Dropbox Contacts Backup - Titanium Backup Pro - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently updated to "Super Clean version 2.9 - EB01/EC16 Froyo leak root+Froyo Clockworkmodwith MALWARE protection". Don't worry about it being older or anything, we'll fix that once we get the contacts fixed. Regardless, I backed up my contacts to Dropbox with Titanium Backup Pro when I did this, as I didn't want to lose those, but that was it. I tried updating it on my phone, but nothing happened. First I only restored data, then I restored app + data (put older app on?), and nothing. I moved the files from Dropbox to my phone, the Titanium folder and just downloaded, and haven't been able to open them up with an app manager or restore them with TBP.
Help?
EDIT: Okay, not exactly sure what I did, but I got it. Opened up Astro, extracted the file there, tried to run it, said failed, then contacts magically appeared. Not sure how, but they did and I am happy! Guess this is a lesson for me to backup contacts via Google as well! Only thing is I can't use the return key to exit, I have to use the home key. Not sure if it was like that before or not.
Now if anybody wants to recommend me an OS update, feel free.

Question about Restoring with Titanium Backup

I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?

Switching Aria's, need help

So I am switching Aria's, first time doing this with an Android phone. So I basically want to know what is the easiest way to transfer data and apps? I tried using Astro to transfer just apps, from a Droid X to my old Aria but that didnt seem to work. I'm receiving a new Aria very soon and wanted to transfer my data/apps from my old Aria. Oh yea, can I save my rom image as well and transfer? I'm running attn1's liberated rom, not that latest version but not sure if version matters. Thanks.
Is a nandroid back up all i need to do? Which I believe copies all my stuff?
I believe you can use titanium backup (free from market) to backup the app apk's to the sd card. Then transfer the sd card to your new aria. Re download titanium backup and restore apps to new phone. As long as you don't change save locations it should work pretty easily.

This. I just did it for a friend on his MyTouch and it worked flawlessly Only thing that could be an issue (Not sure, I may have missed it, but I don't think you mentioned if you were rooted) is that Titanium Backup is root only as far as I know.
I can confirm, and yes I was rooted on the old Aria and just rooted the new one, that Nandroid backup/restore worked for apps, data, and rom.
So this is my next question. If I now want to try a new rom. I dont think a complete backup/restore of everything is what I want to do. So what is the best way to just save data/apps, wipe device, install new rom, restore data/apps.
If you can suggest me an app, can you also please post steps as I tried titanium and astro file manager and wasnt sure what to do. This may also help others that arent experienced. Thanks again.
Good to know
Again for this I'm going to suggest Titanium because that's what I used to switch from the Liberated Aria ROM to the Clean Eclair ROM.
1. Open Titanium Backup (Make sure your MicroSD is not in Disk mode if plugged in)
2. Tap Backup/Restore
3. Hit Menu > Batch
4. Select whatever action you need.
I believe the 4th option is "Backup all user apps and data"
Should you complete this backup and time passes between the backup and the flash and you want to backup the changes, a little farther down you can select "Backup all new apps and versions" or the "Redo your old backups" (older than 3 days if I recall correctly). System data I believe doesn't have one of these "new" options, but there is an option to back it up independently of your apps.
When you boot up into the new ROM, simply follow the steps again, but this time scroll down to the blue "Run" options, and select the "Restore all missing apps + system data".
That's pretty much the gist of it
Thanks for that, I will try tomorrow and report back.
Ok, so I updated my new phone to the latest attn1 liberated rom(thanks for your work btw, looking forward to next release
I restored all my apps and data, but I noticed some things were not restored correctly. Like my swype for one. My email accounts dont seem to have correct sync settings, if any at all. I think I might have to delete/add email accounts again to get them to sync correctly.

Titanium Backup restore problems...

I was trying to do a restore with Titanium Backup to restore apps and data and everything in the batch list is greyed out with a line through it.. what gives?? So, I am unable to restore any apps. I am using the pro version, so I don't see what I paid for.
Can someone enlighten me on this. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to download something else?
thanks.
I believe you have to install the app first, idk but i did that with skype and got my data back
Sent from my X10a using XDA App

Greyed out with a line through them items are the apps that are not currently installed.
If you click on them, it should give you an option to restore, providing that you have backed them up before, of course.
Also, in batch mode, you can restore them all -or chosen ones- at once.
Did you expect to just open the app and your phone go back to the way it was before?
i have the same problem
it restored just few of them automatically
i believe i have to manually install the rest and then restore just the data
but isn't that stupid?
Has anyone found a way around that?
the developer said something about fixing the market link with market doctor option, but that's in the paid version
I spoke to the dev about it actually and he said there seems to be an error with my TBU, so I need to re-install and erase the backup folder and try and backup everything again and verify. I had to redo everything manually.
Thanks for the help though guys. I appreciate it..
I actually just removed TimeScape and a bunch of other useless (to me) stock apps. I did notice as well when I clicked on a greyed-out item that I had uninstalled, there was no restore button.
So I would have to manually restore everything I had backed up, delete the folder, and reinstall?
Hardly seems worth it. I would just reflash if/when I have to restore.
Is there any way to restore all applications with "one click restore"?
I'm getting tired of pressing accept-done for every applications.

yes...buy pro version
I am moving from a TB to the GIII, and am seeing the same issue. Only my installed apps are greyed out. I've copied a new one over, put the card in the other phone backed up and no change. Pretty strange. Time for a little googling...

com.google.android.talk.apk

Rooted SGS2 (with S2root) on Three network - kernel KI8, PDA KI2, CSC KI2
Backed up Talk 1.3 with titanium backup (not pro), uninstalled, cannot restore. titanium backup just sits on "restoring", even left it for 20 mins, cant even cancel it i have to close with task manager.
3 seemingly related titanium backup files:
com.google.android.talk-20111209-015957.properties
com.google.android.talk-fabd85cd35eb7dca08bec6aea0e6c41e.apk.gz (containing the apk)
com.google.android.talk-20111209-015957.tar.gz - (containing signinginactivity.xml)
com.google.android.talk.apk is still in the system\app folder, though nothing by that name on the titanium backup list, appears as "Talk 1.3" and uninstalled. if i delete the titanium backup files, the uninstalled app name changes to com.google.android.talk and talk 1.3 disappears.
Tried running a copy of talk.apk on the phone, didnt install, tried copying it to system\app and resarting: nothing. didnt show upanywhere as an installed app.
I thought it was something else and I want it back. Whatever changes i do, i still see the gtalk status next to people's names in my contacts/text message list, online/away etc. but no app in the app list. I can't work out what titanium backup did.
I think you should have booted to recovery and wiped cache partition and dalvik cache then rebooted and tried again.I dont think it was a good idea to have deleted the backup files cos the backup you made is most likely gone. You might have to reflash your firmware to get the stock app back you deleted.
hmm
I have a copy of the backup files on my desktop, what can I do with them? And is com.google.Android.talk.apk all there is to it? I have no talk.apk, no talkprovider.apk, no gservices like other people have mentioned.
boot into ClockworkMod recovery and flash
gapps-gb-20110828-newtalk-signed.zip
from
http://goo-inside.me/gapps
+1 thats the way to go
good call.that should do if your missing everything else.
I really don't think this was a good idea. Like I said before i still saw peoples talk statuses next to my normal contacts, some part of the stock app was still there. Now I get constantly disconnected in the new app and it seems to sign out when I back out of the program. What can I do with my titanium backup files instead? They are in .gz format but cwm flashes zips, I know I can convert just not sure if its the right thing to do.
I've also read that talk is part of the gmail app somewhere
P.s. Sorry for late reply, was getting my head round installing cwm, unrooted with s2 root then changed kernel to cfroot ki8
Or is there at least a way to reinstall the ki8 firmware that kies gave me...and would that even help
just incase
just incase anyone reading wants to know the real answer, it was to reinstall the official firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
then re-root with CF-Root from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
all stock apps are back including talk, all my apps and settings were left untouched.

[Q] Titanium Backup doesn't see my backup folder in Dropbox

I properly configured it after I flashed a new ROM and TiB just can't find the backup in my Dropbox. I can't find the answer but it seems other people have the same problem. I really don't want to have to download all the individual backup files and reinstall my apps one by one. That's not why I bought the Pro key for TiB. So...does anyone know how I restore my apps from my backup?
Edit: After 4 tries of uninstalling and reinstalling, apparently, you just need to hit Run in the Schedules section and it will download it from your Dropbox.
Edit: So it appeared to download all my apps but it still wouldn't let me actually restore the apps or data...
Edit: And it somehow managed to get itself to work. Problem unintentionally solved.
