Hello evry1...i am very new to this forum,,,and my question is basically for the Indian Users..
So i heard the indian version dont have any nfc chip installed on it??...Well so is for the UK users for now,,,but later they will have nfc models shipped,,,so it ll be a great irritation for those who bought it early,,is the situation same for the Indian users too??? i mean i know there is not much use for nfc in India,,but still i have seen what incredible things nfc can do,,,like pairing 2 devices for a very fast transfer(they have that video for Nokia N9 on gsmarena)....and more over many other phones are going 2 have the nfc chip(and their launch date is soon)...and i wont be able 2 call my phone having more features than theirs...
But i am so in love with this phone,,,and i am goin to buy it tomorrow or day after at the latest....so i want to know about the other problems,,,and whether m making a right choice or not??
like,
1)is the overheating problem so bad??
2)the battery life is a hardware problem or firmware??
3)how is the support for games so far??
4)the maximum size of game available for this phone??
5)is Wi-fi problem that bad??
6)is there some way to improve the camera quality(as even iphone 4's camera is better than sgs2,while it is only 5MP compared to sgs2's 8MP camera, which i think is due to high contrast in iphone's screen quality,so may b u get a better picture with sgs2 when u transfer them to pc.P.S-Don't get me wrong,I really hate Iphone)??
7)any way to improve sound quality(heard iphone's is a bit better)??
8)and finally should i wait for the nfc version(i seriously hope ur answer is no)??
PS-users from other countries may help too.... I ll be thankful.

Re:
1)is the overheating problem so bad??
Nope - even with WiFi and GPS on its nowhere near as hot as my N97 Mini. The highest battery temp I ever saw was 35 degrees C.
2)the battery life is a hardware problem or firmware??
Appears to be an Android 2.3.3 bug - WiFi direct, WiFi sharing, and the Android OS bug. The next FW may solve it
3)how is the support for games so far??
Not much of a gaming person sorry
4)the maximum size of game available for this phone??
Tons of them if your referring to numbers
5)is Wi-fi problem that bad??
Although the strength shown in the notifications area is low, the signal and range is good on Wifi-G
6)is there some way to improve the camera quality?
Its good enough as it is, I am an amateur photographer with a DSLR, so all I can say is there are limits to a phone's image sensor.
7)any way to improve sound quality(heard iphone's is a bit better)??
Its not bad, get some quality earphones and its fine with Poweramp
8)and finally should i wait for the nfc version(i seriously hope ur answer is no)??
I got the NFC version here in Abu Dhabi, dont see any point in having it though
Search around and you can find more info
EDIT: The only real problems that this phone has are the yellow colour down the left of the display and the battery drain bug. Some others have trouble with GPS too.
1)is the overheating problem so bad??
I have no overheating problem.
2)the battery life is a hardware problem or firmware??
Killing the WiFi Sharing app fixes a lot of that, but the Android OS "bug" is a problem with Android 2.3.3 that gets better with 2.3.4 if my Nexus S is any indication? In any event, managing your use of major consumers and killing/freezing apps that eat too much prevents it from being anything I'd cause a problem. 4 hours of gaming will kill any smart phone on the market outside of a BlackBerry Curve.
3)how is the support for games so far??
Excellent. Not quite at iOS levels, perhaps, but just a hair under, and the phone VASTLY outperforms an iPhone 4.
4)the maximum size of game available for this phone??
There is no real limit. Apps in the market can now be really big (over 50MB), plus they can store hundreds of megs on the SDcard or the 16GB internal storage. Dungeon Defenders on android is over 600MB.
5)is Wi-fi problem that bad??
I have ZERO wifi "problem". The bars are maybe too honest - it will visibly dip - but I get wifi everywhere around my house and garden, and speedtests show me consistently getting over 10mbps.
I start to get the picture that you do NOT hate iPhones - first, you keep aluding to problems as if they are proven - you don't ask "is there a wifi problem?", you ask "is the wifi problem that bad?". Second, this question and thje next one allude to areas of alleged iPhone superiority that do not exist. OK, maybe it's just a communication failure, no problem: a) The SGS2 camera, out of the box, destroys the results you get with an iPhone 4 camera. I had an iPhone 4 for around 11 months, and used it as my primary phone for around 5 of those months, and I assure you that this is true. b) The iPhone screen is woefully unimpressive in any conditions next to the SGS2 screen. It has a higher resolution, but I've yet to have that matter to me, while it suffers from INFINITELY lower contrast. I do not have any yellowing on my screen like some users complain of, so I can't speak for them.
7)any way to improve sound quality(heard iphone's is a bit better)??
I find the sound quality to be at least as good as an iPhone's in every respect. Using just the handset, it has a louder speaker and much better call quality in my experience. Through my two pairs of (stupidly) expensive earphones (Shure 535s and Klipsch x10i), I get music problems on my mostly MP3 and AAC libraries showing up before I start blaming the phone. The iPhone has much more variability in volume - there are like 12 steps in the volume scale in iOS versus 8 in Samsung Android, but the SGS2 is MUCH louder - 6 on the SGS2 is louder than anything offered up on the iPhone. Even with really good noise isolators (I use foam tips), you can't (or can barely) hear a movie on an iPhone over the sound of public transportation at max volume. Same movie file on the Sammy is OK at 6 and clear at 7, while being too loud at 8.
8)and finally should i wait for the nfc version(i seriously hope ur answer is no)??
I don't see why you would - they are going to release NFC on MicroSDs, SIMs, sticky tape you can put on the cover, basically everywhere. Why wait if you want it now? Can you use it?

first of all, thank u for ur response,,,,it helped me alot
And i asked "is wi-fi problem that bad" because i know its there,,,forum rules say that i shud search about my query first,,,,i read many thread(not all)and found that almost all the users complain about this..like wi-fi being switched off when screen turns off,etc...And u totally get me wrong,,I TOTALLY HATE IPHONEs.....i alwayz believed that an iphone is just a piece of ****(a costly one)...but recently when i was in a mobile store wid my friend(he is an iphone lover),we decided to take a same snap from both of the phones and compare the zoom level,,,,,And believe me sgs2's was better when i clicked it,,,but after full zooming on both phones ,,,iphone's was a bit better,,,(i really felt ashamed)...i wanted to know if i can solvethis problem thru some software or something,,,
Infact when it comes to samsung i hate every other phone,,,Currently i am using Samsung Jet,,,but its an old baby now,,,m going to buy sgs2..
thanx.

A small number of users have reported an anomaly in the shape of a coin on the screen, that could be what he's referring to.

Dude, I'd suggest getting the phone first and then looking for the solution for the problem. Right now different people have different problems. So you need to jump in the pool to see.how cold the water is.
In hindi we have a saying - Gaaon basaa nahi mangate pehle aa gaye.
And as Russel Peters once said - "Be a man, do the right thing" :-D

well, not the smartest thing to advise... Last time I bought Nokia N97 and that was the dumbest jump in water I've ever did, since then, I NEVER buy phones before reading reviews/forums/users points etc...
Same with HTC Sensation, most of them has issues with pocket Lint under screen, and I am more than happy I've read about it before buying, and could change my opinion and buy Samsung instead
Here is one answer bhai from my experience with the phone for two weeks. I had a desire HD for 3 months before.
1)is the overheating problem so bad?? - Yes gets very hot especially while playing games. I had to uninstall a few games like real soccer 2011 due to this. I guess games like that are not optimized for dual cores. The phone can handle heat but no one has any solid proofs of any overheating issues.
2)the battery life is a hardware problem or firmware?? - Indian version is having updated software. So no problem of battery drain. It drains battery at a much lower rate compared to DHD. You should not ask for more from battery though from the present day smart phones. Daily charging is a must.
3)how is the support for games so far?? - Excellent apart from the heating issue
4)the maximum size of game available for this phone?? - Stupid question?
5)is Wi-fi problem that bad?? - No problem with wifi for me. Dont worry. This should not change your decision against the phone
High contrast in iphone screen??? Dude.. Nothing betters OLEDs coming to contrast. Even iphone screen.... I personally prefer SGS2 camera. Iphone camera is practically non usable due to the flash omission, and produces grainy pictures. It might produce good images in the showroom where the lighting is perfect, but dont get fooled by that. Take a few snaps from outside the shop and you will see the difference.. Last week we were in a pub and the iphone guy could not even take a snap due to low lighing.
7)any way to improve sound quality(heard iphone's is a bit better)?? The accompanying earphones are not too good, but choices are there in plenty and cheap too.
8)and finally should i wait for the nfc version(i seriously hope ur answer is no)?? No.. Yes if you are planning to use the phone for more than 4 years. I remember showroom guys telling that the phone had 3G support as the biggest advantage five years back for the nokia 6600. No nokia 6600 users would have used 3G in india I reckon!! Even now 3G service is in its infancy.
Finally Touchwiz 4 would not stand a chance against sense, but the OLED is too good to be worried about Touchwiz in my opinion. If samsung plans to up the resolution any time sooner, wait for that phone.. else go for SGS2.
thanx alot guyz,,,
i am really very thankful to all of u for ur help,,,so just as i promised i got my sgs2 today...
and as far as i can tell ..for me-
1)i cant see any ovrheating till now,,,but may b that is due to the lack of any heavy games on my cell(i ws basically playing angry birds)
2)i cant tell about the battery problem so soon,,,as i just bought this phn a few hours ago,,lol
3)i can see alot of games on android market,,,and on some other websites as well,,,though i am sure i have seen more apps for galaxy s or captivate..
4)i ll post the max size as soon as possible,,,just let me find some good games 1st
5)i cant see any wifi issue for now,,
6)i ll try to compare it to my friend's iphone,,,and if what u all are saying is correct then i hope m nt gonna disappoint myself,,
7)sound quality is ok,,,though i wont compare it to SE music phones,,,or even samsung ones...
8)and as u can see i dint wait for the nfc version,,,lol
finally one more thing to add,,,,i dont have any problem with my screen,,,,no yellow spot or tint,,,or any kind of fadeness or anything ,,,even on minimum brightness,,,(it is possible that m missing something microscopic)...SO FAR SO GOOD...thanx again guyz,,
EDIT: ok,,now that i have used gs2 for a while, let me correct myself---
1)there is a bit of overheating,,sometimes(mostly after gaming) it becomes a bit hot for hands,,
2)Battery life is not good,,,but that is the case with most of the smartphones(especially dual cores),,,a fully charged battery last for a whole day with "average" uses(not if u play games alot,,or download data,,or surf through 3g or wi-fi)
3)Not all of the gameloft games(which arethe best hd games awailable on android) are supported(even some of the games from the games hub dont work),,,but according to gameloft they are trying to optimize games for this handset as fast as they can,,,and it will take some time,,,
for eg-N.O.v.A. is supported but not N.O.V.A. 2..though u ll find N.O.V.A. 2 on games hub......And some games work randomly,,,like I ws unable to play Modern Combat 2,,,but some of the users are saying they dont have any problem playing it on their s2,,,,while some, like me, are still unable to play it,,P.S-it is possible that i may b doing something wrong, though i doubt that...
4)i asked this question in the first place cuz i thought the larger the game, the better,,,and well, there are some 1.5 Gb or plus games available for android but they are still very few in numbers..
5)still no wi-fi issues,,,xcept that it drains battery alot,,again it is a dual core problem and not a wi-fi prob.
6)outdoor picture and video quality is supercool,,,i am really impressed,,,but i cant say the same for indoor snaps or vids,,,GS2's camera work poorly during lowlight conditions...even worse than iphone 4's...but surely u can not compare its camera quality while u r out or where there is more amount of light, where it works just perfect..( I lost and won a single bet due to this factor....plz dont ask me how)
7)like before,no sound problem for me..
8)NFC isnt just used for money transfer, blah blah, etc,,but there are many other uses,,,u can do cool things like pairing 2 devices just by touching one's body to another(like 2 mobile phones or bluetooth headset,etc)....although they are going to have a sticker solution but i am not it will be as good as the chip embedded withing the device,,,u can check that here-
http://blog.gsmarena.com/want-to-us...-enabled-handset-here-have-a-sticker-instead/
the most disappointing thing is that u ll be seeing too many nfc embedded devices around u from now on,,,and it will be a bit embarrassing that ur phone, which is the best of the best, doesnt have it,

and ofcourse another version of sgs2 itself is coming soon,,which will be even more embarrassing--

Anyways i am happy with this set,,,i would like to know ur opinion on my probs,,,Godspeed.

Hey guys, Since ATT just got the X10 I was wondering which is better. My contract expires in a few days so I have some time to see which I like better. Right now I'm using an iPhone and hating it. I want something with android.
I love SE, I bought an original X1 right out of the gates, so I'm leaning a bit towards the X10 but I'm seeing that it might not have any additional benefit over the Captivate other than the awesome camera.
Help please? I travel a lot and will be going to college soon so I need a phone that will keep up with me, all day.
why not the EVO 4g? much better than both, but if you don't like that one go for the captivate
ATT is the best around here. We literally get full bars everywhere lol! Ok, so that's one for the Samsung...
If you're going to be using your phone outdoors a lot, get the X10. Samsung has the better screen, but it's OLED so when you're outside, it maybe really hard to see. But X10 screen is good as well. If you're concerned about aesthetics, I think X10 is the best looking phone there is, otherwise go for the Samsung.
The x10 is a great phone but if the captivate is anything like the galaxy s then i would go for the captivate.
i am also looking at the two phone and also iphone 4 when my contract is expiring.
Things I like about the sony is the physical call and off button. Also, I think the phone has higher res camera and also 2 camera.
I think captivative overall has a better hardware: 802.11n, larger storage space, better music playback software, bluetooth 3.0. android 2.1
I know sony will upgrade to android 2.1 or maybe 2.2 and samsung is coming out 2.2. So I think the software is not a major issue now.
hard to make a choice between the 3 phones.

Once they reduce that capital letters SAMSUNG logo in front, I'll recommend it. But for now, I'll say go for White X10, cool design...
No its Super AMOLED and its very visible outside in bright sunlight.
To the OP, just determine what you need in a device and use them both in the store. For the record, the Captivates GPS is broken and there is no camera flash. The Captivate has features that the X10 doesn't have. However the X10 will receive some of those features in a future update such as 720P video recording and Android 2.1. The Captivate has these features out of the box. My advice is to do some research online and dont rely purely on our recommendation.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
the only thing going for the Captivate is the screen...and only when viewing media or playing games etc. As for reading text, the X10's screen is much sharper. The build quality is much higher on the X10 too, the Galaxies get scratched real easy, just read some reviews. For me, the Galaxy Captivate/Vibrant looks like it's trying to be an iPhone which is blasphemous in my opinion lol. Not to mention the fact that everyone in the world will own some form of the Galaxy in the coming months. So if you want to have a unique and very stylish device with amazing hardware, definitely X10 because after the 2.1 update (hopefully Froyo eventually too) the software side of things won't be any different...otherwise you'll be left with a scratched up iPhone wannabe.
Thanks for the advice guys. I played with the X10 and I was very impressed, I guess ATT only offers it in black (sorry man), but I agree it looks damn fine. The camera was awesome and the media features were great. But the thing that sold me was that everything is solid and doesn't feel cheap. Just like my X1i, everything felt good, not gimmicky like my iPhone or the Captivate. I asked the guy in the store and he said go captivate but I real liked the x10. The screen in the cap was almost obnoxiously bright and the icons were cartoonish and silly.
Now, my only concern is android 1.6. Rumor is it'll be updated, but for the next month or 2 can I survive with it? I used to be a WM junkie, but lately I have been spoiled by my iPhone so I don't know how android works :/
BTW, the north American version doesn't have 2 cams, only 1 and there isn't a physical call button. But atleast there is a camera button, I loved that.
well i do not know of any X10 with 2 cameras
I don t get this GPS problem, I dont have it on my Galaxy S, why don t you bring the phone back for repair? (or have you tried that already)
i guess I was wrong about the camera.
Based on what I read, 2.1 is coming soon and Sony may even jump to 2.2 but you never konw. Loosk like manufacturers are a bit slow bringing 2.2 to the market. it's quite surprising to see Sony has not yet release 2.1 or 2.2 at all because Xperia was out like last year as oppose to Captivative that was out reently.
it seems to me that a lot of these phone, the softwrae is wehre it sets one from another. Samsung did a decent job with captivate so is Sony. But sony really neeed to get 2.1 or 2.2 out so it can really take the power of teh hardare.

Lot of people are complaining about the GPS problem or low build quality of Galaxy S
Lot of people are complaining about low sound volume in call of X10.
You don't have problems with GPS.
I don't have problems with my X10.
This means this problems are not there?
Well, I bought the Captivate on day 1. I had to replace it on day 3. I just returned it on day 29 and picked up the X10.
My observations on the Captivate:
Great screen
Thin design
Junky buttons (don't like soft buttons so much)
Junky PC software
Serious Lag and general OS issues
The GPS is currently broken (does not work 100% as it should)
My observations on the X10 (2-days in):
Great screen (once you disable auto brightness setting)
Great looking (IMO)
Great buttons
Great media player (on phone)
Great companion software on the PC
I haven't really noticed any lag (either on the stock or unbranded ROM)
The GPS works amazingly quickly and accurately
The bottom line for me, and the reason I returned the Captivate, is Samsung has no real history of resolving issues with devices once they are released. I am fairly confident they will resolve the GPS issue but not so confident they will resolve all the other issues plaguing the device. Random resets, inability to wake the phone from a sleep and mysterious shut downs all happened to me. I also had problems with the battery and I just wasn't feeling too warm and fuzzy about Samsung. It's a shame really, it could be a great device. They also used some abnormal file system that is apparently the biggest cause of all the lag on the device.
The Sony device, on the other hand, seems much better thought out and seems like it will last longer as well. The screen is close enough between the two (for me anyway) that it's not really an issue. It's nice having the light on the camera because I can use it with a flashlight app. The additional fact that the PC companion software is so much better than anything I've seen for Android is also reassuring. It seems to me that Sony did a much more thorough job in the R&D stage and Samsung just designed a product that looks good on paper. I am very glad that I returned the Samsung device for the Sony.
BTW, I am not a Sony fanboy by any stretch of the imagination. I just honestly feel like it's the better device overall. It was a very difficult decision to return the Captivate as it does offer some very impressive specs, but in the end I need a device that is reliable and works.
a quick question for anyone who has used both phone, how are the mp3 players on either phone? Can you import your itune playlist without any issue? Also, can you see the lyrics like what you can do with iphone/ipod?
I am considering consolidate my mp3 player (ipod touch) and phone so I am hoping for one that will do everythign I can with my ipod. I konw iphoen does it but I am looking for options.
I really like XPERIA, Captivate looks cheap to me and I don't recommend.. yeah Android 2.2 will be nice on xperia .. hope Sony updates soon

You don't have problems with GPS.
I don't have problems with my X10.
This means this problems are not there?

I didnt have the problem with the low income volume of the X10 after the update .23 either...
Hi guys,
If you have or have had the X10 aswell as the Samsung Galaxy S, please give me some feedback in this thread.
Thanx
- Martin
my advice x10 coz sony ericsson more trusted mark and not big different in specifications
regards
I took a look to the thread, and everybody is saying the Galaxy is way faster and 100 times better, so there is no point for us X10 user to go there and tell that the X10 is better. There are a lot of threads here about the X10 Vs. Samsung ,Desire etc. I choosed the X10 with the best build, design, and almost if not the same specs as the other phones around.(and multitouch is not an issue for me).
So choose what you like.
Being a thread in the Galaxy S forum, I am aware that people there might be a bit biased. However, I must say that the Samsung does feel snappier so apparantly the better hardware aren't just there to look good on the specs. The display also looks good but I'm a tad worried about the pixel density on the Samsung after being an X10 owner (which I still am, for that matter).
However, you don't get better tests than from people using it every day, so I was wanting to hear pros and cons from people who have or have had both devices.
- Martin
EDIT: In the other thread, I've made a list of what I think are the pros and cons of each phone. However, I've only read about the Galaxy S and spend a little time with one in a store.
I'd wait for the 2.1 upgrade and see how they compare then.... I'm anticipating some significantly noticeable improvements...
My contract ends on september the 26th, so I can't get the new phone until the day after. I hope the 2.1 update is release at least a week before that. The same goes for the 2.2 update for the Galaxy, which is to be released soon(ish) aswell.
Hi if you put the thread in galaxy s forum I'm sure you will get mainly positive answers. I have a galaxy s and I will just list what I think.
First the bad
GPS is currently not very good, sometimes it works well and usually gets a fix very quickly but all too often it will randomly put you facing the wrong way if you stop in a queue and sometimes will not get a signal or lose signal
The screen although perfect size and excellent multitouch response uses a strange subpixel layout which when you look closely you can see the individual leds this makes the text fuzzy when small and also makes edges fuzzy (most people don't seem to notice this but I look close at my screen)
no camera flash - night vision mode is good though and prob gives better pics of outdoor night images than most - not good for close/indoor night stuff
The good
Im not gonna say a lot here (I'm sure you have already heard loads) but I will say this is the fastest phone I have used, no other android I've used is as fast, good at playing games and general use. It's a nice size - seems small even though it has a large screen (which contary to what I say above is the best screen I have used on any phone - just wanted to let you know it is not perfect - all amoled screens seem to have that effect)
Another big plus is that it's just about the most popular android phone there is and likely to be very well supported by Samsung and all of us.
It also has a few bonuses which you are unlikely to see on most other phones (tv out, free good apps from samsung, dlna, wifi tethering etc)
As you can tell the galaxy isn't perfect but it's the one I waited for so that's where my vote lies (especially if like me you like to play a lot of games many of the best need multi touch)
still you may have different needs than me, I suggest reading all the reviews you can find and trying them out if you can (try gsmarena for reviews I find them nice and detailed and generally unbiased)
EDIT - Just looked at your other post and see you already have a x10, my advice then would be to wait for the 2.1 update coming soon and see what you think, unless you have lots of money or can do an exchange relatively cheap then you might just wanna do that. Otherwise you might wanna hold out and see if anything even better comes out soon, im thinking 4.3" super high res dual core or 2ghz I'm sure they can't be too far off and your x10 should do until they do

very unbiassed reply..i'd like you to wait for some time... and compare both phones with upgrades.. every device has its pros and cons.. so know what you want out of a device and make your decision. possibly by that time something better than these two may come out in the market... theres no ending for this..
Id have to say that if the Samsung S had a decent flash (why they wouldn't include one is crazy), i would be pretty tempted to jump ship. They've already ported CM6 to it so the guys at Cyanogen must think its a worth while device and there support would be good enough for me.
galaxy is way better in almost every way. co-worker has it. played with it and from the first few minutes i knew that the galaxy s was a better phone. no question.
and every phone that came out or recently came out this year is moving on to 2.2 or even to gingerbread. x10 only going to 2.1? while 2.1 is better than 1.6, i'm still a bit disappointed.
The news of a psp phone intrigues me. If you like games I'd wait to hear more about that.

I cant speak for the actual Galaxy S model but I did have the Captivate for 28 days. I loved the screen and it did play Asphalt HD very well. The GPS was mostly uses less and I wasnt crazy about the soft buttons. The lack of a camera led or notification led is a real bummer.
I have to be honest though. The Captivate was the buggiest Android (oem build) I have ever used. There are ways to "fix" some of the bugs but the GPS and shut down/reboot seem to persist.
Every phone has issues but the Captivate had a couple that I just couldnt live with.
The X10 has been a completely different experience for me. Very well built and very stable OS. I am not sure if this is thanks to AT&T having a newer build or not. I have no regrets with switching to the X10.

+1 The led light and the notification led are very important to me. I agree with everything naplesbill said. Just to add a few more things, the screen on the x10 i think produces more realistic colors and thats with 16k atm so should be even better with 2.1 and 16m also text is sharper on the x10 vs the galaxy so if you browse and read things alot that is somthing to consider. The x10 is very stable and no lag like the samsung, its very well build and its beautiful. Overall great powerfull stable phone with unique looks. X10 hasnt let me down.
So, a little background.
Currently I have a Galaxy S. But for my own reasons I'm sick of it. I have been looking at midrange android phones that I can afford to buy so I don't have to sign a contract and the Ace stuck out to me.
Now, I understand that it will not be as fast or big as my S, but how is it for the money?
The things I'm looking for are like
GPS
Stability
Speed (though I know it won't be top of the line)
Everyone's favorite question: battery life
and if there are any specific limitations to the device.
Basically, is it a good all around phone that I can email, text, tweet, Google+, and listen to music during the day and not have to worry about it dieing during my lunch break?
Thanks.
I don't understand you but that's ok for me ;-)
The Ace when delivered has good hardware and with the help of this Forum I got a nice phone running!
Everything in Stock Roms is working already but after some fixes here and there it's, for the price, a very good phone.
The Batterylife isn't to amazing but a day from 7 to 7 with normal use as you suggested is well possible.
I'm using the Ace about 3 months now and still happy with it. My Son's Defy has obviously better Hardware but caused many Problems already so he stopped laughing at my "can't find HD games " Phone

uhhh i wouldnt ever recommend u ace if u come from sgs, u'll be highly disappoint. stay away. the battery is horrible. u can literally see the battery drops when it just sit there idling doing nothing.
btw how about galaxy w?
comparing it to ace, it had better resolution, slightly bigger screen, more internal memory, more ram, better cpu, better gpu, better battery and the list go on. best part is its priced at the same price as i buy my ace 5 months ago. lol
and my personal opinion is that for current android lineup, its the best value for each buck u spent on it.
Well, naturally I will wait and allow more response, but from what you two are saying I am a more hesitant as battery is one of my main concerns. I will need it to last a majority of the day at least as currently I only make it from 9a to about 5:30p before I'm forced to juice up. That is with gmail, a few texts, a call or two, Web, and about 30 min of music. And I will need it to perform well passed 5.a
Thanks for the quick responses and honest opinions.
it'll definitely stay alive at the end of the day if u dont use wifi and 3g data connection. but without both two, it wouldnt be a smartphone isnt it?
seriously when u start enabling wifi or data connection, u can see battery drops in minutes.
the longest my ace had ever survived without recharge is just 1.5 day. that when i dont receive or make calls, just couple of sms and maybe half an hour on market using wifi. just siting there idling doing nothing and it can just survive 1.5 day max.
the truth does hurt, but i need to admit that ace's batterylife is horrible.
A lot of people out there say that battery life is good, that they get more than 24 hours one charge. Well, it isn't good. With normal use for me (facebook, twitter, whatsapp and email; wifi or 3g always on) I get 10 hours max. And I need to be careful, I don't use it as much as I'd like it to.
If you are looking for a phone with good battery life, the ace isn't your phone. If I had known this, I wouldn't have bought it, that's for sure.
BUT: If we forget about battery life, it isn't a bad phone at all.
(Ah, wifi sucks big time)
The battery life problem is on all android phones buy on ebay battery with 1600 or better mAh and live without problems
I bought sga, not sgs because its android, iphone size, it have led, the photo quality is 3x better than sgs but sgs is little bit faster in android games(on all another apps they are identical) and it can record videos on 1080p and play movie files without lags but it dont have led and its big and it takes really bad photos
The gps and all other stuff are identical on speed etc

By led you mean camera flash?
The Ace is almost on every count, inferior to Galaxy S Captivate. OP you are a funny guy.
Having owned this phone for roughly two months I don't think I can recommend you switching from your SGS.
As a phone i.e call quality and general connectivity it is fine. GPS seems reasonably quick.
This isn't your first Android phone so you know the battery tricks - you will need them.
However, I reall advise against getting this. The two main readons are the MDPI screen and the woeful amount of RAM. The processor is somewhat lacking by todays standards too.
The Ace is, to all intents and purposes, now a low end phone. When it was released it was a reasonable mid-range device. Not so much anymore.
There are better optiond. I have a Huawei u8800 and a ZTE Blade as well as the Ace and would recommend both of those above an Ace. The ZTE Blade is superiour to the Ace in every respect apart from the processor but if that matters o/c. The u8800 is comparable to the Desire HD.
The Ace is functional, but obsolete. We will struggle to keep up to date software wise. CM aren't supporting the N1 so our chances are small and we would struggle because of hatdware limitations anyway. So basically I'm recommending you look elsewhere.
Yes camera flash, only for photo reason, size and led i bought sga not sgs..for author i can now recommend htc desire because its now cheaper than sgs and more expensive than sga
When i bought sga, then desire was more expensive than sgs, 90$
I dont have the Battery Problems, using my Ace at Home most time with Wlan, using Facebook Client Socialjogger and Friendcaster, little Call -activities much Xda app, Worldwar and sometimes FarmFrenzy, using Miren Browser for Inet researches sometimes and I always get my Ace over the day.
But I don't overclock and use Kernel from Ketut, Battery Saver and Governor "ondemand "
I am on KS9 Firmware.

Hey people... I had the Galaxy s 3 and wonder why there's no option for edge? Being on 4g 24-7 actually kills the battery bad! I truly feel that people with these 12 hours etc aren't using their phone
and another thing... the settings and in other parts of the phone, text is HUGE... the PPI is 306 i think and because the screen is 4.8, it takes away from the HD quality a bit.. the galaxy s 2 was annoying because of the huge font sizes.. and yes I know about the settings pertaining to font on the s3 but it's still huge when going to settings etc.. doesn't annoy anyone?
and another thing.. I dare someone turn on some music, (hopefully your base is working good), record a video with your gs3 and play it back.. you'll hear how muffled the sound is.. so terrible man

I don't actually have the phone yet, but did they remove the option under Wireless Settings --> Mobile Networks called "Use only 2G networks"? That's usually a stock setting. If they did remove it, guess it'll be available via CyanogenMod soon. :]

Did your previous smartphone have a decent microphone for video recording? In my experience, no smartphones have microphones capable of decently capturing bass... heck, even point-and-shoot cameras tend to be terrible at it now. I agree that it's lame, but this isn't a specific fault with the Galaxy S 3 as much as smartphone mics in general.
As far as battery life goes I have zero problems at all with it... I mean idk if your screen time is like 6+ hours with heavy usage or what.. I came from vzw and comparing it to any LTE phone I had on their network the S3 has great battery life..

and yes.. the galaxy s 2 for tmobile actually sounds way better.. i guess we'll just have to take it on the chin because previous galaxy s deices had better audio recording quality. It seems to be better on the US version than the international one. I may be getting the phone back.. i returned it because I was very unhappy this these particular issues. Sucks to hear that - but I can confirm that the original Galaxy S (Vibrant on T-Mobile) had one of the worst microphones I've ever used on a device. Any recordings I made at concerts were completely inaudible and unusable.
You returned your phone over poor camera audio quality? How often do you record videos with your phone? You could buy a 1080p-capable Canon PowerShot that takes better video/audio for between $100 and $150.

I do often and have many videos.. it's just convenient and fun to be able to use your phone to record videos which it's store for viewing later as well.
If i do get it back.. i will definitely just use my REAL video camera now to record stuff.
The large text is one the reasons ppl say touchwiz looks "cartoony". The icons have always been oversized, as well as the text, and combine that with amoled colors that look under life like, and things do look as if they're right out of a cartoon. Samsung has the best hardware available, but their UI could look a little more "mature". I think Samsung is aware of people's disappointment here though? Unless the one x makes it Tmo, I don't think you'll do any better than the gs3. But, you could give the note a try, the video on it is very good, and I don't recall the audio appalling me, but your probably more critical in that area than I am. Also, the icons and text look slightly smaller on the notes 720p display because of its larger size. Good luck Bro, I hope you end up with something you don't have to settle for.

I did a recording yesterday and its not bad at all. I think its the best so far compared to the s1 and s2.

May want to check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731603
I've had the xperia z2 phone for about 3 weeks now,and i must say its a pretty descent phone. But i cant help asking myself whats so special about this phone that i paid so much for?. Its indisputable that the z2 is a highly spec'd phone with the gorgeous screen and all,but when talking smartphone, its not all the internal specs that matters, the build quality does matter too, which IMO the z2 doesnt possess. I mean come to think of it,z2 is one of the most complained about smartphones out there, not to mention...
~The spaces found between the metal frame and the glass panel,in-which my phone also have + the back glass got replaced, making it more susceptible to water damage and what not!
~The issue of self cracking, although i understand its of minority, but com'on! Its worrying
~Overheating issues,i know this have been addressed already in several places,a phone like the z2 should be able to withstand some average period of 4k recording without overheating, not just few minutes.
~The inability for the other party to hear during calls...well,even though i was able to find a temporary solution to it by flashing a custom ROM,but do all the z2 owners with same problem have to flash custom rom as well? Also, not to talk of the absurd location of the mic.
~And Oh! Did i mention the camera? Well it has a good amount of MegaPixel but seriously, the camera software suuuuuuuuu*cks!! Most especially the superior auto mode. I find myself using the ProCapture more often now. And the other day,I and a friend of mine with an iPhone 5s snapped same photo, and he mocked me 'cos his images were better than mine.
Lastly,i know That no Smartphone is perfect, buy Sony,You could do better than this!!
Anybody on my side?
You cant judge an entire Brand off of one defective Unit
I have never had overheating from 4k
I never have overheating from gaming
The camera is perfectly fine, it isnt perfect in low light but not many phones can do as good as Z2
Self cracking glass? I dont understand how this posible, glass nor aluminum does not expand nor shrink enough to cause self cracking
Spaces, what spaces?
Yes on my previous defective unit had all these problems but since that defective device was replaced i have had no issues at all

You are too naive on this issue. Z2 isn't a bad device in any aspect. True, u have got a defective piece. But that doesnt make everyone else has. I'll answer all your questions.
1. Spaces are coz of defective units. Every manufacturers have this defective units problem when the demand for the phone is higher. You saw iPhone6(bendgate), S5(Overheating and some more), etc.
2. Self cracking? Hardly that's an issue. I haven't seen that in common. Its a rare issue which is likely to occur only @worst case scenarios.
3. My Z2 only heats up when Camera/Games are running, which is normal on any phone. Need i remind u other devices are bulky and include heat sinks which reduce heating and all Xperia's are slimmer than any other brand compared and yet built tough to survive. All slim phones heat more, but in Sony i have never seen an issue caused of heating(Been using Sony mobiles since 2011).
4. About 4k recording, last time i tested 4k i was able to hit 67 mins with custom thermal settings and was using DoomKernel on 314 fw. Device was on 67 degrees max. Still nothing happened. All devices that support 4k heats n this feature can be only used for a temporary time, provided Sony gave max time of usage of 4k.
5. Call problems? Again, since u might hv had a defective unit, the speaker might be faulty or u might have done something wrong with some mods installation or something.
6. About the Camera, PLS LEARN TO USE MANUAL SETTINGS. All phones in Auto mode SUCKS BIG TIME. Even the phones with best camera's. Manual Settings gives u the best results. Ask any professional photgrapher and prove me wrong(I challenge u). BTW i have seen Z2 producing best camera results after Lumia(The one with 41mp). If u doubt me, look at this thread.

Tell me all those snaps by our Z2 users are LAME.. :silly:
Like Envious_Data said, u cant judge an entire brand jus coz of a defective unit. U might be a lil unlucky, but that doesnt mean SONY isn't a good brand. From my experience, Sony has been the PREMIUM device manufacturer unlike most of the brands.. I suggest u do a lot of reading and do a lot of research and experiment with ur device b4 erasing it off..

-Yes, the spaces are real problem as Sony is already guilty about this from the previous phones. Luckily mine does not have any but that does not change the fact that they exist on many phone
- No idea about that one as I only read 1-2 things about it and never faced it in reality (me, my brother and my sister's husband bought 3 Z2s together and than my sister got an Z3 and none had any problems so far, so no experience on this one)
-Overheating is not an issue about daily usage or even heavy usage. It only matters on video recording because when video recording not only CPU cores and GPU being used at the same time but also camera processor (I don't know how this one is called) is heavily working to "catch" all that detail (simply taking 30, 4MP photos every single second and has to catch the light and decide for each pixel). Other than that I have not witnessed overheating cousing disconfort or slowing to phone down (I tried playing games more than 2 hours).
- Again, I haven't experienced this either. So no comments here.
- Camera software is really good actually, every setting is there but raw format. Only bothering thing is the AI which is supposed to choose the right settings. It behaves too "human-like" and "emotional" thus resulting some unrealistic color reproduction sometimes. So if you have time (Hope it's not a bird that you are trying to catch) and patience, it's best to make manual setting.
Anyway, apart from the subjects you mention, Let's compare what the "rivals" offer;
LG: there is G3. unnecessarily high screen resolution with a result that is not any better than Sony's screen thus also resulting worse battery life and more waste of GPU power. Although I like the design, and the placement of the buttons to the back side, very much; Sony has more premium materials and better camera with better results against the OIS, laser focusing camera of LG's.
Besides, G3 comes with two different amounts of RAM which makes me take the company as "disturbingly arrogant after the succesfull Nexus 4,5 and G2 and quickly forgot the days that they were punished by the customers' wallets because of locked bootloader of Optimus G and other unsuccesfull phones". Still, they choose to make things harder for developers after a very developer friendly G2. I believe there is no match in this land to Sony.
HTC; One (M8). HTC has been trying to bring some changes to the game since long time with their Beats Audio and other audio projects. They also tried to change things in the camera section too. I can't say they are doing bad things but I believe 20.7MP is still has higher capability of catching the light better than dual 4MP, bigger pixel camera. And I also believe (and tested) Sony's sound capabilities are better than HTC's when it comes to headphones (which is what is really important for a true music lover in my opinion. Who can truly enjoy the music from a mobile devices speakers? Want real music, use the jack)
On the chipset performance section, One (M8) is still not a rival to Sony's Z2. Not talking about the battery, it's 2600MAh.
Besides (I don't know if things are different from my One X days) HTC devices come with an extra security to try to prevent you from unlocking bootloader and saving themselves when they need to honor the warranty. After losing my patience over my One X's waiting for an S-OFF solution, I run away from HTC and never looked back (I can't even consider Nexus 9, thinking Nvidia and HTC coming together is like another Saw movie, it scares me). In a world even jailbreaking is legal that is too much for an Android user to accept.
Let's come to Motorola/Google; Nexus 6. It's a great rival, an honorable one. And maybe the only one with the ability of putting a real fight. Still, with that 6" screen it's not everyones cup of cake. Design and the specs are gorgeus, so is the screen. But it's big. I came to Xperia Z2 after a long time Note 2, then Nexus 4 usage and it feels right with 5.2" screen. This one is about preferences though, not the actual spec comparison.
Nexus 6 becomes a real deal with it's AMOLED screen (not calibrated by Samsung thankfully), water ressistance, best CPU&GPU and it's cutting edge software. However, when it comes to one-hand compatibility, MicroSD card expantion chance, camera and soudn quality Sony still has it's advantages.
And finally Samsung; S5 and Note 4. I guess I should take Note 4 into account as it's newer and better. Samsung has fingerprint sensor as different from it's rivals. A nice one to accept.
I understand that Samsung is a hardware making company. So they have to create and sell their hardwares and it's easy to see Quallcomm dominated the market since the Nexus 4 attack. Google did this to unify the market. Since the S4 Pro evey Quallcomm chipset has great similarities on their softwares and drivers, mostly their performance vary. This helps developers to measure their fresh-written apps/games on 1 or 2 devices and easily make sure they will run on many devices out there. It sounds good right? Well, Samsung is always bringing their SoCs to the market and always trying to push the limits (sometimes by cheating on benchmarks). On the raw power side, that could seem as a good thing but on the software side it messes things. As a big part of the market, almost every developer has the feeling to make their game/app compatible with Samsung devices. But they come with different SoCs and Samsung refuses to share their own chipsets' source codes. So they just make everything harder for developers. I guess we all know that a well optimised software is always better than the highest hardware.
One more thing about Samsung, they are first company to open their bootloaders to the public and shared every necessary code on their Galaxy S days. This is how they got so respected and made all that money. So they still have the unlocked bootloader but with some ir-reversable flagging system that flags you if you alter anything as small as a rooting attempt to your system. And then, they claim you out of warranty. Besides, as they refuse to share their source codes for their hardware, most developers have really hard time preparing custom ROMs or early fixes etc. for Samsung phones. So basically, Samsung tells you that "you have a phone which comes with an unlocked bootloader so you can do whatever you want with it.........If you can"
If you are a fan of Samsung's software and policy than it's a good semi-independent eco system in Android world. The S-Pen is also good. However I can not take them anymore after the Note II's hard days, waiting for a simply working AOSP ROM.
I know there are other Android companies but these are best-known ones globally and after that comparison I believe Xperia Z2 started to seem better in your eyes. If still not, I can also remind you;
-Sony is the only company which update kernels too,
-Sony is the only company which provides the AOSP code for their devices (the other compaines rather selling their devices as GPEs but apperiently Google has taken this idea down)
-Xperia Z2 has the best music experience throught the headphones among it's rivals
-One of the best (If not best) cameras out there
-Has that DRM keys problem for the "discoverer" people like us but thanks to our developers there is cure to that.
Let me start by saying You guys got me abit wrong. I didn't write all that based solely on my personal experience with the phone. Trust me,I've done some good research and found out that vast majority of the issues encountered with by the xz2 users revolve around all these problems. I understand my phone could be one of the defective units sold,so you saying that the thousands of users who complain about the same set of problems in different forums all bought the defective units? I dont think that would make any sense.

I dont think the call problems i faced have anything to do with the mic,as ive stated,i solved the problem by simply flashing a custom rom(eXistenZ) into it. But Hey! Not everyone would want to root their phones or flash a custom rom just to fix the basic function of a phone!!

You're definitely wrong about this! Not every's phone Auto Mode sucks. Coz iPhone's Auto Mode doesnt suck as much as it does on xz2,(not comparing iOS with Android by any chance)and trust me,it produces some descent shots for the on-the-go photographer like me who wouldn't want/have to temper with manual settings, perhaps i dont know much about it

It's a little annoying you created this thread and expect people to agree points substantiated with poor arguments? So what's go great of the S5? Exploding batteries, laggy UI?! M8, the "awesome" camera???
Everyone phone has its flaws, but sadly, the those mentioned for the Z2 are mostly invalid. Overheating won't happen unless you use 4k. Dropped my phone numerous times and not a single scratch on my the glass panel. My unit screen is aligned accurately. I don't know what you're trying to get out of this thread? Or you're a keyboard warrior paid by Samsung?
And how old are you? Your post is riddled with smileys and stuff. If you find this discussion funny, please do not start this thread, you're wasting everyone's time. And your best friend mocked you because he presumed the iPhone takes better photos than the Z2 (not true)?? Such maturity.

The thing is Sony started to manufacture phones themselves since Z2 and before that they had a client tied up manufacturing the units. Since they started their own, they had a setback, a lot of defective Z2 units and Sony did agree to replace the defective ones with a proper unit and they did(One of our RC's got his Z2 replaced like 4 times). So when u get a proper unit, u won't be seeing any of these issues. All Z2's having batch nos til 14w21 are defective in one or the other way. Some are major defective and some are minor. Batches after 14w25 are clean as a whistle, aka no defects even if u search with a magnifying glass.

I am on a non-rooted phone right now. Still 4k ran for half hour without problems. Although u don't seem to accept the fact that 4k is still kinda in the initial phase of the mobile market. Smartphones require more improvements which will come in the near future.

Android doesn't support RAW exif until Android 5.0. With Lollipop, Image processing changes drastically. But for the better of the performance. Although i disagree with u on this. I even linked u to the pictures thread, did u see it? Did u see atleast 10 pages? I was impressed by the Z2's Camera capability even with 4.4.4(KitKat). On any phone, Auto Mode isn't recommended. Manual Settings are a MUST. If u say otherwise, then the whole photography concept is WRONG. (Which isn't). Even average users use Manual Settings pal, no one uses Auto mode anymore unlike very few.

Again, you're able to notice issues nobody else have. Vibration intensity? Its more than normal. Its like 10% of what my Nokia 3310 caused. Now that's what u call an Earthquake, Z2 is fine. If u feel otherwise, you should consider selling it and go for other brands. That's my suggestion. But i'm pretty sure you're gonna come back to Xperia section itself. You should do more research and find facts unlike some sites only provide false stats n reviews.

Totally agree with that bro @lee480
Kinda useless if you ask me, why such people open new threads like this, they can read the specs and informations on google but for some it is hard to find and it is also useless to compare different devices like Sony v.s. Samsung or any other brand with eachother, every device have his own abilities, so if some dont like the Xperia Range step then over to another one, so they dont have to bother us with they frustrations, simple as that !
Sony is just the best in my eyes and i use it for years and i see and feel the improvements what they bring to us and i dont have any complainings on that.
Sony rocks !!

I switch from nexus 5 to z2 hopin it will be on higher ends of things but it turn out to be worse tha N5. The only pro it has over N5 is the screen size and battery life. The camera on z2 is awful. I can take my N5 out and take pics with perfect clarity and brightness in dark restaurant. With my z2, it takes yellowish pictures and dark front camera. I wish I never brought it and now im stuck with it

sorry about your unit you should have it replaced like what others have suggested.
the z2 for me is quite the looker (even compared to z3).
- i don't have the gap issue. my build number is 14w34.
- self cracking? been using it for 3 months now, not a single crack since. (also on tempered glass back to back).
- overheating is normal. we just have to deal with it. especially with 4k and some heavy gfx games.
- mic/call issue? i don't have it
- camera software sucks? if you can flash a custom rom, then surely you might have heard of xposed? not running 20mp superior auto? i usually photograph sceneries and my experience with the z2 has never been more awesome.
*cough, shameless plug *cough : http://instagram.com/cryogenix
not to mention, manual mode is there plus the many other camera shooting modes like background defocus (which is super awesome) and the likes.
and lastly, waterproof (*resist) nuff said.
the only downer for me is that warranty doesn't cover water damage but hey, that's another issue.
my two cents worth
From june 2014 till yesterday when i got my last replacement its 4 UNITS REPLACED for one year, all these faults happend to me , first was the selfcracking backplate , then on the next unit people were unable to hear me , and it backplate opened by itself and wasnt waterproof anymore, so 2days ago got my 4th replacement...its good from one side that you buy phone and after almost year you got still new device, buuuut guys thata not acceptable after all these faults with the 'Z" anf Sony just didnt learn their lessons, same faults on the flagships each new year, dont say to me all these bull****s thats its normal, because its not normal to replace 4 units for 1 year...

Soooo can you report a thread on xda for being useless and a waste of the interwebs?
If you want to complain I suggest you should head over to the sony support forum to vent your frustration. This may have the unintended benefit of someone seeing the rant that could help.
I have to agree that sony z series main weakness is camera software. But did you try used other camera app? It might help you anyway, it is better to have a software deficiency rather than lack of hardware feature. From z to z2 im happy it had improved alot problem only is other oem had improved alot also. Anyway hope sony outshines this. Cause there are no drastically added features in smartphone.
