Rom links are dead, rom questions inside! - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, Android + Thunderbolt + XDA Noob in the house (nice video)
I tried to download perfect storm and then gingeritis, only to see that anything linked through themilk.com seems to have gone down! Been down since last night.
I'm rooted, backed up, using clockwock, looking for a stable Rom. Have tried GB debloated and froyo debloated, was more impressed with froyo due to the lack of bugginess. In GB for example, I could not mount the SD card into windows because , apparently, it required different drivers which i was not able to find. Perfect storm caught my eye as a very efficient Froyo that is compatible with MR2 (which i upgraded, because i wanted the option to switch to CDMA only when im at work, which is literally 30 meters out of 4g range) .
But.. everyone is telling me to go with gingivitis because it is a polished GB. If i can mount my drive properly on GB that would be cool... i also noticed GB stock was simply not as smooth... though people claim OCing the processor to 1.4 helps that. Being a PC overclocker i worry about the extra voltage and heat that might result, but to be honest ive done no Thunderbolt overclock research yet.

So...the question is you need the drivers? I'm still on froyo and cm7 so I'm not much of a help here.

It doesn't require different drivers, when you plug it in and can choose "charge only/disk drive/internet pass through" select pass through, wait about 5-10 seconds, then choose disk drive mode.

I was also wondering if people had Perfect storm 1.5 and gingivitis 1.0 mirrored somewhere.

No, we are not allowed to mirror a developer's roms without their permission. I'm sure chingy knows and he'll fix it ASAP

N64oid On Vibrant

Is anyone else Having problems getting N64oid onto their vibrant? I search the market on my phone and it doesnt even come up. When i search it on my laptop at the android markets it finds it just fine, but i cant get it couse it says my device is unsupported.
However i keep seeing new reviews which leads me to think it still works and some of the reviews are coming from fellow vibrant users. Could someone see if they can
A) Find the app on your phone through the marketplace
B) Is it supported?
i emailed the dev on it, hopefully he'll get back to me soon. But if anyone else has any answers or your having the same problem... just let me know =D
thanks!
Once this is working i will start posting ROMS that work, how well they work. I owned alot of N64 games so i'll at lest post about those. If you have it working and would like to post what works and what doesnt I'll keep this first post up to date with your guys' input. =D Thanks guys again!
That's weird, n64oid shows up fine for me. Maybe its the rom you're using?
Anyways, heres what's working:
Full speed with sound:
1. Super Mario 64
2. F-Zero
3. Pokemon Stadium 2 (w/2d glitches)
4. Super Smash Bros
5. Mario Kart
6. Wave Race
7. Banjo Kazooie
8. Diddy Kong Racing
Full speed without sound:
1. Goldeneye
2. Pokemon Stadium 1
3. Zelda Majoras Mask
4. Zelda OOT (crashes frequently)
Unplayable:
1. Perfect Dark
2. DK64
3. Conkers Bad Fur Day (noooo!!)
4. Hydro Thunder
5. All Mario Partys (graphical strobe effect)
6. Paper Mario
...the rest
What ROM are you running?
It's working fine for me
that actually might be it. Im running launcher Pro, rooted with the lag fix. I'll turn that off and see if it works.
*EDIT*
Ok, i just turned it off and im still not seeing n64oid in the marketplace. I can still see it on my laptop but its still saying unsupported device. I am on android 2.1 this isnt a 2.2 only thing is it?
How do you get games???

ROM Gripper ++ seems to have the largest selection for an app on your phone. Just make sure you own original copies of the games you're downloading.

It says in rom gripper++ that some emulators don't show up in the market for some countries so this could be why.

Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
but then my lagfix wont work =( and before the lagfix i score around 860 and after im getting 2270. Even with 2.2 i was getting 870... i dont want 2.2 if i cant have the lagfix.
Dude... Lagfixes are included in damn near every rom here. Your quadrant score is a very superficial number like how many freckles one has. It all comes down to how smooth the UI is and I can assure you they all are very smooth and each is very unique in its own way. Do you want the ability to show your friends a high quadrant score? Or would you rather show them Wave Race 64 or any game you own 64 wise. I use this quite a bit and people in my area are more prone to be blown away with high end mobile nostalgia than a static screen . Take the plunge for flash alone at the least.
i know, but when i dont have my lag fix on my phone is stupid slow. Like, scrolling through my apps is glitchy and lame till i have the lag fix on.
Im using the vibrant toolbox to root my phone and then i put on ryanZA's OCLF lagfix.
is there a better one/way to speed up the phone?

Yes. Voodoo. The Overstock kernel is also VERY smooth. I don't even remember what my phone was like.before Voodoo.
Really if you've already rooted, there's no reason you shouldn't go ahead and upgrade to 2.2. Voodoo is a far better lagfix, and if you get a kernel like Overstock that supports it, you can have awesome enhancements like Voodoo Sound and Color, and BLN (let's you use your touch keys as an LED notification, blinking and all).
i actually remember why i went back to 2.1
i had just upgraded to 2.2 and that night my phone almost commited suicde. It was on my desk all by its self, nothing on it, under it or around it. It kept buzzing at me at like 3am till i finally got out of bed to see what was up.
It was SCREAMING hot and the screen had a flashing thermameder on it. It was all plugged in fine no problems... i of course unplugged it for the rest of the night. But yah...
so i just put 2.2 back on my phone. I turned off the lag fix, uninstalled the program, turned off launcher pro and uninstalled it then unrooted my phone and did the upgrade with kies mini... got done installing and rebooted and now my phone is just sitting here going buzz.......buzz.......buzz buzz...... in about 1 minute intervals on an off screen...
**EDIT**
opp got it. I Went into clockwork and reset everything then rebooted and its up. But anywho, has anyone elses phones tried to commit suicide while they were sleeping?
PS- holy crap this phone is really laggy now that i have it all "normal" ... =( strange how use to stuff you get huh...
so should i root first, put on OverStock and then apply voodoo?
First of all, stop caring about quadrant scores. Smartbench is where its at. Quadrant scores are incredibly inaccurate and easy to fool, not to mention heavily pro-htc.
Edit:
Anyways, for your lag problem, try installing a reliable custom rom like bionix-v or trigger, their stock kernels also come preinstalled with voodoo.

Smartbench, i'll remember that. =D Thanks for the heads up so i dont look as stupid in the future ;P
EDIT
Can i get a quick link to those Overstock and Voodoo, says search is disabled try again in a few minutes. I can just flash that rom onto my phone with the vibrant toolbox right?
EDIT again...
I just tried rooting my phone and it saying it failed to install the packages... =P I think between my phone almost cooking to death and not being able to root is why i went back to 2.1..... im using vibrant toolbox.
Overstock is on page one of the android development section. Don't worry so much on a separate link to Voodoo just read the OP's of a rom that you will settle on found also in the android development section. Listed there they will tell if the rom already has Voodoo injected also if it comes activated upon flashing or needing to go to recovery and initiating. Over 3/4 have voodoo in them have fun. I've never used tool box but all of the flashing for me is done through recovery.

Recommend Flashing GingerBread?

Wanting to get some peoples opinions on if i should go ahead and flash a GB rom and GB radio? I am currently running Das BAMF 1.7 and loving it. If there is something better out there, I am wanting it lol. I always like to try new things but definitley dont want to brick my TB.
It is your phone your call. The warning thread has made it aware there is no fix for the potential bricking they mentioned and the ROM threads for GB have all the pros/cons. With that said I went back to Froyo for a couple of days and flashed GB again on Friday night. Runs great (again)

Lets take the bricking issues out of the equation for a minute.
What's out there now is the sense ALPHA leak, or CM7 alpha. There are no GB ROM's out there right now completely developed for the thunderbolt. Dev's have done a great job getting these to work reasonably well considering what they have to work with. Until there is a high level release/leak we won't likely see any GB ROM's that are stable, efficient, and bug free.
Now if you are a tweaker, and are dying to see what the new features are, sure give it a shot. Other than that there really is nothing to be gained by going with GB at the moment. The Froyo ROM's are built of off completed, released code. At the moment they perform better, are more efficient, have more support, less bugs, and are stable.
Short awnser, nah...Just wait a bit until there is a better leak.
Do it.

Both batter life and GPS were improved on ginger compared to froyo
The only problem with ginger is USB mounting the phone and the potential "brick"
I don't care to one hand because I have yet to se another soul say that they have a bricked device so I slightly don't believe them

For usb mounting I believe by putting the phone into internet passthrough and allowing the drivers to install to computer...then go to disk drive it should work. lemme know if it does

Its still a "problem" so to say because it doesn't do it automatically
It takes some effort to get adb to funcion too

I wasnt going to go back to Froyo at first because i was loving the new features, plus i was getting reboots on froyo ever since i went to a custom ROM, when i got on GB, they stopped, but the scare got the best of me so i ran back to Froyo. I flashed the old CDMA/old LTE radio version (the 4th one on the thread) and went back to BAMF 1.6.3. Fortunately, the reboots did not return with Froyo and everything has been running great. i have thought about going back to GB, but i am going to wait until an official radio gets leaked. Only because that radio still needs some work and my battery was draining much faster than it was when i was on Froyo. So it's been nice to have the longer lasting battery back.

You are welcome to that opinion, but many others, including myself have experienced the exact opposite with battery life. GPS was improved though.
I get about 18-30 hours on Froyo depending on use...I never topped 15 hours on GB, and the performance was worse as well.
When I had my D1 however, GB did wonders for that phone (CM7). It improved performance and battery life by leaps and bounds...I hope for those same results on the thunderbolt once better leaks/releases are available.
Edit: When speaking about thunderbolt GB battery life/performance, I am referring to the sense roms. It's been a while since I used CM7 on the TB so it's possible that is better.

Android running as webOS app by Chomper

Getting closer...
Looks okay , But was hoping for more a Honeycomb GUI , as ive just got rid of a 2.3 Tablet to get the HP touch pad to flash to 3.0 but will 3.0 ever happen for the Touch pad ?
The general consensus seems to be that HC will not appear on the TP; as the source code was never released by Google.
What is more likely to happen is that 2.3.5 will be on the initial CM release for the Pad; with ICS being the next logical step, once it's released.
I may be wrong,
But I believe that is the long and short of it.
Hope this helps.
ugh! I would settle for 1.6 just so it is not the ugly webOS cripple.
I actually kind of like WebOS.
The not-having-multiple-screens-to-swipe-left-or-right thing takese a bit of getting used to (I'm not sued to it yet).
But I do like bouncing apps away, to close them.
That being said,
I definitely favor Android over all other O/S.

if you want to O/C again, you have to doctor 3.0.2 back on, then redo the preware etc.
as for the apps, put them in that folder and they will auto install, thats what i did, and got titanium installed (even tho its useless/keeps crashing, i had it available)

CM7 vs. Eclipse 2.2

Help a noob out? I have a virgin DX2 - never rooted - freshly updated to 2.3.5 (was in the soak) - and I'm finally ready to root it and try out a ROM. I've been lurking here for a week or so reading & trying to learn all I can about the process - and I think I'm ready to give it a shot.
Obviously Step 1 is to SBF back to 2.3.4 so I can get rooted, but after that is where I'm running into some indecision. I can't decide if I want to go straight to CM7 from there - or follow the instructions to keep root, SBF back to 2.3.5 and install Eclipse 2.2.
I know both ROMs have their loyal followers and I'm sure either would be a big improvement over stock Blur... and I know it's easy enough to try BOTH of them once I get the hang of all this... but I'd still appreciate some advice about which to try first.
For those of you who've tried both, which do you prefer? What are the pros & cons of each?
Thanks!

I'm guessing you've seen this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1632111
Seems to center around Eclipse and CM7 mostly. Eclipse can be a bit more polished in my estimation, mostly due to HDMI, FM radio, less buggy, you know, all the bells and whistles working. For the most part, either way you go you'll be fine.
Currently I have myself and my wife on CM7, we both like it. No real issues to speak of.
I personally perfer CM7RC1 its a solid daily driver very minor issues and I never get bored with it. Here's my overview of both ROMs.
CM7RC1
Pros:
Extremely Smooth.
Lots Of Mods/Tweaks.
Endless Customization.
Gingerbread 2.37
Theme Engine.
Wifi Tethering
Fully AOSP.
Toggles.
Cons:
HDMI Mirroring Is Unsupported.
FM Radio Is Unsupported.
Bugs:
Data Triangle. (Fixed By Reboot, *228)
Battery Exclamation. (Fixed By Reboot)
Some Experience Wifi Connecting Issues. (Fixed By Manual Connect)
Eclipse 2.2
Very Smooth.
Few Mods/Tweaks.
Limited Customization.
Gingerbread 2.35.
Flashable Themes.
AOSP/BLUR Hybrid.
Toggles.
Cons:
Lack Of Customization.
Is Only Gingerbread 2.35.
No Tethering.
Bugs:
Some Experience Wifi Resetting. (No Fix ATM)

I have tried out every x2 rom under the sun and as of right now I think your best bet is cm7. I would recommend running the cm7 mash up script, along with the dual core script, because with both of these the res is flawless.
but of course, I think you should try both of them out because it is personal preference. And if we get cm9 here soon then we will all be happy little cracked out, flashed up, ics'd whores with everything we can dream of for the x2, with some extra feta cheese.

This is a fair evaluation of both ROMs but really it all boils down to personal preference and things like if you need HDMI and stuff like that...I personally never use HDMI or the FM radio...but still liked eclipse and that's what I have on my wife's phone albeit its 2.1...I am sure when CM9 comes out she will like to try it...in short flash them both run them for a week or so and see which one you like and go from there

Just a caution on CM7; I haven't tried the latest release but on the first release the camcorder continuous auto-focus didn't function. It seemed to focus once when you press the shutter button and remain fixed, and sometimes that focus was in error itself. Not a lot of people seem to care about that but my phone has the heavy responsibility of archiving my sons' most important memories for them to look back on when they are older, so I just went back to stock rom. Other than that, CM7 seemed great.
I use CM7RC1 Dual Core Script, Build Prop Mashup, 8 Touch Point Mod, Cron Scheduler, Beats Audio, 3 CDMA Mods. My phone is blazing fast!

In my experience the beats audio hack ruined my sound quality. Also the dual core script......Our 2nd core boots up automatically when there's a demand for more memory. Dragonzkiller even stated this is the dual core script thread. Keeping both on at all times pretty much only drains your battery faster. Only difference I noticed with it was the home screen animations were a little snappier. Wasn't enough change in performance for the lack of battery IMHO. Just a few things if you go the CM7 route. Never tried Eclipse so I can't help you there.

Why do these keep popping up...the search bar is definitely not be used...
Anyways...Eclipse is literally a hair slower than cm7 but it is worlds more stable. Wifi on Eclipse far better than cm7's. Cm7 has some SU issues but they can be fixed by installing Super SU from the market and getting rid of the normal SU app.
Tethering is easier on cm7 is strong -- heat is something you'll have to worry about. I've tethered on Eclipse through the use of a Market app so a little more work must be done there.
Downside to Eclipse is that you must go to 2.3.5 to use it whereas Cm7 is 2.3.4. Battery life on Eclipse is better for me. I've had serious computer trouble this past month and have had to do some research for papers on my phone! With the brightness on full, Gmusic/Pandora/power amp going and internet on my battery would last ~6-9 hours.
I should also mention that I have the Second Core Script going and my battery life took a very small. Not backbreaking but noticeable.
Not going to lie ; your phone will heat up slightly more regardless of the rom you're on when you use the script
Personally I enjoy Eclipse much more than cm7. Blue is my favorite color
Come over to the dark side...
Hmm haven't ran into any sound issues yet. As far as the dual core script I understand the core will activate on demand. The thing is this only happens when the CPU becomes so over tasked by processes it create a short lag before kicking in. This script makes that laggy transition disappear. I would only recommend this script for people with the extended battery like me tho.

Obviously, lol... no "lag" or time needed to boot because its already always on...
Did you use the script editor in ROM toolbox to apply it, sealedfate? If so do you check apply on boot, or do you only use it when you see fit?

If you have a X2 now I would say you have to try them both. Run one for a couple of weeks do a nano back up and then try the other for a couple of weeks. Then you can decide which you like better. Or you can do like I did and just keep going back and forth every few weeks because you love them both
I have the script in system/ect/init.d so it applies on boot. Helps a hell of a lot with 3D games.

Actually, like I said in my first post, I'm been doing nothing but searching and reading on here for the past week or so. Eclipse 2.2 just dropped a week ago, so I was looking for fresh opinions from people who had tried CM7 and that version specifically.
I appreciate all the helpful comments from everyone though. I think I'll do like a few of you suggested and try them both eventually... starting with CM7.
Hopefully we can all add CM9 to the list of ROMs to try very soon!

Yep! I've been following his Twitter feed and the "CM9DX2 anticipation" thread on here. Can't wait to see how it goes. Sounds like he's REAL close!
Success! Following Moon Shadow's instructions to the letter, I successfully SBF'd back to 2.3.4, rooted, and installed CM7 without any problems whatsoever. CM7 is up and running! Just need to get my apps reinstalled and I'll be good to go. Man... you guys weren't kidding. The phone is SOOOO much faster/smoother now, it's not even funny. Should have done this a long time ago.
Thanks everyone!
OK, it appears that I spoke too soon. I realized soon after that the Google apps did not get loaded on my phone (Gmail, Maps, Nav, YouTube, etc.), but some of the other apps in that same ZIP file DID get installed (Talk). Also, my old background pic was still on the phone.
I was able to download/install the missing Google apps without any problem and they all work perfectly (including Nav from the car dock) - and everything else has been running flawlessly. The phone is very fast & smooth... no bugs... not a single force close or reboot yet after fairly heavy use for the last couple of days.
So... obviously something didn't go perfectly with my install, but as far as I can tell, everything is fine with the phone. How can I tell if I'm missing anything else? Should I just keep what I have or SBF back to 2.3.4 and start over again? I'm perfectly happy with it right now - but maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

Not sure how anyone might be able to tell you what you might be missing on your phone. It is pretty basic what you get, not a lot of bells and whistles put in by default.
Not aware of a comprehensive list of what you should have exactly.

Need Testers - Hopefully Better Multitasking (Flashable Zip Inside)

first thing, this wont brick your device (0% chance)
what i have done is patched the services.jar to allow more apps to stay in memory (up to 8 i think)
ive been using it and so far my browser have not reloaded once, only when i load up over 8 apps at the same time
this means your phone will have less available memory, but its being put to good use, since its not being used anyway lol
the main change ive noticed so far is improvement in the browser, way less reloads.
i need a couple people to flash this and report your findings
it also makes your phone UI a bit faster as well. lemme know. maybe its a placebo for me, which i hope im wrong
flash away
Safe to assume this needs to be used on the newest base?

Another note is Mikey mentioned he fixed MeanROM on the previous base to have a higher OOM priority (lower number) for the browser, gapps, and other stuff so they wouldn't get killed so easily.
Any thoughts on doing the same thing also? I have no idea if Auto Memory Manager works on ICS, that allows you to modify the OOM priority for specific apps.

This keeps the browser in memory even after running 6 apps. I'll keep testing it through out the day.

Testing now.. Hey flex I'm loving stock w/ goodies but I'm a noob and can't post in development yet. Am I the only one have issues adding a card in google wallet and gTalk won't log in correctly. You're the man by the way.
there is also a script the zeppelinx is working on the deletes the time when android is suppose to kill apps. it is in the v6 superccharger thread.
I was able to go about 8 apps deep before it killed sky fire. I got about 5 with the tweak in the other thread.

Do you need to be on the deodoxed rom to flash this. Also I'm on 2.13 htvdev unlocked with no desire to s-off, will this mod cause some sort of discrepancy in build that will stop me from being able to apply future ota updates.
