I'm really hitting a dead end with my phone recently. I flashed devoid froyo final with Franco's kernel v18 and have been getting horrible battery life. I'm not sure if I calibrated my battery correctly and I doubt its the rom or kernel at fault since everyone else is getting fantastic battery life. I have been using void echo until last month when I switched to the more updated roms of open optimus and devoid with Francos kernel since v12 i think.
I had great battery life with void echo but since moving up to the newer ones and newer kernel, its been horrible.
Can someone help me on what to do to properly calibrate my battery? And maybe on what app to use to find out the cause of the problem?

Charge your phone fully, calibrate battery using battery calibrate app, disconnect your phone, let it drain completely, then charge to 100% without pause.

With data on you will loose hell lot of battery either with FKv17 or FKv18....Desable data when u not need it..it will improve your battery strength.... And as suggested use full charge and discharge process to get every penny from battery.
probably install watchdog to check if some internet related app is draining your battery....uninstall those and watchdog after your work is done as wastchdog also consumes little battery....
flash void# forever i suggest...and wipe everything to start fresh....

I charge to 100%, wipe batt stats from recovery, discharge to 0, take out batt, put on, try to on the phone for 3 times, then charge to 100% without using the phone
Battery Calibration
I've been doing the following steps after flashing new ROMs or if I just want to calibrate my battery:
1) Recharge the battery to 100%
2) Reboot into recovery without disconnecting the charger
3) Wipe battery stats
4) Reboot & wait until your phone is fully operational
5) Disconnect the charger
6) Use the phone as normal & let the battery drain to 0%
7) Recharge the battery to 100% preferably with the phone switched off
8) Disconnect the charger & use the phone as normal

please kill these apps. u dont need these apps running while u and ur phone is sleeping.there is a batter drain of only 2% for every 8hrs of sleep (tested by me only)
1)maps
2)market
3)browser
4)google voice
5)google contact sync
6)google calender sync
7)market feed back agent
8)google back up transport
9)user dictionary
10)dsp manager
11)and in the last (last only)google service frame work.
please dont use antivirus softs and process managing apps( Grow up)
if ur so particular in using a process manager use super manager.

Before you start doing this make sure you have time on your hands.
Follow it step by step...
Read the entire set of steps and comments first.
Do not deviate.
If you are having issue's with it not charging fully. "70% to 90% and no further." then begin at step 7
If you have Xrecovery installed wipe battery stats first to reset the battery cache to the defaults.
This post will not talk about apps or any odd mods.
It's here to clear up on how to properly optimize the battery in your phone.
The battery has a cache file used to set the top and bottom battery level.
Today i am gona teach you how to set it correctly using nothing more than your phone and charger.
While doing this it will also properly "cycle" the cells.
1. Charge your phone fully to 100%
2. Plug out your charger & switch off your phone.
3. Remove the battery and plug in the charger.
4. Re-insert your battery
This is sets the top end battery parameter to a higher state allowing for further charging.
Should read 88% now.
5. Keep a eye on your phone as it charges!!!
Remove the back plate and feel if it's getting hot "it should not be a issue"
6. Repeat steps 1 to 5
Repeat this no more than 2 to 5 times till the battery will not charge further
A few extra may be required...
The battery may get stuck at 70% to 99% "most of the time 88%"
The cells have now reached full potential
IF in the case that it keeps charging after the 5th time your battery is fully optimized Enjoy
7. Let your phone run down it's battery
Don't use the phone aggressively
Leave it till it switches itself off
Now it has marked the very lowest point of the cell in the cache
8. Don't leave the battery empty, begin charging as soon as possible.
If your phone does not switch on right away.. relax.
Just leave it on charge for about a hour "will switch itself on"
9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 a few times.
You will notice each time that the battery may charge just slightly bellow 100%
Getting closer to 100% each time
10.Soon it will read 100%
It has now marked the top charged point for the cells
If step 7&8 does not bring the battery to 100% use the battery calibration app from the market.

I think this is for x10 only, 'cause it haves a different CHMON (just saying, no sure thing)

Battery drain can also cause due to some buggy apps that keep running in background, and taking lots of cpu usage during sleep.
If you are sure you have calibrated the battery correctly, and still facing problem with the drainage, I would suggest to try an app "systempanel" from market.(paid)

Keep the monitoring tool on for a day, this apps itself will consume few pinch of your battery for keep running in background, but once it generates the reports: you will know what apps are exactly using your phones CPU/Data/battery % etc which will help you to remove such buggy apps.

I am new to the roms/kernals just got on it this month or so but i am using community rom 1.3 nd OTB 1.3 kernal and my battery is HORIBLE!! it will go down 10% with no wifi nd no data in like ten minutes. Can someone please help me set up my voltage control or tell me what is going on and why my battery is so bad? Thanks

Try Battery Calibration.
Charge your phone to 100% "on" > turn your phone "off" and charge up to 100% > Turn "on" and charger again to 100% > Go into Recovery > Advanced > Wipe Bstats.
If it doesn't work, let me know.
1% a min, that has to be a calibration issue. deff try what the second post said first.
ok so i just did what you told me and it is still dropping bad. i just finished it like 10 mins ago and its aready 96% with no data no wifi still idk what to do andymore.
you have to let it go through several calibrations. Charge to 100% and let it die, and recharge to 100%. go through this process several times and you will see improvement.

When addressing the massive battery drain of Froyo ROMS, the battery stats wipe / calibrate is weak and pathetic. It only works as a placebo for people who don't have a scientific approach to battery drain.
Froyo ROMS on Fascinate have all kinds of battery issues. Some people notice them, some don't. Do the following and it may help:
1) toggle airplane mode each boot
2) enter / exit maps each boot
3) disable location services
4) set wifi sleep plcy. to screen off
5) disable auto rotation
Iphone 4: excellent battery life out of the box. No hacks. No forum trolling. What a novel idea!

I don't think 1% an min can be attributed to any run away process or any normal or abnormal use. I may be wrong but I don't think that kind of drain rate is possible without an actual short in the hardware. I would love to hear the devs chime in on the calibration issue as my only knowledge of it is just repeating what I've read.
Oh and unplugging your phone and finding that your down to 95% is normal. Your phone won't hold the 100% charge to prevent damage from over charge. When charging it will hit 100% then stop until out drops to around 95% them start back up again.
So don't count what it "drops" in the first few secs after unplugging.

Why don't you try a different kernel? Maybe the PB&J variety?

If your rooted, try battery calibration. Plenty of threads about, and varying methods.
If not, another battery, and if new, ensure charge fully, phone off, overnight, before first boot.

forgot to mention i'm running [Rom]Wanam v3.2 at that time, currently on v3.4, the dark extended areas is me at work where i turn airplane mode on due to serious bad reception at work... sync is on rest of the time for gmail/whatsapp/kakao other than that manual updates on twit and some news apps...
u can see the first jump in the first pic, that was due to me exchanging with 1st spare battery( got 4 + original batt= total of 5)
i dont know if its the phone and exchanging batteries thats causing such high battery losses at the end of the battery life...
plus yesterday and the day before battery goes crazy when it reaches 30-20% and when i go for a restart to freshen things up... the phone wont switch on thinking the battery is totally dead... i put in the new battery and its @ 100% ... switch back to the old battery to see where the 30-20% went... it wont start...
now im thinking... keeping 1 battery in the phone with a charge from 0-100% actually takes the phone all the way to 0% but exchanging the battery wont...
how am i supposed to use the full potential of the batteries...

been using this app since my old sgs, it sure works and have been using it ever since...
tho in the [Rom]Wanam ... install procedure says that its backing up the battery stats and this lead me to think that a batt calibration is not needed... or am i wrong to think so?
If you change batteries, all previous data will be irrelevant, and you need to calibrate each time. You can do things manually by installing battery monitor widget, charge to 100% AND until the mA reaches zero (Voltage spills be approx 4200mV). At this point, quickly delete battery stats (menu / stats /) and immediately unplug.

Thing is, what's the use of having spare batteries if this will happen on each battery swap and having to go thru calibration means having a charger nearby...
and by 0% i didnt actually mean 0 but till that 1% turned the phone off
if what u said is true, then i guess i need some kind of script to help and keep the batt data even after swapping.. based on 1 good calibrated file swapping batteries should start from a certain point even if the batteries do lose some of their charge but continue to moniter things as they were... i dunno if what i said makes sense... correct me if i'm wrong
Not really 100% sure, but sure I have not always calibrated after a battery swap in the dhd..The previous battery was calibrated and performing well, and the replacement would have been very close to 100% charge. I didn't notice any irregularities in the battery data, or battery drain.
So I suppose a good bat stats file should help the phone showing relatively "accurate" data after a battery swap, if they're both "conditioned" (gone through a number of charging cycles, not straight out of thre box)
Maybe I could be wrong, but based on past experience.

Have you tried different radios/modems for better reception? if your phone is struggling to get decent reception its going to use your battery.
You could try changing to 2G only in wireless settings. used to help me alot.

i'm already using it steve, thanx for the helpful info ^_^ , tho it has nothing to do with my strange problem... before going to work i switch to 2g coz i mainly use it for calls so after work is done, i wanna have fun with the phone so its back to 3g... i hardly have reception as i mentioned before is due to really thick walls and working underground in some rooms... its just common sense... plus im on latest modem and its actually performing better than other phones (nokia,BB,moto,iphones....) at where i work, 5 guys got convinced and got a sgs2 coz of mine lol
I run my P500 with two batterys, the official LG one and one i got elsewhere as a reserve, i usualy run the reserve and it usualy lasts 2+ days with ease.
However after updateing to 2.3.3 v20g i noticed a issue with the battery getting to around 30/40% then within 15-30 mins 0% and phone shutting off, after reading up i noticed about removing the battery cache.
I dont recall seeing this option in clockworkmod but anyway i later removed clockworkmod and totaly reset my phone with just the v20g rom.
Put my LG battery in, went 48+ hours no problem, put my other battery in and again when i hit 30-40% the drain hits really fast and soon after the phone shuts down, this battery worked fine with 2.2!
Im unsure if the battery cache stores info for seperate batterys or not? also my phone is running limited apps and not much going on in the background.
And my final question is does rooting a phone cause anymore drain than usual? my phone is currently unrooted as Gingerbreak refused to work on my phone last time i tryed it.

Well since the official battery doesn't cause this problem, the only conclusion is that your other battery has developed a fault. If you think this is being caused by updating, then the update should affect both batteries equally, not in this way. I would say it is a problem with your other battery.
And recovery and/or root are not in any way related to the battery life.
maybe the reserve battery you have is from China ......
anyway the capacitor should be spoiled or battery leak.

One way to check if there is any problem with the battery is to install Battery Monitor Widget and record a full discharge with a constant current as I did ( see 78michel.unblog.fr/HTC Desire battery shutdown analysis)
I got a constant discharge current o about 250mA with ''GPS test'' with ''keep screen on '' option.
This is a very simple way to have a quite precise battery capacity evaluation.

I'm very happy with it, however, there's a problem
On official froyo and 2.3.3 official gingerbread, i had the data connection ON and wifi on,too.So whenever I left the house, it would switch to data.And it wasn't on 2g,it was on HSDPA. Anyway, the battery consumption was barely noticeable,especially in standby mode.
However, if i do the same thing now, on CM, the battery drain is enormous
Wifi does not consume a lot, but whenever it switches to mobile data, the battery consumption is 10% / HOUR in IDLE mode, using the Smartass governor 245-600MHz, making the phone useless. And this is the consumption in standby mode...when I use it it's a lot worse. This problem makes me unable to use the mobile internet without returning home with a dead phone.
Is there a fix for this? Does anyone have the same problem?
Yes, i have the latest version of CM7, for my model,p500. Is it because of the old baseband?

i encountered this for the first few days when i flashed to CM7 too
battery drop so quickly even when its at standby mode for 8 straight hours.
but after using for weeks, the battery begun to last longer, can last up to 2 days with light usage (some texting and tweeting)
im getting minimum of 4 days battery on cm7 -.-

2. Reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Completely discharge the phone till the state it switches off.
4. Charge again.

This is not usual.
I'm getting few days with CM7. Try calibrating the battery with Battery Calibrator from the market.
I already calibrated with the app from the Market
Charged to 100% ,Calibrated,discharged to 0%,then fully charged.
I did this twice.i dont think this is the problem.
I did a test :
Yesterday,when I first saw the problem,i had data enabled.I got 10 hours of battery life with the phone Idle (locked,yes.)
Today, i didn't enable data.I had 99% battery after 2 hours of idling. I guess that's normal.
So, i already know the problem. the data connection does this to the battery,but why?... as i said,when I was using the official froyo and gingerbread,i had both data and wifi enabled and i had absolutely no problem with battery drain...

This is called battery calibration.Whenever u flash a new rom,u need to calibrate ur battery so that it wont show u the stats of ur previous rom.If u dont wipe battery stats,sometimes the phone may switch off fue to low power at 15-20% or strange things like virtual increase in battery % by 2-3 %.So it is required to wipe battery stats,so after booting the phone,a new battery stats file is created and it wont give false info.

There's no need to completely discharge a Li-ion battery, it can in fact damage the battery.
Proper steps:
1. Charge your battery to 100 percent.
2. With phone still plugged in, reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats.
3. Reboot phone
4. Wait for phone to completely boot up then unplug.
5. Calibration complete

Wait !!!!!if its only bcos of data i have a solution!its because unwanted apps n process use data n consume charge ..so go to market --download droidwall ..and manage apps tmwhich you require connectivity for

I checked for apps that consume internet.I don't have any.Facebook would be one,but that's all.
I read something about the older versions (official ones) of the firmware using something called NETMGRD to reduce the battery drain caused by the APN being on..
what do you guys think about this?

im not sure but according my exoerience even the android sytem sometimes uses internet..
once when i checked my battery usage is saw something names MEDIA SERVER poping up!havent seen that before and i was having say 5%battery darin in 10 minutes with screen off and wifi connected n active!!so then i got droidwall and blocked everything except for ones that i needed like market,xda,browser etc!and i saw that thing named media server go down n my battery lasted longer..had about 1-2 %drain with 3g active and screen off!else it usually will be higher!

That's pretty outdated kernel. Flash a new one.
I get good battery life using the 2x Battery program that cuts off the 3G data when the screen is off and opens it at a set time (every 30 mins on mine) to check for email etc instead of constantly when the screen is off.
One of your major killers i see is the constant WiFi, with it and GPS if your not actively using them turn them off.

Forgot to add, the rule of thumb is anything that uses a hardware component uses battery power.

Cell Radio (2g,3g,Phone)
Screen
Vibrate motor
Speaker
It takes power to make those work so the less you use some of them the longer the battery lasts.
Anyone that drives at night knows the effect of turning on the wipers, the radio, the lights and the blower fan on high to clear off the windshield and seeing the voltage gauge lowering from the heavy voltage draw.

No such thing. After you flash a new rom, charge the phone to 100%, turn it off, remove the battery for 30 seconds, replace the battery, turn phone on, enjoy.
Anyone selling you the whole calibration thing is selling you voodoo.

There's lots of battery apps on Google Play, there's no such thing as the best one, go have a look under the Tools section in Apps (you'll also find some under productivity). Stay away from apps like Juice Defender that claim to save you battery by doing things automatically which you can do yourself in two seconds, these have been proven time & again on XDA to use more juice than they save.

actually it cannot. this way you only help the system in your phone recognize full capacity of battery (which is not even full because not one battery works at it's full capacity - but it's fullest you will get at this point of your battery life). when it's about calibrating - listen to MistahBungle - it's all voodoo. you cannot calibrate li-ion battery unless you kill it and then revive. by killing it I don't mean depleting it in your phone, because even when phone shows the battery is fully depleted it's really not - there is still some juice in it. you'd have to use e.g. special charger which can drawn juice out of battery and make it really empty. only then your battery is dead and useless. you may revive it by applying cca. 5V but actually it not always works. so you cannot calibrate your battery in home environment.
what you can do is "re-calibrating" so called fuel gauge (description under links given below) and you may also help your system recognize the real state of your battery charge. sometimes it happens that systems readings are wrong and battery is on 85% but system is reading it as 50 or 100%. to help it read battery chip correctly you do the thing MistahBungle so helpfully described. sometimes you even don't have to do it but wait 2-3 charging cycles and system will adjust it's reading itself. by charging cycles I mean charging like from 20-100%. why not from 0%? because even if it's not a real depletion state, li-ion batteries doesn't like the state of being discharged too much.

and is there any way to stop auto startups of apps?i have around 200apps and most of them i use around once a day or not even once
i use android assistant to manage startup but it does on boot and after some time if i check running apps most of apps will be there running
is there any app to block it running automatically? not just at startup ? full control like anything?

actually I cannot help with that. I don't use such a software and really don't believe in it. but, the fact is that I do not use so many apps. other fact is that surely there is some useful software that could help you with that task, i just do not use one and personally I'm not interested in it. I know that perhaps the best method is to freeze them with titanium but if you use these apps from time to time then it would become complicated and not worth the effort.
still I have few questions:
why would you like to stop them from working? do they drain your battery? if so then check your logs with bbs and find out which ones are draining, try to change their setting or get rid of them, or at least close only these ones. long time ago I was fighting with some apps that I do not use often and they start themselves from time to time. I didn't want to get rid of them, so before every night I was killing them one-by-one from applications menu (actually most of them didn't wake up until I ran them myself). finally, after many tests I got to the point that it doesn't make any difference. apps I was killing, even if running, didn't use any recourses, didn't produce wakelocks, they were just using some RAM. and if it is the reason of your concern then do not be worried - they may use as much RAM as they want - android will free RAM when it will need it.
now I do not kill any apps and by night I lose 0-2% of battery which is my only concern - what should we care more? CPU, RAM - let it work as long as it doesn't stop us from enjoying our phone and make a usage of it uncomfortable.
and if you're worried about packet data then you may limit it for each app using system menu in ICS.

Thanks dude. I also have the similar problem. I have spent months on it without any improvement. Now I'm quite frustrated and not optimistic on the solution you have provided towards my issue, but your decription gives me a lot of clue.
But my problem is even more tricky, I would like to share it here so see if anyone have met it before, or if I need to start a new thread to deal with it:
The problem can be generally decribed as below:
1. When the battery is fully charged, unplug and consume the juice until the level reach around 30%, then the phone is shut down automatically; after I plugin the power and restart the phone, the battery level is displayed as 0%;
2. After charging for a while from 0% , restart the phone and you will see the battery level directly goes back to 50%, but still with very low voltage;
3. Changing with a new battery won't solve the issue -- though the new battery itself may also have problem(not sure if it is genuine), but I don't think a fake battery and an old battery should behave almost the same, so I don't think it is the battery's problem; criticize if I'm wrong
4. Re-flashing a new rom won't solve the issue either. I have tried different CM9 nightlies and now I'm using CM10 nightlies, none of them is immune to the problem;
5. Clear the battery state won't solve the problem. It is hard to say whether it improves the situation at least a tiny bit. I mean it may work somehow, e.g. My phone used to be shut down at 50% battery level and now it can last to 36%. But it never totally solve the problem once and for all, so I still don't trust this caliberation thing may work.
I hope I have clearly stated my issue. I'm so at the end of my patience, this little bastard have been always torturing me You guys are the last I can count on I really hope I came here earlier so as not to have wasted so much time.
