So I bought a used Droid X2 off Craigslist for a pretty good price, the phone was still new looking. The previous owner had a Zagg shield installed but it looked like crap, whoever installed it did not do a good job.
I took the phone to a local electronics retailer, I won't mention the name, but it rhymes with "pest pie". So I paid $30 to have a new Zagg installed in store, just because I wanted it done perfectly. Well the employee somehow wound up getting the liquid solution in the buttons at the bottom of my phone. So much solution that it began to pool underneath the screen!
Needless to say my phone was ruined, and after consulting with the manager, I was given a brand new Droid X2 and a refund for the Zagg. This was cool, except they wouldn't give me a receipt for the new phone, or the box, or the manuals, or anything but the phone itself. I have all of that stuff already, but now my new phone's MEID number doesn't match what's on the box. Might seem fishy to someone if I try to sell the phone. Oh well. I got a brand new phone for the price of a used one, guess I lucked out.
But I'm never buying any type of screen protector that uses liquid solution ever again!

Don't fault Zagg. I've been using invisishields for a good while now and get a fresh replacement every few months (my phones get beat up, and the protector eventually gets dirty but works amazingly.) Anyone even reading the directions knows not to soak the damn thing. I've had liquid get in buttons, the earpiece, mic, etc. Never a problem. Considering the screens are generally decently sealed, the phone you had was busted, or the guy put way too much pressure in it. Common sense also dictates soaking up excess when it gets to the edge of the protector, and forcing it away from things like buttons, mics, and earpieces.
Sadly your troubles turned you off of a product whose worth easily exceeds its price. Good luck in future endeavours.
Look into ghost armor, it is a MUCH better product than zagg
Ghost Armor is far from being better than ZAGG. I have used Ghost Armor for years and it ALWAYS ends up peeling and turning brown/falling off. ZAGG is far superior.
As for the install, just do it yourself, they are easy to do and then you do not have to worry about some teenager at BB installing it. I cover everything with ZAGG now, and install them all myself. Have no complaints at all.

The installations I have had have been perfect
As far as I know, zag does not offer matte finish, so unless you want a shiny x2, be my guest.
I have also found the ghost armor to be much better on the screen. You fingers slide around easily and it doesn't attract oils as much. I HATED the stickiness of the zag plastic.

I've always hated zagg, or any screen protector thats similar (ticked out, zagg, ghost, etc.) They always have a rainbow multi-colored gloss underneath that annoys the hell out of me, plus it's rubbery texture does not make me feel well... makes me feel like I'm scratching a chalk board.
I've used Invisible Shields on all my touch-screen devices for years, but they're a bit expensive. On my X2 I tried one of the Skinomi screen protectors, and I like it better than the IS. Plus, it was only $11.99 and had free 2-day shipping.
It has a much smoother texture than the IS, and it never feels tacky.
YMMV.
I bet you guys buy monster cables too.
I use this and have 0 complaints about it. Applied in less than a minute, fits perfectly, and you can't even tell it's there.
My 2¢ FWIW, the X2 uses gorilla glass so screen protectors aren't even needed. Now if it didn't use gorilla glass, I probably would put a screen protector on it. But it does so they're pointless in my eyes.

Why is it "so called"? It's not so called, it is called gorilla glass. And rightly so is it called gorilla glass. The stuff is so tough that if you did something bad enough to break or scratch it, it's gotta be so bad that even a screen protector won't help.
2 years old and my OG droid has a perfect screen, never had a protector. I credit the glass. First thing I checked out when scoping the x2 was that it used the same material.
If you want to buy an expensive sticker, then by all means do so, but before you do why not do a little research on gorilla glass first; you just may see my point and save some money in the process.
Sent from my DROID X2
i don't care what its called, who makes it, or what it "theoretically" handles as far as scratches and the like. any glass/plastic can and will take damage, especially over time. Sure, "Gorilla Glass" may be stronger and more dense, but it doesn't by any means make it impervious to damage, and whatever you slap on the screen will help a little, to a good deal. In my own experience, my Invisishield has proved more than worth its $25 price (max coverage for this guy.) Counting work, i do things that mean my phone may pop out of my pocket, or i may drop it on concrete and the like. The Shield on my Incredible handled at least 2 drops at day, sometimes from 4-6ft up, and that thing didn't even have anything special for the top cover (aka screen as people say, although it is just a piece of plastic covering the top of the phone/screen.) It only has dings on the top edge that wasn't protected. Some of the better screen protectors can prevent, or lessen the effects of, cracks due to them adhering to the cover/"screen" because it doesn't allow as much leway for the separation cracking causes.
For some people, its superfluous and they feel fine not having anything, some like a cheap add-on for peace-of-mind, others prefer or need that extra protection the offerings from the likes of Zagg offer. They're not useless, but you're average joe doens't exactly need the more expensive type. And no, cases aren't always a viable solution. Extra bulk on a decently large phone doesn't help my pocket space, and money and things tend to stick to them (at times, to my Shield also i'll admit.)
I thought about ignoring that last post but I couldn't let it go.
This isn't a product in "theory" as you put it. I think you need a vocabulary lesson. It's real, backed up by data. Corning is the leading manufacture of high tech glass and their products work. They designed and manufactured the shuttle windows, a wide range of aerospace and airplane technologies and there is nothing theoretical about what their products do.
At the end of my post I said if you want to buy a screen protector, then go ahead. But do some reading first, educate yourself, make an informed decision.
You don't put ACE Hardware clear coat on a Ferrari. Well, maybe some people do but that doesn't make them geniuses.

Lab tests/data are alot different than real-world usage data. The point is, the stuff can and will get scratches, chips, and cracks. That is a fact as you like to tell people to reference. Don't go after me based on you missing or ignoring my point that the Gorilla Glass on our, and other, devices will scratch. Not everyone can baby their phone all the time, and some of us have jobs or do activities that can cause things to happen to the phone that will scratch it. Also note its not advertised as scratch-proof, but scratch-resistant, so the company itself says it'll scratch, but yes it'll take more than many other materials that have been used on phones and the like previously.
I never said it was scratch proof or shatter proof. Only that in my experience anything that will scratch or break the GG, 90% of the time it's going to happen even with a screen protector. So my opinion is they're a waste of money.

So, I was looking through this thread and I was thinking, "Why would anyone put that crap on Gorilla Glass?" Then, someone finally spoke up about it and someone who has no idea what Gorilla Glass is or how it is made is actually trolling? I've seen phones using Gorilla Glass shot with air-powered pellet guns and not have a scratch. Sure, the stuff isn't indestructable, but if you actually manage to shatter it, the rest of your phone is probably in pieces, too.
Google is free to use. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't use a search engine before mounting such a weak argument against Gorilla Glass. Sheesh!
any form of glass is prone to some degree of scratch
but i went with a matte screen protector more or less because i hate the feeling and cleaning process of any form of glass screen gorilla or not.
heck i got it from the Verizon store to, i would've expected that to mean the quality was terrible (then again anything's better than a gorilla grabbing your finger every time you try to glide across the screen)
but nope i <3 my matte screen protector
what made the 15$ for 3 even more worth it, was having the verizon employee apply it. the one they went to apply had a nasty obvious scratch at the bottom of it and they tried rubbing it off repeatedly and got nervous when i looked at them because i could've asked for a new pack

You don't need a $20 screen protector. Even the very cheapest clear screen protectors will work just fine. But you should definitely buy one unless you enjoy risking the screen being scratched.
Never had one on my EVO and I will never have one on my E3D. My EVO screen is in perfect condition. It really depends on how well you take care of your stuff. For me its a no.
I already have the Zagg on my EVO 3D screen and platinum case on it since yesterday. I have a 4 year old who loves to play with my phone. It's a must for me and it has saved me a couple of times. I replaced mine 2x from him messing with it. When i sold it yesterday, the screen was flawless.. It's just like big Zone said, it's how well you take care of it.
I never had one on my Evo. By the end, I had dropped it a couple of times, carried it in my pocket, etc, and it came out with only minor surface scratches that could only be seen in direct sunlight. So I won't be putting on on my 3D.
ive never had a screen protector on any of my recent phones.evo 4g, arrive, nexus s and now not evo 3d. But an employee at my store somehow managed to get a decent scratch dead in the middle of his. not sure how he thinks he had it in his pocket with a lighter. and he takes care of his stuff. so it is possible
i build scaffolding in a paper mill so a screen protector is a must for me as well as a defender case. i cant tell you how many times a screen protector has saved me from scratches.
You can get great deals on ebay...like 2 dollars for 6 of them.
Of course you need them. It never hurts to have it on there, have had them on all my phones. The one i have now has a couple scratches on it....i know the protectors are weaker than the screen glass but for two dollars why not slap one on there?
I posted an email from HTC in another post about Gorilla Glass.
It's not listed on Corning's site, and HTC says that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
Some people say that the email is wrong, but without anyone actually saying there is GG in the phone, I'm assuming that it doesn't have it.
Dear [name],
I appreciate your interest in some of new Android devices like the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. You were wondering about the availability of Gorilla glass in either of these new Android devices. Some of our devices come with screens made out of a proprietary formula of glass and some have Gorilla glass. Unfortunately, these devices are not in the list for Gorilla glass.
If you need any further assistance, you are welcome to send another inquiry through the HTC website by going through the Support page (http://www.htc.com/us/support) then tapping ‘send us an email’. You should input all the necessary information requested on the page.

I know some people will argue it, but without anyone actually saying that it does (other than some review or another forum), I don't believe it.
So yes, a screen protector is a good idea. Even if you never need it, it's cheap and it's always nice to have just in-case something does happen.
Thunderbolt had gorilla glass and it scratched super easy. I would imagine just like anything, there are different qualities to gorilla glass. For instance HTC could have cut a deal for a lesser product for cheaper money.
I normally take care of my devices, never really had an issue, except 1 time I was careless and a tape gun thing went flying out of my hand(no idea how) and the blade smacked dead on the screen of my evo. It made a little bubble on my zagg shield, but I still think it would have put a nice big scratch on the screen itself. Just for the occasional f'up, i'm going to be getting a screen protector.
I have screen protectors. The first week I had my Evo 4G I was using the Sprint screen protector. The screen got several little scratches where the screen protector doesn't cover. I bought a full cover shortly after that.
I would carry my phone in my front pocket.
IMO, No 10char

You don't know that. Most anything strong enough to scratch a full glass screen can peel off a screen cover while doing so.
I rarely use Screen protectors - but.. since i'm always an earlier adopter for the latest and greatest phones (yes, i did own and iphone4 at one point) friends and family always take it away from me and mess around. I'll keep a cheap protector on it for a couple months then remove it - and go naked.

$20? I really must start selling screen protectors to you if you are willing to pay that! They only cost about 20 cents in bulk, so some of these sellers have quite a markup! That said, I do think some of the places like Steinheil have a premium product.
Let me ask you this, have you ever seen an iPhone with a scratched screen? Those have gorilla glass too. It does scratch.
I have a clarvue screen protector on right now. Even though I take good care of my phone, a screen protector is cheap insurance. You can't even tell it is on.

no screen protector needed. You can literally take a razor to the screen and it will be fine. It takes a ton of force and something very very tough to scratch the screen. I do run a protector but not to protect but to give a matte finish which works wonders in sunlight and also makes your finger just glide across the screen. The Otter Box Defender has the perfect material screen built in for this.
Hi all it's me again lol. I wanted to know your guys' recommendations for screen protectors for our wonderful device. Personally i don't use anything
If you get the anti-glare ones from Verizon, they definitely help. It gives you a matte look and also takes away some of the "prettiness" of the screen. I bought some because my daughter was making my screen filthy, but ended up taking it off.
I bought some Vizio screen cleaner at Walmart and use it every morning. It's supposed to protect as well as clean, and I've noticed a difference in the amount of smudges everyday.
I use the built in screen protector that came with my otterbox defender. LOVE IT!!!
i got the only matte one they offered in the Verizon store
despite a big ugly gouge at the bottom-left that i could have complained about when the employee put it on it's super awesome
if it takes from the prettiness of the screen, then my eyes are in ruins.
honestly if you've ever applied a slight blur filter to really colorful objects(aka ANIME LIKE), then you'd see it actually does favor
that and, no-1 likes to clean smudges/have their finger get caught when trying to drag across the screen, really annoying, good riddance smudges + glass finger hold
I bought some 3 pack on amazon for $0.69. Seems to work as good as the $10 ones at the store.
I Use ZAGG, Lifetime Guarantee/Warranty. The Only Thing It Costs You For A Replacement Is An Envelope And Stamp. You Can Get One For $24.99 Straight From ZAGG.

+1 To Being Lazy.
I'm on the fence with the whole screen protector thing, too ...
I put a ZAGG on my old HTC HD2 Leo, and had one of the mall kiosk guys put one on my wife's Incredible, but I couldn't get over the change in tactile feel and (what I perceived as) the loss in sharpness.
I dropped my DX2 for the first time last night and thank God it was in a decent case. The phone was unmolested - as was the case (a Yoobao plastic/rubber number that fits over the super extended battery) - but I practically had a coronary. I can only imagine if something had hit the screen on the way down to the concrete ...
Does anyone have personal experience with a screen protector actually protecting the screen from impact? Or do they more or less prevent some of those niggling scratches that inevitably plague the screen over time?

I happened to read the separate thread on ZAGG, which really provided for mixed reviews.
I hate any kind of unnecessary distortion, so I'm a bit reluctant to try another screen protector - especially if the protection provided is minimal.
Someone did mention the Zeinheil Crystal protector, which seems to strike a better balance between scratch protection and clarity preservation. Apparently, these are available in a 3-pack off Amazon for $14.99.
Something to think about, in any case ...

That's Right, I Used ZAGG On My OG And I Dropped It Screen Down On The Pavement And Nothing Got Broken Or Scratched. Only Reason I Have It Now On My X2. Also I Have Never Encountered Any Distortion To Screen Color. No Matter What You Decide It's Cool. I Really Like The Lifetime Guarantee That It Came With. Screen protectors do protect from falls to a certain extent. I'm sure if it feel over 10ft and landed on the screen or a pointy piece of something it would crack.
One time I was running in Home Depot (lol) and my phone flew out of my pocket. It hit the floor and then, I unknowingly kicked it another 10 or so feet. It was screen down the whole time and had not a single scratch. I had one of those cheap Verizon ones on too.
Another time I was skateboarding..my phone fell out of my pocket and landed facedown. Thankfully I bailed in midair, so my board just missed it, but my heel did hit it. Luckily, I'm a hurdler, parkourist, and skateboarder so I landed mostly on my toes but I did lean back onto my heels and my screen was fine. That was without a protector.
Earlier this year, I think I threw my bookbag, and my keys scraped against my Droid's screen, it has a small shallow gash now. My phone was naked..no case no protector.
I'm looking at screen protectors right now. I decided to get the Otter Commuter case. Reviews say the included screen protector is terrible. So I'm getting a second one. I've look at a few. Moshin, Skinomi and invisibleSHIELD so far. I'm only getting a screen protector, not a whole-body cover.
I've heard some good reviews about invisibleSHIELD, but many say it gets dirty fairly quick. (Around the edges). Anyone have any first-hand experience? Any other recommendations?
Yes, I used it, and I hate it. With InvisibleShield, the screen doesn't feel as smooth as other screen protectors that I've used (PowerSupport USA, Belkin, Griffin, etc.) It seems to have a sticky feel to it when you're using the screen with IS.
I got a moshin for free from the atnt rep. Prob the easiest and cleanest protector I ever put on. It's antiglare, but has a nice finish.
Ill order two. I'll need to replace one eventually. Thanks.

the Moshi, at least the one I got at ATT, says you can peel it off, wash it and then reattach it to the phone. It even recommends cleaning it by taking it off the phone. I can't wait to see how that really goes...
Between my wife and myself, we've had InvisibleShields on iPhone, Cappy and HTC Aria. Both of us are happy with them. I will agree with a previous poster that they can get a slightly "sticky" feel to them, but I find they are much better, in terms of long term wear and consistency, than either the static or dry adhesive types. They clean up very nicely with LCD screen cleaner and a lint-free cloth.
As of early last week, Zagg didn't have IS available specifically for the ATT version of the SGS2, so I took the advice of a poster on another thread and bought a pair of Int'l SGS2 protectors from ArmorSuit for about 10% the price of the Zagg product (the paraphrased advice was "for wet-applied screen protectors, they are all the same, buy the cheapest one"). To this point they appear extremely similar to the IS, so I may stick with them.
Hope that helps...
I used invisible shield and body gaurdz, out of those 2 I like the body gaurdz the most.

All those "military grade" screen protector feels the same... lol
I've used it on my old iPhones. They are pretty useless, you lose the screen quality and the touch and feel of it.
They don't protect the screen at all, their warranties only cover the plastic not the screen so it's pointless. Only use for the covers is on the back of a phone since they get a lot of surface damage.
I would just get any type of cover and not waste 20+ on name brand military grade protectors.
i used a few different ones on the captivate. but i loved the Invishield one the most. i liked the more rubber texture and it is insanely tough. The same one has been on the phone for 2 years so far and it still looks great.
I hate them. They are crappy and they seem to lower the quality of the image of the screen. I can't stand the feel of them. The best one I've used so far were Realooks. I used that on my Captivate and my wifes HTC. After putting it on, the image quality stays the same and it doesn't look or feel like there is a protector on there. I don't plan on using one for this phone.
Just to add a little bit - no matter what you put over your screen, you are going to impact your image quality some - whether or not it is noticeable to you is a matter of several factors:
a) quality of the screen protector
b) how well it was installed
c) how much damage/scratching/smudging is on the protector
d) how attuned the user is to image quality
Personally, I find wet mount protectors much easier to install in a high quality manner and get less bubbles/loss of clarity compared to dry mount protectors.
This military shield thing I got cheap installed very nicely, and after a day of it being on and the microbubbles working out, I personally notice minimal impact on image quality.
I work at asphalt plants (a very dusty and dirty environment with numerous hazards to phones) so I am uncomfortable with not protecting my screens. I would rather have something damage a $20 (or $2 in my current case) plastic screen protector that is easily replaceable than damage the glass of my $550 device. In fact, I once had the Aria in my pocket when an asphalt sample container I was carrying broke open, spilling 330 degree hot mix asphalt all over my side and into the pocket with the phone. After digging the asphalt out of my pocket along with the phone (yeah, it was toasty and I was in a hurry ) I picked all the rocks and sand off the phone (which was also in a silicone sleeve type case) and cleaned it up with a little of the solvent we use. No permanent damage. I'll stick to screen protectors....
I decided to order the skinomi protectors. I'll see how they are. It is a wet application, so I hope everything goes well.

That is incorrect. Go get a zagg invisibleshield, and then put it on. they go on easy, and in return they degrade easier.
If you live near a mall with a Ghost Armor installation location, GO THERE. Their(as well as zaggs) prices are are steeper than your average 3pack for $12, but they install it for you.
I used invisibleshield/body guardz for 2 years before these guys put them out of business in my local mall. Their material is the same, EXCEPT it is thinner and MUCH MUCH MUCH more natural feeling. It does not feel grippy, and it is still extremely protective. The only thing is that your screen will look like crap for about a day. after that day, it should clear up and you'll hardly even notice the orange peel effect that zagg's have so much of.

I have used iShield before on my iPhone; but prefer the hard screen shields as they are less "sticky" for swiping with the fingers like the one that came with the TPU case for my SGS2. I find that the soft ones with the solution spray is more sticky for some reason maybe for grip as some do wrap the whole phone with iShield.

Try looking for scratched Gorilla Glass. It's all over the web. I had the Bionic for two weeks and scratched the corner. I was very careful with that phone because I knew there was a chance I was going to return it. I have no idea what caused it and don't want it on my new phone.
I have read about the special coating that might be on it to make it easier to clean, maybe that's what's scratched. Either way, it's a scratch.
Its sand or grit in your pocket that does for gorilla glass, not the coin and keys.
Why you don't like skinomi?
i found theìr screen protectors absolutely invisible and even fun to apply!
If you can't find any RAZR screen protector, buy one for iPad or for Galaxy Tab, or anyway something BIG, then cut it for your phone and apply
Anyway, it's true, I've scratched my SGS2's Gorilla Glass. It isn't scratch proof. I've scratched it without SAND or DIAMONDS, it has been scratched passing on my metal "buttons" of my jeans'pocket.
It's only marketing.
SGP is now selling screen protectors for the Razr.

I ordered one from Skinomi on Nov 4, they gave me a tracking number on Nov 5, and the status has been "The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on November 05, 2011 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date." ever since. I was kinda hoping I'd have it before I got the phone... bah.
So I'm just being super careful until I get the skin. I have a Skinomi on my iPod Touch and it is just great. ZAGG on my DInc, but I prefer the feel of the Skinomi.
Had a skinomi on my epic 4g touch but took it off. It just seems like it takes away from the brightness of the phones display. I agree though that its a better feel than the invisishield.

So I decided to got without a screen protector or a case for the first time on any smartphone I've owned. It's been over a month and my Razr is flawless. I get a lot of oohs and aahs over it also. It really is too slick looking to want to cover it up.
Can I go 19 more months? Don't know. I guess we'll see if someone unlocks this damn thing. Maybe I won't have to worry about scratching it. If I can't throw some ROMs at it, I'll probably have to get rid of it..

Personally, I think screen protectors are overrated and not needed......unless, however you are very prone to bumping, dropping, rubbing your phone up against surfaces.
They dull your screen and diminish the quality as well...it's a downgrade as far as I'm concerned.
Go without the screen protector as you'll be much happier.......unless you fall under my description. LOL
I've never used a screen protector and for the first time got a case...the Cimo S-Line soft case.
I think I'll go for ZAGG
I don't reckomend the ZAGG invisible shield, it is wothless.
The screenprotector is very badley cut so it is mor than 5mm to short in both directions! + it does look pretty ugly around the speaker. It truley suck.
does the tp have gorilla glass or not ??
and any recomendation for screen garder
Some reviews say it does in fact have gorilla glass...
While I don't think its anywhere on HP website or gorilla glass support website...
Id get a screen protector anyways gorilla glass is somewhat a gimmick as all glass is easy to scrach and break... Gorilla glass is just a marketing tool imo and have scrached a few in my life
I only had my touchpad for a few days now and I bought a screen protector from Walmart (designed for the touchpad)
Forgot the name ill post it in a few mins...
The general consensus around the net is that it does, many reputable reviewers remark on it having gorilla glass, however these mostly consist of reviews done with pre-launch units that may be different in some regards to the mass-production touchpads.
I dont think HP nor Corning have officially stated that it has, my guess is that some touchpads may have it and others have similar glass.
At any rate, I tried out a screen protector for mine and ended up taking it off 10 minutes later due to a distinct difference in responsiveness and feel. I may have just got unlucky with a cheap one, and your generally better off with a screen protector anyhow
I got a Griffin from Walmart... its alot better than any other screen protector I've used...
And I've used alot on phones and my old ipad
I bruyant a screen protecteur of ipad and resize it
Thank you
I'm going with "not". My Nook Color, which has never seen a screen protector, remains scratch free after nearly a year and 5 kids abusing it. Within the first month, the kids managed to put a 1" scratch across the middle of the Touchpad. I've since bought screen protectors for it from Amazon.
Gorilla glass is just tough against shocks.... not scratches

Whatever is on it, I have never felt a more slippery device in my life. Both front and back of this thing seem like they exude a lubricating oil that makes it impossible to remain in your hands or be fingerprint-free.
Absolutely crazy.

The actual glass part is coated by HP with a clear solution making it easy to wipe the screen with any cloth, no liquids necessary. It is always so shiny and clean after I do a small wipe. I do also think it is Gorilla Glass, take a razor and try to scratch it . Then again, it IS glass .
