[Q] Battery smells like it's burning - HTC EVO 3D

I bought my 3d on launch day and yesterday it started smelling like burnt electronics. It still worked perfectly though. I brought it back to the sprint store last night and they said it smells like the battery is burning and they replaced my entire phone. Now the new one smells the same way. It's not hot or anything
Anyone else experiencing this?

[Q] To those of you who returned your 3VO for a replacement...

Were you happier with the replacement unit than you were with your original? Were there any additional faults with the replacement unit? Was it worse/better?
I just sent out for a replacement for mine because of under screen dust, dead pixel, the screen tilt, and just to pretty much get a brand spanking new one the day before my 30 days is up. Am just a bit scared I'll get something worse off than what I'm giving up.
There isn't really anything internally wrong with it, besides the dust and the pixel, (the pixel is barely noticeable, but once seen, can't be unseen).
Any input from any of you would be greatly appreciated, and perhaps alleviate and fears I have about it.
My wife had the screen tilt and signal defect.
Her new one we just got yesterday is perfect. No tilt at all.
No dropping every call anymore. No issues with data and WiFi at all.
New one is like my phone. Good to go.
She is now FULLY satisfied.

I too had to get a replacement. I took mine to the Sprint store for random reboots, keyboard errors, dead pixels (5 to be exact). After testing the phone and them saying it is perfect, I began having problems a week later. Took the phone to Sprint, got a replacement and have had no problems. Speed is faster, the phone does not reboot, the pixels are all there, the screen is perfect. There seems to be no problems that I can report. I think that originally the phone had flaws due to trying to push them out so fast. But after realizing the issues, they corrected and seem to have it down.

I switched mine out within the 30 days of return, and I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. Except for green hornet will not play in 3d Can someone PM me on how to fix this? Btw, i returned it because of two dead pixels

I don't know if this will solve your problem, but i read somewhere if you add the watch widget to your homescreen and watch it that way it should work fine.
My first had a lot of problems reboots,fc with basic apps, sometimes would not turn on without a battery pull. My second one works great so smooth but I wish the speaker was louder.
Exchanged for screen tilt: new one is perfect in every way.
BTW, between myself and friends, I have access to 6 3vo's and I've tested them all with the dead pixel test on the market. Not a single dead pixel on any of the six, two of which were launch day units.
Mike
My first one was leaking light at the bottom buttons... and the main defect was the Mobile Network and Wifi would shut off randomly... When turning them back on... they would just sit there saying "Turning on..."
Got the new one... Light doesn't leak and somehow Mobile Network shut off. I'm beginning to wonder if it's me messing with the phone... I am happier with the replacement... and most will still be in the first 30 days... so you can get a brand new one.
Gonna get mine swapped tommoro due to if you shake it slightly it rattles and typing rattle is louder slow net speeds sucks. LOL love the phone.
Damn how I'm not having any of those issues with my phone?; may be I'm blessed lol

First was perfect except no 3g reception. Second was a total defect in every way... except got great 3g coverage. Third seems to be a keeper. So far its perfect.

I do have heavy light leakage on the bottom of my phone. It looks like the screen didn't set correctly.
It's never bothered me. Can't help but love this phone.

My first one had random reboots and wouldn't sleep... along with a crooked screen, so I exchanged it. The second one still had the crooked screen, but it didn't have random reboots and would sleep properly. However, the speaker was busted. It was extremely low on volume and it would pop every time any audio was played. The third one (that I still currently have) sleeps properly, doesn't randomly reboot, and has a good speaker. It still has the crooked screen though, but it is much less crooked than the first two. I'm tempted to try one more exchange just to get one that has a perfectly straight screen, but I'm scared of getting one that's the same or worse.
Your lucky you got ur unit swapped I'm stuck with mine the lady was a ***** at the store management wouldn't swap mine due to rattle or net hang reportibg the ***** lady that gave me looks when I took my phone in to there main store.

I think the rattle is the 3D 2D camera switch because mine does that as well but after a quick shake and listen I held the switch and viola no more rattle.

If You Have An Overheating / Bootlooping Phone ...

If You Have An Overheating / Bootlooping Phone can you please post what you were doing and the hardware revision number and manufacturing date?
This is actually a two-fold question, one of which is ... what is the best way to test a new Rezound to see if it will superheat or bootloop. The other part, and the one my other thread got too off topic to be useful for, is to collect manufacture dates in hopes of figuring this out.
To get your phone manufacture date:
1. Dial ##7764726
2. Hit call
3. Insert 000000 for password
4. Hit Display Grouping
5. Manufacture Date Code is what you need there
lol oh man, just buy one already
Jay
Oh Jay ... you can swap yours out anytime you lucky dog Verizon telesales told me I should buy in-store because that will save 1-2 days for each swap. So be it ... but I need to figure out fast if it will bootloop or overheat or not. Hence the thread.
i can't swap mine out ever lol i'm over my 14 day return period, and i bought it from corporate because i didn't wanna wait at my store
and dude, i really tihnk it's just bad quality control...mine has light leakage, and i have 1 speck of dust under my screen that i never notice....but i've never overheat, i get like 16 hours battery life, i use it ALL the time, i never bootloop, i never crash, i've gotten only 1 force close on some aftermarket app....and i've had it since day 1 (nov 14)..idk man.

Mine runs great, not a single issue. I came from the thunderbolt and this device runs circles around it. I got it on launch day and use it for everything

agreed, haven't reset my phone in a week and no problems. Best android phone I've had.

Only overheats when playing graphic intense 3D games.
No bootlooping, dust under screen or anything else (unless you count a bad charging cable as an issue, which is being replaced)

You are about to beat this subject to death man. It makes no difference what is said in this thread. You don't how the phone is going to work until you get it.
If it's a dud take it back and get another one.

I played wind up knight for an hour and didn't have any over heating issues. Yeah it was a little warm but it wasn't abnormal. Just take a deep breath and relax. Try to enjoy a new purchase and take the science out of it
My respond reach a temperature of 128 degrees, but I attributed this to a conflict between htc's task killa and juice defender,While plug in. Also had a boot loop that couldn't be fix by a battery pull. Had to boot in to the factory boot loader, and do a hard reset. Thats it. This phone isv awesome nexus galaxy blaah.

I notice when I play on-line poker my phone heats up to 100-110 degrees or so. Never resets but does get a little warn. I have a crappy LG ally that I used for wifi only and play on-line poker on it and it doesn't heat up. Either it's the active 4g connection or something to do with the Rezound. I don't think my thunderbolt would heat up either on 4g.
Mine was getting real hot. It would feel like it was burning my leg when I had it in my pocket. The battery would drain in around 4 hours or less and the extended battery in around 6 hours. I was with in my 14 days so I exchanged it for another one. I will see how this one does. The first one was fine the first couple of days and I picked it up off the tablet on the 3rd day it was really hot. I just got the new one late yesterday afternoon and charged it. So I will see how the battery does today.

My SGS2 internally imploded this morning (or something like that)

I plugged my eleven-day-old Galaxy S II up last night to the Samsung charger connected to the Samsung AC adapter that came with it. I then put it underneath the pillow beside me (not the pillow I sleep on; I do this so that I don't knock it off during the night) and went to bed. When I went to grab it this morning, the phone pretty much burnt my hand. I dropped it quickly and let it cool down for a moment. I had no success with turning it on and, when I got back from school, still had no luck. I ended up taking it back and exchanging it for another one.
It really doesn't bother me that much considering the volume up button on the other one stuck a little. And now I can't get CWM to flash on this one. It seems like nothing is going right for me today.
Woah!!
Definitely gotta be careful with that. These phones do need to breathe in a sense but glad it wasn't worse and you were able to return it. I bet you won't do that one again.
Yeah, definitely do not charge any electronic device while under a pillow because charging generates heat and there is no way for the heat to escape while it's under a pillow, so it builds up. As for flashing CWM, what happens when you use odin?
Sent from my SGS II.
The exact same thing happened to me w a NS4G, never again.
That happen to me but not to that extent, i did it all the time with other phones but I guess I should avoid doing that from now on.
It happened to me a couple of times with different phones. I think when I checked the temp it was like 127F lol
By far this phone is the hottest device i have. The thin profile of the phone can't really dissipate the heat that well. But anyway sorry to hear this about your phone. Good luck with fixing things.

ever owned a sensation? it doubles as a griddle. lmao
I actually was able to flash CWM. For some reason it just wouldn't allow me to do it from ROM Manager. But all is good now.
**** man im glad your bed didn't catch fire. That would have ruined your morning.

What does it say in BIG RED LETTERS AT THE VERY TOP OF THE FAQ?
Don't use Rom Manager on our phones.

Sounds like a faulty battery pack or charging hardware in the phone - for safety reasons, charging of Li-Ion batteries is suspended if the pack reaches 50C (122F) or less. It sounds like either your pack has a faulty temp sensor or your phone did not terminate charge when the temp rose too high. (I assume that Samsung has such termination circuitry onboard as they would never receive certifications otherwise). You are very lucky, as Li-Ion batteries have a propensity for exploding/catching on fire when overheated during charge.

I think Im going to run an auto-script that looks for people saying they use Rom Manager (or try to use it because it sucks and never works right) and then give them an automatic infraction.

Just weed out any cm7 threads though as it works perfectly. I understand your point though.
Also when we first got these phones and this issue came up i was able to get it to work with the samsung based roms and made a video to show how. Feel free to delete it if you want to. Dont want people to get confused...

I left mine under the pillow one night - woke up the next morning and was wondering why "This thing is HOT!". It wasn't ruined but I never leave it under the pillow charging anymore. This is why they made night stands LOL.

question to dose who changed digitaizer to their phone

Hi! I got myself the EVO 3D, love the phone but as many had the issue,
my digitaizer was a bust. so the compeny that sold me the phone said they will replace it for me for free as part of the warrenty.
the thing is, my warrenty is just for 3 months (dont ask..)
so I need to know if after you changed the digitaizer to your EVO 3D
did the new digitaizer died on you again on some point?
I've been giving the option to get my money back.
but I love the phone so Im looking for advice.
thank you
I've changed it on my wife's evo but not on my 3D. She dropped it and it cracked. Seems to be factory quality thus far.

ty for replaying,
but it got damage by a fall.
but my question is if I change the digitaizer, can I expect the digitaizer to work fine ,if no damage like a fall or water happend to the phone, to work without suddenly dieing or acting up with no reason, like happend to me and I guess others as they got the phone, after a period of time.
I replaced my entire housing because of a screwed up digitizer about 5 months ago. Haven't had a problem with my digitizer siince.

You might have to replace the LCD which is a separate part. You can't know until you replace the digitizer first. When I did it on my wife's EVO, the screen was completely white when it booted. I could here the boot sounds and ring tone when I called it but still completely white. I asked the people I bought the digitizer from and they said to replace the LCD too. The combined price for both parts were $50 USD. They include the tools for you too.
Once I replaced both parts, the phone worked fine. Again its my wife's not mine so it hasn't gone under my scrutiny but she hasn't had any complaints. Be sure to watch at least 2 different videos on youtube on how to replace the parts.
Email this company, [email protected], and ask if they have EVO 3D parts. I found them on amazon. They will provide a link to their Amazon store if they have what you need.
Mines been good so far took it to a replace center and got it replaced and its been good

New Maps/Nav app causing battery to stop charging in car dock?

Ever since Google updated to the new all in one app, I've had this problem on both our GSII and GSIII. If I have either phone docked and charging and running Nav, it will get hot and give the warning that battery temp is too high and charging is stopped. Which sucks as I travel a lot and use it for Nav in rental cars. I never had this happen before and had no problems running Nav and streaming Pandora and other stuff, till this updated app. I even bought another car dock and switched back and forth between our cars and trucks and no difference. I had to carry my old iPhone 3GS now with Navigon when traveling ughhh (guess apple just works lol?!?).
My friend has an S4 and said it's been happening to him a couple times after the app update but not all the time, mine is every single time. I just used it again like 20min ago and got the error msg again. Any idea whats up with this? I don't really see anything on XDA about this with the new app.
I've been having the same issue; I just thought it was because it was on a black dash in the Texas summer heat. When it is just plugged in without the dock and sitting in my cup holder, it's fine.
I tried the same thing by keeping the phone out of the sun extending the usb cable thinking maybe its the sun/heat but same problem happens. Plus I've never had this happen before even in South FL heat in the dock. Can't beleive I'm having to use the iPhone for Nav lol, b/c if I'm traveling and out and about etc and using the phone, I may not have enough charge as Nav drains when not plugged in. Google screwed something up ughh.
Nobody else? This sucks... damn you Google lol
Still doing it, been having to use one of our iphones and bringing it along on trips or whatever. This is ridiculous, don't know what Google screwed up in the app. Even if not in the dock and just charging by cord, it will still say battery too hot charging is stopped or something like that if plugged in and using Nav at the same time. Friends S4 still does it as well so it's not my phone, it has to be something they screwed up in the new app. Uggghh, nobody else is having this issue??
I got excited seeing a new post in the thread; was hoping someone had some insight. Mine never does it when just plugged in, only on the dock.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 4
Why dont you opt for offline map apps like Sygic or TomTom? This would save your battery,no heating issues will be encountered. As far as I know yes many are facing the same issue as u. So a better option would be offline maps app.
