Here what I have now:
phone: X10i
OS: 2.2.1
BB: 2.1.54
Kernel: 2.6.29
cROM: FreeX10-beta4_zdzihu
I'm pretty much bored of this ROM besides my batery life is less than 1 day (!) and never longer. All I want is fast stable ROM with wifi, camera working (any camcorder) and of course longer battery life time (2 days will be awesome). I was digging lot of the threads, reading about GB roms, newest kernels or deepsleep and I'm a little bit confused with to choose? Do I have to restore my phone to stock each time I change it or just flash it with kernels/bb added by devs to their ROMs? Waiting till August (I expected June) for new stock GB release doesn't satisfy me and I want to have some fun with GB custom rom now. I have my X10i six months for now and I feel it never reached even half of its potential while in my hands.
Please give me some short answers or links and I will more than priciate for it. Thanks in advance and apologize for my bad English.

You have to use root explorer and go to system/kernel and delete the boot.froyo.img and rename the boot.img to boot.froyo.img on 2.2
Sent from my X10a TW 007 using XDA App
There isn't any boot.froyo.img file. Should I rename boot.img anyways?
EDIT: i did rename it. Installed zKernel again. boot.froyo.img with boot.img appeared on system/kernel/. I deleted boot.froyo.img then and renamed boot.img again. Rebooted, fraps still capped, no change at kernel ver.

Hello everyone,
Today I have seen that there is a new Beta update at the Froyo rom.
Now I read "REQUIRES LATEST KERNEL AND BASEBAND 2.1.54 (shipped in stock 2.1.A.0.435 ROM)"
What I have to do now? Any explaination?
Flash, root & xrecovery instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733
Then follow Beta4 instructions.
I have found that beta 4 is eating my battery though. 10% per hour. I was using a third of that with Beta 3.
I going back to Beta 3 now.
i dont think we can use the above mentioned link for baseband update, check the reply by the author when someone had problem installing the freex10 beta4 in the same thread on page 2

2.1.54 is the latest baseband which comes with the 2.1.A.0.435 ROM (you even copied that on your first post ). Anyway, try reading this post by KULANV:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=3904
The steps he provided is easy to follow. I did mine the long way but that was before anyone posted the shorter way.
try this HOWTO, if you don't wanna mess something up!
Use it when your baseband is 54+ and want to try out J's cm7 rom or rdannar's GB Miui rom or Arc rom.
Tested working on J016 and J017 and rdannar's GB Miui - for stock kernel only.
Do it at your own risk and it's not supported by J
Patch it with cm7bb54.zip
Restore back the original with cm7bb52.zip (if you decide to change base band)
This patch won't solve any problem that may come with the rom (such as wlod)
Note: This patch won't work on Trip's GB Miui
pls hit Thanks button if it helps you
I want to make sure I got this all correct:
1. If on bb.54+, flash cm7bb54.zip to patch/use cm7
2. If previously flashed to bb.52, flash cm7bb52.zip to go back to bb.54+
Would I have to flash each zip file every time I want to go back and forth between each rom?
Thanks cobrato!
1.correct
2. only if you decide to flash bb52 again(for any reason) and still want to use cm7 flash cm7bb52.zip
no. if you are flashing a new rom which requires bb54 and you are on bb54 then no need to flash this zip.
Can use this patch for bb.55 ?
I finally gave in and left FreeX10 to test out CM7.
It feels pretty stable but there's some issues I sense still need tweaking and I'll post after I'm done here.
QQ; what improvements have you sensed using .54 over .52, both in general and with CM7?
Personally i don't think there are any improvements. But some people just want a higher number. In fact some of the functions in .54 are broken like auto-time settings.

Not correct.....
If you are in north america .49/.52 causes many issues, especially when it comes to dropped calls , failed text messages and slow 3g+ speeds.
On .55 the failed text issue is fixed completely, I get much better call signal and faster 3g+.

Your usb port, or usb cable?
You can't install the kernel needed for GB without flashtool.
So if your usb port is broken, maybe look on ebay for spare parts to fix it.
If your usb cable is broken, buy a new one.
Good luck
sorry but how do i apply this patch? i'm on BB54 with a broken usb connector
i guess this might be (all steps via xrecovery)
1.- install patch
2.- install 2.3.3 rom (any rom available)
3.- install custom kernel (zKernel might be)
is this correct?
thanks in advance

I've always wondered this too. I'm no developer and also have no idea how it works. But I always wondered why they never developed for the newer basebands. Is it harder or something?

Please don't just request a ROM and a special kernel on a special baseband.
The devs here are GODS and when they develop af kernel that works on a specific baseband I am sure they will release it here
ATM I am on Wolfbreaks Froyo with stock kernel and it work flawlessly.

baseband 49 gives better radio and signal is always strong.
baseband 58 eats alot of battery and doesnt give good stability for custom roms.

i know the Dev here are gods, it is just a question, i search everytime, my questen is just why you use only bb.49 oder .54 but not .58?
The kernels that are being developed are only working on basebands .49 and .52 if it was possible for them to get the kernels working on .54 .55 and .58 it would be big news
I'm sure no one is bothered really as it takes 2 mins Max to flash a new baseband
So no offence buddy but be patient, it may never come at all or maybe when 2.3.3 comes but who cares as long as we can use them in general
And please next time post in Q&A

hi i just bought my phone last week an I've already experienced some lag even though there's not much apps installed. so now i want to try a custom rom. what rom would be the best for first timers thanks..
If you have 2.2 installed (old baseband) than andy's phoenix rom is the best.
Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909242
If you have 2.3 (new baseband) than you should go for Ginger LOL:

baseband is not the android version. i wrote up a small thing on baseband here.
here is the link for ginger lol (the link in post two is actually the right link except for the four dots):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118685
in my opinion, i would use andy's phoenix rom. follow these instructions:
a) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15309588&postcount=2
b) also, since you are currently using official gingerbread (2.3.3), you need to downgrade your baseband version, instructions found here
thanks for the info man. as i've read, most roms will eventually support the new baseband. so i think, im gonna wait a little longer for that. one more thing though. i though when i install rom, the kernel comes along with it, but as i read it seems that i need to flash my kernel too? thanks for your help.
phoenix rom comes with franco's .35 kernel preinstalled
There's no need to install other kernel.
roms using old baseband is never going to support new baseband...
DUDE I prefer, no need to root your stock rom for installing custom rom.
follow http://lg-p500-optimusone.blogspot.com/ if u want this.
note : I didnt try this but this should work

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT before flashing custom kernel please tell me how to backup my official kernel.... so that if in case i will go back to the stock one.

Is there any need to backup phone data such as apps, contacts ,messages, etc.?
one thing I also want to know that what kernel do.. what is its main role..?

IMHO most stable kernel is paolo v5/v6, it overclocks quite good (with external app - e.g. No-frills), no problem with tethering (wifi or usb) or 3g. I think v5 has a little longer battery life.
To backup stock kernel you need to make nandroid backup (that creates backup of everything on your phone and in case of restoring, it will overwrite every change you made on phone since backup). To do that you need recovery (I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery, but there is also other recovery somewhere in our P500 thread).
Recovery is also needed to install new kernel. There is short guide how to do that in kernel thread (you need to install downloaded zip). New kernel doesn't wipe your msgs, contacts or apps if you made no mistakes.
Custom kernels do few things: fixes bugs made by lg, boost phone performance (different kernels give more or less boost), unlocks overclocking, changing governors (controls CPU clock transitions, and therefore battery life and smoothness) and scheduler (i have too little knowledge about android to say, what it should do, but i observed no difference between schedulers), gives you better battery life, fix touch lag (but not multitouch inversion lag bug).
You should try Paolo's and Franco's kernels and choose which one fits you better. Franco's need app to use wifi tethering but is faster than Paolo's.
I experienced more restarts on paolo's v6 and franco's than on v5 (my favourite so far, but there is also new paolo's based kernel that I haven't tested yet).
To install recovery (and kernel) you need root.
All needed instructions and links are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247
AND MOST IMPORTANT THING - ALWAYS DO WHAT INSTRUCTIONS SAY AND DO NOT INSTALL KERNEL THAT IS NOT INTENDED FOR YOUR ROM, SO READ AND INSTALL CAREFULLY.

Hey Indian user, don't be afraid of flashing Kernel, you can always change it.. and I went twice to service centre with CWM 5.2.0... OC-480-729... franco's .35 kernel ... and they didn't came to know anything... but if you give them a phone with custom ROM then the'll reject it..
Abhinav i m a newbie to android.. actually i m an IT person.. n understands what u r saying but i m feeling afraid of doing any thing wrong bcoz i have already bricked my phn earlier while flashing gb through kdz.. so its very important for me to under the process first...
As per ur suggestion.. plz correct me or help me if i m wrong:
Firstly i have to download adb n install over my xp based pc..
Secondly in adb i have to run adb push command for sending the database file to the phn...
STOP..... WHAT file IS THAT DB IS...? N from where i get this.. i mean where did i get this stock recovery,? in which format is the recovry is?
And how the process will be run .. n how the clockwork recovery is replaced with stock one.. i have tried the combination of three buttons at startup in stock rom but no menu opens instead the phn will forcefully reset. so where is the official recovery?.
Help me plz expain how to do n for what to do in each n every step...
Is it true that after installing cw recovry n custom kernel we cant do a kdz stock flash..... Confirm me that after having custom kernel.. it should not lead the phone in non detecting position.. n if kdz works n can remove both kernel n cw recovery too then i think this is much easier ... i had seen a lot of post that o1 bricked by kdz flashing gb.... so if it possible then i have decided to flash froyo first n then update the phone via pc suite.... help me.... plzzz

yes if u flashed a cutom kernel a custom recovery or a custom rom you can use kdz just turn on the usb debugging mode in setting>application>development to flash official stock froyo or official gb.. by using kdz method everything will be reverted back to stock recovery, kernel, rom, everything.. i suggest you to firstly flash the stock froyo using kdz method so you will be psychologically satisfied that you can go to stock
