I am wondering if there is anyway to change the PRL on the Evo 3d.
I previously used the method posted by Techknowfile at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073 to flash a different PRL to my Evo 4g...it makes a HUGE difference in the download speeds I get where I work.
Is there anyway to change the PRL on the Evo 3d right now or do I need to wait until root is achieved to use the old EPST.apk in that post?

I would also like to be able to do this if possible. I don't have my Evo 3d yet, but the Fed Ex guy should be dropping it off on Monday.
Im guessing no you cant you have to have root to flash any radio's ect.... Also the evo 4g and the 3d hardware is not the same . So prob wont work , can anyone confirm this ?
I don't think changing the PRL requires root. It doesn't, according to the post OP linked. Looks like just entering in a menu, msl, and applying the file downloaded on phone.
The prl file for og evo is probably different from the 3d though.
I would really love for this to happen for 3d. If a custom prl isn't possible, is there a way to manually enter the prl settings from the modded og EVO prl files?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
no root required, but the ##prl# cmd doesnt do anything. ##data# still works and you can easily pull your MSL from CDMA workshop, but im still playing around with how to force a manual prl update.
Well with the method that was used with the EVO you would replace the newer version of the EPST file with the older one. That restores the ##PRL# command and allowed you to manually update to whatever PRL you wanted. I was hoping it would be something as simple with the EVO 3d.
I see now gothir, need root too replace that file in system/app, then prl commands work. Drat! Really wanted to play around with those custom prl settings.
Sounds like the fix I'm looking for.

I am wondering if you can use CDMA workshop to drop in a PRL. There is a great post with step-by-step instructions to get CDMA workshop working with the EVO 3d at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140870 ...just follow through the post and don't change the proxy settings at the end unless you want to.
Under the "Other" tab there is a section dealing with the PRL. The read button won't work unless it is a registered version but the write button seems to work since it will open a window to select a PRL. I haven't tried actually writing a PRL to the phone yet because I am not sure if all the PRL files are compatible with the phone. Would I be able to download the 00001 PRL file from the original post and put that on my Evo 3d or is that file only compatible with the original Evo?
There is also a method to change the PRL for the Epic 4g using this method at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898628 for a reference as to what I am wanting to do.
I was able to get a PRL written to the phone using QPST. I posted a guide HERE

I have used the custom 00001 PRL from the OG EVO on my 3D and it works great.
________
HTC EVO 3D @ 1.7GHz running silverneedle kernel and viperROM
Here is the 21081.zip prl, unzip it and put on your sd card, use ##775# to install it.
If your epst is not working you can install the update one attached.
I dont have the 000001 prl but i heard that is not a good option.
Here is the updated EPST!

I think he wants to use the service prl profile 00001
I have no clue how to push a prl....I imagine having a locked bootloader is gonna make that difficult

Not sure if it will work with the photon because it is dated, but the process is probably somewhat similar.

what do you mean by dated??
"If dialing ##775# doesn't do anything, try dialing ##775 or ##778 (then hit call)" this method doesn't work.. is there any other way to get into this option on photon?
Well it is a year old and it was for the EVO. Dialing the ## codes was a Froyo thing. I dont think it works with Gingerbread. This is why I said it was dated.
EDIT: More reading, but I have no idea if it works on the photon: http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?topic=5430.0
Use at your own risk.
Like the title states. All roms I have used recently do not have the old epst, and I am trying to flash a prl. What can I do that on?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
For starters it has to be a Sense rom. And if you're on a sense rom, you will need to make sure that that epst is installed. (Most have them) If it doesn't, you can find it floating around here somewhere.

I've got a flashable zip that will give you the old epst...1 min...

The old epst is cool for PRL changing, but crashes when you try and edit WiMAX settings. I may remove it from my ROM.

Good to know Freeza. Thanks.
I was trying to manually change my prl. By hitting ##775# then using a prl I downloaded. I tired installing the epst.apk and dialing ##775# and nothing happened. Is there something another way to do this? Thanks ahead.

[HOW TO] Guide to changing your PRL - no root required
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145111
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK THIS COULD BRICK YOUR DEVICE!!!!
bigdaddy619 has pointed out some good info.
I tried this today actually and got it to work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673490
i was not happy with PRL25010 and reverted back to 25009.
I have an Evo 3D that I flashed to Sprint and it works fine on ICS ROMs but I cannot get JB or CM to work. They flash and start fine but they reset all the settings back to Sprint. I have tried ROMs that say Virgin and they do it also.
Is there something I can do to make the Virgin settings permanent? I an s-off.
I was able to use MIUI but did not like it.

I'm just taking a stab at this because I flash my device to another provider but the ROM probably has settings that are for Sprint built into the ROM itself. So, when you flash the ROM, it's settings those default options of the phone back to Sprint since that's what the ROM was built for...EVO 3D on Sprint. I could be wrong but that's my guess.
Yeah but it resets the ESN also.
Just a little more information. Everything gets reverted, ESN, MEID, all the things I have to change to work on Virgin.
Try dfs when you zero and write meid. Seems to stick better.

Use profile #1 instead of 0. While writing in qpst. For some reason the 3d always reverts back to #1
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I shall try that. Thank you.
So, they are currently rolling out 800 mhz and LTE in my area, From what I understand the PRL makes no difference other than to look for roaming and certain bands. So an old PRL that does not have LTE in my area is bad. I have also come across a later corprate PRL to allow verizon roming.
I have the latest avatar rom and rooted. I am still S-on and I have changed ro.build.type to dev. Debugging is also on. I have downloaded the latest PRL and ##778# does not work. In fact I can not find a single ## code that works. Am I screwed? Do I need to go back to stock???
You need to be on a Sense ROM to update your PRL or use those dialer commands.
Also keep in mind that you cannot roam on another 4G network.

Also I think AOSP kills the dialer commands too. I tried to update my PRL on CM10 and it just kept trying to dial the number rather than giving me the update menu. Just an FYI.

This coming from a guy that seems to follow my posts around just to argue...
You try installing the latest CM10.1 rom and follow the plethora of different prl update threads on here and see if it works for you. If you know a trick to it great, that is why I am asking, But showing up just to make snide comments is stupid.
Follow the directions in this thread to manually change your PRL while on a Sense ROM. If you simply want the latest Sprint PRL for your area, make a Nandroid backup of your current setup, then flash a Sense ROM and update your PRL from the settings menu. After it's updated you can restore your backup.

Thank you.
I did a hybrid of the two.
I had to flash a sense rom and it still would not use the update PRL.
I then used ## codes to enable modem mode and used CDMA workshop to flash the corporate rom!
If I could only find a way to enable modem/ dev mode on my Avatar rom I would be set.
Thank you to all that provided constructive responses.

After flashing a Sense rom you must edit the build.prop so that ro.build.type = dev. Reboot then try ##778# and you will have the option to change prl. I've done it on meanbean, viper, operation jellybean, and the Sense 5 port. All with success. Just some future info.
