No matter what I do I get very poor and grainy/blurry photos.
Which settings do you have for various conditions to get the most out of your camera?

Most important:
1) enough light
2) smudge-free lense
Leaving most settings at automatic while applying these 2 rules, usually get me pretty decent pictures... (... For a smartphone, considering its lense and size)

I love my gs2 but i have a really big gripe about the pictures from facebook. Viewing the same picture on my missus sensation it seems of much lower quality. Is there a setting i need to select to download high res pics? Both pics were downloaded using wifi so its not my carrier shrinking them down.

Let me try to answer you,
The Sensation has higher resolution (qHD) than the SGS2 (WVGA).
therefore, Facebook (or any other) pics will be more Fine on the Sensation, because they are not been maximized to fit the screens.
So, its normal.

As we all know, instagram isnt here yet. Ive used it before and i really enjoyed the real-time effect previews before you snap a picture. Is there any camera app for android with real-time capabilities? I dont care about the social aspects of the app, as long as it has real-time previews. Ideas?

Um? anyone?
It does not have realtime, but after you take a picture, you can compare the effect with the original by touching the picture. Camera360. At least it's worth a try.

Umm... Realtime effects, the only one I know had this capability is "Paper Camera". However its real time effects might not be the kind you're looking for... It captures with a comic, sketch or painting-like effects.. Latest update comes with video recording in the desired mode too..

Thanks for the tips! I've used both, and i have to say paper camera is really amazing. But ataraxy was right, the real time effects are not the effects im looking for...
try Nemus Camera
iphone has a app called ''Action Movie FX'' you filmed something and then it processed and put's an explosion, would be realy cool to see it on android.
nemus camera is very good!!
I am used to using my dslr all the time and when I use my phone for pictures I get so fustrated with no true controls. Are there any apps that allow the use of shutter speeds. I know fstop aint happening with the fixed lens.

I am looking forward to buying a camera app called Camera Zoom FX (which looks really attractive by the way) , but I saw a lot of free one's and there are several mods here also so I would like to take an opinion, is it worth it? Or is there some other app free or even better than that?
Note: I actually like the several extra features given, especially "Burst Shot".

Hmm no replies so I guess not many people tried this, well fear not I am using it now and it makes the stock camera app look ugly, the burst shot, stable shot modes are amazing and it has a super zoom feature control. Fully recommended.

My camera really seems to be worse than the S3 so I am starting to think I don't have the settings tweaked. Should I be at the 13 Megapixel setting or 9? Also the pictures are good with flash but the ones without them are worse than my S3 in similar lighting by far!
13mp is a 4:3 aspect ratio, while 9mp is 16:9. I personally prefer 4:3 for photos so I use 13mp.

I agree. I have been disappointed in the camera when compared to my S3. The camera feels slower and I have more blurry pics than I did with my S3.

Try the anti-shake setting. That helped

Yeah, the anti-shake setting does seem to help, but taking pictures in a dim environment (inside my house) without the flash is difficult. Also, for indoor pictures, I've noticed that the actual picture taken looks darker than what is seen on the screen at the time of taking the picture.

It doesn't take a really good picture low light. I usually have flash on auto. and also set my phone to dynamic.

So, your phone doesn't show a darker picture in the Gallery than what's actually on the screen when the shutter closes? And my screen is set to Standard...does that matter?

Yeah, auto-flash and anti-shake seems to be the way to go for dim environments.

Thanks for this fellas. I've not had a chance to use mine inside yet and this is great information to have. Although I do mostly take outside pictures I'm sure the time will come.

With it set on dynamic it makes it brighter on the phone overall. Of course the phone isn't going to be able to take really great low-light pictures but it makes your screen brighter with more vibrant colors.
