3d video editing software - HTC EVO 3D

Looking for a video editor that can edit the 3d video from the evo 3d and keep it in a format that can be uploaded to YouTube.
?

you need any editor that can edit h264 with aac audio within mp4 container
then export as the same, when uploading to youtube just put in the right yt3d keywords
I use Adobe Premiere for mine

The trim software that came with the 3d phone is a great addition. I've used it a lot since shooting with my EVO 3d. It helps to shrink the video's to fit on youtube without needing a wifi connection.

How exactly did you use premier to edit the video? I tried premier it always messed up the format. I think tried the new vegas with 3d support. That would mess up the file as well. tried a few other editing programs with 3d support and none of them even recognize the video as being 3d and try to make it 3d and thus why they all dont do it right.
It always shows up with two views when i try to look at it again on the device, sometimes with four.
I just want to edit together simple clips nothing too crazy.

you don't need 3D editing software, the actual video is 1 file with them side by side, load it in to a 720p project, the video will fit in to that fine, edit as you would normally, then export as 720p too
nothing else to do, it's that simple

Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 Plus HD supports 3D video editing.
I saw this just the other day and the article was in my trash, but here is a link to the article that talks about it and a bunch of other video editors.

ok ive done that already it wont work. The video shows up as two images on the device when I try to watch it. Im trying to edit the video to watch it on my evo 3d. Whenever I upload it to the device directly or to youtube it messes up the 3d and plays with the two pictures and sometimes four side by side.
What export setting are you using besides 720p? Are you able to watch the video on your evo 3d?

when playing press menu > play in 3D
it's the only way to do it at the moment (or end the name of the file with "3D")

What are the Adobe Premiere settings that you are using to edit EVO 3D footage. My project is 1280 x 720, 29,97, 441Hz Compressed. Premiere loads the mp4 into the timeline then Premiere locks up. I am using CS4 Premiere Pro.

I use wondershare ultimate, its like $65 BUT if you know where to look its fr33.
Normally I dont indulge in things of that nature, $65 for software that will be used for me and my phone only (no uploading/sharing) is a little high.
Go ahead flame on, just remember when pointing a finger you have 3 pointing back at you

3D Content Sources

Well, I plan to watch a lot of 3D stuff while I'm on the train and youtube isn't available. I'd like to have a compiled list of how to properly convert videos to 3D in order to be watched on the Evo, (like blu-ray rips etc.) as well as any other 3D sources that pop up such as games or apps.
If anybody has any ideas or insight, post away!
*** delete ***
HD MKV Scene rips play fine in the gallery, actually they are quite fantastic looking, but there is a problem with the sound. I've downloaded several other players and any of them that do play with the sound start to suffer from video lag. If anybody knows how an efficient way to re-encode the audio portion only, which should be substantially quicker than re-encoding a whole video, please share!
I downloaded the Wondershare trial program as somebody had mentioned on another forum. It is EXTREMELY simple to use. You load your video, click the device icon, select Convert to 3D, and it is the second mp4 option (side by side images). Since it was the trial version I could only convert 3 minutes of video, but I tried with HD rips of Modern Family, Family Guy, and Arrested Development. The files took about 3 min to encode and were about 175 mb for 3 min of video (from a ~600mb source mkv). I transferred them to the root dir and opened them in the gallery. You will see side by side images, but if you hit menu there is an option to play in 3D.
For the most part, it was hit or miss depending on the scene. I think the software is not just junk, but actually does what it says. The main problem comes into play where most standard television/films aren't filmed with 3D in mind, and thus do not have optimal viewing angles for depth with rear objects. Also, cameras tend to switch scenes/angles quickly so by the time you realize something is in 3D the camera has switched.. during a dialogue where the camera switches the focus between several actors in a conversation, for example. There were some scenes that really had the 3D effect as if it was completely designed that way.
I'm going to play around with it some more and see if I can come up with anything interesting. Also, encoding to 3D kept the same high quality video (god, this screen is f**king amazing) and fixed the audio problems, and I didn't touch any settings. Open, find file, convert to 3D, no settings or anything besides output folder.
Side note: HTC Sense 3.0 rocks!!! They really got it right this time! I love it so far. I changed my background to a live one which is affected by the weather. There were thunderstorms last night and when I would try to unlock the screen you'd be surfing through the clouds with a lightning affect. I thought it was pretty sweet. The whole UI seems silky smooth.

[Q] Converting 3d videos to play on Evo 3d?

Anyone know of a fairly automated or easy way to convert wmv or other 3d video to play in 3d on the evo? Ive been playing with handbrake and a few others without success. Vids play, but show 2 screens side-by-side. Somehow, something is missing that tells the Evo movie player to play as 3d. Ideas?
Ok nevermind! Solved my own issue. Handbrake seems to work fine. Use guide found here: http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...fer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html#comments_form
Start playing with vid player. While movie is playing, hit menu button. Option to play in 3D\2D appears. Select 3d and continue playing vid! ImDumbSometimes...
I'm curious about this myself.
So the movies you are converting, what format are they in? MKV or some other file type?
Handbrake keeps their formatting (2 videos side-by-side)?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, Handbrake will keep the files in side-by-side. Following the instructions in the knowyourcell linke, you'll typically be converting a MKV into an MP4. But your Gallery app is smart enough that when you watch the video and hit settings-->3D, it'll merge the screens.
HOWEVER, I was never able to get the Handbrake solution to give me good audio. So I tried Freemake and it was very successful and a little faster I think. Here's my writeup:
****TWO PRELIMINARY NOTE: (1) Please note that this is only to be used for 3D video files that you OWN THE RIGHT TO USE. (2) This guide will be most useful to those trying to convert a .MKV file, which is a type of 3D video file that is always (in my experience) "side-by-side" (technically called HALF side-by-side or half-sbs) meaning if you were to play the file on a non-3D device it would simply show two identical videos running side by side. It's THIS kind of 3D file that I've had success with so far; I've had a harder time finding solutions with "top/bottom" (also called "over under" 3D files where one image is ABOVE the other.******
Ok, now that that's out of the way, let's get started
For Starters, You'll Need:
A) The 3D file you want to view on your HTC Evo 3D
B) A connection to the internet
C) Your HTC Evo 3D (of course )
D) Your USB cable to connect your EVO 3D to your computer (this came with the phone)
Next, Your computer will need some Video Conversion Software:
DOWNLOAD: I've heard of several different programs working, but my favorite by far has been Freemake Video Converter, which you can download on your computer by going here by clicking the green "DOWNLOAD" button in the top-right corner of the page. (Once you click the DOWNLOAD button, you'll be sent to CNET.com, a very trusted tech news and download site, so you know it's a safe place to download a file!).
Launch: Launch your freshly-downloaded Freemake Video Converter.
We're halfway done!
Find Files to Convert: Now that the program is open, click either the "+ Video" or "+DVD" button in order to browse your hard drive for the 3D movies you want to make viewable on your EVO 3D. Double click on them to add them to your queue. (Remember, these should be side-by-side 3D videos--probably with file extension .MKV)
Notice how each file you double click on simple gets added to the list (queue) in the big white middle of the program. So Freemake automatically builds a queue and will let you convert ALL your files with one click later on! However, if you just want to convert one file, find it, double click it to put it in your queue, and move on
Once you've lined up your files, go to the bottom of Freemake and click "To Android."
Click the drop-down menu under "Preset", go all the way to the bottom and click "Add Your Preset" (or just click the green plus sign)
Name your new preset "Evo 3D" or something you'll remember, then apply these settings:
- Frame size: size up to
- Width: 960
- Height: 540
-Adjustment: Original
-Video Codec: H.264
-Frame Rate: Original
-Bitrate Type: Custom
-Bitrate (Kbps): 1500
Then for audio, click the "Custom Audio" button and use these settings:
-Audio Codec: AAC
-Channels: Stereo
-Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
-Bitrate: 256
Click OK and it should save your new preset. Now choose the file path that you want to save your new files to (note: you can't change the file names of your converted files at this point). Note that this conversion will leave your original file INTACT and in their ORIGINAL place and simply make converted COPIES.
Click CONVERT and THAT'S IT! You're Done! Check the status bar, but after about 20-50 minutes a regular movie should be done.
Now that conversion is complete:
-Plug in your Evo 3D, access the SD card from your PC, and copy/paste the newly converted file onto your SD card (What most of us do is create a new folder on the SD card called "Video" and then place all our converted files here).
-Use GALLERY to watch your movies--it should find the files automatically. When watching, it will usually start by playing the file as two images side by side. Just make the video fullscreen, THEN hit the options button and choose "3D", confirm, and there you go!
**NOTE: Not all of the above steps/settings may be necessary, and there are probably some great ways to improve it...but this way should get you a pretty good, very cool 3D video on your phone! Although don't forget the end result can never be better than what you start with!**
Thanks again. After I initially replied, I found both your tutorial threads on SU & XDA.
You rock dude. I noticed Handbrake literally made my computer slow to a crawl (100% CPU on multiple cores). I read that the other software you mention actually uses the GPU, which is better IMO.
I used the settings you provided in freemake. They work but I would recommend using a higher bitrate. The Evo 3d records at 1280x720 at 5200kbps at 29fps. At 1500 they are choppy and in some areas show artifacts. You might want to up the bitrate. The difference between the resolution wasn't noticed. Also lowering the frame rate helps save some space.

[Q] Cannot play 3D video after enabling the 3D funciton

Hi all,
I have several videos downloaded from this forum to test the 3D video playback of the EVO 3D.
However, even I have pressed the 3D enable function in the player, those videos are still showing left and right screen together, which have no difference with 2D.
Do any of you have the same experience?
I have tried to import some 3D photos and they are fine.
Thanks

Hi, I tried to watch 3D video from the camera and youtube, both work.
Will it really related to the handset or video format?
Thanks

OK let me explain more
1. For those 3D videos taken from the camera and watch from Youtube. it worked
(no need to enable 3D manually, the player can detect it automatically)
2. For those videos import from PC, not ok.
I tried around 10 files, most of the are downloaded from here, just display the side by side video even turning on 3D. I follow the steps to convert one video from youtube to mp4, but still didn't work.
(need to enable 3D by myself)

what do you mean "turn 3D on"?
are you pressing "menu > play in 3D" when playing the videos?
do the videos have "3D" in their name?

1. Yes, I mean pressing menu--play in 3D
2. The videos have 3D in their name and all of them all SBS video. I am sure theyr are 3D video (watched some of them in the 3DTV before), but no luck when converting them into m4v/mkv file
I have had this happen I just hit menu then 2d then hit menu again 3D and it finally goes

Just add "3D" to the end of any sbs videos and the software will handle it automatically, i was so hyped about the 3d that i watched tons of promo videos and on at least 3 they mentioned evo 3d will recognize sbs videos that are tagged in the title so first thing i did when i got my 3d was load clips with 3D at the end of file name and it just works, no need to fuss with menu

[Q] 3D movie transcoding

I have searched and read guides for handbrake and freemake regarding transcoding for the EVO 3D movies to play on the EVO 3d. My problem is I have tried using a couple different sbs movie files. I will get an end product of movie with video that works with no sound or I have sound with a flashing screen. Any help would be awesome. BTW I followed the guides as to all codec resolution audio etc
Where are the guides located? I've been trying to play 3D movies on it myself
+1 on interest of topic. Would love to have more 3d movies on it.

Yeah, I know it's possible cause my movies are in stereoscopic format, made for "side by side" non-glasses viewing, but it's frustrating I can't find anywhere online how to view them on my 3VO. So I decided it was finally time to join XDA forums
I know one of y'all can help!
It's remarkably confounding: no preloaded app/player for media! (Watch doesn't count as you can only buy/rent and play from their store.) If I could just open the video player and load the 3D movie file, I'm sure it would work... I'm referring to the built-in video player that only opens [for me] when viewing a 3D video that I've recorded, opened from the Gallery... ;-/
@keen77
I used this guide to get 3D movies transcoded to my EVO 3D:
www [dot] goodandevo [dot] net/2011/06/how-to-make-your-existing-3d-videos-play-nice-with-the-htc-evo-3d.html (sorry as a XDA newb I’m not allowed to post links).
[By the way, this is a great website to stay informed on developments concerning your EVO 3D!]
I only don't recommend using Handbrake (on which the article is based) but rather Freemake Video Converter (see way down the same article). Freemake is WAY superior, both in transcoding performance (quality & speed), ease of use and user interface (which could arguably be called "beautiful"). Use the same settings as the article suggests for Handbrake (including changing the resolution to 960x540) and you should be good to go! I only used this on HD videos 1920x1080 with half side-by-side, but it works perfectly on them.
I only have a problem with the fact that some videos at my disposal have the left and right images swapped the wrong way (which off course has nothing to do with the to mentioned video convertors). Watching this is a very confusing experience!
Does someone know how you can easily swap the left and right images in (half) SBS video's? I tried StereoMovie Maker (stereo [dot] jpn [dot] org/eng/stvmkr/index.html), but it stops saving the "swapped file" halfway through the saving process... and besides that the proces involves 3 transcodings (original->avi [Freemake], avi->swapped-avi [StereoMovie Maker], avi->mp4 [Freemake]) which doesn't do the quality any good and is lengthy.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Flipping the phone over corrects the 3D in those cases.
What do you mean "corrects the 3D," and in what cases? Sorry don't follow
Go into the Themes & Apps section for the Evo 3D and loom at the posts stickied. One talks about 3D movies.

I did one up in handbrake today. It was a 1080p side by side. I just dropped the frame down to qhd and then ran it with my normal 3vo settings. It dropped the file size down from 4.7 giggers to just over half a gig.
I have a video folder on my root that I move them info that shows up in the stock gallery app. When playing you need to hit menu and choose view in 3d.
It's a crap movie, but it was the only of the type I could find lol

3D Movies for EVO 3D

This thread is now geared towards gathering insights, ideas, and experience to create the best 3D video for our Evo 3Ds.
If you have best practices for formats 3D movies for this device please share.
If you are willing to experiment and provide feedback, please do.
The hope is that we can take a compilation of everyone's ideas and experience to create the best end product for us all to enjoy!
Has anyone figured out how to format the 3D Movies for the EVO 3D?
How about get the movie to start in the 3D mode on the Media Player?
The Evo plays mpeg4 in 3d I believe. But heres a thread about converting videos.

And if you want to play it in 3d you just need to hit the 3D button on the top right corner I think. Sorry its been a while that I used 3D.

As sleekgreek said, it's to do with the tags in the mp4 file.
the framepacking tag needs to be set to 3 for SBS L&R movies. it's either 4 or 5 for top and bottom, but i can't remember for certain.
You can use videolan's X.264 encoder to do that. but that only puts out H.264 video, so you'd need to then use something else to do your audio and then combine them again into one mp4 container.
the command for x.264 is:
Code:
x264 --frame-packing 3 -o [Input].mp4 [Output].mp4
but like i said, this is video only, so remember to use whatever other tools you use to encode the audio and then recombine.

Using handbrake: use x264 codec, go to "advanced" tab and add
":frame-packing=3"
without quotes into the command box at the bottom. For the other setting just try what best suits your needs.
The file must be .mp4 (just rename) in order to have the 3d/2d switch, this way you can see 2d in right way!
Hit thanks if you've found this useful.

When I try to encode it with Wondershared, it results 4 frames...
How to play it ?
