Maps & Latitude Displaying Distance in Ki not Miles - Optimus One, P500, V General

I'm running mik's cm7 gb rom with built in kernel. In google maps and in latitude my distance is displayed in Ki not Miles. I can't seem to find a setting anywhere that lets you choose this.
I've looked through the build.prop at different location values and thought that might be the way to get this problem fixed.
I've tried manually adding entry for ro.product.locale.region= with "US" or "EN"
-These changes to fix the problem.
Does anyone out there have a surefire way to get this straightened out?
Thanks,
Kyle

If you select picture modes, it will offer you a selection, that shows a little gps / globe looking icon, if you go to that mode and it doesn't error out, then it should be working and print the geo-location information on either the picture or within the meta-data for use with other meta-data readers that help you to access and plot the data as you so desire. My GPS mode was failing on me and throwing an error, so my guess is that if you can avoid the error, then you are good to go
Hope this helps,
Bob
Thanks,
Actually I do get an error saying "can't initialize GPS service" (or something like that). Does anybody know if it's a problem in AP4?

It used to work in AP3
I got it working in AP3 by first letting VisualGPS or Google Maps get a satellite fix and only then starting the camera.
Haven't tried it in AP4 yet, though. Will report back on this.
Stock WM6 ROM was fine - AP4 does not work.
GPS Photo not working
I have the same problem when trying to take a gps photo, I too get the error can't initialize gps, I get a fix with google maps and tomtom before trying and still the same message!
If anyone does know how to fix this please let me know!
Its not only that. If I get a fix before starting the camera using IGO for that matter, then minimize IGO and starting the camera, after getting that error, IGO also losses the GPS settings, and I have to restart it.
any news
is the gps photo fixed yet?
How to Set GPS for camera?
I did once in older ROM, but after installing new ROM, it is not set. How can I set the GPS for camera? I really have forgotten.
Edit:
OK, I remeber. Just use Schaps Advanced Config Tool.
Edit 2:
Not working for me either. The same error as above. ALso after google maps or any other GPS app.
I can make photo-GPS with AP4 platinum ROM
Copy this file in Windows folder.
You must rename original file in Windows folder with other name ( for example gpsid_HTC.dll.old) before copy the new file.

"Dude Where's My Car" for WinMo 3-12-09

The other day I was at a football game where I had to park on a golf course far from the stadium and ended up wandering around for 20 minutes trying to locate the car afterward.
I knew that the iPhone had an app called "Dude, Where's My Car?" which let someone use GPS to tag a specific location and then later use Google Maps to guide them back to the GPS mark, but when I did some searching I couldn't find a WinMo version. So I made one.
This version isn't as sexy as the iPhone app, but it's free, and you can store up to 3 different locations and even name them if you'd like. When you want to locate one, you just click the respective Find button and you will be provided an arrow or compass direction (N, NW, S, SW, E, SE, W, NE) and approximate distance to your destination which will change as you continue to move.
I did some testing and got rid of whatever bugs I could find and everything seems to work. Since I find it useful to have, I wanted to pass it on to the community in case they might be interested as well.
If you find any problems with it, let me know, otherwise enjoy.
UPDATE 3
I finally got around to adding arrow guidance to accompany compass directions for finding a destination. The arrows are a bit finicky, but its partially due to the quality of the gps fix and the amount of fluctuation in the coordinates it gets. I find that the best way to work with it is to travel in one direction for a short distance steadily until a steady arrow appears. Once that happens, turn in the direction of the arrow and keep walking in the direction it had indicated until it changes to reflect the direction you turned. I.e. if you are walking straight and right arrow appears, turn right and keep walking straight until the right arrow changes to an up arrow.
I also updated the source code package for anyone interested in modifying the code. As before, I just ask that you keep its open nature going (GNU style) and if you post a new version of the software with arrows, or a better GPS interface (that uses triangulation as an option), etc. that you link the new software back to this thread and you let me know about it so I can check it out
UPDATE 2
As requested, I have attached the source code for the project developed with Visual Studio 08. It's not super clean since I put it together kind of rapidly, but it is decently commented. Anyone is welcome to modify this code and use it for your own personal development. Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions.
UPDATE
Attached a screenshot from my visual studio emulator. It should look the same as on the phone but with longer decimal values for the GPS coords.
Also attached the .cab files for the .NET framework that people were having issues with. I don't know if those will resolve the problems or not, but I developed the phone using the 3.5 compact framework. If you have that, a GPS chip on your phone, and WinMo 6 it should work for you.
Downloading, will try it and give you some feedback.
I'll try this out later. The compass feature is nice, something that nuePark doesn't have.
Thanks for pointing me to nuePark. I wish I had located it when I first did my searching, but then I wouldn't have created this. It looks like I unintentionally covered some peoples' requests for naming and multiple locations. Good times.
theres also an app called wm mini gps, or something along those lines. it will let you set a point, then navigate back to it later.
just my 2 cents
you can also do this in google maps.
The WM Mini GPS looks pretty cool. Google maps is ok, but only if you save it as a favorite. Not very good for temp stuff, and I'm not sure you can add a mark based on your current location (vs an address, which I know you can). I guess this app fuses the functionality and adds flexibility with naming and multiple spots. Thanks for pointing out both options.
bug in progam
smrtdrmmr thanx for the program but the prob is
immediately upon install my lil scroll wheel thingy (dont laugh) stop functioning normally instead of scrolling while browsing it activated the call volume function just like I had tapped the lil speaker icon....
That's really strange. It definitely didn't do that for me and I had to install/uninstall several times during the testing process. The installer is a generic project type based on the directions I got from MSDN. You might have some conflicting settings or something. Anyone else experience this?
This nice little utility works great on my Tilt. I'm gonna move this thread to Development and Hacking so it can have greater exposure for other devices.
Thanks
Tried it yesterday and it worked great!

I thought about using an arrow that rotates around, but because the phone's orientation can change relative to the compass direction I thought it might be kind of confusing (I.e. it points left so you turn left and start walking but it keeps pointing left because it wants you to travel West and you have rotated the phone).
It would be possible for me to track the direction that someone is traveling and adjust the arrow accordingly, but again, phone orientation could vary and it's just more complicated to deal with. The compass directions are fixed so it keeps things simple and generic no matter what way you are pointing your phone.

I haven't seen this before either so I did a little research and dug up this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-405749.html which then links here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2430410&postcount=390 I am not sure if this corresponds with my app or not, but you could check your registry setting and see if your problem matches the one described in the thread.

I press okay, the app started and i first tried to change for miles to kilometers, now the app crashes completly with a unexpected error (no luck today)
Hope this helps you finding the Bugs.

EzHero 5.1 GPS problem

I recently installed the EzHero 5.1 ROM. I'm having problems with GPS. Google Maps can't work out where I am, nor can Google Places or the built-in weather widget, and I even installed an app called GPSTest to be sure, and that too seems not to have any reading. So I'm pretty sure GPS is not working. I can see the little satellite icon flashing in the top bar from time to time, but my phone doesn't seem able to determine my location.
I've enabled GPS (and not network-based location) in Location, I've enabled location sharing in Privacy, and I've enabled handset location sharing in Settings on www DOT google DOT com.
Could this be a problem with the EzHero ROM? Should I try installing e.g. VillainROM 12? I tried searching the forum but can't even locate the thread where I downloaded the ROM from just last week any more (following the link from Google suggests the thread has been removed!?), let alone any more detailed information
Thanks for any pointers!
Well, I have now got GPS working. What a cool technology! I've changed two things:
1. Updated to the latest radio
2. Changed location -- am now in my house on the second floor, rather than on the eighth floor of my office building (both in central London).
I don't really understand why either of these would have any effect, and in terms of location, I'm pretty sure I tried using it outdoors and in other locations before. So could it have been the radio??
The weather widget still says it has no weather available. Oddly, though, the one thing that has known my location all along is the Weather Channel widget, and that works just fine....!

[Q] How can I reach exact coordinates on new Maps?

The old maps had a feature that if we searched coordinates on Google Maps app, we were taken to nearest street, but if we searched in format: [email protected],67.058318 we were taken to the exact pinpoint with a title Somelocation. Here Somelocation may be any text of our choice. Now this feature seems to be disappeared, and now when I search this coordinate, I am given a point on a nearest street, and by nearest, I mean something like 400 meters away! Yes, in a heavily populated area where one foot might change addresses, I am thrown this far. In Website, I can see both points, i.e exact location (green) and nearest (according to them) in red color. See following link for example:
https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&so...,67.058315&spn=0.009589,0.021136&z=16&iwloc=A
So, is there a new method or trick which may enable me to search exact location on my mobile?

[MOD] [XPOSED] [4.1 - 7.x] Fake My GPS [v3.2.1]

Introduction:
Fake My GPS allows you to select a custom GPS location that will be seen by apps of your choosing. This module simulates location using the device's built-in location providers and does not require the "mock locations" setting.
Possible uses for this module include:
-Setting your exact location in an area with poor satellite visibility.
-Increased privacy by not sending your exact location to apps that request it.
-Save battery life by reducing polling to the GPS radio.
-And more!
NOTE: You must enable location services to use this module. All location providers are supported (network, GPS, fused)
This module also requires Google Play Services for the maps engine and place picker.
Features:
App blacklisting support (don't send Fake GPS to specified apps)
Doesn't run in the background
Persistent notification message (option to disable it)
Place picker with full text search
Store up to 10 frequently used locations*
Customize map view for either normal, satellite, hybrid or terrain
Altitude faking**
Joystick overlay to simulate live movement in fake location
*You can add a favorite by long-pressing the address info card. Favorites can also be renamed by long-pressing on the favorite item in the list.
**Altitude is calculated using the selected GPS location's elevation data. Essentially, this sets your fake altitude to ground level relative to sea level) for that particular location.

Best fake GPS app I've ever used. But I have a problem, there is reboot loop problem. galaxy s5 g900f 4.4.2 . Thanks.
Nice module! :good:
I also seem to be getting a reboot loop on the Nexus 5 on my second reboot after enabling the module (first reboot was fine).
One suggestion: Would it be possible to have an option to emulate a real GPS's inaccuracy by shifting the reported coordinates around slightly inside a small cicular area around the set coordinate? Maybe also do the same for altitude by shifting the value by maybe 1-2 meters at most?
Posted an update with a fix for the reboot issue. Let me know if it works!
my bad, figured it out!

But I used pokemon and I thinh that was incorrect coordinates (I copy from google map. Ext 37.788898, -122.410667)
Idea to fake the GPS imprecisions

I think the best way to implement this is making a diff option!
In the moment a user chooses a spot in the map, "Fake my GPS" would read the instant GPS and wifi location values and calculate the latitude, longitude and altitude difference from the fake spot to the real one. After that the fake position would always be a difference between the real position to the values calculated!
I don't know how hard would it be to be implemented, but I can't think any other better way to really fake position (no apps would know the position is fake) because the GPS imprecision and variations would be real.
PS. No reboots on my Nexus 4, 5.1.1

For lat/long, I could see a variance option for a variance radius that takes a value in meters and then chooses a random spot each time the coordinates are updated, within the radius of the chosen point.
Oh, and I too can confirm that reboot loops are fixed. Thanks!

UPDATE:
Fake My GPS v2.0
CHANGELOG:
✓ Added joystick to simulate live movement in fake location
✓ Bug fixes and improvements
V2.0 doesn't seem to work for me. Using v1.5.2 again
EDIT: Just to clarify, the gps doesn't move in v2.0 as compared to v1.5.2 where it really locks to the correct place

If your device doesn't have an actual GPS fix, it may not report the correct faked location as this module works by replacing the high powered GPS location with coordinates that you specify.
I'm currently working on a way around this - possibly having it work without GPS being enabled, but for now the only way to accomplish location spoofing without using the mock provider is to replace an already fixed location.
Dear developer,
This tool almost works perfectly except when I use joystick to move around on a google map, it doesn't actually move, I have to switch out of the google map app, and switch back in to reflect the location change.
I am running cyanogenmod cm-12.1-20160918-NIGHTLY-trltetmo.zip on my galaxy note 4 t-mobile.
Could you please let me know if there is any solution to this?
Thanks!
EDIT: by the way, I have tried both enable and disable "allow mock locations", and use both "high accuracy" and "device only" GPS mode, no luck in any case.

Google Maps is tied to the Play Services location API, so you must make sure that Google Play Services is not excluded from location spoofing in order to fake your location in Google Maps.

Thank you for the response. If you mean don't exclude Google Play Services from the Fake My GPS app, then that is already set that way, I didn't check any apps in the exclusion list of the spoofing app.
Is there anything else that could go wrong?
Thanks.

The only other thing I can think of relates to one of my previous posts about needing a real GPS fix before spoofing can work. The spoofing actually replaces the real location it receives from the GPS radio so if there is no GPS fix, there is no updated location, and no faked location.
Make sure your device has an actual GPS fix before using spoofing features.
