I've got a used Aria from eBay. seller is great and everything seems OK. phone also should be in excellent condition. I just to know if there is a list of features that I can check to make sure everything is ok.
Also, will it possible to check some features even without the sim card? I don't have an AT&T sim card, and it will a some time to get the unlock code.
Well, I think for the most part the things to check are obvious. Without a SIM card, you won't be able to verify whether the phone can connect to the cell network, but you should be able to test everything else.
I've compiled a list of things. if anyone has any additions I will be glad to add them.
* Visual check for broken parts, scratches, etc.
* Check battery and battery connectors.
* Insert sim, insert SD card.
* Turn on, check phone that SIM card is identified correctly.
* Finish first time configuration wizard.
* Make a call. check volume.
* Check speaker by switching to speakerphone. check volume.
* Check screen accuracy?
* Check optical trackball:
Open the app drawer and use your trackball to scroll through the apps. If it's precise and you can easily select apps, it's fine. If it takes a bit of time to select an app because the speed is too slow, I guess that could be fine too, you just need to get used to it

. If for SOME REASON it's really, really fast, either you're making it go fast, or there's some hair or dust stuck inside it. I personally haven't found a way to get that out of my trackball, but I got used to it, and occasionally prefer the speed it brings.
* Check sensors: G-sensor
MENU > Settings > Display > Auto-rotate screen. Check application like internet gallery etc.
* Proximity sensor
Place a call with your Aria and hold it up to your ear (or cover the top part) and quickly bring it back in front of your face. If the screen flickers on and off, the proximity sensor is working.
* Ambient light sensor (how?)
adjust your phone's brightness to Auto (Settings > Display). check in bright room with light on and off.
* Check GPS, digital compass, with GPS test free version: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
* Check connectivity: Bluetooth, WiFi by connecting headset or receiving flies.
* Check camera: take photo, check focus.
* Check audio: play a song.
* Check video playback.

Use GPS Test on the Market to test GPS, the Aria's GPS can't play nice sometimes when in Maps. At least that's how I've experienced it, up until I used a GPS fix from the Legend forums.
Open the app drawer and use your trackball to scroll through the apps. If it's precise and you can easily select apps, it's fine. If it takes a bit of time to select an app because the speed is too slow, I guess that could be fine too, you just need to get used to it . Check G-sensor by going into MENU > Settings > Display > Auto-rotate screen. Then launch an HTC app like Gallery, Internet, or Mail to see if the screen rotates. People doesn't rotate, neither does Weather, and maybe Clock. Not sure on Clock's case.
Place a call with your Aria and hold it up to your ear (or cover the top part) and quickly bring it back in front of your face. If the screen flickers on and off, the proximity sensor is working.
Light sensor can be tricky because in my experience, the auto-brightness setting in Android is complete crap. Go into a really bright room, and adjust your phone's brightness to Auto (Settings > Display). Turn off your light and see if the brightness adjusts. In my experience, I can barely see the change, but it's enough to work. I never use auto, it uses precious CPU constantly, so I prefer to stay at preset values.
Thx for the tips, I will add them to my check list!

I've read spotty reviews on how the ambient screen display feature works (as-in it didn't reliably) so I initially disabled it. I installed Nougat DP5 last night and re-enabled it just to see if it's any better. I've found that if I double tap the screen it comes on. Now, I don't think this is like the LG version where it's detecting your finger touching the screen but more like the accelerometer detects the vibration and interprets this as the motion needed to trip the display. I've noticed that it's not very reliable, or doesn't work at all, except on the right-side more or less inline with where the time is displayed. Double-tap here and it works very time (maybe the accelerometer is under that spot). Who knows. What I do know is that I can now check the time without having to press the power button.
I've noticed this as well - I'm on dp5, and I have the double tap 6p app installed. It doesn't seem to work as well, but the ambient display seems to trigger more when I touch the device.
On stock all you need to do is tap it hard enough to slightly move the phone and ambient display will work.

Bought the pro version! Love it!
Some glitches with the AOD, even when I disabled the AOD or when I set it on for notification only, AOD alsways shown.
Everything works fine beside that issue.
Hoping for some fix in the future
Well, I bought that, so enjoy your beer! And keep up the good work!
I did purchase this app last year , using note 20 ultra I could not get it to continue to function properly. Will try again and post back here if working.
*seems to be working the same as last year , a blinking light even when screen is on
Everyone should already know not to show missed notifications after screen unlocked and especially once locked again.
Also, can you believe the developer thinks it's super important to able to turn on aod soon as you touch the screen at all,even if no notifications? then aod must take over so when moving your phone around better not touch screen or prepare for the battery drain!
(Only happening if you have icons enabled, if just circle led then doesn't activate aod upon touch , still needs double tab

WIll be interesting to see if this makes much of a difference. With the S21 touted as having dynamic refresh rate adjustment, it shouldn't be needed, in theory.

You got the wrong theory.
It's not the first to have the adaptive refresh rate, note 20 ultra is. Been using this on note 20 ultra .
Though refresh rate is adaptive, phone is using the highest refresh rate (i.e. 120hz) atleast 80% of the time.
Setting the max to 96hz definitely consumes less battery than 120hz.
And this is not only what you can do with this app.
One question: us the 60hz also adaptive? Goes down to 10hz when not in use?

Sorry your question is not clear to me.
But if you are asking for smartphones with standard refresh rate (i.e. 60hz), I think they are all on a single 60hz refresh rate (i.e. fixed). I have not known any which can go lower than 60hz, moreso on the capability to go as low as 10hz. In fact, the S21 Ultra is the only smartphone capable to do so as of the moment.

Sorry I don't know yet.
But if we based it on the existing implementation of Samsung in Note 20 Ultra's "standard mode", it is not lowering down to 48hz (the lowest refresh rate it is capable) when the screen is idle or if it has static content or even when the screen is turned-off or in AOD.
If fact this is true even in Adaptive Mode - Samsung actually (and strangely) sets it to the highest refresh rate (120hz) when in AOD or when screen is off. Watch closely this video. This is the reason why this app includes a "Screen off refresh rate mod" to override this behavior.
Not sure though if this will be the same for S21 Ultra.

I'm running into the following error while trying to set up the ADB on phone using my laptop:
adb: device unauthorized.
This adb server's $ADB_VENDOR_KEYS is not set
Try 'adb kill-server' if that seems wrong.
Otherwise check for a confirmation dialog on your device.
I didn't see any popup requesting permission on my phone. Any advice?

When its set to 60hz, it just stays there. Regardless of Adaptive or standard. When you re-apply adaptive mode, the app no longer allows 48hz as lowest refresh rate, only 60 as minimum when you set 96hz or 120hz as max refresh. I have not seen 48 outside of screen-off which is reporting at 48 when toggled instead of the 60hz s21u selects as its screen-off Hz.
You are not missing too much, as I hear the os release is still pre-release technically and full release OTAs are around corner. There are many display bugs still.
About this app:
Refresh Rate Control: Easily control the max refresh rate (Hz) of android devices with multiple refresh rates (e.g. note20 ultra, s20/S20+/S20Ultra, z fold 2, s21/s21+/s21Ultra, tab S7/S7+, z fold 3, z flip 3). This app can limit max refresh rate to 96hz (or any available refresh rate) on supported smartphones - you can save power with negligible difference on smoothness. Use either the in-app toggle or quick settings tile - ADB setup or Root NOT needed.
Force High: Option to use High(Fixed) motion smoothness mode on Samsung devices with native Adaptive motion smoothness***
Current Samsung smartphones natively supporting adaptive refresh rates:
Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
Galaxy Z Fold 2
Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra
Galaxy Z Flip 3
Galaxy Z Fold 3
Refresh Rate Monitor: Show real-time screen refresh rate as statusbar icon and/or as overlay. Overlay size and location is adjustable. Use either the in-app toggle or quick settings tile
Quick Resolution Switcher: Easily switch to any supported resolutions using the included quick setting tile***
Quick High/Adaptive on Power Saving Mode: Easily switch to high or adaptive motion smoothness mode (from Standard) even on power saving mode on supported Samsung smartphones.***
Note: Not working on TabS7 updated to OneUI4.*
Force to Lowest Hz: Force lowest refresh rate on screen-off/AOD. This overrides Samsung's strange stock behavior which sets the refresh rate to the highest on screen off (update: it is now at 60hz since oneui3.0) - to improve standby power consumption a bit - ADB setup or Root NOT needed.
Auto apply power saving mode during screen-off (after ~ 10 secs)***
Tasker plugin support: Automate GMH settings with Tasker app. Supported actions/variables: max refresh rate, min refresh rate, keep smooth motion on PSM, motion smoothness mode, quick-doze mod, change dispaly resolution, auto sensors off. More info in FAQs below
Premium Features:
Keep High/Adaptive motion smoothness when power saving mode is enabled whether manually or by the system/adaptive power saving***
Note: Not working on TabS7 updated to OneUI4.*
Adaptive refresh rate mod for devices supporting multiple refresh rates but do not have the stock Adaptive motion smoothness (e.g. S20 series, S20FE, TabS7/S7+) with the ability to set the brightness threshold for its activation***
Quick-doze mod: Quickly enter doze mode during screen-off that can not be interrupted by motion ***
Set minimum refresh rate for adaptive mode to 60hz or lower (if supported)***
Resolution switcher filter: Filter what screen resolutions to include for the resolution switcher QS tile.
Auto SENSORS OFF (experimental non-root workaround):
Device sensors will automatically turn off while screen is off until the device is unlocked. This helps minimize battery-draining motion-triggered wakelocks while device is not being used.
Statusbar net speed indicator

hello, I have a couple of questions/issues.
1. who's to decide which available refresh rates are there? I find it pretty dumb that this tablet has 60 and 120hz and no in-betweens. Can this be changed in the future? i guess I'll stick with 60hz for the time being. 120 is just too much battery drain and it gets hotter too on the bottom of the screen.
2. I seem to have an issue that when I leave the tablet to stable 60hz (set in Samsung's settings) when I unlock it after a while, I find it on 120hz. Now I've tried to disable the forced minimum refresh from gmh and see if it persists. BTW, is this needed on this tablet? is Samsung's implementation this bad?
3. is there a way to change the app's language? the automatic translation to Italian is TERRIBLE.
thanks!
Just for ****s and giggles, I thought I would make a macro in macrodroid to do something like this.
Here is what I came up with that suits my flow

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
this is the basic macro
There is a setting to apply adaptive refresh rate in this but whether or not it is actually working is hard to determine so I didn't bother putting it in the macro.
Here's how to do it though incase someone wants to take the time to test it.
This is on the tab s7 plus, not the tab s7.
This is why I think this could be significant

One questions though: Do I need to put the app into any battery optimization white list in order to keep it working?

One questions though: Do I need to put the app into any battery optimization white list in order to keep it working?

There might be a bug:
Whever I turn on the screen ans resume the tablet from sleep, the adaptive refresh does not work and stays at 120fps. However, if I switch out to another app and switch back, it start to working again.

SM T970, Android 11, OneUI 3.1. This bug shows in every app I am using, discord, solid explorer, even samsung home.
How to reproduce it:
1. Make sure the app is working, eg. It can automaticlly set screen refresh rate to 60HZ after 2 second.
2. Turn screen off.
3. Turn screen on.
4. Look at the fps indicator. Now it won't automaticlly set to 60HZ anymore.
5. As long as I switch out and back, it will work again.

Thank you. I can't still reproduce it, bro.
Think there's something peculiar in your device that's causing this bug. Would you mind sharing a screen vid recording?
You can use this screen recorder app. It is capable of recording high refresh rates.
REC - Screen | Video Recorder - Apps on Google Play
Unique Screen Recorder. Screen capture video recording (UHD, FHD), on/off audio
play.google.com
Thank you.

Sure. However, there is turn screen off and turn screen on to reproduce the bug. Will it keep recording even after I turn off the screen?

Hi, I was looking for "Raise to Wake" feature in my redmi note 10 with PE+ Rom, but I didn't find it anywhere, I don't know why?
Is it a bug in my device or it isn't there at all?
I've seen cheaper phones having it though.
Please help.
This function exists in PE+.
Settings > Display > Advanced settings > Lock screen > Ambient display > Wake up by lifting

I tried, not working.
because that feature need physical proximity sensor. and mojito didn't have it, we have proximity based on motion.

Our phone has a proximity sensor. You can check this in the sensor checker apps.

The test shows the change in the sensor value as it works. I bring my hand to the sensor and it changes the value to "0". I move my hand away and it changes the value to "2". The sensor is working.

I've tested it and it works. It just doesn't have a fast response time. Screen startup comes with a delay.

In that case, it's the same. For me, the basic use of the proximity sensor is also to turn the phone off when put to my ear. I used the hand test because I can't see the display at the ear. So the proximity sensor works.

nah, my proximity not working if only use hand to covering display.
The sensor does not work when the "display is covered".
It is located near the speaker to listen to the call. It's just a small area it responds to. Putting your ear or hand in the right place activates the sensor. Additionally, it seems to work better with the phone in a vertical position.

"A lady said."
It's not true!
The virtual proximity sensor does not work if the phone is not moving and only the position of the body relative to the phone changes. So, for example, the palm of your hand is moving closer and further away from the sensor. Our phone reacts to such body movement, so it must have a physical proximity sensor.
