Just scrolling through the XDA app forums, or websites, feels slightly jerky or laggy to me. Anyone else ?
My wife has a stock Nexus-S 4G, and scrolling through XDA is smooth as flowing water, zero lag whatsoever.
The specs on my 3VO destroy the N-S, but it somehow feels a tad slower to me

I been saying the same thing my g2x is 1ghz dual core my 3d is 1.2 ghz dual core and the g2x destroys the 3d n benchmarks and speed tests

If Sprint or Google can patch the Nexus and fix the network/radio issues in the next 30 days, I will probably return this EVO-3D.
I am just shocked for a phone with these beastly specs, pretty much the best hardware out for any smartphone today, and it feels slower than last years single core device Nexus-S.

Mines running smooth as can be
Phone is fast no doubt. But our Nexus-S just feels smoother or more slick. The 3VO will hiccup every once in a while when scrollibg through a list of things.
Just try scrolling up and down with 40 topics viewed on XDA, flip it up and down back and forth a bunch. The 3VO will be just a slight slow down once every 1/10th of a second maybe. Where the Nexus is perfectly smooth and warp speed fast. No lag whatsoever on the N-S.

All we need is root, a custom rom, and some custom kernels, and its all over. Sense seems to be a resource hog. It needs tweaking.

while the scrolling may not be as smooth as, say, the epic, the screen shows more pixels. definitely displays more info as well, which is a total tradeoff.
overall, the Evo 3D makes my epic feel like a half-baked toy.
and i really wanted to love the epic, but there's just no support for keeping it relevant and polished.

Has anyone else noticed this? If there was a single gripe I have about this phone, it's the browser scrolling. For instance, on the xda developer's forums, with the list of all the phones, the scrolling seems very choppy. On small websites it's not as bad, but I was expecting it to be buttery smooth like (I hate to say it) the SGSII.
I am just wondering if anyone else noticed this and if there is a way around it with/without root? I would be more than happy to wait for root because I know what kind of jumps I can see in performance with a custom ROM/kernel (I had a hero for what seems like a long time and it was much better as time went on due to the custom roms etc.)

Just tried it, runs smooth on my end. You have anything running in the background?
Yes, I have this. It's very annoying.
Thankfully it's my only real complaint about the phone so far.
One other that is bothersome... If you start scrolling down a page while it's still loading, it will snap back to the top when finished loading. This is also very annoying. Anyone else have that issue?

Definitely roll with Opera Mobile! SMOOOTH
i get occasional lag (not just browsing) that gets annoying but a reboot fixes everything. also: i use dolphin HD and my browsing has been very smooth overall
Anybody else getting lag in the xda app when trying to scroll fast feels laggy I did the ota I think it has to to with photos like on the market which makes it laggy I was using imb and it was lagging a lot it looks like its slowing down because of the pics anyone else having this

I don't get why HTC doesn't like implementing hardware acceleration in their phones. My old epic 4g, which was released last year, has hardware acceleration and doesn't stutter on the xda forum desktop site like the 3D. Still, at least it's a million times better than the evo 4g. The og evo could hardly browse xda's desktop site.
Could it be the new weather animations? That's gotta be it, Hollywood A-grade computer animation in QHD resolution, sorta makes "sense" LOL...we if that's the case, then I'll take it! The weather animations in Sense 3.0 kicks ass over anything available today, both on Android and iDrone.
It's such eye candy!
Sense 3.0 isn't bloated in my opinion.. it was designed to take advantage of the available hardware... Which means a bigger footprint,,, everything gets bigger when it gets better.... We went from vhs<dvd<blu ray
Of course a old vhs lover would say 20+gb is too much but it sure looks good doesn't it.... Same situation here

Personally I care less about how much space it uses and more about how slow it is. On my Evo 4G, I saw a 35% to 40% increase in speed using several different benchmarks when I dumped Sense and went with an AOSP ROM. I suspect this phone will SCREAM once it is rooted and we get a good AOSP ROM on it. Right now, it's barely beating my AOSP ROM'd Evo 4G.

Fair point. I don't really play arcade/graphics games on the phone so I don't find much use for the extra speed honestly. It did make scrolling and app loading quicker but I can't say that's huge. AOSP ROMs did use less battery for me too: quite a bit less. On the speed side: it's just nice knowing it's there if you need it. Sort of like owning a 200 MPH sports car that you know will never see that speed under your watch.

What is the smoothest sense 3.0 rom?
And when i say smooth i mean no lag, no stutter, no glitches, no nothing, just a smooth, as you would have liked it rom.
Some ppl say rom's are smooth and i find them to be laggy, for instance (no offence Lee) Leedroid's rom is laggy, but everything works!
Need a rom which works and is smooth as butter, like coredroid on the sensation.
Quickest rom i've ever seen, frame rate is ridiculous.
Any suggestions???

I too would very much like a smooth 3.0 ROM. Obv would prefer sense 3.5 but I find there are too many bugs. Unfortunately I'm on gsm so there are not much options at the mo. Starting to wish I got a sensation (even with the lack of 1gb RAM)
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using XDA Premium
Warm TwoPointThree might be your best bet. It is also pretty smooth, but not quite as good as Eternity. You can however remove some of the 3D effect on the Rosie and make it just 2D and that makes it more smooth, the option to do that is in Warm Tweaks. Eternity also has the same thing in the same place called Eternity Tweaks.
I have the same problem looking for a smooth and stable GSM rom...and all sense 3.5 seem to have something not working.
Isn't the GSM version of InfectedROM Eternity a nightly sense 3.5 build? I tried it 2 days ago, battery went from 95% to 13% in 4-5 hours of stand by...and it wasn't system tunners fault.

The lack of ram isn't all that much in all honesty, 768MB is more than enough for the rom's that we're running.
Plus the amount of attention the sensation gets is staggering when you compare it to the 3vo, i too wish i would have got the XE, it's a stellar handset, at stock it's good, put ICS on it and it's blazing.
However, don't know the 3vo too much, if the right dev's pop over to this then i can see the evo being a beast, it's got the hardware, it's got 3d which not many phones can boast, it's also got a decent battery and nice screen too, plus i've dropped mine i dont' know how many times and it just bounces
ANYWAY, back to the rom, up until now, probably King Cobra is the best, although once i have all my apps installed and the rom has settled a bit, it's a bit clunky. Everything does work though, and it's themeable, which is always nice.
Wish we had coredroid man, crazy rom that on sense 3.

It is a nightly yea, which means that older releases are sometimes better than the newer ones, tried a few, but documentation on whats been good and whats not involves sifting through the many pages which make up the thread, not a bad rom tho.
Best batter life i was getting was with Mikrunny 1.11, got nearly two days on med - low usage clocked @ 1.18Ghz, no need for any more as it's smooth, it's just ur missing features like 3d gaming and it's not got a theme besides Phikal's which isn't complete, still a good theme tho.

i second this. good phone...not an extreme amount of community/dev support. there is plenty, but it's not a phone that has some great number of experimental roms or anything.
Good phone, but imo should go with something newer if tech interest you. If not, go for it. Can get it really cheap now compared to the other phones with same tech. 3d is just a plus, not a must have but fun to play with and show off to friends.

It's annoying and strains your eyes, but pretty cool the first few weeks. After that, you really stop using it.

Yep, no lag
whats the highest stable overclock and how does it effect performance?
The phone's stock clock is 1.2Ghz. The processor is meant to be at 1.5Ghz so that's the highest stable you'll go. Some phones can get up to 1.8Ghz and 1.9Ghz.
Additional Notes:
Don't get the evo 3D unless you need a new phone now. This phone is 8 months old meaning the new Evo will come out soon. Also, the GSM Evo 3D doesn't have much dev support. If you want great dev support, try the Samsung Galaxy SII.

Never played any of those but I would imagine so. It has pretty beefy processing power and as I said before, if you put a custom ROM and kernel on it then things become VERY smooth. Benchmarks are subjective and everyone has their favorite, but some people can pull over 4000 score in Quadrant benchmark with this phone.

Highest I have seen is just over 2GHz, but I dont think that is stable 100%. Highest known to be stable is a bit over 1.7GHz, most are completely stable around 1.5-1.6GHz range. I have my phone set up with a 2 stage OnDemand governor with a max speed of 1.4GHz
Performance from overclocking is big, especially on a custom kernel like AnthraX. That kernel has different GPU and bus speeds in it as well, and if you run between 1.4-1.6GHz you have an overclocked GPU as well as overclocked CPU. Going above that lowers GPU to stock speeds to help stability.
Performance is VERY good at stock though and you shouldnt need to OC to run anything.
Battery life is average Id say, but if you get just the right setup and tweak things just right you can get amazing battery life. I have gone over 3 days on a single charge with very light usage. On heavy usage it is like any phone and only goes about 5-6 hours.

the question is... is it worth the wait and the money to wait for the next gen snapdragon s4 htc devices which will probebly be annouced at mwc in a month..
great phone fast responsive with the latest update battery life has been great for me. every game i threw at it , it played it with no lag . I think it will take some time for devs to really get a hold of the 3d thing to get that and 4g into asop roms. I found this app on htc hub called phereo thats a 3d pic sharing app thats got me hooked on the 3d side of it again lol. my stable max over clock is 1728 mhz hope this helps

I don't know what these guys are talking about. This is by far the best quality/price you could get right now. There is the Motorola Atrix 4G which is also cheap but not as good as the Evo3D. The only dark spot is the camera which is good but not as great as other phones.
Evo 3D is always on the top 5 most popular phones on XDA. so I guess deving is still ongoing. Most devs are just waiting for an ICS leak to get back. And GSM dev section has nearly all flavours: Sense 3.0, Sense 3.5, AOSP (MIUI, ICS and CM) and I have no doubt that even if some builds miss one or two things, they will get mature in the near future.
Anyway, my choices would be:
If you have money, want speed with good quality build and can wait: HTC Edge.
If you have money, want speed with good quality build and cannot wait: HTC Amaze.
If you don't have money, want speed with good quality build: HTC Evo 3D.
And since I do like to use my phone (using like calling family, checking mails, feeds, etc. not like running useless benchmarks) and want it to stick around, I would never recommend a plastic phone like GSII.

Obvious things like working data and WiFi. 3D and 4G mean nothing to me.
95% of themed ROMs look pretty terrible, so I usually refrain from those. The 5% includes Warm, Eternity, and SupraROM.
I lean more towards ICS these days, but the battery drain (even without bluetoothd) is pretty horrendous, and it's still not completely stable.
All of those things mixed together means that I'm really looking forward to data and WiFi on the Sense 4.0 port...
I'm just looking for an optimized rom which is either an optimized stock rom or an stable port with all features working.
Most important for me when I consider to use is that it has the essential parts working, if the 3D part is not working that is something I can understand, but I think its important to have that working to.
Because the 3D makes our device stand out from the crowd. Also an reason for choosing an custom rom is because the overclocks, because our devices have much more in them then the standard 1.2Ghz clock.
I look mainly for tweaks/optimizations that make the phone run faster, smoother, and get better battery life. I also love eye candy, but most of the themed roms look really cheesy IMO. Myn's Warm has always kept it classy and sexy, love the green/transparancy theme it's had since the debut on the Evo 4G. Definitely looking for stability and functionality though. I could care less about 3D (face it, it's a gimmick to show off to your friends once and never use it again), and 4G coverage is so spotty and useless indoors that it's hard to miss. Extra features are also a plus. So my favorite roms:
Warm 2.3: Sexy, classy, super fast/smooth, and everything works perfectly. Definitely the best Sense rom and I have been a fan of Myn's work since the early OG Evo days.
MIUI: Really fast, different look and feel, different features like pop up text messages, and great battery life. Although I do have to use LauncherPro because I can't stand not having an app drawer with all my icons littered across my home screens.
CM9: I WANTTTTT. ICS is freaking awesome and I love it but due to it being in the alpha stages I can't use it as a daily. I tried, but data dropping in and out, wifi connection issues, frequent force closes, no camera, and horrific battery life keep me from using it till development progresses further.

Bang from my Shooter!!!
1) Everything working. Seems a little ridiculous to me to run a rom that breaks otherwise working features just to say you're running it...
2) Aesthetically pleasing. Eternity, MIUI, and Warm all got it right. Seems like most of the rest just throw in highly contrasting colors (read: ugly) and icons that all look almost identical and call it a day...
3) Tweaks and modifications. It has to be able to do something that stock can't.
4) No Bloat. Not even a little bit.
5) Dev support. This is kind of a throw back to #1. We have some amazing devs around here making already great roms faster and smoother. But then again, I have seen some great ideas just get abandoned after a while.
