So, I don't know if anyone is having this problem, but I sure am. When I'm video chatting, the sound output is VERY low, to the point that I have to put the phone all the way up to my ear just hear someone talk to me. But I can hear myself echo on their end. This happens with Qik and Tango. And I can't hear people through my headphones when I plug them in.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Yup, I've notice when I tried to Qik (video chat) with the wife that the volume was SOOO low we couldn't even use it.

I experience the same issue. I found that if you tilt the phone back and talk directly into the microphone you can hear marginally better. This defeats the purpose of video chat. Is there a way to turn the microphone gain up?

I think were kinda stuck with what we got.The speaker in the back seems extremely weak..I have Power Amp pro and it has a built in pre amp..I turned the preamp up to make the speaker louder and the quality that came out of the speaker was not good.
Sent from that EVO3D Thingy...I need an asprin.
I'm not saying they're having trouble hearing me. It's me having trouble hearing them. I don't know why, but I can't hear them unless I put the back of the phone up to my ear when it's turned all the way up.
Video chat with a speaker on a 3vo is a joke. use a headset if you need to do it.

When I plugged my headset in, the sound didn't even go through it.

I vote speaker kaput. Sorry to hear that, man.
So I have been looking through the forums and havent been able to find anything on this issue yet. the speaker is really loud on this phone and I like that ans sounds great when playing pandora and stuff but on games and some other programs there is extreme static, you cant hear it all that much when you have the volume up and the phone far away from your ears, but if you put the phone closer you will hear a lot of feedback it sounds like and tons of static I was just wondering if this was normal and other people were having this issue as well or if it was just me. Also if there is a way to fix this and someone knows and help would be appreciated.

Its a better speaker than the EVO
Louder and deff crisper sounding

Mine has no such static.
MoPho speaker is far better than the Evo 3d, Evo 4g, and Nexus 4g speakers.
It's the best I have had on any cell phone. Loud and clear, and the speaker phone works well too.

play a notification tone. Its sounds like older stereos when you would turn it real high and get that white noise....happens before and after the tone. Notice it more in headphones but not while I am listening to something.
My theory is has his does not incorporate 0 bit muting.
I am rooted do you know of a program that supports the stock photon Kernal, that we could change the audio properties like the voodoo ones for the nexus

Having been around Motorola for 15 years now, they've always had some of the best speakers and earpieces in their phones. I'm not personally saying other models are bad or anything of the sort, but when I open up a Moto phone, and see those HUGE round familiar speakers, I just know Moto took the time to put some awesome hardware in here.
You've got to remember, Motorola was (and still is) a company that produced and manufactured walkie talkie's from long ago, the audio needed to be heard and that still stands up today. I expected nothing less.
And not only that but the drivers on the circuit board that run that audio are amazing. Case in point, I personally have a headphone amplifier hooked up to my Photon, and it drives and feeds that audio into that amp very well, and sounds crisp, clear, and amazing through it and a $200 pair of headphones I got on sale. Even w/o the amp, listening to podcasts sounds very clear compared to other phone models I've done this with.
If any phone could ever replace a stand alone mp3 player, it would be a Motorola. I'd say it's closer to Cowon quality audio, and anyone who's an audiophile knows Cowon is a top dog in that industry for best sounding audio.
I agree on music and things the audio is great but like CNET TV app you tube and some others I hear the hiss maybe it is just poor audio from the apps them selves oh well not that big a deal just seeing if anybody else was noticing it.

Mine sounds really pretty good, but I have to have it halfway before I really hear anything. At full it is OK, but I think it should be louder. Is there a setting somewhere? Does anyone else think it could be louder still?
So I finally found the answer to my problem it was the audio effects that are under the sound menu that was causing the static it was being over amplified, turning it of made it quieter but still sounded great with no static.

static
I found enabling HAC (hearing aid compatibility) in call settings caused static when I went to speaker and would not go away until I ended the call.
It was bad as I like speaker phone.
Disabling HAC solved the problem.
Everyone says my mic is AWFUL, anyone else got this issue?

I've recorded concerts and videos with my prime, the sound is very good.
Try to clean them ...
I actually did an A/B test with the internal mic vs. an Electro-Voice RE-20 (broadcast quality mic) through a Tascam iXZ audio interface, and could barely hear the difference. It was surprising to me.
I will say that the internal mic does distort at a fairly low volume, though. I'd say it's relatively unusable at anything over about 85db.

I use skype a lot everyone says the mic is not only quiet but also sounds like there is a fan on/fuzzy/interferance and it sucks. I have to use earphones with built in line mic or switch to using my phone or pc for microphone use...

it could be a problem with the skype app tho.. front camera when taking photos works just fine..
I took some video with it and it looked and sounded fine. BUT, Skype, that's a whole other boat load of ..... stuff. It sounds and looks so bad I took it off my prime. Gtalk not much better and forget yahoo messenger as it won't let you download the plugin for video calls. You get told it's not compatable.

I use Skype all the time and have never had any complaints.
So I noticed this watching YouTube today. With headphones in, when the audio gets to pretty low levels the sound to the headphones cuts out, then when audio gets louder it cuts back in, ususally a tenth of a second or so late.
Anyone else notice this or know of a way to disable this "feature".

I can honestly say I've never seen that happen and for some reason this is a phone I watch way too much Youtube with.
anyone else have any experience with this?
This happens to me when I watch a video on netflix while on headphones.
I notice that when I turn off the beats audio setting, the sound never cuts out.
happens to me when wearing headphones and listening to Audible
Beats Audio
I have this problem too. I was guessing it was beats audio, but I hadn't tested it yet. But according to some guy before me, that's the problem.
tl;dr turn off beats audio
Reason I ask...
Whenever I put a call on speakerphone, no one can ever hear me.
And I just now noticed the couple videos I took with my DNA are only playing audio out of one channel (right).
Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
And I know about the noise cancelling mic...
Curious if there is another mic (third) inside that is defective or I just have a bad flash on my rom.
I believe there are 2 one on top and one on bottom of the phone.

sounds like a defective mic.
Mic works on calls without speaker phone on, voice recorder works, video audio records, although only one channel...

sounds like it uses one mic on the call and would normally be doing sound canceling as well but its dead and that happens to be the mic used when on speaker phone. That would also explain why your getting mono recording but to be sure in video options in the camera is stereo sound checked?
Speaker phone works amazing for me on this. Must be a defaulty device?

Yea, stereo is checked.
Might have to deal with it... Not really wanting to go JTag route on a replacement.
Ugh... spoke to HTC. Apparently the mic for speakerphone calls and for stereo recording is located up top with the noise cancelling mic.
So new question, how hard would it be to replace that you think?
