Dead pixel :'( - HTC EVO 3D

While watching a video, I noticed that in the top right corner of my screen there is a dead pixel. You can't notice it unless you look at the spot....so I don't think I'll try to exchange the phone.
After doing some searching, I couldn't find an app that fit the whole screen that fixes dead pixels but I did find a video on YouTube that may fix the dead pixel and runs in full screen.
Here is the YouTube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvI0ZUPpdJI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Does anyone know how long are you supposed to run this for ? I don't want to damage the rest of the screen by running this too long.

Thanks for the new thread!

FYI, there is an app that will allow you to test for dead pixels. http://goo.gl/o8HXB
It'll start as a white screen. Just keep tapping the screen and it will cycle through multiple colors the sane as that google video you posted above.

I have used that app to locate the dead pixel but I wanted something automatic.....ah well I guess I can tap rapidly....just wasn't sure how long I'm supposed to do that.

Is it just bad luck or something else?

I had to return my g tablet to office depot for having 3 dead pixels. And now the replacement has about 5 dead pixels. Out of the box they were fine. But after using them for about 2 days the dead pixels happen. Both times I was running vegan gingerbread. Also none of them came with screen protectors. So is this just bad luck or something else?
certainly bad luck.
Non of the newer stock has any screen protectors (was confusing owners into thinking they got a faulty screen).
If the dead pixels were newly developed, did you try some of the online dead pixel re-activation applications ? Jscreen fix is one of them but requires java to run so not sure if it would run on the gtab.

How do you find these dead pixels? As the gtab is using a standard mass produced netbook screen, you would think dead pixels would be unlikely. I don't notice any on mine, but then again I haven't really checked each pixel.
I dont look for them, I just notice little black spots on the screen then go to wipe it off but come to find out its the actually screen. Then I get a pixel detecter from the market and then find about 5 others.

You sure you're not just seeing the digitizer substrate?
No, I see the the others dots that are in rows. I just took the second one back to office depot and the tech looked at it and confirmed that they were dead pixels. My next one is getting here Wednesday so hopefully the 3rd one is ok.
Would the software have anything to do with it? Because it seems like when I install Gingerbread they show up.

I guess it wasn't as funny as I thought...
The ROM you install is not likely to be causing bad pixels. Bad pixels happen because manufacturers can't test every component with driving cost up so they ship the items and leave it to the customer to be final quality control. When buying at the low end of the cost spectrum you can expect more defects. The overwhelming majority of people won't even notice a few bad pixels or at least won't care and the manufacturers know that so it's cheaper for them to deal with the few people who do care through customer service than to fix the problem with higher cost parts.

No the rom would not be causing dead pixels. You sound half convinced of this so I figured you should just not install gingerbread anymore.

I wouldn't care if they were just 1 pixel. But its at least 6 dead pixels grouped together and other black dots all of the screen. Ill install gingerbread again and it it happens again Im not going to exchange it at office depot. I will call viewsonic and get them to exchange it.

I'm quite sure you're NOT seeing dead pixels. Just return it, because every one you get is going to look that way. Unless someone drop-kicked it at office depot, of course, that would never pass the electronic inspection at the factory where the panels are made.
And no, the rom/os type won't make any difference.
Return it for a refund, and get something with a different style of LCD.

I am seeing them. The tablets don't come that, they get them about after 2 days. Every time the tech at office depot says its dead pixels and confirms that I can exchange it. I think they just have a bad batch of the ones they stocked their shelves with. They ordered the one thats coming tomorrow so hopefully it is going to be ok. Like I said before, If it happens again, I am sending it to viewsonic.

Well, that's even more odd. I have NEVER heard of an LCD developing dead pixels days later. Ever.
Good luck with it, whatever it is.

What a day...I'm on my 3rd EvO3D

1st customer @ RS and my first phone has a dead pixel in the upper-right hand corner(very noticeable on dark screens). I get an exchange. Take this one home and there's a dead pixel in the circle around the menu button. On top of that, they never switched the serials, so I couldn't activate. Not even Sprint could help me, they said to return the phone to RS. I'm now on my 3rd(no dead pixels).
To be honest guys, the phone is cool but I'm glad there wasn't as much hype surrounding this one cause I don't have that same feeling I had when I got the EvO4G. Maybe it's bc I've been running Sense 3.0 for months now
The 3D is pretty cool, I took some shots with it and once you know where to look, pix look great in 3D. One thing that is annoying me is the screen color. That yellowish tint is disgusting! I guess I'm used to the 'cool' temp in the nova panel I have on the OG EvO. I guess I'll see how I feel within the 30 days *shrug*

I've got 2 of 4 to exchange too. One has a bad power button and the other had dead pixels on the top right hand corner... Both are Hardware version 002.
I'm was contemplating doing the same thing but I just got done weighing this 4oz snickers bar and its coming in at 3.97 so I might as well shoot two birds with one stone.
Hehehe seriously though to know you have one bad pixel will just kill you everytime you use the phone. I'd take it back too. Thats like buying a brand new car that had a scuff on it!
I saw this thread and downloaded Dead Pixel Test just to see if I had one. I do, I found it near the bottom right of the screen. I'll probably wait till the 30days is almost up and return it for a new one. I'm not too concerned about one dead pixel that I probably wouldn't have noticed anyway. Hopefully though they'll have the next HW revision out be then, they did with the OG EVO, and I can get one of the newer versions. I'll give it a bit and see if these early HW versions have the issues the OG EVO had.
No dead pixels here.

dead pixel

So it appears that I have a dead pixel. I can't really tell. It's definitely not on the surface, so it's either dust underneath the screen or its a dead pixel. But it's a very very tiny black spot, right on the white part of the clock on the homescreen. Should I take this baby back? I can probably live with it for 2 years...i guess...it's just knowing it's there that bugs me. There's no danger of more dead pixels is there? Is one dead pixel indication that more may happen?

If the pixel is the only screen issue I'd say keep it. Swapped mine only to get one with a dead pixel somewhere else and now I also have the dreaded yellow cloud towards the bottom of the screen. So count yourself lucky if that's the worst of your problems. Take care.

Judging from the review on the market, NO. But, I haven't used it personally. however, I would think if something bad happened, you would see a ton of bad reviews talking about this.
HI, I just wanted to add something to the list of problems that the new evo is having, yesterday i went to the sprint store to buy an evo lte, but i couldnt take any home, since all of them were plagued by dead pixels, the sprint rep open six boxes and all of them had a least one dead pixel, I went home very frustrated i cant understant how HTC uses cheap screens on its premiun devices, I am one of the guys that cant stand to know to have a dead pixel on my screen, since once you know its there is a pain not to look at it. So i will keep going to every sprint store until i find one with no dead/stuck pixels. It may take months but ill be worth it. I personally suggest and encourage that you guys download the app called dead pixel test, and try to find any dead/stuck pixels on your screens if you do find some, take your device to sprint and return it, and get a new one without any deffect, lets make htc to stop giving us cheap quality parts in our premiun devices, we are paying a lot of money so we deserve to have a device with not deffects. I can understand a dead pixel on a tv screen because is big, but on a small screen is unacceptable!!!. Please tell me what you guys think about it, and please bear with my english since is not my first language. Thank you

Dead pixels and LCD screens go hand in hand. Its the nature of the beast. Just wait and see when the GS3 gets release.
I noticed last night that I had like 2 or 3 dead pixels
i can probably understand a dead/stuck pixel on a big screen but on a small screen is just unacceptable.
JFYI, I ran the dead pixel test on my old 3D and had some obvious ones on that phone, but I just ran it on this one and what I thought was a dead pixel was just a speck of dust. Kept thinking I was seeing them and kept being able to just wipe them off. Sounds dumb but try it.
well my experience with this phone has been a nightmare i have been to 5 sprint stores around my area including best buy, and i have checked 24 htc evos lte and all of them had a least one dead pixel on then, im really frustrated with htc for this, i really like the phone but im starting to think that all of you phones have a dead/stuck pixel as well but you havent check it throughly. i really want a evo lte but i not longer wish to fight with the sprint reps for going over and over and keep returning phones for this. i am not crazy maybe im just having bad luck, but its embarrasing going back to the store and all the reps looking at me like (i dont want to sell you anything), oh i really hate my luck. but i hate htc the most for using cheap screens on this phone.
Wow, I have a slight bit of the yellow cloud toward the bottom of my screen, and I thought about going to try and swap it... but from what I'm hearing about the amount of devices out there with dead pixels, I think I'm going to keep the one I have since there are no dead pixels on it. I've checked.
You may want to report these issues to Sprint either by calling them or by posting on their forums.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. My phone doesn't seem to have any issues at all. Curious to run that app, but don't want to be disappointed and find something wrong with my phone,,,

Even more likely just Sony's notorious quality control issue.
Wait! They calibrates each single mark 3 display individually isn't it? .
I really think this is just effect of their personal screen calibration of each unit.
Or a side effect haha!
