The old maps had a feature that if we searched coordinates on Google Maps app, we were taken to nearest street, but if we searched in format: [email protected],67.058318 we were taken to the exact pinpoint with a title Somelocation. Here Somelocation may be any text of our choice. Now this feature seems to be disappeared, and now when I search this coordinate, I am given a point on a nearest street, and by nearest, I mean something like 400 meters away! Yes, in a heavily populated area where one foot might change addresses, I am thrown this far. In Website, I can see both points, i.e exact location (green) and nearest (according to them) in red color. See following link for example:
https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&so...,67.058315&spn=0.009589,0.021136&z=16&iwloc=A
So, is there a new method or trick which may enable me to search exact location on my mobile?

I have bought TomTom BT GPS & European Maps & it's pants!
Bad points :-
1. Even with several maps loaded on a 512mb sd it isn't possible to navigate from one country to another. I have to find the route on Autoroute, find the border crossing, then look for it on TomTom's map & set it as destination. Then open the other country and do the same to set as Departure! As I need to travel through up 4 countries a day, this gets to be a bit of a chore!
2. You can't plan route via somewhere, I want to use a particular stop-off but no way to do it unless you plan it in several parts.
3. Change to map view & it doesn't centre on your position! Duh?
4. Downloading maps off the 8 CD's (YES! 8!) is a total nightmare! Choose a disk, (they are not marked! Except disk #1-8 ) then say downlöad map of....Italy, remove disc and Quit insert Disk 5, insert disc 5 & choose Italy, do you want a 32, 64 or full map?, quess what? remove disc & quit. replace with disc 6. Then it asks every time what is the format, then it asks every time where you want to store it. It never remembers it as default!
5. Remove a map & you lose all your favourites
6. Try to find out how to get any accessories extension antenna, fixing magnets etc. on the web site and you'll find 'Jack****'
7. There is no way to see the street names in navigation view.
8. There are only very basic descriptions of signs in navigation view
(take direction -----)
9. At a lot of very obvious junctions on motorways it says keep left etc. then you come to a complicated junction in town & it says turn right when it should say bear left then turn right. Or worse still it says nothing at all!
10. The usual 'turn left in 200 metres' comes in on a straight stretch of motorway, or 'Turn around when possible' on a dead straight route.
These are a few of the negatives that I can remember. got to go now as I'm losing my connection. There's more..........
So does anyone know of an objective comparison between the various Navigation systems? TomTom, Kane etc.
Thanks guys! 600 Quid poorer & still having to use MS Autoroute along side TomTom! Grrrrrr!
Not exactly side by side comparison (well except for the Tomtom/Navman compare) but it has a few reviews of some others...

Olivier, Thanks for the info. but looking @ the details it seems the new version is still on 8 CD's! I think these TomTom people are spending too much of their time in the 'coffee shops'!
I'm also a bit miffed that even though the new version is on sale, we, the owners of version 2 won't even get the link to allow us to pay for the upgrade until mid April. On the earlier TomTom route-planner it had a facility to add an overlay, on which you would store all of your favourites, & extra info in a seperate file. The new versions seem to lose saved data every time you remove the sd card to change to another! Grrrrrr!
I have done some checking, too and would decide for Mobile Navigator 4 which will be available towards end of April.
Will us BT, you can use your fingers to navigate, voice, across all of western Europe, etc.
I have just purchased CoPolit in Australia - it ROCKS!
Hi,
I bought this product after checking out this site:
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/awards/category.asp?catid=43
CoPolite works a treat and is very accurate, intelligent and quick. You can do stuff like route planning, pull in addresses from outlook contacts, store an address in contacts when your actually at a location, find points of interest (like hotels, food, recreation etc, etc) ... and the list goes on.
Only down side - my Radio Stack is corrupt **every time** I use this software  ! Nothing that a hard reboot doesn't sort out  !!
(That's how I came to be apon this site.. I am trying to figure this out. )
Saw your post and thought I could add 2 cents (or pence)
Rgds,
Scott
Can you explain what you mean by " my radio stack is corrupt every time", how does this corruption manifest itself on screen, a corrupt radio stack would not be fixed by any number of hard or soft reboots. Which com port is the hardware/software. What message appears to let you know of this corruption etc. How have you managed to sort it out and use the naviagtion?
So i take it based on whats out, google NAV is the best GPS NAV app out there on this phone. Of course being free has alot to do with it, but I find a few features that it is lacking. Does Google nav have a way to search for waypoints,POI, save custom address, change alternate routes (fastest-shortest), day/night switching, map updates or any other hidden feature that i may have missed.
I know i'm asking too much for a free app, but its google..seems like they give away apps all the time.
If there is an app better, please also recommend
Day/night switching happens automatically.. Don't know what the threshold is, but I'd imagine it's based around sunrise/sunset times for your location. Other items on your list.. Not sure about.
I have to say Google Maps has done me a multitude of good since my first Android. I have watched the app develop as I used it and heres what I think...
Recently GM added multiple subapps to GM: Latitude, Maps, Navigation, and Places. Latitude allows you to share and view you and your friends locations. Can be really handy for some.
Maps is what it is....a mapping programs.
Navigate is my favorite. Clicl this and you can speak or type or choose from a saved address. Pretty nice too and you CAN choose route information and rerouting its pretty nice. Set your gps start and end....go drive and play with you phone on the Nav portion and youll find all the options. Plus multiple methods of getting to and from as well.
Places is basically POI layed out nicely anyone can quickly find whatever they need.
I swear by gmaps and wont do anything elzeq
On the first screen of Navigation, click on the "gear" icon at the top and you can choose "Avoid highways" and/or "Avoid tolls". Not earth shattering settings, but certainly a step in the right direction. I think this was around a couple of updates ago. I have CoPilot Live installed on my phone and I always go to Google Navigation when I need directions, especially where it's integrated into the system much better (navigating to contacts, address links, etc).
Thanks guys, this makes me like the google map even more..However I don't see why google made sub applications to work with G. maps...maybe they shoulda just made 1 application to do all the functionality instead of running map, nav, location, places, and whatever else they come up with..too many apps to run instead of being a feature that should be built as one..in my opinion
Not complaining just sharing my thoughts.
Just a guess, but I'd imagine separating is so the carriers can customize the basic Maps app, without having to worry about messing with the other advanced features.
Is there a offline navigation application that can take over as the default?
I tried several but when I click on( for example) the direction button on Yelp, only the default map application shows up under the 'Complete Action Using ' dialog
have you tried copilot? Works well for me but I have never tried yelp with it.
There is not really a good FREE one. The best one I've found is ALK the GoPilot Live. I've tried Sygic, and I don't like it (used the "free trial" version) and decided that CoPilot was cheaper and better.
There is another one out, NAVFREE, but wouldn't touch that one yet...They have the street I live on identified in the wrong town.
Garmin has one, but it's more like "guess we gotta make one for Android" mentality. I think there is much to be desired right now in their app. Tom-Tom also has one, but based on so many negative reviews in other forums, I never bothered to even try it....I think it's one of those "Love it or hate it" programs.
Your Online choices are (with a tethered phone for WiFi): Google Navigation, and WAZE. Even when running CoPilot, I usually run WAZE, because of it's social networking feature (it's route choices suck). Users on the road can report "active" situations - cops/accidents/heavy traffic/construction, etc. With that running, I can check periodically on the status of the road conditions, and use the CO-Pilot for routing. Remember, when tethered, your carrier data rates apply.
Hope I helped,
Bob
So voice searching is wonderful in certain situations (in car).
However, "navigate to nearest taco bell" results in a
"Did you mean..." list of all taco bell in the city, and the list doesn't even include distance from the current location.
Is there a trick to actually let it navigate to the 'nearest' one using distance?

If your gps is working fine then you should get nearest location already. Doesn't need to tell to navigate nearest taco bell, just 'taco bell'. The list must present you the nearest location in order. Check your gps fix timing with gps test and watch it's sat fixing time. this may be inacurate

Tried GPS test, but seems normal. Also the "map" app or "nav" app doesn't have any trouble fixing on current position with tight dot.
But still when searched for 'taco bell' or 'walmart' gives a whole list of places without regard to distance in order.
I don't think I'm bugged out.. just wondering if I haven't triggered the right options to "navigate to nearest".. in one shot instead of having to select form the options.

Had you tried same feature in other apps like foursquare? What app are giving this results, gmaps?
cheers
Hi guys,
Just happened yesterday, i tried to share my position in an urban dense area using the 'new' Here Map, these are what I found:
- links to m.nokia.me but when people (and I) click it will redirect to m.here.com but then the coordinates will not shown in here.com, hence no points shown in map, only the bigger area
- longitudes are ok, but the latitudes are drifted by 200-300m north. In an urban dense area, this is easily 2-3 blocks away
WTF? They change Nokia Map to Here Map but they forgot to change the sharing URL. And it took me second try to share the coordinates accurately, even when the Here Map are showing my exact location from the beginning (not drifted at all)
In short, map is ok, but the sharing is broken. Why imbarassed me, Nokia?
Actually, it works fine for me.
On desktop with IE9 64-bit, it will show the map centered on the location but with no location icons. That's probably the limitation of the browser I use.
On my WP8 phone, it will automatically launch the Here map to show the exact location. As for the accuracy, it depends on your current location accuracy. It is pretty accurate for me sitting in my basement.
On my Android tablet and Android phones, it shows correctly in Chrome browser with location icon as well.
So, nothing is broken in location sharing.
Tested again on Win8 IE10 and it is the same as IE9. So is Chrome browser. They all showing the map without a location icon and slightly off to the right.
However, on mobile devices, they show correctly either on app (WP8) or mobile browsers.
