[Q] Atrix 4G, physical Keyboard outside of US (e.g. QWERTZ)

Hi all,
using a physical Bluetooth Keyboard is a good choice, but only if you have the right Keyboard-Layout.
As I am not living in US (but instead in Europe/Germany) I am strongly looking for a way to change the used Keyboard Layout. Is there an easy way to change it to get the ability to use a typical German (Hardware) Keyboard on the Atrix 4G (AT&T Version)?
Can I modify: /system/usr/keylayout/evfwd.kl
What are the possible risks?
Which file I have to change for the Webtop mode?
BTW: I tried the App “Keyboard Language” which doesn’t work.
wanted Layout see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Germany_and_Austria_.28but_not_Switzerland.29
I use SwiftKey. There are options in the settings to change it
Sent from my MB860 Atrix using XDA App.
Hi,
thanks for your answer, but...
Swiftkey is a Software Keyboard, but I am talking about an Bluetooth Hardware keyboard...
The question is: How I can change the mapping of the keys on the Hardware...
Is there any kind of solution for this problem?
Thanks a lot!
Possible Solution for Keyboard Layout for external USB-Keyboard with Multimedia Dock
Hi!
I had the problem that the external GERMAN USB Keyboard couldn't be used as a GERMAN keyboard. And changing the setting to german wouldn't work.
I found this
android-hilfe.de/zubehoer-fuer-das-motorola-atrix/157808-webtop-problem-mit-tastaturlayout.html
and i somehow solved my problem by doing this:
copy "kbd_de_basic.kcm.bin" from /system/usr/keychars/ to /data/usr/keychars/ and rename it to (the already existing!! - so, better make a backup)
"usb_keyboard_102_en_us.kcm.bin" and leave the setting of external keyboard to "US International" (or similar..). Reboot.
For me, it worked. You'd better uncheck all the options at the "physical keyboard" settings menu.
cheers!

Help with Keyboard Dock station not working?

im using tf300t and the original docking station keyboard from Asus. the keyboard is brand new but only the mousepad is working I cant type with the keyboard! its really annoying
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Make sure the "Physical Keyboard" Switch is turned "On" when you have the dock connected. If you open a e-mail/note or any field that supports text entry, you can click the keyboard icon on the lower right side of your screen (next to the time/wifi icons etc.) Alternatively, you can find the options via Settings -> Language & Input -> Keyboard & Input methods
Also make sure that it's set to "Asus English (US) Keyboard" (or whatever default language it is you use), but double check whether it's the Asus keyboard and not a custom one. If you have any custom keyboard apps/mods/skins/themes installed, try uninstalling those to figure out if any one of them may be causing the incompatibility.
Lastly, if all of this doesn't work, perhaps something's wrong with your dock or the connector. If reseating (disconnecting/reconnecting the dock) doesn't help, and possibly resetting the device to factory defaults or re-installing the ROM you're currently on, you might wanna get it checked out and possibly contact Asus for an RMA.

[Q] Swiftkey phone: Hack to use on tablet?

Swiftkey has a nice layout feature for phones - in landscape mode, you have the option to split the keyboard with arrow keys in the middle.
I have purchased Swiftkey, and now want to use it on my tablet in that same mode but the developers have frustratingly put in a block that if a tablet is detected, that one option is disabled. Messages come up urging you to buy the tablet version, but even the tablet version does not have that layout option like I would like to have.
Soooooooo, it there a way to hack something to make Swiftkey think it is installed on a phone, to enable that layout option?

'Laptop mode' features with 3rd party keyboards?

hi everyone!
i just ordered the white LTE model and am SO excited. however i have ordered it without the keyboard (got a good deal and its only available in black atm anyway), so i was wondering whether the UI changes like the 'windows taskbar-like' app launcher on the bottom of the screen also appear with other bluetooth keyboards? i understand they appear with the keyboard dock even when they aren't physically connected so it isn't triggered by a physical recognition or NFC, but it could be specific to the keyboard docks bluetooth profile for example.
anybody know for sure or able to try it?
I use a third-party keyboard and the "laptop mode" does not turn on with it. I do wonder if there is a way to turn it on tho, would be nice
Same here, would like to have the 'laptop UI' with a bt lenovo keyboard with trackpoint.
Anyone ?
Thanks.
I´m working with a logitech bluetooth kbd and would be awesome to have the laptop UI....

Xiaomi Mibox 3 4k-HowTo switch external/bluetooth/physical keyboard layout/language?

Hello,
using a German bluetooth keyboard with my Xiaomi Mibox3 with Leanback Keyboard but as the Onscreen keyboard has German layout the physical keyboard seem to be stuck with English layout!? I know there is an App called "External keyboard helper pro" but this App obviously completely disables the onscreen keyboard which I still want to use with my original Xiaomi remote.
There are no settings for the physical keyboard with the MiBox so how can I change the bluetooth keyboard layout?
One option would be to use HID identification number to create a new .kl file with the key definitions of the keyboard in question.
In some cases you can be lucky and the right file is already present, meaning the default is not used.
But this requires root access or modifying a firmware that you can flash with the changes.
