I've always wondered this too. I'm no developer and also have no idea how it works. But I always wondered why they never developed for the newer basebands. Is it harder or something?
Just out of curiosity.
I really don't understand why still so many people asking in the wrong section....the search function the most powerful tool here...I always find my answers by using it.....

Please don't just request a ROM and a special kernel on a special baseband.
The devs here are GODS and when they develop af kernel that works on a specific baseband I am sure they will release it here
ATM I am on Wolfbreaks Froyo with stock kernel and it work flawlessly.

baseband 49 gives better radio and signal is always strong.
baseband 58 eats alot of battery and doesnt give good stability for custom roms.

i know the Dev here are gods, it is just a question, i search everytime, my questen is just why you use only bb.49 oder .54 but not .58?
The kernels that are being developed are only working on basebands .49 and .52 if it was possible for them to get the kernels working on .54 .55 and .58 it would be big news
I'm sure no one is bothered really as it takes 2 mins Max to flash a new baseband
So no offence buddy but be patient, it may never come at all or maybe when 2.3.3 comes but who cares as long as we can use them in general
And please next time post in Q&A

Read one of the 100's of threads asking the same thing before starting a new one. Your phone is the same as everyone elses here, there is no difference between what works for them and you.
Dont mean to come off like an ass but there is a post just a few down where reviews have been posted for many ROMs and if you read the dev threads each ROM should have comments from the dev and changelogs detailing what works and doesnt. If you read through these posts you wouldn't need to clutter these forums with posts like this. Everyone has their own preferences, there is no such thing as "The BEST ROM"

First off you should try posting in the right section
What baseband are you on? Assuming you're on AT&T. Had same issue. Best for me is base band 67 with kernel from 65 (if you're not using custom kernel)
Gimme some more info.
Edit: (dammit Pawnty beat me....)
@Pawny, if youre not going to help, just dont post
And @andrew .. Yes i am on at&t. Im using baseband 2.1.65 .. maybe thats the problem?

Try this.
Flash it in recovery and lemme know if it helps.
If not, then you may want to try a complete wipe and clean install. AT&T is a ***** with the SMS on custom ROMs. Kinda hit-or-miss.
I think that the x10a has something different going on than the x10i.
Trip noticed a difference over in da neederlands with a x10a replacing his x10i.
Dunno what it could be.

Didnt work :/ okay so i wipe everything, flash the rom, then flash this? and continue with the steps on the launcher, browser, etc?
Or should i change my baseband?
Try changing to BB67 first. Then if it still doesn't work, then I'd try the wipe.
Are you using a custom kernel?
Im on EWJET using: FINAL and STABLE REALEASE(no WLOD and still performance improved) - ewX.tweaks.xkernel.X9e zKernel | 2.6.29

Really? I never noticed an issue with my MMS on AT&T... As long as you are on a baseband your ROM will recognize (or you use the baseband patch) you should be fine.
My advice would be to check your baseband (options>about phone) and make sure it is one your ROM is ok with (check the ROM's thread).

dude, why don't you think about it ? x10a obviously. you have an x10a, so you flash x10a firmware. if you have an x10i, you will flash x10i fw.

No need to be like that.
I've run all sorts of firmware on my x10a. (were also talking about basebands, not firmware) It's not like there is a definite and obvious solution for these problems as you try to make it sound. Not all ROMs are compatible with x10a basebands and vice-versa with x10i.
Move to proper forum.

hi i just bought my phone last week an I've already experienced some lag even though there's not much apps installed. so now i want to try a custom rom. what rom would be the best for first timers thanks..
If you have 2.2 installed (old baseband) than andy's phoenix rom is the best.
Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909242
If you have 2.3 (new baseband) than you should go for Ginger LOL:

baseband is not the android version. i wrote up a small thing on baseband here.
here is the link for ginger lol (the link in post two is actually the right link except for the four dots):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118685
in my opinion, i would use andy's phoenix rom. follow these instructions:
a) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15309588&postcount=2
b) also, since you are currently using official gingerbread (2.3.3), you need to downgrade your baseband version, instructions found here
thanks for the info man. as i've read, most roms will eventually support the new baseband. so i think, im gonna wait a little longer for that. one more thing though. i though when i install rom, the kernel comes along with it, but as i read it seems that i need to flash my kernel too? thanks for your help.
phoenix rom comes with franco's .35 kernel preinstalled
There's no need to install other kernel.
roms using old baseband is never going to support new baseband...
DUDE I prefer, no need to root your stock rom for installing custom rom.
follow http://lg-p500-optimusone.blogspot.com/ if u want this.
note : I didnt try this but this should work

Questions like: what kernel, what baseband, got drunk and bricked my phone.... HERE
OK, first q: can someone post Neocore results on F1 and 06.12 franco`s kernel?
Baseband question: i'm on the new baseband (was on stock 2.3, then flashed to openoptimus). I really like the look of some of these .32 kernels and roms but everything says its for old baseband.
Can i go back to the old baseband? Is there a thread somewhere? Is it safe? From my own investigation, it looks to me like I don't go back to the old baseband, but rather flash some patch to make the roms work anyway. Sound right?

It won't be OK. If your phone uses the "new" baseband, ROMs made for the "old" baseband will work on your phone (as in flashing will be successful, the phone boots etc.) and everything works except for the most important thing in a phone: the GSM/UMTS module. Which means you won't be able to connect to your mobile network and won't be able to make and receive calls. Bummer. Now, there's a patch that solves this BUT something will still be missing: mobile data. You will be able to make and receive phone calls, but you won't be able to connect to the internet using the mobile data connection (only WiFi).
So, if you want to use a ROM that clearly states it's made for the old baseband, old baseband is what you must have on your phone in order for both calls and internet to work. How to tell which baseband do you have right now it's a different discussion and we'll get there if necessary. I just detailed vlt86's answer for you to understand.
EDIT: I see you already know what baseband you have - the new one. Follow voyager20021's link in order to find out how to return to the old one.

As we know there are two types of baseband's available for our device, old baseband which is used by froyo and some gingerbread rom's and new baseband that is used by gingerbread onwards.
To switch baseband you either need to flash baseband through lgmdp or flash firmware using kdz and both involves a substantial degree of risk of bricking your device.
What I will be telling will not actually change your baseband but will make the ROM compatible with the baseband you are using. So here it is how it goes.
-> If you are having old baseband and want to use new baseband ROM, flash this after flashing ROM
https://www.box.com/shared/jt2m8hl8jd6qul915z4g
-> If you are having new baseband and want to use old baseband ROM, flash this after flashing ROM
https://www.box.com/shared/r5l39a5ocaxr8zq1s46h
Note:- Patch for old baseband was originally made by adfadd and thats where idea came for creating a patch for new baseband. While the patch by adfadd is long lost in pile of threads, this is where this thread will come handy.
Flashing baseband through LGMDP cannot brick your device, only flashing full firmwares via LGMDp or KDZ_FW_UPD can have chance to brick

i looked into the zip file and found that a few lib files are added by flashing the patch. would this affect the performance? my phone works fine in 90% of the time. however, sometimes it is just too laggy to even answer calls. it could become normal after some time, say 30s ro 1min.
i dont have this problem when i was using roms based on the old baseband. so i am wondering what would the patch do to the system.
thanks.
