Hey guys I have to send back my thunderbolt to VZ, I just got the Charge instead cuz the TB sucked!!
I rooted my TB and all, I was ready to Unroot using the ADB way... I uploaded the 3 files and then it says ADB: no such file for the recovery part.
So Then I wiped my cache and my Partition thinking I was good to go with the upload from Zip through recovery. That didnt work
Now Im trying to get the phone into Download mode so I can connect using Odin. Then Flash a Stock Rom using Odin onto phone....
Also when in Terminal App on phone and get SU permissions and then try ADB: Reboot Download or recovery , I get ------ No Such Tool?
questions are How do I Unroot this Damn phone to send back to VZ???
And how do I flash stock Rom without Odin?
The TB in no way sucks. It will slaughter that POS Charge.

Thunderbolt doesn't have a download mode.. and when in the terminal on the phone you don't need the adb: part.. just "reboot recovery" and when using adb on the computer don't use a colon ":" either just adb

been searching dude, Im stuck it doesnt load and for some odd reason not letting me flash a rom. Any suggestions?

I would suggest starting from the beginning and re- download all of the files. Check mdsum5, painstakingly follow each and every step and you should be returned to stock in about 20 minutes once you have downloaded all of the files.
Odin is not a tool we use with the Thunderbolt. We use ADB shell and Hboot and CWR as means of flashing Roms, radios and other files to our phones. I assume you are at least a bit familiar with these as at some point you rooted your phone.

Hello!
I did something really stupid. I rooted my Vibrant, and all was super easy and fine, but my home button was being unresponsive so without thinking enough did a reset on my phone. I wanted to make sure I covered my bases so I downloaded Titanium Backup and "backed up" all of the important things....call log, contacts, browser history, etc. etc. then did the master reset, but I don't think it worked. So now that I have done the reset it gives me force close messages on all of the main functions of the phone....dialer, web, you name it. Plus my home button still isn't working :/
So, the way I see it I have two options; risk sending the phone back to t-mobile under the guise of the home button issue....and maybe pay dearly for it (Superuser is still in the apps)
OR....
Hope and pray in the power of the XDA Gods, at least in order to get this to the workable category.

Are you able to get to the "Terminal Emulator" without it FCing?
You could boot into Clockwork Recovery and flash eugene's STOCK rom to see if that fixes anything.
hmmm, there's only the superuser and then the preinstalled apps. i did the one click root, so maybe that was missing the terminal app?

No its not missing, the "one click" just does rooting for you. You have go to into the market and download the application "Terminal emulator," if you're able to get that then you can unroot yourself and exchange your phone without T-Mobile ever finding out that you rooted. Or you could try flashing a stock ROM with Clockwork Recovery

Get Terminal Emulator as well; where do you want to go from now? You want to try to troubleshoot this problem or just unroot the phone and exchange it
Edit: Figure ill just make it easier.

Also remove apps that require root access.
Either one will do the trick. I would go with troubleshooting, the directions are simple. If it doesn't work then.. unroot and make sure that all the bloatware is there + no root applications so they wont be able to tell.
Here dude. It seems you can not download terminal emulator from the market, so here it is with the root file for good measure. Only thing is I hope you have a way to download it and get it to your phone. Gl, and let me know if you need any more help.

Any way that I can at least get this guy to fly in under the warranty inspection radar and be functional is the way I'm wanting to go. should i attempt to load the files from the clockwork program into my phone? Sorry I'm so fuzzy on this.

Hey bro, here is a simple fix.
Download ROM Manager which I attached below and install it. Within ROM Manager you will have a option to install Clockwork, so go ahead and install in through ROM Manager. ( Clockwork gets installed on your device ). Then follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740077 to download a stock Vibrant Rom. Follow the instructions on how to install the ROM, and you should be good.
Forgot permission for "unknown" in superuser app
Ok, so I accidently tapped forget for the "unknown" in super permissions and now when I try to type su in adb shell it says access denied. Any help?
I ve tried about 4 imulaters none will open.then I thought I had found the aswers to one of my issues, getting terminal imulator to work. But after ive installation and reboot just for good measure. I get the message that I cant install apps connected to the market. Im thinking maybe I should try unrooting and resetting the imei. Is there another way?
if youre getting a lot of fc errors, then odin back to JFD. make sure to use the .pit and .tar files. you'll be on official stock. then you can root/ update to official. anyway, its never a bad idea to go back to complete stock after major errors.
I tried this emulater su removal thing but it said that none of those fials exist. I am clearly rooted with su. Could it have something to do with my 17 digit imei cant seem toswitch back?
No and you seem to be pretty clueless to what they are suggesting you do. The easiest way to fix most problems with FC. Are using Odin to flash the OS back to stock. Several guides in the bible. Look under android development for the vibrant bible.
Maybe I should elaborate my issues so I dont seem so clueless, I dont have sync! I have tried kies, and odin but does didly squat w/o sync.
I dont have market access or OTA support. I just got back terminal after about 15 tries.

If your going to do anything to your phone such as rooting you need to download odin. There is a tutorial in the dev section under the vibrant bibal. Odin will restore your phone back to stock like it was out of the box. There are plenty of ppl willing to help on these forums so if you run into problems just ask. Every time I thought I screwed up my phone odin has saved my life.

Yeah, use the same method. After your rooted, flash the rooted OTA stock Rom (google it) and also flash the its radio. That's what I did.

I am unable to install the 7/8 Combo Radio package after installing DasBAMF Stripped 1.8.6
Constantly says "Installation Aborted."
Anyone else with this experience? I thought that I had read that this combo worked.
Got this sorted. I was using an MR1 package, not MR2, apparently. Using a different packaging of the OTA update flashed in via HBOOT.

Your flashing it through the bootloader right? You can't use clockwork to flash it.

I would like to know the best route for me to go with minimal risk of bricking. I have flashed my wife's LG Ally a couple of times .. was easy enough, just ran an exe
All of the ones I have found for the thunderbolt seem to be a lot more complex. Is there a OneClick method I can run that will include the new radio (so i can get the latest fixes)?
If not, I am willing to go the ADB route (I have the Android SDK installed) but I dont know how to update the radio.

Use adb to root. Radio is done through hboot. Power off phone. Then hold vol key down and power on. Will bring you to hboot. Make sure radio is at root of SD card and is named properly. There is a sticky in the DEV section that will walk you through it.

I just used the XDA development one. The key point is to read it carefully several times and be sure you understand each step. Ask questions beforehand if you are not sure about something. And be sure to follow each step exactly. Typos are the biggest risk, so go slow and read what you've typed on each line before hitting enter.
The radio file needs to be renamed to PG051IMG.zip and placed on the root of the SD card. Then power off and boot into bootloader. It'll load automatically after you hit +volume to confirm "yes ".
I had several flashes that resulted in the Exclamation Point warning triangle. Pulling the battery and USB cable and reinstalling power got me back to a running build.
It took me a while to do every step. I wanted to skip steps, not realizing that you needed the downgrade and RUU flashes to get S-OFF and unlock.
Once that was all done, I went to DasBAMF Stripped and found the OTA radio in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160346.
So far, so good. Calibrating battery now and trying to personalize and optimize to my best ability.

I did the 7/8 update, and was fine with it. I just wanted to get the Verizon bloatware off. I had problems installing the stock debloated ROMs, so i ran with BAMF to test, and since it worked, I kept it. My rooting came after the recent OTA.
The once-click and .bat methods didn't work so well for me, so I followed the full instructions in a CMD window (I can't call that POS in DOS a shell).
Most of my time was installing a correct Java JDK (had to use x86 instead of x64) and getting ADB dialled in.

I had the same thinking and wanted it the quick and easy way. Doing the research and taking the time (and beers ) to do it manually was very informative and satisfying when i got done. It was said already but ive been able to apply any feature that an official OTA would give long before its normally released to verizon customers. I love my Tbolt and wouldnt have it any other way.

Doing things the long way has never really scared me, but some of the horror stories I kept hearing a month or two back about instability of GB roms had me a bit hesitant to go for it.
It does appear to be a bit more involved than what I am accustomed to, but I have used ADB before, I was just trying not to this time.
Can someone give me a bit of advice actually.
I'm on the end of Step 4 found in the Developement section, and when I hit Bootloader, it brings up a second menu not mentioned in the posts, what do i do from here?

I used the auto root method 3 times so far and worked great. I did the full last update and lost root so I had to redo it load Rom and just added the radio file in hboot.
try auto root its fast and simple just follow the commands on the screen!

I have rooted before but as you can tell am currently unrooted, I have tried both the one-click and the usual command prompt rooting process but neither works.
After I type "./rage.bin" and it restarts adb my phone is no longer recognized when I type "adb devices". I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in but then it wont be recognized and I have to pull my battery out but this happens each time and I can't find a way around it. Debugging was on, current drivers, etc.
And help?
if your flashing a custom rom there is no need to root. But if you insist on rooting, try this method in section5 of my guide.

it look like he might be trying to demonstrate chop stick skills.
You only need root on stock roms if you are keeping them OR if you are trying to install recovery via Clockworkmod app. Other than that, most ROMs come with superuser already enabled. The MIUI is the only one I know that you have to actually enable the superuser ability in the settings.
But with these phone's it looks like all you need is a good recovery .tar file and odin. Now, i'm kinda new with this phone, but I have been through at least 10 droids. So I'm not quite sure. I keep asking everyone but I will get a new answer for each person I ask.
So the basic message I'm trying to convey is USE ODIN TO FLASH A RECOVERY and then you can load any rom you want which will have superuser. But recovery is what u want bro, i just dont know how to go about it.

Now my friend thinks I am a phone guru, so he gave me his Motorola Photon to do the same. First I unlocked the phone, rooted it and then tried to flash CWM, problem is the phone wont do anything, just shows main screen with, UNLOCKED and the red MOTO logo, tried to reset, clear all data and do a factory re set, and have the same problem. I have searched the threads here and there are so many just cant seem to find what to do.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks to all the posters and root/rom experts here, but must admit sometimes I am not sure what you guys are talking about. I can follow directions just need the right ones.

- Use RSDlite to SBF to 198_6 or if you want to start clean, 154_5 and then let the phone update to 198_6 via OTA.
- Reboot the phone and press power+Vol up to RSD mode
- Use derpunlock.sbf and flash that
- Pull the battery to reboot the phone
- Press power and vol down while booting to get into fastboot mode
- Connect the phone to the computer and let the drivers install
- Open cmd window and go through the fastboot commands to install CWM 5.0.2.7
a. moto-fastboot devices (make sure it shows a connection)
b. moto-fastboot erase recovery
c. moto-fastboot flash recovery recoveryXXXX.img (or whatever you've named your recovery)
d. moto-fastboot reboot
- Now that you have CWM...root your phone, or flash a ROM..if you have any questions, watch qbking77's videos or refer to Lokfish's compendium in the DEV section.

You may also have to rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak to get it to stick. The MoPho checks the recovery on boot and will re-install it if it isn't the right one.

Yes..great catch...root the phone after unlock and download root explorer to make this change and then flash cwm to make it stick

Thanks for the help and quick reply, will follow your advise. I know rooted and adding the CWM and custom ROM's was one of the best things I could have done for my HTC Hero and NOOK Color, just takes time, for me anyways, to find the links needed for unlocking, flashing CWM, custom ROM's etc.
Is there a place I am missing that lists these mor readily availiabe and organized? I have tried to follow the YouTube videos, but they always state to click on the link which leads back here for the downloads and have yet to find those.
Keep up the great work and I will be keeping my eye on this board

Thanks to all those that replied, everything is back to normal. I just ordered my very own Moto Photon and should arrive by today or sat. Cant wait, believe me will be spending many hours here on the forum and again thanks to all that helped.

Yesterday I upgraded to ICS via Kies. Worked great.
Then I proceeded to root it again using odin.
Unfortunately even after all the things done it now will not boot up at all.
All I get is the S a m s u n g logo. I can put it into boot mode and the computer see's it but nothing more.
If anyone can point me to any rom/bootloader/ etc. I would be most grateful.
Or just let me know what to do and where to get roms. I did search and there are many for the i700.
I guess I need a bootloader and rom right?
Sorry folks. Point me somewhere else will have to get another phone.

Others would tell you to look in the dev section for the stock rom (its usually called something like "in case of brick) I've had issues issues getting it to work but Im certain it was user error as to why it didn't work for me. But another option that I think could work would be to get your phone into download mode and run the ics upgrade thru kies again. You'll lose everything in your phone but I think it'll get your phone up and running again. But before you do any other that...did you make a nandroid back of? Or have you downloaded any roms to your phone because if you did you can just enter cwm and reflash any rom you may have or just flash your backup, backups are so important when doing these sort of things, saves a lot of head aches.
Edit: after reading your post again it says your phone messed up after rooting, try and re run the root file thru Odin, I kinda sorta remember reading something similar to this were people had issue trying to root. I'll try and find the thread.

this happened due to rooting with the Gingerbread method...so using Nash reply run/reinstall your Official ICS...and to root....
see My Links in red in my signature...go the GNote Super page....you should see what is being used to root the Official ICS...I used it and lots others, there prob more methods out there, but I found this is the easiest and more proven method....
Cant miss the info on GNote page regarding Rooting.
so to recap...since your believe you have bricked your phone...
use the method Nash replied to you with...put into download mode....run the official ics, you will need the model, serial number of your phone...
let us know how it works out for you...

And once you're rooted and all fixed up, enter cwm and create a backup. These are great because no matter what you do to your phone as long as you can enter cwm you'll always be able to fix your phone via backup.

I wanted to mention, I'm not sure how you updated thru kies originally (legit update or emergency update) the method you'll be using this time (if you choose to fix thru kies) is the more or less emergency method. I wanted to mention this because when your in download mode and connect your phone to your PC and run kies, kies will try to connect to your device but will time out over time...it took me 2 days of Q and A before I realized kies won't connect with phone in download mode, but that's OK. Once phone is connected click tools/firmware upgrade and initialization, and as bigjoe said youll than need to input model and serial numbers (all caps) than click OK. You'll have a few prompts afterwards but yo basically on your way to a running phone.

Brick = nothing at all happening on phone.
Samsung logo = bad flash (corrupt file used)
Brick can sometimes be revived with a JTAG device.
Samsung logo means re download file, re read instructions and relevent thread, and redo your work.
Don't be too anxious -you will fix it.
I suggest using Kies upgrade > emerency firmware method. Download mode is the key.

I went through the exact same problem with someone else's Note that I was upgrading, subsequently flashing.
The above process bring the phone back to 100% stock gingerbread.

Thanks all for the replies.
I was able to go to DEV Section and get the full AT&T ICS Rom. Used ODIN to get it back to factory ICS.
Then (with great care ) re-rooted it using ICS root stuff. I have it all in case anyone else needs this route. Else follow instructions above.
Thanks all. I think for now ICS is where this will stay. In fact Gingerbread was good enough except for not being able to use Chrome.
