Contacts and data lost. Help! - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been rooting my phone now for like 2 days and Every time I think everything is going good all my stuff gets deleted after I reboot, After I set the whole damn thing up my contacts and whole phone loses all it's data and the back up assistant did a backup over all my 150 to 200 contacts. I went to nameless 4.1 and it happened switched to evil fascination 3.6. Then I thought it was the new roms so I said screw it ill go back to dark revenge 4.0 but every time it happens. Did I do something wrong or am I just overlooking it. And if so What steps should I take to start over.

As far as contacts, just export your contact list to a .vcf file and it will backup all your contacts to your sd card. In contacts, go to settings, then import/export.

Artvandelay...is correct, even though he is a marine biologist!...lol love the name...any way if your contacts are still missing...and I'm assuming you did the smart thing of doing a nandroid backup right?? If so restore your backup...you'll get your contacts back..go into contacts...hit menu and select export contacts to sd card...re flash your rom and then import your contacts by going to contacts and selecting import contact from sd

2 Qs Titanium backup and wallpaper

I just updated to gingerbread. Im liking it.
Im trying to add my events from my prior calender to my new one. I tried restoring the data and app and then the data and nothing appears. This also goes for my contact list. What a pain. Let me know what im doing wrong.
The wallpaper is such a headache to get right. Is there anyway i dont have to use that green box so the image isnt distorted?
Thank you

Your contacts aren't saved to your google account? Isn't calendar saved to google too?

Agree with Josh.
Your contacts and calendar should be synced through Google. That should be the easiest thing when switching ROM's.
And I don't personally like Titanium, On a fresh ROM install I rather let it re-download the apps for a fresh install. Time consuming, but worth it.
nothing comes back the gmail account is checked under calendars.
I'm new to this, but I'm on my third rom. I had contacts uploaded via Backup Assistant and apps and data through Titanium Pro. I know this is a stupid question, but did you actually go into Titanium. backup/restore, and click run?

[Q] Need some serious help with SMS's

Hi all new here, go easy on me... haha
So I updated to gingerbread on my LG O1 (P500), but before I did that I made a backup of my texts with SMS Backup & Restore. I restored them on the new install, little did I know it would import them all as unread (roughly 5.5k of them)... so now my messaging app is completely useless - crashes every time it opens. I tried several apps to delete all the texts on the phone but they all crash, and I cant sit and let them run for a few hours because android pops up every few seconds informing me they've crashed/are lagging.
I really need to use messaging on my phone, dont care if I have the texts on the phone or not, just would like it to work... help??
Factory reset is probably your best option
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
how about restoring bits by bits? Say 100 at a time, and then check to see if your phone could handle them
Cheers did the factory restore. Not sure how to restore them in parts? They're all stored in one file.

Backing up contacts before flashing?

Simple question for all you flashers out there. Setting up and linking my conacts between haxsync, Facebook and google takes hours these days, Is there a way to back up all these setting so I don't have to keep linking everytim I flash?
Are you a GSM user???I think you could copy all of your adress book to your sim card and just import them later.

Get contapps in the market. Its the best. Not so easy to find.

exporting to the sim doesnt work. 1. not enough room on the sim. 2. you really dont want to import your contacts when using google to back them up, you wind up with duplicates of everything. All I want is to back up the links between facebook, haxsync and google. I know it seems petty, but that **** takes HOURS to fix right again. Just for that reason alone makes me not want to flash ROMS, and i like flashing...
I downloaded Titanium last night and made a backup of contact/calls. I read somewhere that this backup will do what i want. I will let you guys know sometime today.
I will be waiting your feedback, cause anytime soon my contacts list will get too big and cause the same problem to me.
Just wanted to let you guys know that Titanium works perfectly to restore all of your links from Facebook, Haxsync and Google!!! I have been using Mybackup pro for years now and I can't believe what I've been missing in a back up utility.
Edit: i just want to add, if you don't want to back up all of you data and apk's, just back up contacts/calls, data and apk. this will bring you right back where you want to be.

Two Questions... Phone book & App Backup

I I was wondering if there are any programs where I could do GREAT backups.
Mainly 1 for phonebook, so that I can safely copy all my contacts and modify them from the computer. I have like 300 numbers but want to erase 200 of them while still having them on computer if I need them. I can't find a reliable app to do this so am wondering if anyone has any experiences in it.
The 2nd backup I'm looking for is an APP one. It doesn't hve to necessarily backup the apps, but at least be able to queue all of them I want RE-installed and download them all from the google play store or something. I want to get into flashing ROMS, but I have like 7 pages of apps already that I don't want to lose, as I'm still sorting through trying to find the ones that work best for me so I can remove all the extras.
First off, I think these could've been answered by searching, so please do that in the future.
If your contacts are stored as Google contacts (as they should be), you can edit them from GMail. On the top left corner of the page, there is a menu that says "GMail." Click it and select "Contacts." I've found this to be the easiest way. It'll also always backup your contacts, and you can restore old versions of your contact list if you need to do so. (Since you talk about wanting to delete them from the phone, but keep a record of them, if you delete them from GMail and remember the date when you had them all in there, you can always restore it back to that date and they'll all be back.)
Also, from the People app, you can go to Menu -> Manage Contacts, and export the data.
Regarding backing up apps, this is the main reason I don't think you've done any research at all. There's a very-well-talked-about app called Titanium Backup that will backup and restore every app on your phone. You have to buy the key for it to restore all of them without your involvement--the free version requires you to give permissions to install each app.
First off, I did search prior to asking the question and could not find what I was looking for. There is no need to be rude, as searching was obviously the first step anyone would or at least SHOULD take before asking such a question.
As for your replies, I have chosen sync in my contacts, but they will not show up in Google for some reason. I've tried tons of ways, and it shows like it is syncing, but when I check... nothing there. I don't know if something is wrong in my settings or what, but I've tried many times... it just won't work for me for some reason. Maybe it's because I have 6 google accounts attached to phone, and even though I'm only syncing 1, it is mixing them up or something.
And I already have Titanium Backup, it keeps crashing on my phone for some reason, which is why I was looking for an alternative. I have over 300 apps on my phone right now. I know that's horrid, but I downloaded a ton of them for the same things so I can test them and find the ones I liked best, in which I plan to mark them all, re-flash the phone with whatever ROM (later once full rooting with S-off and everything has been tested more thoroughly), and only install those apps I liked, which should bring it down to maybe 100 apps or so.
I do understand I might SEEM like I didn't search, but trust me... I did.
Anyways, I thank you for your response (both the neg and the pos), and your time was greatly appreciated. I am about to toy with my settings and see if something is blocking the sync or something. I didn't know you could export from the people app though, so thanks for that especially.
UPDATE:
Man, thanks! That export feature is NICE! going to see how easy it is to modify it shortly, hopefully it's readable in Excel.
Regarding Titanium Backup, you are rooted and have granted Titanium Backup superuser permissions, correct?
Yes, I used that 1 click .bat file (from the first method that was shown). I think my superuser app was corrupt, so I re-downloaded it and it's working fine now. Thank you.

I ran into an issue with TB when I tried restoring from my OG EVO. I am rooted in the EVOLTE but not running a custom ROM. the ROM I was running was deodexed. Stock EVOLTE is not so I was unsuccessful in my restore. I bought mybackup pro and WA able to restore SMS and .MMS this way. Not sure I'd you are having the same issues or not though

I agree, all contacts should be on google...then theres no worry about backups (ive had 3 android phones and a tablet and they all auto sync the contacts instantly).
Editing them on the computer is a breeze, the duplicate find/merge feature is simple and works very well.
What exactly are you all doing to make them sync though?
I went to Accounts & Sync
> selected the one GMAIL that I want the numbers synced to and hit sync now, but it doesn't do anything.

TitaniumBackup Contacts Restore :(

Hi,
I've been helping my dad upgrade from a stock 4.1.2 ROM which has been really playing up lately, to a nice new 4.4.4 ROM Ehndroix which I have to say I'm very impressed with. It's breathed life into what was really a terrible phone just a few hours ago.
Here's the problem though Google Sync adamantly refused to backup his contacts before upgrading. I tried everything to make it work but it just would not do it. So, I decided to chance Titanium. Normally, when I've done Titanium, it's been messages that haven't worked, however this time, messages are fine and contacts is broken, causing the standard android.......acore is forced close issue.
I know I should have made a vCard and I'm desperately hoping I've got one backed up from when I did it last time, because I normally do, but I didn't this time. My bad, I know.
It must be possible to go into the raw tar files and somehow extract the numbers. Even if it's just name to number with WordPad, ill bloody type them in manually or chuck a quick apk together to do it for me. Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice here what to do.
Please no captain hindsights "you really should have used SMS Backup Plus" or whatever what's done is done, just trying to make the best of it
Thanks

Contacts restore from titanium backup is not recommended when upgrading or changing roms as there will be different contact apps. With tar files, I don't think there is any way to extract contacts from them (well none that I've heard of). If you look at a vcard structure, you should be able to recreate a similar file that should work under the contacts app. It is a very complex structure so you can use the tool in office outlook (assuming that you created contacts in outlook) to export contacts into a .vcf file.
