is no texting issue or whatsoever. It is one of rare stable stable out of the box android phones in history.

Good to see familiar faces again!

FINALLY!! Many months after it's release I finally got the LTE, upgrading from the OG EVO. God I miss seeing you guys It was getting pretty lonely and ghostly in the EVO forum but to be expected. I love what this phone does over the OG in so many ways it's astounding I didn't just buy outright but it's pretty steep. Anyway, good to see you guys again.

Possible job at Sprint!

So I was wondering what you guys thought? I have wanted to work there for a while. I've been known as the go to phone guy in my circles and really like helping people and showing them all the amazing things that can be done with these phones. I have a job interview in the next week or two coming up and have really wanted this. Always been great with electronics, computers, and phones. Been hacking phones since the back in the day razor. There are things I want to accomplish within Sprint. Better support for our community, better tech support, better service overall. I have come from working hard labor construction jobs that I really don't belong in and have wanted a change for a long time. I moved from south Jersey to Knoxville Tennessee to get a fresh start and back on my feet, and away from all of the negatives that have held me back. I feel I am finally ready for this. So what do u guys think?

Good luck to you and hope that you get the job.
Your resume was good enough to get you the interview so now you have to sale yourself and tell Sprint why they should hire you. After reading what you just wrote, I definitely think you should use that as your 'so tell me a little bit about yourself' speech, also called elevator talk. Keep it under 2 to 3 minutes and the rest of the interview should be some basic tech questions, which I'm pretty sure you're nail, just don't BS any questions you don't know the answer to. You got this, I think you'll kick that interview in the nuts! Good luck and let us know what happens.

Thanks, my friend that is really professional and business oriented and has been helping me with resume, and interview q&a getting me ready. I want too be one of the ones that helps us if our phone is rooted or we are one of the more advanced customers. You should be fine and you should get the job but things you need to remember:
If you're selling phones, you won't be selling phones to people like us. You'll be selling phones to extra regular people. So all of your knowledge on here is pretty much irrelevant. If someone wants to do something and you yourself know that they could easily do it rooted, if you tell them that, you may be messing them up. And most people don't want to have to do all of this extra work for simple features. So telling them they'd have to root or something like that will actually steer them away from android and if Sprint wants you to push Android, you're hurting yourself and your sales.
Also, how you go about fixing things will be pretty irrelevant. You can't root the devices and unroot so at the end of the day if something goes down you're still gonna have to go through those set up procedures they lay out...
So having all of this knowledge is great but you may end up hating it all in the end because you can't go in there and do what you want. You can't really say what you want because you'll be around a different audience. This site and all of your hacking experience will be irrelevant and will probably go over most people's heads. And your troubleshooting methods will be limited.
All in all, you may be overqualified. If you really want to work with phones, look into internships and dev work where you get to do what you want. Going into Sprint and their own system won't make you feel any better.
Edit: Had to fix spacing. For some reason the text field would go off screen so I had to enter in new lines so I could see it. Just went back myself in a different browser to fix it.
Best wishes to OP, and very good points by ms (and many others)
From my Evo LTE, yup.
Talk about how you love phones and are great with them, but don't mention rooting and/or stuff related to root/s-off.

I worked for the largest private staffing company in the world and can offer a couple things or rehash what others have said but most important thing in to leave your prospects realizing the value goes both ways. They are hiribg you and you are potentially hiring them. Sell that confidence and you are golden.

Franchise. Yes, and selling phones is only to get my foot in the door. Tech would be next and down the line management. I have had good experiences with Sprint but it is the bad ones that always stick out. Those are what I wish to improve upon.

I've understood that for a long time now. We are not normal people here on xda, lol. Sometimes people just need to be shown how easily settings can be changed or what app they are looking for to suite their needs. The simpler people will need iPhones or even the dying flip type rugged phones for the construction industry. Normal people don't want to here about rooting. In fact I refuse to s-off/root others phones besides my own because they could seriously damage the OS, or it would turn out to be up to a 2 yr commitment maintaining that phone. Our modded eVos are in a whole different class that can't be touched unless it's relatively the same kind of modded phone. I also want to add their troubleshooting methods to my own. I know the tools we use but I want to know theirs as well. In personal life, people ask for such simple things like how to transfer music from the computer to their phone. Things that will bring them joy for yrs on a phone. A lot of people are still computer illiterate, but I'd rather change their thought process about phones than computers because these are truly the future. I practically only use my computer to play movies connected to my 50 inch. But a phone, well I've used that how everyone else uses a computer for yrs. Some of us on xda are light to moderate users that just want better battery to last through the day. I consider myself at the extreme of heavy user. Pretty much on it doing anything I want for as much time allows that I'm awake. One of those things is read, read, read on xda. Again I love this place, and you all show amazing support.
