I remember that the og EVO only had two point...until it was rooted to get at least 3 or 5 depending on hardware? Anybody tested it out?
Update: downloaded an app called "Dotty" from the market...I got up to 4

I have. It's 4-point multitouch enabled out of the box.
Not bad if you ask me.
I just fired up multitouch visualizer(it is 4 point) and noticed something kinda cool,It picks up touch inputs from all the way up by the htc logo and as far down as the glass goes. The only catch is you have to start on the actual screen and slide your finger on the black glass part.

Yea because the digitizer, which reads touch input, is a clear glass layer over the majority of the phones face. Usually when people break screens on these kinds of phones, they only break the digitizer since it's the first line of screen defense.

It may be hard to see in the picture, but my phone has streaks or ripples inside the screen. I noticed the problem day one before putting on a screen protector. Does anyone else have this issue or do I have a defective device?
If you're referring to the pyramid looking shapes "underneath" your screen that you can only really see from a side angle...that is what allows you to see the 3d images...if you're not referring to those...then we need a better pic, because there's too much going on in your current one to tell what could be a flaw

It's tough to see exactly what you mean, but I think I see what you're talking about. The flash reflection makes it difficult to see. Anyways, if it's not the screen protector causing it, then I'd probably say it's defective. I have no flaws or blemishes in my screen at all. I'd take it to Sprint and get it checked out.
normal...stop looking at your phone in unusable angels under bright lights and you should be ok and never see it.
I do apologize for the lousy pic. I was reading about the 3D tech in the screen and understand that is there. Instead of my screen being solid black when it's off, it has random marks that kind of look like stretch marks. In a dark room its unnoticeable however at work(where it's bright as crap) I can actually see the lines while the screen is on. Couldn’t find any info on this anywhere.
I had the same thing on my first E3D and the guy at sprint thought I was crazy. You can only see them at the right angle so they are not noticeable 85% of the time. When I got my hands on a second E3D and held it just right the guy saw the same thing and did a return. No problems with the screen on my new one.
Mine is evident at any angle. I hate to complain, but I'll have this phone for over 2 years so I think I'll convince my sprint store to trade it out again. First one had large dust, dead pixels, majorly tilted screen. For me if I didn’t notice it all the time at work then it wouldn’t be an issue, but I do.
My friend had **** appear under his screen.... I want to say it looked like liquid, but it was very uniform and the water sticker things had not been tripped. it could only be seen under bright light such as the sun. Needless to say he returned it, the store employee said he had never seen it before.

Slightly, but nowhere near as prominent and uniform as with the 3d. You had 5 bad phones homie!
Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback. I researched all over the internet and could not find a reasoning behind these so called water marks or stretch marks under the screen. It must have something to do with the way HTC melds the screen together. Anyway I'm going to the sprint store today to see if they will work with me as it is obviously a defect. Seems to be an extremely rare issue so far or no one has noticed. Unfortunately for me where I work we have very bright lights so I noticed it right away. As with any product there seems to be a few bad batches of these phones out there. Hopefully number 3 will be near perfect.
Here's a slightly better pic
Perhaps you could clean the screen and then post a fresh pic. I'm having a difficult time discerning smudges from what you're referring to.
Do you have a screen protector on your phone?
Me and 3 friends have 3d's. Every one has the same thing, if you look at them from the side, almost 90 degrees, you can see a texture to the glass, and it almost seems like you would be able to feel it, but I believe its just the gorilla glass resin.

We discussed those textures (see my first post in thread), but those are not what he's referring to
The screen was totally clean in the new pic. Yes I have a stick on screen protector and it has no effect on my problem. I realized I couldn't whipe the streaks out before I put it on.

lol.....I KNOW IT SOUNDS EXTREME, but i got my first one since launch...so yes, thru all the time up till i got my 3D i had 5.....i know 2 i dropped in paint at work....woo-hoo....LOL. hmmmm, i dunno it seemed to me that the ripples looks the same on both, but hey, i could be wrong.
EDIT....and im talking about the ripples....not scratches..i dont think scratched would be there by default
I would take it in. I can clearly see what you're talking about, and mine definitely doesn't have any kind of vertical streaking like that.
Okay, if the screen was clean in that last pic, I think I see what you're talking about now. The darker lines that almost look like a fingernail drew them? And you're sure they aren't between your screen protector and the glass? I'd take it back, that's not right.

I just checked my amazes multitouch points and I can only get up to 3 multitouch points 4th one registers but then all points dissapear, so solidly 3 points, this will limit gameplay. I know others have had issues with games as well.
...galaxy S II has 10 multitouch points so does my galaxy tab 10.1...shame on you HTC. I'm starting to see a lot of flaws on this phone as I go by.
1. screen bleed
2. camera flash bleed
3. camera lens not covered by backplate; more prone to scratches
4. multitouchpoint is limited
5. Screen: Don't know if it is a good fortified type of glass and HTC won't tell us: very easily scratched in my experience of having just over a month. compared to my older phones with no screen covers.
6.HTC will not release a lot of things needed for development where as samsung is much more dev friendly
7. battery life is not up to par with the sgsII, or other phones with 4g.
Don't get me wrong I still like my phone...but I'm starting to think HTC is starting to cheap out on a lot of things...
* I get 4 touch point on my phone - on both the two Amaze that I happened to owned.
* Scratches: I've read about your post regarding scratches even though you already carefully separated them from key chain and coins. Gorilla screen will stand up againts metal (keys and coins) but not a chance with quartz (7 on Mohs scale) What I think is your screen's scratches were caused by sands in your pocket. Do a little research on sand composition and on Mohs scale and you'll know the reason.
Also there are other physic factors one needs to taken into consideration when the screen can not live up to the hypes of Gorilla glass. No matter what manufacturer claimed, the glass will be break and/or scratches given the right circumstances, i.e if the forces applied on it are concentrated on a small area instead of spreading out evenly. Remember the trick we've seen on TV or on circus showing peoples laying their body on thousand of nails and still okay? I dare them to lay their body on just one nail ...
My phone also only gets 3 points when I am running a custom rom. If you try one of the stock roms xboarder has up you will get 4 working. I've been trying to narrow down what causes this problem on some of the phones.
I got 4 points.
About 10 points vs 4 points.
It is not a technical issue but it is more like a patent issue because of the Apple who got multi-touch point patent.
Other then that, I'm kind of glad that touch sensor works to very edge of the screen.

ya I know it stands against metal very well and sand and quarts, rock etc not so well, i posted the video on it...the reason is because glass is made of sand, glass cuts glass...I'm guessing sand in my pocket as well!!! I can't wait for my boxwave screen protector to come in already...I know all about gorilla and fortified glass, I started a whole thread about it and reasearched the heck out of it haha, search for screen scratch warning thread lol, it seems this phones screen is a little more prone to them though, I have been wearing the same clothes as I have when I had my nexus one, but getting much more deeper scratches and cuts in this glass. I don't go to the beach or park often to get sand in my clothes... little scuffs and scratches are ok but this glass doesn't seem to be as strong or something...with that said when I first got the phone I keyed the heck out of it, (30 day money from t-mobile and i specifically asked the guy there if this was gorilla glass)...key test left absolutely no scratch...there's a video of it as well...but sand and rocks can scratch it very easily.
as for the multitouch...I am just rooted with stock rom, and faux kernel...don't know whats going on...I might have to flash xboarders rooted stock roms...might also be something with the kernel. thank for my galaxy tab I play most my games on that, for now I won't mess with my phone too much. and try to play multitouch games on my tab. still dissappointed to see multitouch is only 4 points compared to 10. I believe microsoft had the first multitouch, even before apple...there's a patent war with all this stuff...
here's this from wikipedia: Apple has retailed and distributed numerous products using multi-touch technology; most prominently including its iPhone smartphone and iPad tablet. Additionally, Apple also holds several patents related to the implementation of multi-touch in user interfaces[16] Apple additionally attempted to register "Multi-touch" as a trademark in the United States — however its request was denied by the United States Patent and Trademark Office because it considered the term generic.
Going to point out who the heck needs more than 4 touch points on a phone? Sure, it's 4.3 inches, but it already gets far too busy with more than 4 fingers on the screen. :S

ever play tap tap revolution with a friend on an iphone very entertaining...you need six touchpoints for it to work correctly,
this also limits developers in what they can do with tap tap revolution on android, there is no multiplayer option for such reasons.
Ever get a piano app on your phone, and try to play 5 notes, or a guitar playing app??? they need more than 4 touchpoints.
just saying.
I S-OFF`ed my EVO 3D, flashed a custom recovery and a custom ROM (LeeDrOiD's latest), so I'm not on stock (if that's what's causing this).
Back in January, when it was cold outside (5-10 degrees), at times, after extensively using the phone outdoors (like 15-30 minutes), once I went into a warmer place (warmer by a few degrees Celsius, like 5 or so), the touchscreen was completely unresponsive. I could only lock or unlock the phone, but was unable to do anything else (which means using the touchscreen or capacitive keys, for that matter). I figured it may be because the screen was very cold or something...
I had to wait ~30 minutes for it to recover!
I figured that has something to do with the screen being somewhat covered by a very thin layer of water/ice or something... which rendered it almost completely useless (I was still able to drag the lock ring up a milimeter one time, out of ~20 attempts ).
----------------------------------------------------------
Now, it's almost April. It's warm here, alright, which means no more moisture outside (regarding the temperature, at least).
But there was drizzle outside yesterday, and I had to text someone. Several tiny water drops landed on my phone's touchscreen (not too much, covering like 1 centimeter in lenght), and the phone began to register mistaken touches...
The same happens when I try to use my phone with my fingers BARELY wet. I have to wipe the screen ENTIRELY to make sure it's not registering 10105909 touches all by itself...
This is ridiculous. Not even the HTC Desire (which had only 2 multi touch points, and even those, not so accurate) didn't have this problem! Nor the Desire HD.
Am I the only one?! Are you experiencing this, too?!

As far as I know there is a small current running on top of the screen. Any kind of moisture will make your screen go crazy. Thats why I use a screen protector, because my sweaty hand dont play nice with any touch screen phone like the Evo 3D

As a matter of fact, I do use a screen protector. I've used MOMAX Anti-glare, MOMAX Clear, and right now I'm using a no-name crappy sheet that makes the screen look all wavy and shyte... I'm gonna apply a MOMAX Clear again soon.
Still, that's not the issue. Screen protector or not, the issue remains.
If you ever had such problems, please tell me what device are you using. CDMA, or GSM (for Europe - golden or for US/Asia, like me - red)?!
Same here, even when screen is completely dryed out.. What can we do about it?

I cleaned the screen with my blouse after I've been playing on it outside for 30 minutes. Cleaning did nothing...
Yesterday, it was raining. Not too big rain drops, but I let about 20 of them to cover the screen, some were little, a few were huge. The screen performed wonderful (in the time I tested it : scrolling across the menus, typing a fast message, probably less than 20 seconds).
What the hell...
---------------------------
NO responses?! Come on, I can't be the ONLY guy this is happening to !
There are 2 common types of touch screens. Resistive, which respond to flexing a thin sheet of plastic, and capacitive, which responds to an electric current. Resistive is not accurate so no one really uses it anymore except on knock off Chinese tablets. We have capacitive touch screens, same as apple products and every other popular android phone.
Any kind of moisture will interfere with the touch screen. Even if the air is very humid. There isn't much you can do if you are having those issues. And all electronics have specific temperature ranges they will function in. I don't know what the evo is rated for, but I'm sure it's somewhere.
Best advice is to keep dry. And no, a screen protector won't do much to help.

I know... I just thought the 3VO might be faulty, since, as I said, the Desire and the Desire HD never had this problem only with a few water drops...

I was wondering if anyone else is having a similar problem. I have a vertical bar on the left side (not edge) that has no response to touch. I tried it even in recovery and it doesn't work. Do you guys have any solution other than changing the digitizer?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Nope. I had the same issue where the right 10% of my screen wasn't responsive. Took it to Sprint and it was a bad digitizer. They replaced the whole screen assembly since the digitizer is hard to fix on the 3d. Free for me with TEP, but it would have cost $35.
You can download apps that test the screen and find if you have dead spots or ghost touches. I myself had to lock/re-lock my phone twice to finish this post, cause mine is going bad. :-\

Within having this phone about 5days I tripped over the charger and my phone flipped over, upon picking it up I didn't notice it at first but there is a small I wouldn't say Crack, but it's like a slit going from the middle of the Verizon logo, down to the right of the phone. It's about one inch.. When looking at my phone It is not noticeable unless I slant it. Now I'm thinking about getting a new screen and this time a case.. I just would like help finding the right scren for this phone. I only need the plastic front screen. Unless I will need a whole new digitizer set. Sigh..

if i remember correctly you'll need to get the set - i believe the screen is glued to the digitizer and is nearly impossible to remove.
