I'm one to watch all the videos in landscape with the capacitive touch keys on the right side. Throughout the day I've been watching videos on youtube and found some to be really good but some to be eye straining..
I have a 3D vision setup at home so I do a lot of 3D gaming and I'm not bothered by 3D. Also, things are a lot easier when it's just depth and things aren't coming out at you.. your eyes aren't strained with just depth. Still people are different but this is what I've found and what I've found with others.
Anyways, it seems that depending on the video, the 3D effect is non-nauseating if you have it in the right orientation. I.E. sometimes the EVO 3D needs to be rotated with the soft keys on the left or right in landscape for it to work correctly.
For example, this Street Fighter IV video works a ton better with the soft keys on the left, with the soft keys on the right it's horrible. You can see the difference when they are fighting side by side, not when they are doing their intro or their super moves as that stuff has things coming off the screen that strain the eyes.

Now take this trailer of Alice in Wonderland.. The backgrounds cause my eye to strain when I have the EVO 3D oriented with the capacitive keys on the left, but it's perfect when they are on the right
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdGQJm_w1vA
It just seems the left and right image is flipped on some videos with no way to correct it, thus you are forced to hold it one way or the other in landscape
I don't see an option to flip left and right like I do on the YouTube browser app so maybe an update will come out so I can keep the orientation just in one way if they ever decide to put that in.
(I use Chrome to Phone to easily send 3D videos from YouTube to my EVO 3D and have it auto open in the YouTube app)
You are right..but what does it all mean?
Sent from that EVO3D Thingy...I need an asprin.
It means for some videos and for those having bad images, a flip of the phone can make it a lot nicer and easier to see.

Some videos have their left and right images reversed. Could be the way the video was rendered. That's why on the YouTube web app, there's a button to flip the left and right images so that the correct image can be seen by the correct eye. The NVIDIA 3D player has this option also. The mobile YouTube app does not currently.
I think the parallax barrier, which makes it so one eye sees one image and the other eye sees the other, for videos that have the images flip, confuse the brain as the wrong images are going to the specific eye.. Flipping the phone reverses the parallax barrier thus correcting the image to the correct eye for videos that are reversed.

If the two images are reversed, the eyes are getting the wrong image. Flip the phone, and you'll be getting the correct image for the right eye.

Two things I've found with the camera now with a few weeks of casual use - one, it produces blurred images unless i hold my breath and hold the thing as still as possible while it records the image. Even then it might have half the image clear and the other blurred, like its taking too long to poll all the pixels. It also seems to produce dark images even with the brighness setting on +2.0.
I have it set to take 3 mp images, on superfine quality, recording to the microdrive. Does anyone think any of these settings might be contributing to the problem? Maybe recording to memory and/or taking lower quality pics will fix the blurring (or half blurring) issues? I would hate to lower the quality.
Just curious what others have found as the best settings.
Ive tried so many different conbinations of settings and I almost always end up with a blurry picture, unless the lighting conditions are perfect and I mean perfect. If it's even slightly dark, or any form of artificial light, I get blurry images
i find the flash is useless n the device has to be resting on something and subject has too be still else it just dosent work!!!!!
If you get it right (and using the centre of the joystick as a camera shutter release button helps) then you can get some pretty decent lowlight shots.
Exposure is still horrible, but I've seen worse (universal was much worse than this).

I've already switched to using the joystick's OK button as the shutter release, after holding the camera button half-way to prefocus. I wish the regular OK button below the joystick would work since it has a shorter throw (therefore less chance of motion), but it appears the camera doesn't read that button. < rant > On a related note, I wish the browser button would be disabled while the camera is active, I've lost track of how many times I've pressed it while gripping the right side in order to press the camera button half-way. Then I have to close the browser, interrupting the photo session. < /rant >
I just switched to recording to memory and a few test shots under my desk where its dark appear to be clear, even when I wiggled the unit while taking the shot. I guess a few weeks more of use will determine if its a solution or not. If not, then I'll try moving the quality or size settings downward.
Still interested if anyone has found any "good" settings.
..using youtube to display their work? I made a video today using an app called 'Screencast', and from finding the app to posting the youtube link on XDA took less time than creating a display image. Not to mention the benefit of people seeing the work in motion!
I'm just curious really; as we have hundreds of pages of screenshots with very few videos. Screenshots don't capture transition animations, or selection highlights etc, when the phone is actually in use.
Here's my example so that you can see what i'm talking about:
http://youtu.be/nbjwQS3pDao
I'm only using a single core device so using the app does slow down the UI somewhat, but a dual core would be perfect for this.
They're either shy, don't like exposing themselves, can't be bothered, don't have a camera, just don't want to, etc. There's no one answer to this. It does allow more exposure and a better experience. Also allows more understanding (to the viewer) and other stuff which can help people since they are actually seeing everything in "realtime".
No camera needed. This app and others like it are for screen caps. No audio so it's not like a full blown video review. It's just showing off your homescreens and customizations but in moving pictures.
The same effect could be had by using a gif editor i suppose but you either have to start with a video anyway, or a bunch of screenshots. The method i've used is so simple and fast i'm just curious as to why more people aren't using it!
'Show of your homescreen' thread? Embed youtube demo.
Simples, no?
Yep, pretty simple. Maybe it's just not "advertised" enough. As in, people don't know of it. But more will now...
I must say the video is quite impressive and the app will definitely make the process easier, and could also be used to highlight certain issues members might be having.
Thanks for pointing it out.

I'm a self-confessed n00b, and that was my first youtube upload. (yeah, slow learner, right?) It took ten minutes from thinking of the possibility, to finding an app, making the vid, uploading it and then posting it!
With my skill set, or lack thereof, it takes me longer to come up with the usual 'display picture'. i.e:

All the best launchers like Launcher Pro or ADW EX have options for how to handle selection highlights. I always run into the nightmare of finding a set-up i like, only to end up hating it every time i select a shortcut! I can't be the only one? Static images don't show how people handle issues like that. ADW EX at least allows a fully transparent highlight so that you don't see it at all. Not all Launchers do though.
Perhaps it's only me, but when i see somebody's glorious creations, i think 'hah...how does it look when you click on that shortcut/widget..?? In a video you can see how!
So I've had a Galaxy 10.1 and now the transformer prime. While I wasn't able to compare them side by side, it seems like the readability of the galaxy was better. On the prime there seems to be some stray pixels around next making it hard to read. I've attached a screenshot. If you zoom in, you can see on every S, P, O, etc, a couple pixels illuminated below the letter. Is this what everyone is seeing?
Edit: In order to attach full size screenshot, I had to upload the png as a zip. So download and change extension to png.
Is it possible to upload a screenshot in the native resolution of the Prime? (1280x800) because in this tiny picture it isn't visible I guess.

Uploaded the PNG as a zip. Just change the extension when you download it.
Yeah, if you're trying to find out if the screen is bad...
Please take a picture of your screen.
A screenshot is only giving us what the s/w is displaying (that is, your shot shows nothing), you're asking about a display hardware issue.
*EDIT:
Here's his screenshot.
Looks no different than mine, except I use large font...

Ok, so I guess my question is changing...is the software dorked up and causing the problem? I'm guessing that everyone's will look similar to the problems that I'm seeing. Its just strange in that the reviews for the screen on the prime have been very complementary.
Are you just referring to the gray pixels at the bottoms of "curved" letters?
That's just going to be the choice in font and how it's handling rounding our corners using pixels.
Through the Prime's actual display it's not even noticeable, only through rasterized images like these... To me at least...
You'll definitely notice differences in text between a Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Honeycomb and a Prime running ICS. Google completely changed the system font in ICS and while I find text to be overall smoother in ICS, it does have some instances where it's not as "sharp" (due to the anti-aliasing they're using to make it look smoother).
It looks fine to me, try looking on a different computer and see if the issue is still present. My first prime had band of pink and green and even the screenshot i uploaded looked like what i was seeing however i was reading my post on my pc and there was no issue present. It was a gpu issue with my prime.
Take a picture with a camera thats what i did.
I've been trying to use the Panorama function on my Neo recently and I'm constantly coming up with issues with it. Basic issue is that its I'm not finding it easy to use at all.
I'm not a klutz with holding and moving the phone while pressing the button - I can do it at a constant speed and at a level altitude but I'm constantly coming across problems - either a message says "there is a grey area" in the photo or "pan the camera in the correct direction" - which I AM actually doing and then I've tried different speeds and changes in altitude as I pan but still I get an error message 95% of the time.
I've found some basic information on the following forums but not found any answers. A friend of mine has a Neo and he doesnt appear to have any problem so I'm going to look at his phone sometime and see if it works better than mine.
I've also been wondering if AutomateIT has been interfering with the camera while using pan but I've switched it off and still the main errors are either pan in the correct direction or grey area.
Any ideas?

http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/124763#26303
I've done some further experimentation and I've noticed the following
a) Wrong direction error occurs most often when altitude of camera is altered during pan
b) Holding the camera at arms length with elbows almost fully straightened and turning the body at the waist reduces the "pan in correct direction" error
c) Altering the radius (moving the camera towards or away from the body) during the turn does not create errors.
But still not sure what creates grey areas in photo.
i also found the panorama function very inappropriate.. though i still able to take picture from it with error of grey area. i edit the image with grey area.. usually on the right side of the pictures and keeps on clicking thing.
one thing i found out today was i took about 6 photos of panorama(all with grey area error) but only first image showed the thumbnails in the right.. then i thought it has stop taking the photos though the images were present in the gallery.
I haven't use the sweep panorama on my Neo, but this is what I've found using that function on my Sony DSC-H55 regarding grey areas.
It's a bit hard to explain but make sure that the camera plane is perfectly parallel with the curve of the sweep. Check to be sure that the left and right sides of the phone/camera are the same distance from the center of the pivot (you). In other words, make sure the camera lens is always pointing straight out from the pivot. If you suddenly twist the camera, then you end up cutting off the picture and getting a grey area where the photo-stiching software can't process data from the accelerometer.
It's not a great explaination, but I hope it helps.
Hit the Nail on head with that one!! But yet not as easy as it sounds!!!
Lol

It does take a little practice, yeah. The easiest way is to hold with both hands and turn your entire body if you're doing a horizontal sweep.
here a cropped grey area removed image which i took yesterday

But I joke you not, right before the camera settles and finishes its adjustments, I can quickly get a snapshot out that looks like this:
That's freakin amazing! How can I make it stay like that manually? I've been messing with the settings but nothing I do can duplicate it manually.
Is there a solution to this?
Bump
Still looking for a solution.
Its the camera focus, in first photo it focuses on ur tv, so it drops lighting from everything else to get a clear image of tv image, 2nd photo did not get chance to focus so there is no drop in lighting
This should be the reason

Is there any way to manually manipulate it before the shot to get the desired focus like in the second shot? Because I was in the dark and I think it's damn cool that it saw the surrounding area.
Any camera in auto mode would do this. One trick is to make in focus on something else. Point the camera how you want it but tap the wall in the image. This will tell the camera too focus there instead of the center. You can also shift the camera so it's point at something else, half press the shutter button, keep it half pressed, point the camera back to where you want it, then press the shutter button the rest of the way. Second method may cause the focus (not exposure, which controls the brightness) to be off.

Ah, now that makes sense. I wonder if there are any mod cameras out there that allow us to use manual focus. Hmmmmn.....

I'll have tried like 5 different camera apps and get the same results. At my daughter's swim practice, the sun sets behind the pool. If I focus, it takes a super dark photo and you can't even see her. So I have to focus on the concrete, and hit the button and instantly aim at the pool. Lol. Then everything is bright and crisp. It's weird. I too tried playing with every setting I could, with no luck.

Lol Well it's good to know I'm not alone in this . Guess we'll just have to make due.
It's auto exposure setting for the brightest object in the shot. It is NOT the focus. Focus = blur or no blur. Exposure = brightness. Use my suggestions and it should be much better. Any camera would do this in auto mode.
