I am currently using Aura, but to be honest the interface is very complicated.
Not easy to save or make a trip, or save a favourite place...
Is there anywhere a manual to understand how to use it?
Other Sygic programs have better controls, but Aura runs smoother on my Milestone...

Downloaded the 7 day trial. Seems pretty straight forward to me to plan a trip. Shame theres no Google search though. Not tested it on an actual trip yet either!
Anyone know how to search for a place in Aura? I mean, in Google maps/ Navigation I can search for say Buckingham Palace and I get the route. But in Aura I have to type in the street no., block, building and all sorts of info I don't know.
Any help will be appreciated as Aura it seems is the only one has updated maps for the middle east.

Click on navigate to and then click nearby POIs
PS POI means point of interest
There is also a manual inside the app. Check -> info -> user guide. It opens a pdf file with your pdf viewer (you can also check the Aura folder on your storage for that file). So you have your manual always on your phone! And with one of the latest versions of Sygic GPS Navigation they already introduced Google Local Search. All you have to know is the city where you are looking for the place you want to navigate to.

Have you guys checked out the NEW Windows Live Search?
* Map your friends: Grabs addresses from your contact list, puts them on the map, and provides directions.
* View Virtual Earth collections: Lets you check out maps of locations/events shared by members of the community.
* Web search: Launch web search directly from the client to find web pages, product price comparisons and reviews, news, images, etc.
* Weather: Check the current weather, or a 4 day forecast.
If you have it the older version installed all you have to do is run Windows Live Search and check for an update, but if you don't have it installed check out
http://wls.live.com and you can download it from there.

This is the program I use for driving directions and they are good. The Telenav that's included form Sprint took me a mile down a backroad to the edge of a lake because I chose "shortest distance"!! WLS directions have never pulled that crap on me : )
Plus... since I got no2's mogul tools and hid the extended rom I can actually use a huge cache.
This is the best program now.
Yeah especially the gas prices feature...with gas being absolutely ridiculously expensive...handy little tool. Already have pushed Google Maps to the side for this new version.
Love this new version,also don't forget there's also a new mini weather app included.
Nice. I did some mapping with the last ver of Live using contacts and it was always way off.
[EDIT] Score, it's accurate. Tried some addresses and they all mapped correctly.
Sadly for routing and gas it remains limited to the USA & UK..
How is this version in regards to memory. The previous version seemed to hog a lot of resources for it run.

What did you guys do to get the GPS to work? Are you using the GPS launcher?
I have tried the default settings in GPS as well as changing the COM port to the one indicated in GPS settings. (both settings in Win Live)
Google Maps works perfectly with no issue. Any suggestions? I would really like to try out this new version of Windows Live!

I'm using GPS Viewer to prime the GPS. It seems Live search screws up the GPS too, need to soft reset to get it working again. I need to update my radio/rom tho still.
GPS worked right after flashing dcd's new rom for me. I have Sprint Navigation installed too, not sure if that helps but I use it so it also.

Works perfectly for me. It's All about having the 3.35(.04) radio.
GPS needs no enablers or extra programs Google maps AND Live Search work perfectly. So well, in fact, that even (in the rare cases) I loose signal and the data connection Live search will keep track of me on a blank or fuzzy map : )

I am traveling to some parts of Asia where apps like Tomtom do not have maps and I am thinking if it is possible to have Google maps copied to the SD card and use the HTC GPS and Compass for navigation.Not just as a map but like a point to point tuen like Tomtom.

Garmin Mobile XT could be an idea. They have quite a large range of maps, including Asia, as far as I know.
Have you looked at iGo by NavnGo. This is their Asia coverage:

Don´t remember the app name either... also, there seem to be conversion tools to "translate" open street maps into commercial navigation readable formats.
Anything similar to translate Google maps to readable format?
I have looked through google and parts of this forum but haven't really had any luck on finding an app that will show coordinates when you're offline. I know there are apps where you can download a map and store it on your SD card, but I like to hike in Eastern Oregon and Western Idaho where there aren't really any options to get the maps digitally.
I was wondering if anyone knew of an app that allowed you to enter coordinates to navigate there or to have it save your current coordinates so you could return there.

Did you check out Locus and Maverick from the Android Apps and Games forum? If they are good, maybe come back and do a mini-review? I'd be interested in setting up something similar on my phone.

OSMAnd might also be useful - if your hiking trails are in OSM.
However OSMAnd doesn't do offline terrain/topo.

Thanks, IDK I'll have a physical topo map so I don't necessarily need topo, I'll check it out. I'm more concerned about the Lat/Long Coordinates to make sure I can get back to my car...It's hours away from even remote towns and I don't want to get lost!

I'll check them out and post back if I find useful, I did download maverick and it looks like it allows you to navigate to coordinates. I also downloaded the free version of backpacker GPS Trails and it's pretty good as well, It even has a map which includes one of the hikes I'm interested in. I'll update in a few weeks after I've had some time to try them out around town...

Gaia GPS is nice. You can predownload maps and record and save your hikes, then post them with google maps.

I've used My Tracks to record bike rides, and the only issue I've had with it is that I always seem to start off about 200-400 ft below sea level. I can usually get GPS Test app to settle down to something close to actual altitude, but My Tracks never does even if I let it sit for 5 minutes outside with a clear view of the sky before I start recording the ride. According to the GPS Status app web site, this is the way the GPS works on Android.
I swear by Locus Pro, personally. There's a "map tweak" add-on available that allows you to view and download from Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. plus they have up-to-date My Topo maps. Whenever I'm heading out, I download the entire area down to the highest zoom level, in Google terrain maps and My Topo maps, and maybe satellite if I'm feeling like I might want it (though those tiles are a lot larger than the rest). It even interfaces with My Tracks if you want to use that to record your route instead of the built-in tracker.
I've used Gaia GPS several times in the past hiking around the Rockies and it's been great. No issues at all. I'm not sure that it's the best, but it's worked well for me.
My fav is Oruxmaps. You can use mobile atlas creator to create offline maps from either windows/mac/linux. It's java based.

In the default Google maps app, hit the menu button and go into settings, then labs. Enable "pre-cache map area". Then go back to the map, and long-press on the area you'll be hiking. Tap on the location detail, then down at the bottom you should see "pre-cache map area". That will save the area within 10 miles of the location for use when there is no data service.

Osmand has a car parking plugin that not only records to use as destination the location where you left you car, but also the time you must return to it. You can also show the current location, create a POI for it and do whatever you like with it.
Try Spyglass, it's by far my favourite nav app. It works extremely well when offline with just gps signal and top-notch for off-road navigation, hiking and camping. It's crammed with all that necessary data like gps coordinates, current azimuth, altitude, speed, potential arrival time to your target and much more. You can also save locations to return to them later and share locations with your friends.

I've downloaded Navigon 4.1.1, and got it to work, but there is one particular map which used to be on Navigon's list of downloadable maps, and now it isn't.
However, I've found a torrent that has that map.
If I copy the .map file it doesn't show up.
Any idea of what other things I have to change to get it to work?

Yes Mittaa, I tried a Google search. Couldn't find anything, that's why I posted here. That's why I have a post count of 3, because I use search engines extensively.
If you have a problem related to a legally downloaded Navigon app, then contact Navigon
What I mean is that you have to find answers else where.
XDA-developers dislike this kind of "illegal" actvities and I agree
I wasn't talking about illegal activities. Just that there used to be a map on their list of downloadable maps and then it wasn't. It was taken off the list and there was no reason given why the map wasn't on the list anymore. I found the map file, and I was just asking if there was a way to put it in Navigon. Because you buy Navigon once and then you can download any map you please.
It's no problem now, because it's back on the map downloads list. Downloaded it and works like a charm.

You are able to download the Google maps for offline use, have you tried doing that with your tablet? All it should need after download is GPS...

Well, it's not that simple actually. You can't download entire maps. You can pre-cache 10 square mile areas around locations.
Works well if you know where you're going .

Sorry, I wasn't aware of that. How do I do that? All I see is an option to cache map area. How can I cache the whole USA map ?
try Orux maps from the market, its an open source alternative and as far as I am aware you can create maps of any size for offline use. And its free (or donation!).

Have you looked into the new additions to Google Maps? I think they're increasing the offline capabilities (according to their talk yesterday or the day before).

Although google maps is excellent and the new features are needed, orux maps includes google maps within along with just about every other map source available.
I havent heard of any apps that do offline route planning and navigation though, thats a different story.
Oruxmaps looks good but I don't think it does what I'm looking for. I need complete "turn by turn" navigation offline (just like car navigation ).

I bought sygic. There's a free time-limited market d/l and my USA upgrade was $20. I've used it on one trip and it was very a functional turn-by-turn experience. Maps are by Tom-Tom.
i wish you could cache more than 10 square miles in google maps... 10 just never seems like enough!
Downloaded the trial version of Sygic and took it for a spin. Without the GPS dongle I lost GPS connection randomly but with the dongle I was able to complete a 10 mile journey with Voice guidance without any issue.

Well, SYGIC is great. Me and a collegue both tested NAVIGON and SYGIC and SYGIC is by far the winner!
Google Maps "offline" is not recommendable. You only will download a 10x10 tile. Not more!
Google announced they will be adding full offline support (not just a 10x10 tile), but it's not out yet.

ZANavi for android.
It's a fork from NAVIT. Free, using free Openstreetmaps, you can download entire countries, or even the whole world lol. There is a possibility to donwload only a limited region on navit's website (google it).
Not as sexy as paid versions but it does the job.
And people speaking about google maps please provide correct info. Offline maps in it is only an anounce, with no ETA.
I use GoPilot Live Pro and like it. I think they have a free version you can try, but eventually, you will want to go to the PRO version. If you find a map error, you can submit a correction to them and they will fix it. In addition to that, I also run WAZE...it's an online map service, but has the best info on Police/traffic congestion/accidents because it's totally based on user reporting. I don't know why, but their routing is attrocious. I use CoPilot for my directions, and check in on Waze to check the road conditions ahead. To use Waze, I just tether my phone to the Prime.

I haven't really used it myself for navigation, but Osmand is superb for viewing maps and tracking. It is easy to download vector maps for each country from within the app and there is a wide variety of online maps. The navigation is provided by Cloud made, YOURS, OpenRouteService, or the offline option.
I've tried Navit, and it works, but the UI is disgusting.
