First do the "Reset Calibration" then do your own calibration is how I did it.

That's for the HTC Keyboard ONLY. THat has no effect on anything else.
And no, there is no way (or need) to calibrate the screen.

The dialog says for the tool says "Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience".
While I did not design the phone or interface, I don't know 100% either way and luckily, it can't hurt.
*If you did code the interface and know for sure, thank you. ;-)

Thanks

Thanks that's what I needed

I wish there was a way to calibrate the touch screen. Anyone else having issues where you press the top thread of SMS and it goes to the 4th one down and then it locks the screen like it's touching there so I can't press anything else? No back button, home button. Only thing that works is locking it then unlocking but sometimes you have to do that 3 to 4 times before it will stop "touching" that same spot. I haven't hard reset yet but if that doesn't work I'm going to have them replace it.

That happened to me a lot with the original evo, not as bad with this one, but it has been off a few times

What does this do? Menu > Settings > Display > G-Sensor calibration

Are you daft? It calibrates the G-sensor, as in the sensor that reads the G forces the phone is being exposed to.

I had MAJOR touch screen problems (not keyboard) and this seems to have fixed them!

Seetings > display> calibration unless thats only in the rom im using
Nevermind only an option on my rom

Nope I have the option as well. The feature is offered on most stock based roms I believe.

It sounds like your digitizer (touchscreen interface) may be going out. Try to calibrate in the keyboard settings and then calibrate the "g" (accelerometer) sensor. If you're still having issues with p,0 put your phone in landscape mode where the home button is on top and confirm that area of the screen by pressing the comma or space bar. Good luck.

You might also try a Gingerbread Rom as I've noticed the accuracy to sometimes be off on ics Roms, especially near the screen edges. Or, maybe try a different keyboard.

[Q] Stop buttons turning phone on

Done a search and can't find a solution...
With the 'easy to press' buttons on the HD2 the phone screen keeps powering on in my pocket (I use phone lock to stop auto dialling).
This is draining the battery...
Any way to stop this happening? Say, have just the power button only turn on the screen, after a long press for example???

Try settings / system / keylock settings. There are options to set the buttons as non responsive except for the power button.

I have this same issue and I've got a stock 3.14 tmobile rom but when I go to settings / system /, there is no options for keylock settings. is that on a custom rom?
+1 for this
From new my phone used to have the option of locking all buttons except the power key ... until I did my first hard reset, then it vanished! I would have thought the settings app would have been in the ROM, so restored after the hard reset, but obviously not.
Anyone have a cab for it or care to extract it from their HD2?
<quote>Try settings / system / keylock settings. There are options to set the buttons as non responsive except for the power button.</quote>
Nope, no such option on my HD2...
Seems we need 'keylock.exe'
Anyone got it and know if it will work in an HD2?
Ok, at least I know I'm not unique now...
i've installed Hd2ProximityScreenOff-0.2.cab which I guess turns the screen back off quickly if an "in-pocket" button press brings the screen to life. (can't confirm what happens in my pocket, but seems to do the trick in my hand)
but I'd really like to know if someone knows how to get to this keylock setting

any chance you can dig up where "settings / system / keylock settings" points?
maybe it points to something already in the stock rom?

i can install the stock rom update right from tmo, and install cabs and crap, but not yet ready to make the leap to customer roms (or android for that matter)
try pocketshield software. it has feature that turns your screen immediately off if its in pocket etc with proximity sensor, also its great and cool.

[Q] Make buttons stay on with backlight

Is there a way to have the 3 hardware "buttons" stay on anytime the backlight is on? I switch between devices often and it can be a pain to remember which button is which at night.
This question comes up often. Please do a search.
Download Adjbrightness (free, need root) from market.

This seems to allow a full range of screen brightness adjustment but doesn't seem to offer any option to keep the buttons turned on when the screen is on.

Still no go. Used both the brightness and the timeout set buttons. Button backlight only stays on for about 5 seconds.
same here.....
At first I didn't like the light not staying on either, however after about a week, it was pretty easy to remember which the 3 buttons are and where... even in the dark. Now I don't mind at all.
Tip... touch lightly anywhere on that side and it lights up.

Turning off auto brightness...

Anyone come accross how to do this yet?
Brightness is set to maximum but dims when in low light.
Thanks.
As of the moment no way to set the auto brightness to off. Maybe some software update oughta to do it, or some genius gets pissed off and develop one.
I also noticed that when you force off the capacitive button lights (useful when dark) via software, the keyboard light will not turn on also (not useful when dark).
The x10 mini has locked auto-brightness too and it can be disabled this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036544&highlight=brightness
Maybe it works on the mini/active as well?

Edit /etc/hw_config.sh using RootExplorer
1. change the line: i2c_pwm_als with i2c_pwm
2. set permissions to rwxr--r-- (744) if they are changed! VERY IMPORTANT!
3. reboot and enjoy the missing sensor

or do you use 3rd party software? (if so, whats it called?)
^ Its an app on the market called "Screen Filter". I use that to further dim the screen (at nights), thereby save battery as well. And its free, as in really free, no ads at all unlike many "free" but has ad pushing. You can turn off the capacitive button lights when you prefer to setup a widget for it.

Looks like the format has changed in this file.
But this one looks interesting:
echo 1 > $dev/lcd-backlight/als/enable #Sensor on/off. 1 = on, reg 90h
I guess it can be tested "live" by doing:
echo 0 > /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0040/leds/lcd-backlight/als/enable
I'm on a non-rooted build so I can't test myself :-(

I found another app, which may actually be better, as it turns off the backlight of the capacitive buttons, but leaves the keyboard backlight active when opened!
it's called "Keyboard backlight controller".
funny enough, this is supposed to disable keyboard backlight, but on the Xperia Mini Pro it disables only the backlights of the soft-keys!
edit: forgot to mention, this app needs root, so may not be for everyone.
Whoa nice find, I'll try that when I can

yes, this is caused by the auto brightness, which can't be turned off in the user interface.
I've played around with hw_config.sh file, trying to get it disabled, but to no avail.
Anyone else more luck?
I've found an application that works, it's called "Disable Auto Brightness".
It was made for another Xperia type phone, but also works on the mini pro (and I assume mini as well).
It works, but its somewhat unhandy: it'll disable the auto brightness sensor, but only after unlocking. so while using the stock lock screen, it works almost perfectly, but when using something like widgetlocker, it'll only work if you leave the system keyguard enabled (under advanced settings) which I don't really like too much.
so for anyone having these flicker issues, this is a fairly good solution.
but I'd like to have the sensor completely turned off.
soooo, anyone any luck with that?

correct. including another few different settings I tried.
they do have effect on the brightness of the LEDs though, but sadly no turning off the auto brightness of the screen.

NOT! Playing With The Proximity

I'm Using My Xperia S Quite A Long, This Is My First Android Phone So Far!:cyclops:
Now Straight Coming To The Problem:silly:
In Market, There Seems To Be So Many Cool Apps Dealing With The Proximity Sensor Like:
1>Proximity Screen Off
2>Wave Control
etc
Well It Seems There Is No Problem Installing It, Or Crash (or force Close)
BUT
On These Application Gesture Function Nothing Seems To Work EXCEPT The 'COVER & HOLD' Mode
[e.g: say I Set 'Swipe Once' To Turn Off The Screen And 'Swipe Once' To Turn On The Screen...NO NOTHING WORKS!:crying:
Now Put 'Cover & Hold' To Both Turn On And Off The Screen Just As Before (in different gesture)...Works Like A Charm:laugh:]
Same Case Happens In Wave Control ('Default Pause Or Play' On 'Cover & Hold' Works, But 'Next Song' On 'Swipe Once' Doesn't Work:crying:
I've Even Uploaded A Video (SORRY FOR LOW QUALITY with Nokia X6 :silly Showing The Problem In 'Proximity Screen Off' App
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CVFaV2QeIk
If Anyone Is Having The Same Problem Please Post It Down And Of Course The Solutions Are MOST WELCOME
AnYoNe!!??
Proximity Screen Off didn't work too well with my Xperia S...it had a problem with immediately switching the screen right back on after it triggered a screen off. I'm using Smart Screen Off myself, which I think is the best one of these sensor on/off apps I've seen yet. It has a lot of options and seems to have a better calibration for your proximity sensor and gyroscope. Not only can you trigger your screen on and off with the proximity sensor, but you can also shake the phone to turn the screen on/off, and flip it over to turn the screen off. I'm using a hand wave to turn the screen on, combined with a screen off widget and the flip over motion for turning the screen off, and it works great.
I do wish somebody could make an app like PGM Nexus for Xperias, that is an amazing app that's sadly for the Galaxy Nexus only. You can turn on your screen by just swiping left to right on the screen, or double tapping on it with that app. Swiping right to left at the screen bottom turns the screen back off.

Yes i know this bug.
It's just because the proximity sensor is to slow.
And don't worry, it's a software bug.
