Switching Baseband - The easy way [ Tested on GB ] - Optimus One, P500, V General

Mod plz add this to sticky or link it in sticky
As we know there are two types of baseband's available for our device, old baseband which is used by froyo and some gingerbread rom's and new baseband that is used by gingerbread onwards.
To switch baseband you either need to flash baseband through lgmdp or flash firmware using kdz and both involves a substantial degree of risk of bricking your device.
What I will be telling will not actually change your baseband but will make the ROM compatible with the baseband you are using. So here it is how it goes.
-> If you are having old baseband and want to use new baseband ROM, flash this after flashing ROM
https://www.box.com/shared/jt2m8hl8jd6qul915z4g
-> If you are having new baseband and want to use old baseband ROM, flash this after flashing ROM
https://www.box.com/shared/r5l39a5ocaxr8zq1s46h
Note:- Patch for old baseband was originally made by adfadd and thats where idea came for creating a patch for new baseband. While the patch by adfadd is long lost in pile of threads, this is where this thread will come handy.

Flashing baseband through LGMDP cannot brick your device, only flashing full firmwares via LGMDp or KDZ_FW_UPD can have chance to brick

Manual search fix
Here is the libril.so for manual search fix. My friend tested it on new baseband and it works.
So, probably for all new basebands including funnysim may work for gingerbread, ics and jellybean. Please test it on and report.

Good job.

i looked into the zip file and found that a few lib files are added by flashing the patch. would this affect the performance? my phone works fine in 90% of the time. however, sometimes it is just too laggy to even answer calls. it could become normal after some time, say 30s ro 1min.
i dont have this problem when i was using roms based on the old baseband. so i am wondering what would the patch do to the system.
thanks.

those libs aren't going to affect performance in any way... its the ROM & kernel that affects performance.

Am I mistaken, or is there a flashable zip to undo the old bb fix?

[Q] Can't Save APNs in Custom Roms

hey XDA peeps,
Seasoned Android modifier here.
Got a LG Optimus One from Telus (Canada) (P500h), came with 2.3.3 .
I can root it, flash custom Roms, Flash the Baseband Fix, Flash a custom Kernel and restore it back to Stock 2.3.3.
The only thing I can't make it do, is make my custom ROMs save my Rogers Wirelss APNs !!!
I can't seem to find a KDZ file for the V10 (2.2.1) firmware and two of us cannot figure out how to flash the DZ files, (Cannot Find Monitor Port?? Tried 2 different computers). From my understanding, its best to start from the 2.2 Software, but I can't find it for my P500h Telus Canada.
I see that I am not the only one who is having the APN Problem.
So what I'm asking is
A) How do I fix this APN not saving issue
B) Which CM ROM should I flash that does not have this issue
Thanks!
You have to downgrade your baseband to old one then you can save apn ...
Flash cm6.5.8 it is stable

So, i gather that the zip file ive been flashin via CWM called "baseband fix" is not downgrading my baseband.
Is this a file I have to flash via KDZ? Can anyone link me to the file? I've looked high and low for such a file.

And, don't use the XDA search option, use google.. my best friend you know

You're welcome,
I would like you to press thnx
Thanks guys, last time i installed that rom it failed miserably. I tried again and it works great and it seems i didn't need to flash the new baseband coming from the stock 2.3.3 software.
Thanks a lot!

[Discussion][02/01/12](A7)(F1)CyanogenMod 7.2.0-RC0 KANG

Discussion thread for cyanogenmod 7.2.0 by adfad666
No more spamming in the main thread
Questions like: what kernel, what baseband, got drunk and bricked my phone.... HERE
OK, first q: can someone post Neocore results on F1 and 06.12 franco`s kernel?
Baseband question: i'm on the new baseband (was on stock 2.3, then flashed to openoptimus). I really like the look of some of these .32 kernels and roms but everything says its for old baseband.
Can i go back to the old baseband? Is there a thread somewhere? Is it safe? From my own investigation, it looks to me like I don't go back to the old baseband, but rather flash some patch to make the roms work anyway. Sound right?

It won't be OK. If your phone uses the "new" baseband, ROMs made for the "old" baseband will work on your phone (as in flashing will be successful, the phone boots etc.) and everything works except for the most important thing in a phone: the GSM/UMTS module. Which means you won't be able to connect to your mobile network and won't be able to make and receive calls. Bummer. Now, there's a patch that solves this BUT something will still be missing: mobile data. You will be able to make and receive phone calls, but you won't be able to connect to the internet using the mobile data connection (only WiFi).
So, if you want to use a ROM that clearly states it's made for the old baseband, old baseband is what you must have on your phone in order for both calls and internet to work. How to tell which baseband do you have right now it's a different discussion and we'll get there if necessary. I just detailed vlt86's answer for you to understand.
EDIT: I see you already know what baseband you have - the new one. Follow voyager20021's link in order to find out how to return to the old one.

The only reason not to flash to the new baseband with Gingerbread (2.3) is if your carrier uses HSDPA in the 1700Mhz band (T-Mobile in the US, for example).
In that case, I recommend sticking with the stock rom (or a custom one that includes the LG framework, at least), modifying it yourself (flashing a new kernel alone will make it feel like a new phone), and retain the features found only in the LG framework (the LG camera app is tremendously better than any of the available alternatives). Or, if you don't mind losing most of the camera's features, you can upgrade to a version of Gingerbread that supports the old baseband (I recommend Adfad666's A-Series or F-Series rom with fserv's modified version of the francokernel).
Otherwise, it would be advisable to take the leap and enjoy the enhancements of the new baseband (most notably, users are reporting a stronger overall signal).
Keep in mind that in the future, most rom developers will probably be shifting strictly to the new baseband. So, if you switch now, you'll be prepared for any future rom updates.

flash baseband

i have this p500 allmost a year so i would love to know if there is a way to flash the new baseband because i want to flash the NightlyFourE V4.6 rom so if there is any "HOWTO" or something like that please post this in here
There are many good tutorials around. The easiest way is to update to official GB from LG. In this way, you'll get the new BB automatically. After that, you can root the device, install clockworkmod from market and get any ROM for the new BB.

But anyway follow the link in my signature, the method in my tutorial is installing the new gingerbread update using kdz, and helps you re-root and install correct recovery

CM9 for p509

So i want to try cm9 on my p509. I've tried many times to upgrade the baseband, but whenever i do i get no gsm and my imei disappears. trust me i've followed the guide EXACTLY. so i just stick with old bb. I want to flash to this cm9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614420. My question is if i flash this rom will it brick my phone (because i'm on old bb). if it won't then can someone post a link to a old bb fix so i can get data working on my phone when i flash it. I need this info urgently because i'm about to travel in a few hours and want to flash before i do. Thank you!
It will not brick your phone, and I haven't the FIX yet.

I think, it doesn't work. The ROM boots, but you have no signal etc. Even restore a nandroidbackup doesn't downgrade the baseband.

Why would he need to downgrade
Both cm7.2 and cm9 run on new baseband, right?
Though not sure what restoring nandroid will do in this case as then it would have old-bb fix on new baseband:cyclops:
yeah i hear ya. so is it reccomended that i reflash cm 7.2 so then i coulld stay on new baseband? then it would be easier for me to flash roms for new bb right?
okay... i am gonna explain this and hope i am right..sry for big post
Our phone has many partitions like(system, data, boot, recovery, cache, etc)
The mbn files that you see in P500-v20G-baseband.7z are partition images(or pieces of it or bin file or something similar....am not sure)
Now to install a custom rom, you format system, data, cache(or boot too in some cases) and then flash the rom, which basically copies new files to these partitions.
SO,custom rom does not affect other partitions present on your phone.
However when you install stock through kdz, it basically wipes your whole phone and install each partition again(including the one containing baseband). So, after installing a kdz...you are stuck with that baseband no matter which rom you install through recovery unless you install a kdz again with diff baseband.
The lgmdp method only changes the partition containing baseband (amss.mbn). So,again custom roms have no effect on baseband.
Now, to answer your ques.

No, you dont need to reflash any other rom. You ARE on new baseband now and can flash any rom for new bb and it will work.
Note:All info above may or may not be entirely correct. Its just how i think it works.:good:
