Best way to transfer contacts from Palm Pre - - HTC EVO 3D

Hello everyone,
I have read the other threads about transferring contacts and the problems with acounts not syncing correctly/ phone numbers showing up in texts especially when the google and the facebook decide to wage WAR.
I am wondering what is the best way to transfer all contacts from a palm pre without any errors or issues of any kind.
I prefer not to upload to any kind of cloud if possible ....for fear of big brother... although if that is the way....SO BE IT!!!!!!!
Thank you!

Without the cloud... pencil and paper.
I live by google contacts.. never had a problem with it on the Evo 3d.

Make sure all of your Pre contacts are saved to your GMail account. When you add your GMail account to your 3D they will download back to your phone. If you already had the Pre deactivated, you should be able to turn on WiFi to do a sync.
- Don't worry you can trust the cloud (until it rains and you are struck by lightning).

Dial ##66623# on your Pre
Click Export
Attach USB (when prompted) and pull file off your Pre.
The file will be called PmMigration.vcf in a folder named "temp". If you don't see this folder, be sure to show hidden files.
Import the file to your Gmail.
Then sync all your contacts with your new 3D. I just did this on my old Evo for my wife. Worked flawlessly.

Phone contacts to google account?

Hi
I got my hero last week and i'm loving it at the moment. I want to back up all my contacts to my google account to make them easy to manage and for back up reasons. For some reason though when the phone syncs it doesn't load my existing contacts(carried onto my hero by sim from my old diamond) into my google contacts?
If I create a new contact on either phone or pc it updates the other accordingly but i just cant get my existing contacts to my google contacts.
I can see the ones that update are labeled as google contacts so i'm guessing i have to label my exisisting ones somehow???
Someone please help as i dont want to have to create all my contacts again
Thanks in advance
gaz
Anyone?.........Please!!!!

I've been looking at this too. One of the groups from my phone has synced to Gmail, but no contacts. Still looking....

Ok, there is a piece of software on the market which moves contacts from "Phone" to "Google". I'm just googleing to see what it is as I can't remember.
Not sure how effective it is, haven't tried it as I've always synced my contacts to google even on WinMo.
Actually, have you tried doing it that way 1st? Set your Diamond to have an ActiveSync with google (m.google.com) and use your google user id and password. This will send all the contacts from your phone to google. Then sync your Hero.
I can't find the program at the minute (10 minutes of looking) but I'm sure its in this Hero forum somewhere about it. Will have another look in a bit

Sync Oddness

Ok, got the Hero (after a diamond and trinity) works nice BUT what is with the HTC Sync Thing?
Everytime it connects it udates random conacts from Outlook, so that at the moment the wife has 4 entries and some other numbers are the same yet others are fine.
ANyone else any experience and more importantly how to heck do I stop it?!
ta muchly
What? Really? HTC Sync lets you synchronize Outlook or Windows Address Book contacts on your PC with your Hero.

Just don't use it! there is nothing to say you have to use 'HTC Sync'.
I never use it as I don't want the contacts in Outlook to sync to my Hero. I just use my google contacts for this.
No there is nothing saying I HAVE to use HTC Sync however if I want to put all my contacts across in one easy go then the options seem a little limited.
Fixed it now just told it not to auto sync and that seems to have got control back to me
Glad to hear you got it sorted...
I know there are limited options when 'sync-ing' contacts to your Hero.
I used 'ExportContacts' app in the market to export all my 'old' SIM contacts into a csv file. I then exported my contacts from outlook also to a csv file which can then be imported into your Google account.
All to do then was to 'merge' all of the contacts in my Google account. This then syncs with the phone and I never bothered to use HTC Sync.
Makes sense, I dont use the google address book as I tend to keep the data useage to a minimum mainly as when at work we dont even have a phone signal, so prefer to carry everything "locally" properly, hence the much abused and hated outlook ;0

[Q] About contacts

Went to sprint store and they said the best way to do contacts is to get it the way you wanted under gmail.com contacts and then sync it.
I finally got the contacts the way I wanted, but I want to know:
1) How to completely clear out what's on the phone now
2) Sync it with what's up on gmail contacts
How do I do this?
Thanks
Brad

well i just jumped inot the "PEOPLE" program we got and if u click MENU and then "VIEW"....u can select and de-select which contacts u would like on yur device....ex: twitter, phone, ect, ect, ect.....
at least that how i figured out how to managed which contacts u got on yur phone....also, ive used GMAIL on my PC to manage my contacts as well....hope i didnt make this confusing for ya LOL
Go to setting/applications/mange apps
Then find contact storage. The clear data. Then go to settings/account and sync then enable background data then press on your email and then choose sync contacts and you should be good.
Locked & Loaded
" Shooter on Deck"
THANKS!
That worked!
Now one last question.
If memory serves, as people send me emails, they get added to my "contacts" under gmail automatically and thus would get sync'd automatically to my phone. How do I prevent or manage this? I get TONS of SPAM every day (200+ new emails) and don't want everyone coming over to my phone as contacts!

You can select only view contacts with phone numbers in the settings/view of the people app. But I believe if you go into gmail and your computer under settings you can disable automatic contacts add. I use gmail and my contacts only add if I tell it too.
I'm pretty sure it only adds a email address to ur contact list of it matches an existing contact or you add them on google talk or something

[Q] Restore or sync contacts in ICS

I am rooted! YAY! I didn't know that my contacts with fb would not sync, and neither are all of mine from google. booo!
Is there any way to get my facebook contacts to sync with my phone contacts? I really liked having all those pics for everyone, plus all of the other contact info. I didn't know that the backup my phone was syncing with every day (was it with verizon?) on stock GB was not a contact list that I would not be able to use on ICS. I lost a lot of contacts. How do I get all of my google contacts to show up, and how come it's only showing me some of them, and not all of them? Where do I go to manage all of my google contacts and get them on my phone? Do I do that from the desktop gmail in my pc browser?
Also, is there a way to make the contact manager list the contacts without the ginormous pictures in a side-by-side fashion? I really don't like the look or feel of it, is there a better way?
ETA: This might be helpful, duh, sorry

For google just set your gmail up or google voice and they should automatically show up.
Just do a google search. Thats what I did.
well, that is incredibly outdated and poorly written information, but thanks.

You're going to have to use an app such as HaxSync if you want to sync your Facebook contacts in ICS.
different contact manager for ICS?

thank you! I knew their had to be a way. Is there a different contacts manager for ICS? I really dislike the one that it comes with. Maybe I am just too used to the one that GB had, but I find the one is ICS to very unwieldy.

[Q] Contacts hang with 25,000+ contacts

Is there a problem with the contacts when using more than a few thousand contacts?
hope you guys can help me, been looking everywhere but can't find a solution :S
I am trying to sync a Galaxy S2 (completely stock) with outlook using kies, the thing is that there are about 25,000 contacts in outlook, Kies takes about 1 hour to complete, sometimes it doesn't even complete, it hangs at different % (at 0% or 25% or 65% or 70%, randomly) but once it does, I open the contacts in the Galaxy s2 and it hangs when I want to do anything with the contacts, like search them.
This is what I have tried so far:
Clear Contacts storage cache
Clear Contacts storage completely and re-sync again
used go contact EX form the market
the owner does not want to soft-reset the phone,I don't think it would work anyway because the phone is literally days old everything is fresh and completely stock.
the owner does not want to root the phone and changing a ROM is completely out of the question.
A few thousand.... But it's 25000 with a plus... LOL
Obviously it hangs. Why do you need 25000 contacts??

The only people with that many contacts are Spammers. Seriously.
Not necessarily. If he has his device hooked up to a corporate account, there could easily be that many employees in Outlook. I think I'd have the same issue if I chose to sync my work contacts.
niabi, I think you'd be better off NOT syncing contacts for that account to the phone. You don't need to. At least, I don't.
wow thanks for all the "nice" replies... first of all I am not a spammer, second it is not my phone, its the company owner's phone... why does he need 25,000+ contacts? god knows! but then again... company owners usually don't explain stuff, but I am sure it is not to send spam, its he's list, and only he has access to it.
I tried explaining it would hang with so many contacts, but the problem is he had an HTC that had the same amount of contacts on it and the phone worked fine, so (without being asked a spammer, thank you) ... is there any chance, anyone knows any way of how to make this work ? or should I just tell him its impossible?

As I said, he doesn't NEED the contacts on the Exchange account synced. I don't have contacts synced to my Exchange account, but when I start typing names when composing emails, the app still finds Exchange contacts that are NOT in my phone.
Why else would he need them synced?
If he needs it to look up company contacts' phone numbers, you could recommend the "Corporate Addressbook" app from the Play Store. I use it. It means I have to update my password in two places when I change it, but I prefer that to having tens of thousands of company contacts on my phone.
This stinks... of really dodgy BS

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. If I synced my Exchange contacts, I'd have tens of thousands of contacts as well.
