wanna pay someone... donate to the guys who spend their time making the roms for our enjoyment
I'm surprised no one is jumping on this. It took me under two hours total flashing and tweaking my 6800. I'm sure one of the very knowledgeable developers here could help Dilly over skype and have him/her sorted out in under an hour.
Fourty an hour is more than I (personally) get from my clients! Makes me think that the developers here aren't in need the desperate need of money they claim to be.
its not always about the money bro.....
and just my personal thinking people wud have helped him more if wudn't have mentioned money reward.
Even if you wanted to help him out and if you did ,others might think that your doing it for the reward money....but thats just my opinon.
i have succefully unlocked my phone( Htc mogul - Sprint ) with this few basic things olipro and custom roms so if u didnt got it sorted out do make a post i can provide you with the tools... FOR FREE that is.
Regards,
ZODI.

Sure, but it is about money for the developers who are requesting donations because they're desperately short of money.
I also doubt people would have helped him very much had he not posted a money reward, at best he'd get some links to the wiki and such. Or, an annoyed response to read the Stikys. At least that's how it goes with such posts on most forums I'm familiar with.

You guys talking smak couldve walked him thru it by now. lol.
send me a PM to let me know where you are in the process and what you want to flash to.
Just yesterday I've flashed to DCDs 3.2.6 then rolled back to stock... then wanted to try 3.3.4 then I rolled back to stock again because I just wanted to.
So let me know what you want to flash to, what point your at right now, etc.
And I'll walk you thru it. No charge of course.
There is ALOT of info in the wiki pages though. Thats how I figured it out. Just got to spend about 3 hrs studying that stuff before you commit to doing anything. But if you want to skip that stuff and have me hold your hand thats okay.

Doubtfull, it only takes a minute to write a post. Don't think I could get it all done in five minutes.
Anyways, it's a simple fact that if people really need money, they'll work to get it. That none of the devs took him up on the offer, indicates they do not desperately need money.

SPL 2.40 upgrade from 2.07
Anyone have any ideas for how to upgrade this ROM so I can get the gps running? i have read all the threads, followed the instructions and all I get when I run the 2.40 exe on my HTC 6800(verizon) it stops at the bootloader screen (showing version 2.07) and a have to do a reset to get phone back...it is suppose to flash the rom...nueSPL 2.47 is the actual file... the instruction dont say anything about needing to use an unlocker as some of the threads talk about so I am not certain if I need to do that..

There are only unofficial 2.0/2.1 ROMs available at the moment, and most of them have some issues. For many, they are small enough that they can use these ROMs on a day to day basis, but for others they are not.
If you are a total noob to Android, and your ROM comes with a 2.73 build, I would leave it as it is for now until you get a bit more knowledgeable.

Since you are on PAYG, I take it you won't have much data allowance? If that's the case, you don't want anything with online maps. I use Copilot, which is paid app, but it's *very* cheap for what it is and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Look around these forums for a while, especially the dev forum. Everything you need is here, and you'll get less flak from forum users if you take the time to find it yourself. Of course, if you run into problems post a question, but remember the mantra "search is your friend"!
Regards,
Dave
Thanks alot for your responce i will try searching the reason i do ask though is not through laziness but i am really that stupid when it comes to technology hehe
I would find it and read it and still not have a clue but ty for your answers once more )
How do i check which if i have ROM 2.73 build ? and if its not i take it i would need to find and install that build somehow?
But yes as you said i am a total noob so i guess waiting untill the official 2.0 update is availible.
The copilot you suggest sounds good as thats the main thing i will probably use. Would you have a link to the cheapest or best place to get that from?
So ty for the suggestion.
Since you don't want to stand up and be counted because you are afraid of being PM'd to death, take some time to answer the poll.
I suspect that the current root methods that are being worked on are being worked on by the rest of us and not being touched by the devs.
Prove me wrong, because as far as I can tell, all the devs are rooted and in ROM la-la land not giving two Sh!ts about the rest of us.
BTW - not a leaker. My phone was broken and replaced with a 2.1 RUU with 1.49.0000.

Amen to that. This is the kind of bullsh** that makes devs run away from our community, not towards it. If you want to ***** at somebody, call up HTC and tell them you can't root your phone. I'm sure they will be VERY sympathetic and offer to send you an Incredible instead.
lol sucks for u
You are a prime example of a entitlement complex. Seriously, they already dedicate all their spare time to us and helping us. If you're so pissy about it, you find out a way and help the community, don't sit there and *****.
I can pretty much guarantee you the SECOND you get root, you won't give a **** about any non-rooted people and only focus on ROMs.
Do you also expect verizon to erect a cell tower near your house and a mini AP in your car so you have perfect service wherever you go?
+1 to everything said above, also learn to search, there is already a root method for 1.49 s-on you idiot. The great devs of our commmunity already found an amazing loop
I LOL at you.
if I were a dev, i would stop working on rooting 1.49 after a post like this.
As a non-dev, I am disheartened to see this type of post in the Development thread. Have you seen the number of posts in the 1.49 leak-root threads? There are currently folks working on two distinct methods of rooting - isn't that proof enough for you? Also, was anyone here responsible for "making" you go to the leaked version? No? Well then why are the dev's responsible for giving you a cookie for the decision you made?
Also, to all of the people that say, "I can't be bothered to read all 100+ pages" or similar - please do. 99.9% of the time you will find the answer to your question within those posts - or hey, try the magical search box.
I personally want to thank the dev's that have been helping us with finding just the right exploit. As you can see, there has been a lot of work looking at the leak, RUU, hboot, and various methods to finally achieve [an easy way to] root the Eris. This community has been extremely helpful, innovative, and downright awesome in helping folks like me learn the ins and outs of the Android System and the Eris. Don't screw it up for the rest of us.
Mean ol' devs..
Y'all BETTER be working on root for Eris, or I'll... I'll..
I'll get REALLY mad..
In all seriousness, the points made in the responses are valid.. Father_Vic chose poor wording to express frustration, and some of his frustrations are borne out of simply being unaware of some things..
Root for 2.1 in general is being sought actively by all sorts of devs and would-be devs. I'm pretty sure there are fewer and fewer devs working directly on Eris, other than to try to make holes found elsewhere a little bit more open to the masses, a la the efforts by Tereg and company.
Are they working on it night and day? Hellz no. After you've tried the same stuff over and over a few times, you move on to either new angles on old stuff, or new stuff, altogether. Otherwise, people call you crazy or naive.
This poll seems like it'd be helpful on the surface, if just to provide reassurance for us poor 1.49ers without root, but the ones that respond affirmatively may or may not be totally clueless when it comes to anything other that running downloaded scripts, and as for the devs that really do understand, well..
Don't worry about this stuff running devs off.. The real devs LOVE to solve problems, because it's like crack cocaine to figure stuff out, and what they really don't give 2 $hitz about is polls..
Can we get this thread moved to General? Not sure that just deleting it would help anybody..
+1 to all said
if you really wanted root than maybe you should learn how to develop and try and find it yourself
I have uncovered the PERFECT root method for 1.49 bootloader. BUT after reading this so called post, I now refuse to ever release it. bwahahaahahahahahahahahahaha
no seriously...come on dude. little...well rude wasnt it.
We (including myself) are all working on it. The root method that exists has an extremely low success rate. We are all trying different things, we are all trying different methods and we are all devoting hours a day to try to bust this thing open. The eris is one of the only phones not rooted by means other than a rooted link. Some of us feel we are going at this alone without any real help from the devs. Plus anytime we have asked if any of the silent devs are working on it or have any suggestions; "flame on" from the rooted majority.
Not entitlement - just wondering if those of us fending for ourselves are getting any help from those who can.
BTW - to assert that we just go ahead and learn what the devs know really is insulting to the devs. All the time, effort, education, and knowledge that they have is not something that we can all just learn to do in a couple of days.
I knew the flame was coming....
Keep going, it actually makes pretty fun reading.

I have a rooted phone, replacement on the way, I'm not getting my hopes up for a 1.47 hboot im sure 1.49 will come unfortunately, and seeing the low success rate with the current root methods I'm afraid im gunna hate my Eris again, and now any devs who were putting their FREE time in to help with something that doesn't even benefit them as they are already rooted. Thanks for pushing people away from helping us, and it's just great that it is all fun and games to u. I understand were u are coming from, but this is just bull crap. thanks for nothin.

Up to this point you seem to almost have found some humility. Keep the attitude portrayed here and maybe send out a few PMs asking for help, politely, you may get somewhere, you may not... I GUARANTEE you get farther than your first post.
And as for some of the rest of your comments, MANY a "dev" has started not with college, but in the exact same place you are.

If it is a referb phone, you have some hope. I just got my Eris replacement (after rooting 2.1), and it was 1.5 with a 1.47 bootloader, so there is some hope.
i was working on root until i saw this post. its idiots like you that piss off the devs and make us go elsewhere.
if you are posting this just for fun, to get the laughs and eat your popcorn, then f&%# off. we dont want you here, demand things from the devs, demanding we speak up so you know who we are. if you really want to know who the devs are, that will most likely be anyone on there with more than 200+ posts. the ones that you know there nicks to because they spend most of their time on here posting to help n00bs like you out getting root, or answering the question of which rom is the best or how to install your bootanimation file.
you really want to know who the devs are? they are the ones that sit in the irc channel all day (chat.andirc.net) and are any of the ops on there, or have a uptime of 72hours straight.
you want me to compose a list of all the devs, and then another list of all the devs working on root for you?
here is that list for you:

I had the same, and installed CM7 without any problems. So I say, just go for it - you gonna love it. If you have any problems installing just ask, and Ill see if I can help (and if I cant, theres about 100 others who can)
Wow rev thanks.. up and running and glad to see so many apps working. Easy stuff with your video.

Yep, I believe the kernal has nothing to do with the android installation, Android has it's own kernel. I have F4 Phantom installed and am having no issues what so ever -- other than the ones that everyone else is having due it's alpha state
Once installed you will be able to choose between android and HP's Web OS after rebooting the device.
If you need a video guide to move 4 files onto a usb drive, run a program in CMD prompt/Terminal, then you really shouldn't be running Alpha software.

I'm getting tired of people using this BS as an excuse for reckless behavior.
Modding/Using something foreign to you without first knowing how it works is being reckless.
We were all new a some point in time.
Just that there are usually instructions with anything you buy or directions on how to perform a procedure. It is called being prudent.
Would you perform surgery on someone without knowing everything that is involved in surgery?
Would you let someone who doesn't know how to drive a car onto the road?
Would you let someone that doesn't know how to cook prepare a meal for you?
I can go on and on.
So why would you risk damaging you precious $$$ device?
Read the directions/manuals and ask questions if you don't understand something. When you fully understand what you are doing and all accompanying risks, then you should proceed with caution.
Being a noob is not an excuse for negligence.

Actually it might be a good idea to remove it as there is a limited amount of space in the /boot partition, so if you've got a ton of kernels or other stuff in there, there may not be enough space left for moboot and cm7's uimage. Shouldn't be an issue if you've only added one kernel though, but just sayin'...
My reply to all of you is this:
THOUSANDS of people bought these CLEARANCE tablets with the intention of getting Android on them. It would be different if this was a $500 tablet and people actually cared about the value. I know that I wouldn't have bought it for anymore than the $100 I spent, and that makes it more of a TOY than anything.
I say that if people want to flash this, there is no reason why it can't be easy. Hundreds of people are saying "Thank you" because they wouldn't have been able to do this without my video. To them, I say "You're Welcome." To the rest of you, if this video bothers you, don't watch it.
Noobs will always exist, I'm just trying to do my part in helping them de-noobify themselves. (is that a word? Well, it is now.) Some of you act like you have to EARN the right to flash this. I don't understand that. People understand the risk and make their decision based on their level of comfort. If I screw something up, I ask for help. If YOU screw something up, YOU ask for help. I think that is the whole purpose of these communities. For those of you who are saying that my video is causing people to come out of the woodwork and ask stupid questions... I say deal with it. Again, what gives you more of a right to try this alpha than anybody else?

I get the feeling that some (myself included) will question this part. There are guides in this forum for nearly everything you asked. Search and I'm sure you'll find them.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511999
Read, Read, Read is my first tip.
Start here, you will find everything for rooting.
Just a heads up as well, the search button and google should become your best friend. This forum is a self service forum, people don't take to kindly to those that don't do their research before posting.

If you are still confused after reading the link yoderk posted, then maybe you should not mess with your phone.
Just spend some time reading. Read more and rarely make new threads. This phone has been out for a while now so if you have a question, it probably has been asked before and answered.
1. It's in the link posted.
2. Turn it on
-no
-yes (unless you fuxxor it up)
3.a Did you google it?
3.b no such thing as "best" or else there would just be 1 ROM and everyone would be using the same one.
4. wifi? sure

Internet will work fine after rooting.
If you just got the phone, I would seriously recommend taking about 2 weeks to read up and figure out what you are doing. Everything is fairly simple once you know the terms and common lingo. Don't jump in and come out with a nice paper weight.

I suppose my previous post was less than helpful. 'pologies.
1) There is a thread that will give you step by step instructions for rooting your phone. "Zedomax" has videos available as well. Check out galaxys2root.com under the AT&T section. Yoderk's post will prove helpful, should you read it.
2) The first thing you should do is turn the phone on Kidding. Backup your apps and data, just in case. Backing things up is usually a good first option no matter what you're doing with your phone.
-- No MicroSD card, no problem. Your phone has a few gigs of memory built into it. Just buy one if you need more storage space on your phone.
-- Internet will work just fine if you root successfully. Same goes for Wifi.
3) The best ROM is the one you like the most. Try them out and see for yourself.
4) I'm not sure what you're asking with this one.

I wouldn't recommend using that method, I would flash entropy's stock package that includes root and cwm via odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
you can find it in the op of that thread.
Ok, thanks
i am sinking all the info now, gettting hang of it
one more quest. is Titanium backup free? and wht is most imp things to back up besides Apps?
I would suggest using it stock for a week, see if it does everything you need it to.
If it does, then just run stock.
That way there's no risk.
If you do decide to flash then like everyone else is saying, read and reread. Spend some time, several days just reading because there might be some little bit of information that you might miss, but is critical to a successful flash.
Good luck and welcome to freedom.

Well you can get the free version but I highly recommend getting the pay version as it saves time hand over foot as it will bulk install all of your apps. As far as apps, maybe sms if you need them that's all I do. Just a word of advise with TB never restore system apps to a different rom, it'll give you a headache.
