Hi all,
I've seen several questions without too many answers regards native sip use on the s2.
I've just purchased my s2 today and am totally lost with where to start to get native sip working.
I have had nokias for years and sip has been very easy and good.
I am not familiar with what appears needs for ROM apps prior to use of the native sip.
Could someone PLEASE outline the most up to date method of using native sip from a new phone perspective.
thanks
Hello,
Using the native sip client is pretty simple and, IMO, similar to what I have on my Nokia Phone. Here is what I did :
- configure SIP account
- chose option to chose between SIP or gsm on each call.
- call contact and when asked about SIP or gsm, choose SIP.
But there is an issue with native SIP calls using wrong microphone, see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109962

Hi and thank you for getting back.
I have read on this and other forums that Samsung galaxy s2 has intentlly left out the SIP option access on the phone.
I presume you have another phone type?
Apparently the gingerbread system has what you outline, but I've not got this option on my Samsung Galaxy 2s?
@gearo : I am using the Cognition ROM, which unlocks the SIP native client on my S2 (and also gives it a much better battery life ...)
Thank you very much for getting back as this looks like a "one fix" that I was looking for.
Cognition ROM?
I've read a bit about these ROM's.
Can't find summaries of what ones do what etc and the pro's n con's of each.
Is there such a thing?
If Cognition ROM fits my required bill given that apart from not having a native voip,( I thought I'd be happy to "play" with the stock phone), where am i able to get simple instruction on flashing the phone with the Cognition rom.?
Hi Gearo,
Sorry I don't know if there's like a "comparation table" for all the different GS II roms.
To install the Cognition ROM you first have to install the CWM tool. I did it by installing the ChainFire (CF-Root) kernel. Here is an easy guide to install CF-Root : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126522 .
Then just put the Cognition zipped ROM on your phone and reboot in CWM mode.
About your PM question : sorry again, I haven't heard any news about a fix for the receiving end volume ... imo this makes calling with the native android sip client pretty useless ... you'd better be using csipsimple as they recommand in the SIP thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109962
Same problem for me:
The steps seems clear to have native voip SIP client io ICS but.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592890
but is there any cooked rom?
Thanks!
native voip
I'm now using "paranoidandroid" (acka old D4) ROM.
Has native voip installed and does work !
I've done side by side comparisons with Csipsimple and the latter is by far better call quality including reception, echo, volume and clarity.... even on the standard csip settings.
I've gone looking for how to change codecs with the native installer but no luck... then again, csip simple still better with the standard codecs , even discounting G729 etc.
be pleased if anyone can get native working well as the csipsimple is STILL NOT AS GOOD AS MY OLD Nokia. humph !
I'm using resurection and the problem for me was that I didn't find the new configuration window place. Now is not in the regular call option insted is in the call menu (just the menu used press the numbers for the regular calls),... properties and then, the option to send and recevie voip calls. Native client have better quality for me but more battery consumtion to receive calls than CSIPsimple

Did you find any fine tune settings such as codec setup etc as well as the obvious account settings?
What is a good free SIP provider to use with the native option ?
How can I get native SIP with CM9.1?

Hello,
is there a way (software or setting) to configure my Wallaby (with PPC2002 or WM2003) that any incoming sms is forwarded to a defined number?
Thanks for any answer
Best regards
nobody an idea how to do that?
wallaby is the first htc phone out and a pretty dead device
I would
1 use search and look in the forum search for any info about forward calls
2 ask in another forum as forwarding of sms's would likely be a general wm thing rather then a spec wallaby thing
Hello Rudegar,
thanks for your answer.
The forwarding of calls is not really a problem.
But the forwarding of sms is one!
I have found some programs that can do automatic sms forwarding, but the problem is that they don't work with WM2003 or PPC2002 (the two OS for Wallaby).
Now i'm searching for a program that works on WM2003 or PPC2002!
I know that this device is very old, but i only want that this device forwards my calls and sms! So this device would be the whole time in the cradle. And i would use another device "Samsung Omnia" for working with it. So i think it would be a little bit to expensive to buy a new device only for being in the cradle and forwarding sms and calls!
I hope you know what i mean!
Best regards
Andy
i've not seen any .net sdk code that can handle sms for wm02/3, just the pocketoutlook for wm5/6.
i could be missing it, but goodchance you're going to be out of luck.

I'm off topic - or device - here, I use HTC touch Pro and Treo Pro, so i would appreciate if you know anything that runs on WM6, 6.1 or 6.5 that does this well. I DLed a trial of txtForward, it doesnt seem to work.

I bought txtForward. It forwards incoming text messages (with an option for outgoing as well) to an email address. So, since all my "phones" have at least exchange/active sync support, i get my text messages delivered to my email that i am always connected to. Good enough.
Hi.
I have a major issue woth SGS2.
I have to make calls from a earphone and a motorcycle helmet, also with no internet connection avaible.
So I bought Cyberon Voice Commander (Italian versione).
It works very well, but when i press the button on the earphone, it starts the stock samsung voice recognition software, whic requires internet connection and doesn't work very well.
I can't associate eraphone button with cyberon.
I have contacted Cyberon, the answered:
"Here I'm sorry to inform you that we found on Samsung Galaxy S II, the Bluetooth handsfree profile (for voice dialing) was not implemented as Android's standard definition. Thus when user presses the BT button, only built-in voice recognition app will be launched automatically. We're really sorry for the inconvenience. Before Samsung fix this issue (if they will), if you'd like a refund please send us your order number. Thanks for your understanding in advance!"
Is there a way to remove samsung stock voice recognition software and associate cyberon with earphone and possibly also with home double click?
I am very unhappy by now!
Thanks!
FIXED!
I have found a fix!!
* Root your device
* Set google as default voice recognition instead of vlingo in settings>voice recognition (not sure this is important to do)
* Install Titanium backup (i Have paid full version, but probably you can use free
* Disable "comandi vocali" (Italy) which in english should be like "voice commands"
* Than I have cancelled the BR pairing, restarted the phone and paired BT again...
* Set Cyberon to use long press bt button to start
IT WORKS!!
What about same fix but without root?
I also need fix to disable standard Voice Talk and use Cyberon Voice Speed Dial.
It was worked fine before KE7 firmware was released
I believe it's hard
I think it's hard disabling built-in voice commands without rooting.
Also the "tasker" metod I used before needs the kill process with rooting rights option to kill voice command process and run cyberon.
Cyanogenmod for samsung galaxy s2 is quite ready and it will not have samsung apps anymore, but I guess you won't install it since you won't routing.
My personal consideration is that with every kind of device you can't expect it to do everything you whish unless you work "hard" on it.
I have choosen an open platform like android because is very simple to root and you can always chose an alternative rom to make the phone exactly as you whish.
I understand that sometimes custom rom could helps you. But I really like factory rom on SGS2, no freezes, very fast. I really see no reason to flash home cooked rom's and after that scream on each forum , that something doesn't work
Anyway, with prev. firmware everything was okay, but not with new one. And I really hope that this can be fixed without rooting.
Yes. I think you're right. I'll switch to a custom rom only when it will be really stable and fast.. I have messed up with custom rom for years on WM, now I want a little relax!
But rooting is not a custom rom.. my rom is the latest leaked from samsung (android 2.3.4), than I rooted and disabled build in voice recognition to enable Cyberon. The rom is still the original. Also now I can make full backups of the entire rom in case of corruptiom, failure or something other. Anyway noone is forced to think rooting is better. I hope Samsung will fix voice command incompatibility for anyone!

So as I can see there is no fix yet available even with latest leaked firmware?> That sad!
Latest leaked
Well. I can't assure you latest firmware doesn't fix it.
I think it doesn't fix, but I used the modified version of the firmware that doesn't require formatting, so build in voice recognition was already disabled.
Someone should try e clean install of latest firmware 2.3.4 and than install cyberon to see what happen..
For now I'm happy this way.
I just switched from Tmobile (MyTouch 3G Slide) to the Verizon Thunderbolt.
I REALLY REALLY miss the Hand-Free (Texting) ability from the MyTouch...
Is there anyways to get the Hand-Free ported from the MyTouch to the Thunderbolt?
(I tried Vingo, I don't like its. And it didn't seem to Read Incoming SMS)
Just download handcent SMS.
Sent from my rooted T-bolt using my fingers!
Its not just the lack of HandsFree Texting on the Thunderbolt.. Its the Call Announcing through Bluetooth, and other features within the HandFree app on the myTouch...
I don't want a Third-Party Messaging app, when the one within Android works just fine.

Well Maybe you should be laughing at yourself for being douchie, because the HANDS-FREE Feature from the MyTouch is not built into the SMS App. Its a whole different app. If I'm not mistaken its apart of the Genius Button; Because its Activated by pressing the G-Button>Menu>Hand-Free
So think, then type, then think again before hitting POST
→ Me laughing at myself.
The feature you wanted was specifically built/integrated for the phone in question (through proprietary means) and was not built by HTC. That is why it's not in every HTC phone and why you won't have it on the Thunderbolt without additional software you claim you can't stand.
"Genius" is a custom voice command and text-to-speech system powered by Dragon Dictation technologies. The button replaces, and is in the location of, the Search button previously on the myTouch 3G.

Properly built third party software is as good as anything that comes on the phone or better and has the same means/access to build their apps as the OEM.
I've been using Voice Control Full and I think you might like it. Check it out from your Android phone:

*Note: Tap the Market icon in the Complete action screen that appears after you tap the link above.
Try the free version first.

Wow. And we wonder why everyone eryone is leaving xda... You ask for an app that does what your last phone does, someone suggests a viable alternative w and you call him a douche.
I guess welcome to the Thunderbolt forums... :-(

Yeah, I mean I don't understand what the OP wants and thus is a pretty useless thread. He knows our phone lacks a certain feature that he seems pretty passionate about having, but yet says the SMS on the phone works fine and does not want a third party alternative (despite the feature on his old phone technically being a third party feature, just one that came with it and porting it would be the same as installing something in the market).
I would recommend using a keyboard that has voice control in it like swype (and there's some others), but I wouldn't to look too "douchie" by recommending third party apps to the OP.
Apparently No one seems to get the Idea here.
I don't want a second SMS Application such as Handset. I never asked for that.
I ASKED FOR the TEXT TO SPEECH application that is built into the MyTouch 3G Slide.
the HandsFree app from the MyTouch 3G support Voice Texting, Voice Calling, etc. When a new SMS Message arrive, the phone Announces the sender, and asked if I would like to read no, or later. Then after the application reads the TEXT, it give the option to REPLY, which can then be done through voice... So Never do you have to touch the phone while driving.
The appication from the MyTouch that handles all that has been the best HandFree application I've seen yet. And I've had nothing but Android phones since the Original G1.
I asked for that one application, because I figured with all the smart people on this site, they might have been able to extract it from the MyTouch at some point. The CM7 for the MyTouch has it. I've tried to look within the zip for the application (apk) that might be responsible for the HANDFREE app, but have yet to locate it.
So in the end, If I wanted to try one of the 30000000000 other SMS/Text Apps out there I would have asked for it. And technically I orginally never asked for a SMS Application. I asked for a HandFree (Speak-to-text, and vis versa)
Well here's my stab at it. Voice Control is proprietary software by Nuance (Dragon Dictation Technologies) meaning even if we did find the apk or were able to port it, it would be considered warez which is against the rules of XDA. All apps by Nuance are paid apps.
Nuance Voice Control Webpage: http://www.press-and-speak.com/PressAndSpeak/2338
Nuance and T-Mobile had an exclusive agreement to implement this software on the myTouch 3G/4G. I'm sure later on other devices will be supported. The only download they have for Android is the flexT9 keyboard for $4.99 . They seem to have all their apps available to the iPhone however.
However when I asked about alternatives, someone recommended Vlingo Virtual Assistant for reading SMS in the Android Market. Not sure if it has the same exact features as Voice Control, however its a close alternative.
EDIT: nevermind noticed you said you tried Vlingo. My bad
Edit 2: I know you said you did not want alternatives but Drivesafe.ly can read txts to you and the pro version let's you respond. I really don't think there are free alternatives for a fully featured app other than Vlingo.

Actually Vlingo does read incoming text messages. The feature is Safe Reader. Also has voice dialing and texting.
Oh and p.s. no need to be a **** to people offering assistance.

Hi guys.
My Motorola Milestone had a call button beside each contact on the stock Contacts app. The Xperia neo doesn't have such a thing (if I click on a contact, it takes me to a contact page where I must then click on the phone number to start the call).
I thought that button was standard on the Android Contacts app. Perhaps not. Anyway, is there a way I can have button like that on the neo? Perhaps installing an app or something...
You are correct, direct phone button is there when you are in Android default rom (like those in CM rom).
In my opinion, Sony make it much more beautiful, and convenient in integrate with facebook, twitter etc, but sucks in its original function - dial - and don't have T9 search which already found in many old phones, some will say there is a search there, but it can only search by name.
But still, you can install thirty party app, GO dialer, dialpad, etc, just search in Market.

All contacts app substitutes from the Market are flawed in something, and even the best are badly translated to portuguese.
Because it's so simple but useful I'd suppose someone had already added this functionality (call buttons on the contacts) on the regular app using... umm... maybe another app. I don't know, I'm just a user with a problem really, like most people.
clik on the contacts photo, a pop-up will come with call and text button.
Yes I noticed this problem with the Pro too, not intuitive at all, when I first tried to call someone I was stuck looking at their contact details with no way to know how to call someone, dam stupid! -1 for Sony for that!
i figured it out accidently on my Neo V.tap the caller image(even if it is not assigned) and you will find your solution.hope it works on Neo as well

Yeah it does, just tried it on my original Neo.
Hi there,
I'm looking for a possibility(software) to use voice commands (via bt headset) on my htc hd2.
Today I've received a new bt headset which "is able to call contacts from phonebook via voice commands".
And I really would like to do that... First push on the "magic button". nothing happens.
After some research and a phone call with the support hotline they told me that this function relies on the phone's possibility to perform voice commands.
google search "told" me, there is something like MS Voice Command (in german language), it "should" be built in since Version x-y... at least in the stock ones. (I'm not using the stock rom because the htc messenger app did brake the sms sync with exchange!)
After some additional research i found out that in the rom I'm using no voice command software is inbuilt. (Energy.Leo.21916.Sense2.5.GER.Cookie.2.0.Mar.21.7z), and the author isn't willing to change that. But in the same post he adviced people to install it via cab-files. And I'm searching for them!!!!
I haven't found a possibility to buy the german 1.6.2 Version (the latest I guess) nor to download...(lots of links, all of them are down)
But I did find a english 1.6.20771 one, it's installed, it's working with the bt-headset...
Is there any way to change the language to german?
Is there some other "good" software(which is still available, and has same functionality) to accomplish this?
Also I did have a look at the Artemis-ROM, which has the voice command functionality included...(cyberon voice speed dial)
but I'm not sure if it will brake the exchange-sms sync. ( to install this rom and test that, i will have to remove spl, install other spl, mess with radio etc... it's not a quick test...)
Is someone around already using the artemis-rom with an exchange-server and sms-sync working?
Any help to get this voice command thing working in german would be very very nice!
Kind regards
