I would probably say you might have to do a fresh flash of 2.2.1, but the good thing is your phone will still be unlocked.
Pull the battery.
Before you put the battery back in, hold down the volume down button. Then, while still holding down the volume down button hit the power button. That will get you the fastboot prompt. You then just have to keep hitting down to get to RSD so you can reflash the 1.8.3 SBF.

That is incorrect. In order to get into RSD you have to press [volume up] and [power]. Let go of [power] when the screen turns on but keep [volume up] pressed. The screen will say something like [starting rsd protocol support] after a few seconds

Think you are thinking of recovery.
RSD Boot is vol up + power button.
Recovery is vol down and scroll.

You can get to it from down too. You just have to scroll through options until you hit RSD, then hit volume up. I totally forgot about the volume up + power to go directly to RSD support. Been doing to much CWM lately!

How long should the first boot to recovery take? It's been over 40mins... is this too long. Have I bricked my phone? Any and all answers greatly appreciated.

When you are on that screen, press the vol down button to navigate to recovery. then press vol up to select it.
So try it all over. Turn off your phone. hold vol down button, then press and old power button. it should take you to that simliar screen. then now press the vol down to find Recovery. then vol up to select.

The screen is locked to the Motorola Symbol with "Starting RSD protocol support" screen. How do I reboot the phone to do your instructions, with out damaging it? I have tried holding down the power button form more than 30sec and the phone does nothing. I have got the phone plugged into the wall. Should I take out the battery to get the phone to reboot? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

This should work. I had constant reboot cycle. To get into RSD I had to time holding the volume up button for when the reboot cycle started, before the green LED came on so that I could get to RSD. If you press the volume button at the wrong time it will reboot again.
could it be that you flashed a SBF to a ME860 and not a MB860?

Hey bor , you mean if I hold the volume up before the "Green LED " show up
I could get to the RSD mode ?? "Starting RSD protorcal....."
but I have been tried many many time ... no matter when I hold the volume up button ... It still reboot again and again ... ><
I think the problem is that Atrix "can not " get into RSD mode before it reboot ...
so that Atrix "can not" flash another SBF from computer ...
Does anyone have any idea for this problem ??

Pull the battery, put it in, hold volume down, power on and continue holding volume down until you see Fastboot on the screen. Then you can go into RSD and then you should be able to use RSDLite to flash.

Try holding volume down instead of up. If that doesn't work try it with the power button. Then you can get back to RSD protocol and flash the correct sbf to get you back working.

its not letting me to recovery. I keep holding the volume down and power button but nothing happen. When I turn on the phone Motorola logo and qual core technology come and after 1 min its say Failed to boot 4 starting RSD mode.
when you hold vol down and power the moto symbol should pop up first but if you keep holding it should say fast boot, then you use volume down to cycle to recovery. press volume up to enter recovery and when you see the triangle with the ! symbol press volume up and volume down at the same time to get to the screen with the options to wipe.

The phone is not coming to recovery. I kept pressing the volume down and power button for more than 30 sec the phone turn off. I think my bootloader is damaged. is there any other solution?
i keep seeing tut vids with everyone holding buttons down till you see the flashes etc. however if power down completely then just hold the vol down for 1 - 2 sec, then give the power button a quick push (no need to hold it down at all. just press it like you are turning it on) while continuing to hold vol down you'll go straight into boot loader (release vol down when you enter bootloader).

Erm, no disrespect intended, but isn't this how we've always gone into the bootloader? I didn't realize there was another way, outside of an APM in a ROM or through ADB.
Nite sure if this is what you're looking for but I use "quick boot" from the market.
One click for reboot, recovery, bootloader or power off.

I forget the button combination. But you can always do
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
Im trying to root my Atrix running 2.3.6 with the latest firmware. Whenever i attempt to fastboot the only thing that shows up is "starting rsd protocol support". No matter how long i hold the buttons this is the only thing that shows. Can someone help me? Is that the same as fastbooting or am I doing something wrong?

The instructions are a bit unclear. You have to hold down Vol-, then hit power, and then CONTINUE HOLDING Vol- until you see a menu. Then use Vol- to find Fastboot and Vol+ to confirm.
