My phone shows 2 instances of HTC Sense in the Applications\Manage application\All. HTC Sense version 3.0.211533xx and HTC Sense version 2.0.2115xx. I can force stop both. But when i power off the screen, Sense 2.0 version restarts while Sense 3.0 stays stopped.
I was force stopping Sense to see if my ADW Launcher Pro EX's app drawing would scroll more smoothly. It does, really fast.
But curiously, when I power off the screen and power on, the Sense 3.0 lockscreen and weather animation greet you. Application manager shows only Sense 2.0 running. Meanwhile the app draw in ADW still scrolls really fast.
I am cornfuzed, how is this happening?
The Sense 2.0 runs the lockscreen stuff while 3.0 runs the main UI, I guess HTC thought ahead and did that so the fancy lockscreen would still function even when an alternative launcher is used and 3.0 is not running due to being unneeded.

Yes, that makes sense. I just don't remember that lockscreen being a part of 2.0. Maybe because I have been running No Lock all the time on previous EVO.

Is there a way to change the right side dock button? I'd much rather it go to text messages than the "Personalize" screen....anyone know how to change it?
Blah! HTC Sense... I am disgusted with it as well.
Best bet would probably be getting a third-party launcher (Launcher Pro / ADW Launcher).

I'm a Launcher Pro junkie. Love it. Sense on the other hand is definitely a love/hate thing for me. Some of its features are really slick, but many of them just get in the way. I too would like to change that personalize button. Need to look into it more closely.
It won't matter...once a CM7 gingerbread build comes out for this thing, I'm there and goodbye Sense.
Agreed. Once CM7 is ported and I have my TB rooted... there is no turning back to this bloated, stock, Sense 2.2 garbage.
I've always loved LauncherPro. I have the Plus version. But this is my first HTC phone, so I'm using it stock for a bit first just to get a taste of what Sense is all about for a while.
I don't mind it too much. Runs smooth, but has so much bloatware attached to it.
If I could customize the dock buttons around and hide icons in the app tray, I think I'd be fine with Sense.
I have seen this done in some roms but I am pretty sure you have no shot without root. I think I had it in Mikfroyo but it was called modified Rosie or Rosie Options. Something like that.
Btw...mikfroyo is an EVO from under the Evo Dev section

New sense is nice actually. I like it so far...better than sense 2.0..
Many of us like to use home replacement apps to have more customization. But many of us whom are htc fanboys don't wanna let go of our sense widgets. They do make sense after all. So with the advent of these popup dock apps being on the market like dock4droid i thought hmmm maybe there can be a Rosie dock app that can be created as an overlay to the stock htc Rosie dock! Something that is themeable and looks just like the sense Rosie dock except that it has more app shortcuts embedded on it. Say like 3-5 app shortcuts that can revolve like the android rotary lockscreen that scrolls through different user defined shortcuts like launcher pro/ go launcher. That way we can keep our amazing goodness that sense 2.1 has to offer but having the convenience of using more shortcuts on the dock that home replacements offer. Has anyone else thought of this? And should this have been in the android general forum for more visibility? I'm not a developer btw. Just an enthusiast. Whaddayall think?

Sounds like a nice idea for those sense-lovers. As for me, I don't much care for sense or the widgets, but would be willing to give this a try.
I originally thought sense was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen back in 1.5. After the step up to 2.0 I perfered the look of AOSP with other adjustments. I absolutely hate the dialer, contacts, and several other aspects of sense though. I would do anything to get it removed from my phone completely. I will rejoice to the heavens once CM7 is ported over to this wonderful piece of hardware.
Its funny to me that the way you feel about sense now is the exact same way I feel about aosp. I like the way aosp performs over sense. Feels much lighter and easier on the cpu. But I like the look and the added functionality that htc brings to android on their devices. Perhaps if there would be a wonderfully themed metamorph and some htc themed dialer and contact apps available on the market I'd totally be on aosp. Since there are all these developers out here banking off of htc themed apps ie flip clocks, widgets and home replacements, I don't see why the htc corporation just not turn their famous ui into a highly advanced home replacement app! And/or convert their famous widgets into android widgets for sale on the market. I'd be willing to pay spb 3d shell money for all of that. They can definitely bank off of selling their ui to those that don't buy their devices and to Those who buy their devices, root and flash aosp on their devices. It can be a win/ win situation for them. And btw, they would kill any home replacement app on the market right now if they were to release a home replacement app based on sense3.0!

The most themeable launcher with a doc that I've seen is Go Launcher
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex
Go launcher isn't very sense like though if that matters. It's more like vanilla android or sort of like touchwiz on samsung phones.
With LauncherPro Plus and the theme support of widgets you can pretty much have a sense like ui.
Yea but I'm not talking about an idea for a home replacement appz I'm talking about just a dock replacement app, or dock overlay. Something that is put on top of the default dock to be used with the current rom and can be used alongside the proprietary widgets. Launcher pro is the best home replacement app to mimic sense but sense 2.1 and the upcoming 3.0 has surpassed launcher pro. The developer can updated it to have much of those features but who knows if he will and when he will. A simple dock overlay with a few enhancements can save app storage space and be easier on the cpu. I've noticed when I have more than 3 home replacement apps installed, sense starts to get a bit laggy. It would be nice to be able to still experience sense entirely but with a few added enhancements.

Problem with launchers those widgets are bundled with them on android is they're generally not sharable. App independent ones like pandora don't have that problem, but the launcher ones seem to be be tied into the launchers and wont play nicely. People have ported out or cloned ones from launchers, but I am guessing the actual ones are just too tied to the launcher code to be standalone.
True but the idea I'm talking about is not a home replacement launcher. I'm talking about a dock overlay. Something that can be used with the default launcher, widgets etc. Look up dock4droid on the market. The idea stemmed from that. Specifically what I'd like to see is a replacement Rosie dock that covers the default dock with extra app shortcuts that are scrollable like launcher pros dock.

Has anybody else noticed how undetailed the homescreen icons are on the Evo 3D? in the app drawer, they look as defined as they should be, but when seeing them on the homescreen (my example being Angry Birds Rio) they look really bad. Worse than on my 4G running CM7. and also, is there a way to natively take screenshots with Sense 3.0? Like how the G2x can by pressing home/power at the same time? I saw the feature on my friend's Inspire running a Sense 3.0 port
I just got a 16GB WiFi HTC Flyer. It's on stock GB 2.3.3 and using Sense 2.1 for tablet. I like to use live wallpapers, and I'm certain that the flyer can handle them, but when I swipe back and forth through homescreens, the wallpaper seems to pause in between screens. I don't know if this is because of Sense or if it's perfectly normal. Anyone else experience this problem and if so how did you fix it?
Mine too, evo 3d works fine.

I believe that this is a sense issue. If you have another launcher running and a live wallpaper the transition is smooth.
Out of curiosity, what LWP are you using?
Weather on both

I thought it may have something to do with Sense as well. I used launcher pro and tested the Sense photo blur LWP and the transition was smooth. I hope this issue is addressed in an update. It's not a huge deal but it does take away from the user experience.

I agree, its very hard not to notice it.
I believe it's because in newer versions of Sense (I think from 3.0 and above) there is a problem with the launcher can't detect the transitions or the screens' positions or something like that..
There are some wallpapers that say in the info part "not compatible with sense 3 devices"
Even in normal wallpapers you can notice that when you move from screen to another, the wallpaper remains still and doesn't show more of if you understand what i mean

Good day techies. This is quite a time i have reocurring problem on my HTC Desire S with HTC Sense forceclosing/restarting (screen with HTC logo, then "Loading" ...) usually when tabbing or pressing "Home Screen". I tried clearing cache and data of HTC Sense process and in conclusion nothing helped. Installing latest updates and HTC Sense 3 didn't help for my Android 2.3.3
Haven't tried factory reset because it will probably require a lot of tinkering which i don't have time to go into so i would like to know if installing any kind of launcher such as GoLauncher, ADW Launcher EX (read it is faster than others) which are available on Google Play would fix the problem.
Thanks for responses!
Sense Restarting
HTC Sense UI consumes a lot of resources like RAM so if you open some apps simultaneously and then press home screen, SENSE has to reload because the device is out of RAM. You mean 768MB of RAM my device has is not enough? And what is the use of installing additional launcher if HTC Sense is still consming RAM? What is way out of this?
Actually, when I ran Sense and used a third party launcher, HTC Sense didn't run in the background. I removed all widgets, apps, shortcuts, etc from the screen and set ADW Ex as my default home screen. My phone ran more smoothly and I never caught Sense open. It's worth a shot.
Also remember that Sense 3.0 uses more ram than earlier versions of Sense.

It didn't run at all, when I'd go into manage applications, it never showed in running apps and never had a force stop button available. When I used the Sense launcher, it showed in running apps and I could stop it from manage applications.
When you install a third party launcher, you'll be given the option to set it as the default home. Once it has installed, hit the home button. You'll be given a dialog asking which launcher you want to use. Select the set as default button & choose the new launcher. If you accidentally choose the wrong one or need to switch back, go to manage applications and find whichever you have set as default. You'll have the option to clear defaults, it's near the bottom. You can also install one of the Home Switcher apps and manage them from there.
Downgrading to a previous version of Sense would require flashing a different rom. If your device has never had anything other than Sense 3.0 then you won't have a Sense 1.0 or 2.1 rom. If the phone used to have an earlier version of Sense, then there will be roms available for it. If your stock rom is 3.0, then going to an earlier version may require going to an earlier version of Android as well. That depends on how the updates have come out.
All I'm saying is that it's worth a shot. I suggest ADW Ex, but if you don't want to pay for it without knowing if it's going to solve your problem, try the free ADW or any other launcher. If it works you can then look at other launchers. If it doesn't work and you prefer Sense, just uninstall the third party launcher or switch back to Sense.
I prefer ADW Ex over Sense as you have many more options. A lot of people like Go Launcher, but I didn't care for it. You might want to give it a shot. LauncherPro is kinda outdated and is missing features. The choice is really up to you, I just think that you might have better luck with a different launcher. Just know that you can't use the Sense widgets with anything other than Sense. If you miss the widgets, check out Android Pro Widgets (APW).

Install GO EX LAUNCHER. Press HOME button from anywhere within the OS and it will ask you which launcher you want to go to. Select the one you want. You can also use task manager widget for Go EX LAUNCHER to clear RAM and sometimes shut down HTC SENSE LAUNCHER. HTC SENSE LAUNCHER reloads when you select it as the launcher after pressing home button...
