Hey guys,
I've tried CM7, Revolutions and Asgard for GB Roms and for me and my 10 hour work days, I need something that'll last a little more and will respond better. My experience with the three roms were not the best, but promising. It didn't dissuade me from GB roms, but rather excited me. I just am gonna have to wait until they're 100% smooth haha.
Anyway, I've only ever really used 2.2 Roms and the only ones I've ever loaded was Axura, Nero/Bionix, and Trigger (and flagship, but I don't count that because it was for a day). I'm wanting something different and I think I've decided on these, but if you guys recommend something different please let me know.
Anyway, I would love to hear your opinions and I appreciate the time you guys are taking to respond.
Respectfully,
Vahdyx
I like Bi-Winning and most other 2.2.1 ROMs just because my phone seems to do really well with them. But to be honest, everyone is going to have something different to say. My best advice is just pick one and give it a try for a few days and see how you like it. If you don't like it (or even if you do!) try another, and see which you like better...
Well, for GB I'm currently using Revolution RC1.
It's pretty neat.
Just one thing, when he uploads something, wait for everyone else to try it.
It seems like the roms always work on his phone and everyone else's just bootloops.
The current version is very stable and fast though.
For 2.2, dunno if you've tried Boinix NextGen v2.
That one was one of the best ROMS I've ever tried.
Not a single error anywhere and the battery was awesome.
for the 2.21 roms try Biwinning or V if you want to try a good GB rom try the Asgard Rom it is excellent
Hey vahdyx,
I'm a big fan of vanilla ROMs. If you're going to stick with 2.2 for now, I can tell you that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054032 is great. There are little bugs though, such as the dialer crashing frequently when editing contact info.
If you want a vanilla ROM with GPS and Swype preinstalled, there is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832532, but I haven't tried this one.
If you do end up using a 2.2 or 2.2.1 ROM, I highly suggest using the Bali kernel found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043947. This kernel optimizes battery life so that your phone will have an easier time making it through your workday, but is definitely not for you if you're an overclocker.
From what I've heard, if you are currently at 2.3, if you want to go back to Froyo, I *believe* that you have to ODIN back to stock first. http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/. Youtube is useful if you don't know how to do this.
Hope this helps!
I suggest sgs hybrid it runs really great its a 2.3 JVP rom and it has great speed and battery

I have been at this for weeks now. I rooted my droid eris and love that I did, but for the life of me I cannot decide on which rom to use and stick with. I have tried nonsensikal, kaos, tazz, and celb. I just want one where I will have great battery life. I was wondering if I can get some advice on which ones you all think are the best. I know kaos is the most popular or so it seems. I keep going back and forth on this as I type I am flashing nonsensikal 9.0 and probably will switch again later unless I get advice.
Thank you for any help.
I use KaosFroyo, but I've tried out several and like most of them. You really won't find a bad ROM here; it's more of a personal preference...the way it looks and feels to you.
Keep an eye on KaosLegendary as it progresses. If you like sense, that one's going to be badass.
Since all of the ROMS you mentioned are built from CyanogenMod source, they will likely all have similar battery life... I'm not sure anyone can tell you one ROM is better than another, but I can give you my opinion- I have had the best experience with CELB's flavor of Froyo.
+1 for Celeb.
Not that the others are bad, all of them are great. Celeb seems to run a bit smoother.
That said keep an eye on Kaos-Legendary I think it will be great once some of the kinks are worked out.
I am like you.
I started out with Kaoys
I think went to Tazz
I am now on Nonsenikal.
I moved from Kaoys after I saw somethings that Tazz was doing but I started not to like the red keyboard with some of those releases and I didn't get into flashing a new keyboard which took me back to Kaoys........but then i found Nonsensikal at 8.2 and then 8.8 and now 9 and I am stuck with them for now.
I have the latest Tazz and Latest Kaoys on my phone just in case. I also have the Flashback 15 V1 just in case I need to take back to verizon for some odd reason and that works too
As has been stated, it's hard to tell you which is the best for you. You've tried them, you are the one who needs to decide. I like Kaos ROM it's been stable, many updates, many users, which helps when you have a question. It also is the first one i tried back on version 17.
They are all good, for sure. You just have to try them all bro, you can always switch... right? lmao
But, I suggest Tazz or Celb only because I really like those guys personally
Make it easy on yourself. Use the rock solid 2.1 XTR (with or without sense) from Zach as your default rom. When you are bored and wanna play, rotate among the Froyo roms. If there was a benchmark for Eris roms, I think XTR wins the prize. The Froyo roms are progressing nicely, but none of them have achieved benchmark status. (yet)
So adopt the best and play with the rest

If you mean quadrant score, XTR actually gets lower because its a 2.1 rom. But those mean nothing on the Eris, so yes XTR is the best way to go. I recommend doing XTRSense because it comes with XTRom and you can always download LauncherPro or something, flash openGL. and there ya go, both roms in one
If you are looking for froyo sensless rom i would definitely go with shadowrom. if you want sense based 2.1 than XTRsense. As far as quadrant scores i had highest with shadowrom.
I'm still running evil eris 3.0 and probably will upgrade to evil eris 4.0. personally i like evil eris the most out of any of the roms. i have apps2sd and over clocked at 768mhz with out any issues. hasn't given me one problem yet and by far one rom that has zero problems. Every other rom i've tried has some sort of issue. with froyo rom's it's ether the speaker jack not working or some odd issue which sucks. i hate if something doesn't work right so that's why i'm still running evil eris 3.0.
Thank you for all the suggestions so far. I went back to tazz 12 the pink theme because I liked how it was more girly since I am a girl. However I should of mentioned I wanted to be able to make whichever rom I chose more personal and the only changes I could see that you can make on any of them so far is the color of the clock and battery percentage. If there is more I can customize please let me know.
Another question I had was there was one theme I fell in love with but I dont know how to put it put it on my eris since it was made for regular droid. Is there any advice about doing that?
Thank you for any help. Im still really new to this.
Evil Eris is a dead project as far as I know. There's a cyborg rom that's very stable since it's based of the latest ruu.
As for froyo I'm a fan of Kaos or Tazz ROMs. I also huge fan of the built in tether and apps2sd in froyo.

I have tried NonSensikal, Tazz, and CELB. And to be honest, they are all very similar. I swore by NonSensikal when I started then tried out Tazz because of an issue I was having with my phone. Then I can't even remember why but I decided to try CELB 2.9 and it was great too. I've switch off of it for a couple days back to NonSensikal 8.8 but was having email issues and went back. To be honest I love the fact that I can switch ROMs as much as I want. I like to tinker and try new things. I've even flashed Kaos Legendary and it definitely going to be one I keep an eye on. All I'm saying is experiment if you want and enjoy. If not just flash one and stick with it. I've had no problems on CELB 3.0.
+1 xtrsense or xtrrom!
I know there's a theming app but I never used it si can't remember the name. I pretty much stick to the way a rom comes except for boot animation and keyboard.

TaintedTenzo works the best for me
I have been on NonSensikal for a few updates now and it is pretty stable. I honestly can't tell you that it is any better than the others. Kaos, Conap, Tazz, and Listy are all awesome developers and most (or all) seem to openly share ideas and bug fixes. It's all about your personal preference.
As far as battery life goes, ever thought of just getting more batteries? I bought two extras with an external battery charger off of ebay for pretty cheap. I keep my setcpu profiles set higher than most to get the best performance and change the battery whenever it gets low. Now, if I was a girl, this would be even more convenient seeing as most of you carry purses with everything but the kitchen sink in them anyway.
As far as themes go, check the apps and theme section of XDA. Even if a theme was made for a particular Froyo rom, it SHOULD work on all of them. Make a nandroid and morph or flash away.

I've tried a bunch of different roms and so far, for me at least it's always missing the mark. I don't change roms whenever a new one is available, sometimes I'll wait a bit and I like to try a sampling of as many as possible but it always ends up being either:
#1 the mms never working. either i get "service is not available at this time" (mms only) or after doing the fixes listed it'll stay "sending" then the next day a friend will tell me he's pissed cause the test pic i sent him at 8pm arrived at 4am
#2 flash never working ever
#3 if it's 2.1 then the apps2sd working, maybe,sometimes
tonight i'm trying my 3rd rom. the previous one i had before i figured I'd try some new ones had the mms issue, also when you shut it off it would reboot instead & you'd have to to it again, and maybe again
i'm thinking maybe we are asking too much from this phone ? i'm not looking for perfection but stuff like tethering i could care less about, being able to send my daughter a photo i do care about, and flash would be nice
is there anyone that can recommend a rom, can be 2.1 or 2.2 i don't care, but one that works on the eris that has no mms issue, has flash and is stable ?
thanks
tazz froyo and kaos froyo work awesome. have for a few months now. actually all the 2.2 non-sense ROMs work really good. The sense ones just got started so they will be good soon. The 2.2 sense ones actually have flash 10.1 not flash lite like stock Sense 2.1
froshedyo works good too
Sounds like xtrSENSE may be a good ROM for you... It is very close to stock but has a number of performance improvements that you can CHOSE to turn on only if you want to...

I've tried both and it's a tossup. xtrSense is nice and stable though and I'd recommend that over xtrRCmix just for stability reasons. That said the RC isn't bad but it feels a tad slower.
+1 on xtrSense ... probably the very best ROM for the ERIS!!!
xtrSense is fast and stable...better than any Froyo ROM I have tried so far
+1 on xtrSense, although the xtrRCMix seems to get me better battery life
Which roms and versions have you tried already? CELB and FroShedYo work great, minus flash. The other CM/ASOP 2.2'S get rave reviews too.
I haven't used a 2.1 in about 4 months so I can't say, but there's alot to choose from.
Honestly, my eris is my "main" computer other than my work machine. I have pretty much foresaken my home desktop, laptop and netbook. I'll give up Android phone when they come out with neural implants with retnal projection; thx surround sound pinging my tympanic membrane from the inside........ or whatever's free with a 2yr contract. Like you I too have tried almost every ROM for the Eris.. and if I had to choose today the BEST ROM to date it would be the ROM I am currently using: "xtrSense"!
I am keeping an eye on xtrRCmix and TenzoSense and am looking forward to both becoming more stable in the weeks to come.
thanks for all the info
I settled on xtrSENSE. I had actually had a previous version months ago. At that time (at least for me) any rom with 2.2 was problematic. After some time passed I tried a few 2.2's and they seemed better but then things would always go sideways.
One time i didn't notice for a week that no one was getting any pic messages I sent. Another time the apps on the sd was quirky as it seemed to be loading more on the phone storage then it should and then the performance would grind to a halt.
And like I mentioned I never had one where flash worked for me.
I appreciate all the work people do to make these but i just want a few basic things that are selling points to work.
So of the SENSE ones I tried this time around the first was xtrTenzoRCMix1.6 and that seemed pretty good till the next morning the screen still said "phone is shutting down" so i went to xtrSENSE4.6 which i'm happy with.
in the past I'd done vanilla tazz 15, froShedYo, kaosfroys,sense-able etc as well as a boatload of others that i didn't same the original .zips to

both of these are awesome. I generally don't like the issues that come with 2.2 roms, but I love floyo.
Maybe I'm the only one on the forums but considering I've searched and not found any threads so far, thought I'd post a thread to get some opinions from others who may have possibly not posted so far.
I've moved from stock to rooting my device, flashing the kernel (both with siyah and entropy) in addition to flashing custom roms ([ROM] (2.3.6) UCKJ4 "LeakedStockV4"/BraviaEngine/ICS-Transitions/BLN(12/07)) and ([ROM] UnNamed v1.3.2 - (12/9/2011)) and my experience has been so far that the stock rom has produce a more fluid natural experience than these roms.
of course I HAVE wipded data and cache from the phone (not internal_sd and external_sd) but stock rom has been the best experience for me.
If I am right, please chime in, if I am wrong, please guide what I need to do first, in order to fix it. I'm a few clicks away from going off root - of course I haven't recorded my experience but I guess it's my word against anything else at this point.
Unnamed is much smoother to me than the other roms. I'm a flash maniac and I've stuck with it. I'm very pleased.
You need to give it a day or so to build the cache up. It'll be slow for a day or two. Give it some time.

I'm new to this, but that's the first time I've heard that. Thanks for the heads-up. I'm currently running the UnNamed ROM and I don't think I've experienced anything odd, other than SetCPU causing some weird things to happen, even when running the "optimized" settings (making the lock button take screen shots as opposed to locking the phone). I've since uninstalled it. But I'd never heard that about letting the cache build up. You really do learn something new everyday.
UnNamed is like butter. I keep trying other ROMs...and keep coming back to UnNamed.
Simple answer
UnNamed is the way to go. If your phone dosent like it, its because it's defective.
+1 for UnNamed
Flashed between a few ROMs, back to UnNamed. It's just THAT amazing.
You can always flash a theme on top if you want a different look.
I've been a MIUI fan for a while now, tried almost everything else, always come back to MIUI. To each their own.
i also have to say unnamed is one of the greatest rom. its so smooth and fast.
im currently running task650's icsd out v5 and its pretty fast too.
Shoman's stock V5 is the greatest rom
I was on serendipity 8.2 for a while and have been on unnamed for a while now. They are the same to me. Speed smoothness and battery life seem the same. Both great

The Galnet MIUI is what I switch to if I do get the itch to use another ROM. Like it too.
Pretty much almost anything but straight stock is going to be better.
All the bloatware services running in the stock ROM are going to potentially lag it out.
Im not sure what's wrong with your phones but the only ROM I experienced lag on is CM7. Stock, UnNamed, MIUI.. the list goes on. they were all smooth. CM was the only one that was not.
Personal preference: UnNamed
what do you guys think is better than TW that i should try, miui?
Miui was pretty cool. Visually appealing but for me some apps didnt work and battery life sucked. I am using phiremod 2.0. It's a cm7 that in my opinion apart from bionix is the best rom I've tried I get great battery life and its really fast and reliable. I've been on it for about 3 months

If you want a good quality 2.2, check out Toxic8 or Deranged9. Both excellent ROMs with great support and outstanding battery life.
If you want the latest then ICS Passion is where it is at but make sure you are comfortable flashing ROMs, Odin and bootloaders. Oh and read, read, read.
I've been using ics passion 10.6 its great! no rom gives good battery life for me but this isn't any worse than stock 2.2 battery life
I am new to this stuff, but I flashed Zendroid a few days ago and love it. Super solid, no glitches at all yet. I have 25% battery right now after a full day's use and that never happened on stock. I love it, super clean, super smooth. I can't speak to "better" than bionix as I haven't tried that ROM yet. Just know that Zendroid is awesome.
I was on bionix 1.3.1 and was hesitant to try ics passion but the rom is smoother than I ever imagined.
Ok so I was looking at ics, and there's a ton where can get the best rom and kernels or is there a good site I can read about it?

Just look for the "ICS Passion v11" thread in the Development sub-forum. I recommend the stock kernel, only because it lags for me if I use Eugene's. Results may vary though, so you should try both and see which works best for you.

I think it really depends on the features that you're looking for. Personally, I don't really see the necessity to jump ship to a GB or ICS rom for the Vibrant just yet (if ever). Someone posted a pretty legit list on Fishman's mod noting the differences between Android versions that you should check out to see if updating is worth it for you.
+1 for bionix from me..
ICS Passion v11 is pretty sleek, but since there's no 1080p video recording I may have to revert back to Bionix.
The Vibrant is a better video recorder than my Flip- I'm not sure why they would cripple the video.
360 productions make some great miui roms. I prefer lithium. you could give those a try
I've been using bionix nextgen v2 for a long long time, and it's fantastic but I'd really like to make the jump to a GB rom.
Mainly because I can't stand the fact that my CM7 Nook Color can run apps that my Galaxy S class phone can't.
Only GB ROM I've tried so far was the first stable CM7 version, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get my GPS to work _at all_. Since I actually make use of my GPS on a fairly regular basis I went back to bionix nextgen.
Can anyone recommend GB or ICS roms that have good GPS performance (meaning they don't have that "turn off GPS once and you have to reboot to get it back" issue)? Been browsing through the roms listed in the dev forum, but I'd also like some extremely fresh personal feedback from other users here.
Thanks in advance all.

Would also like to know whether such ROM (GB with working GPS) exists...
Since my original post above I've switched to ICS Euphoria. It does have the GPS off = reboot to use it problem, but honestly leaving the GPS switched on all the time does not seem to have a serious impact on my battery life vs what I was getting before. In the end I'm fine making that tradeoff in order to be on modern firmware. ICS is _awesome_ and I don't see myself going back.
I meant to post this to the Q&A's section, I mistakenly posted to general. My apologies. Can this be moved to Q&A's?
So currently I'm running Bionix-V Fishmans froyo for the Vibrant, and I like it pretty well. Battery life seems to be alright.
Before that I was running Asgard 3.2, and it was pretty good except the battery would drain pretty quick, and the Phone would FC constantly.. forum is dead though and no support.
Was reading up on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021383
((Rom)Simply Honey 5.1 Revolution(JVR GB 2.3.4) JW1 HoneyCream in 3rd post. 12/30) and that sounds like it would be a pretty nice rom to try out, but all the links are dead. Does anyone have a current link or be willing to upload the latest version of that rom and the addons?
Or could someone possibly point me to a good Gingerbread rom for vibrant that is stable, I've been looking around for a couple of days and it seems maybe there is no more interest in Gingerbread for Vibrant.. maybe it's dead.
I've contemplated trying out some ICS builds, but it seems like there could be a lot of headaches, and the encryption unsuccessful bug, and other bugs that could make it more of a bad idea to try.
So, if anyone wants to help me, that would be fantastic!
I skipped over Gingerbread and went straight to ICS (before falling back to Froyo), so I can't really attest to any of these personally but people rave about MIUI: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123922
You could also try Phiremod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592509
or maybe Malice, but it's wasn't updated to 2.3.7: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21759-rommalice-5gb-234deficient-development/
I think with ICS out and getting more and more stable you might have some trouble finding people keeping GB ROMs going. ICS builds are really is close to a point of being a daily driver (I'm a big fan of Slim and ICZen) if you're ok with the GPS being flakey. I wasn't so I'm back on Froyo for a little while, but those GB ROMs I listed claim to have a functioning GPS so give them a whirl.
I still hear horror stories about the "Encryption Unsuccessful " super hard bricking. When a JTAG cant bring it back to life you know its as bad as it could get.
ICS is smooth but until that issue is resolved completely I'm staying on Froyo or GB.

Interesting. I kinda missed a lot of the quirks in getting Gingerbread just right, so that's a good tidbit about the Bullet kernel. Thanks for the heads up.
GPS working isn't really a big issue for me, but finding fairly stable roms (GB) with working links is a chore. I could have lived with Asgard, but the FC issues were a big negative. Also, when I would go to an area of poor-to-no coverage, I would have to restart the phone a couple of times because I would get a please insert SIM message.
