Movie on dell streak - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I goin abroad on sunday and my question is... cos my flight will be 4H long and I would like to watch movies on my streak anyone know how long battery will work? on flightmode ofcourse
cheers

Your phone lasts probably 2 to three times longer on flight mode, I went to Turkey about a month ago, and it the flight was about 4 hours, I watched a film, 3 episodes of cougar and played games and listen to music the rest of the time. Still had about 50% battery left :-D

Your battery life will depend a lot on how bright you have the screen.
There are battery powered and rechargeable devices that you can use to get extra life (or an extra battery).

Battery recommendation for 8525?

Hi,
I'm noticing the battery life really suffers when the weather is cold. Right now, the phone will run out of batteries on standby with Push Email within 5 hours on a full charge.
I'm looking for another battery for it. Does anyone have any recommendations? I bought one of those high capacity ones on Ebay but it doesn't fit well so the phone will turn off sometimes because of bad contact. Needless to say, I'm not impressed with those Ebay batteries on sale everywhere.
Recommendations?
Thanks,
al8525wu
I've had this for about a week:
3200mAh EXTENDED BATTERY FOR CINGULAR 8525
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=609
My only complaint is the size. It will make your phone about 1.5 times thicker. Although it is nicer to hold while writing txt or email messages. I love the fact that I can now play music while working for hours and not worry about battery life in a 3G area.
How many days do you go between charges?
a larger capacity battery may lead you change your back lid to a real...real strange one

I just got the same thing for my phone! Takes a few days to get used to the hump on hte phone, but its sooooo awesome!
My 8525 is over a year old and i was getting 10 hours of use out of it before it would shutdown.
Put this battery in and i charged it Thursday night...made a few calls and internet lookups on friday...saturday the same and sunday the same...Maybe 2 hours total talk time and 3 hours on teh internet. Then sunday evening it was around 40% and i finally got it down to 10% after running slingbox on it for 90 minutes while playing some call of duty 4 on the pc!
The only annoying thing is it chirps for low battery for HOURS if you arent using it.
I'd say this realy makes the phone alot more fun and functional. Previously i would minimize playing games or ineternet browsing or slingplayer watching, now i can do it whenever and as long as i want and its very unlikely the phone will be dead before i go to bed!

[Q] Mozart battery life

Hi!
How long does your Mozart work.
My settings: WiFi & BT are off / Exchange sync is permanent.
Around 30 mins calling time a day.
Battery is empty during the afternoon. It simply does not "survive the day" and has to be recharded. Is my device not ok, or do you have the same experience?

Are you on telstra network perhaps?
I read something on the internet about a bug in the Exchange service, it reestablishes the connection every minute, so thats why you battery is empty so fast. (probably)
HTC is working on the problem. but if you are on a Telstra network there is a workaround http://blog.walshie.me/2010/11/15/htc-mozart-telstrabattery-issues-solved/
Hope this helps
I was not too pleased about the battery myself, but it was never as bad as what you're reporting!
I've always had Wifi turned on and use Exchange email... and have been continuously using the media player or an app or game now and then... and it lasts me a full day... There was once or twice when i had been continuously at it that it had 20% left by evening...
I posted about it on the forums too and someone said it'll automatically adjust itself... i was a bit skeptical, but today it still has 60% battery left and it is 12:15 AM now...! (though i did have Wifi turned off for the most part today)
Hello everyone
I have the htc mozart one month offered by the girlfriend. I used the mobile phone several times and even with wifi and bluetooth on and always lasted one day (24h) without problems. yesterday charged at 24h and at 15h had no battery. had not even turned on wifi or bluetooth. since then the battery does not last anything I do not know what happened but its not and nomal. Somebody now something about? This its really a joke but I know that the battery lasts well over

were you in an area with poor cell reception? if yes, that would affect the battery because the phone is constantly working to maintain a signal. i'm using an 1800 mAh battery from Mugen and it's easily lasting 32+ hours with 1 Push Exchange account, BT/Wifi off, 2 POP accounts (1 hour retrieval times) and about 40-80 minutes of calls when i'm in an area with a strong signal. i spent two weeks at a client site where i could barely get 1 Bar (and most often had "No Service) and the same battery would be depleted in about 18 hours. when working in an area with great cell reception, battery life is great for my use. on 2 occasions i forgot to charge the phone overnight and had about 15% battery left when i woke the next morning. in case you're wondering, i'm using the HTC TestTool - Battery Tool (v1.20.0.0) to determine battery percentage. you can find in in the WP7 forums.
I'm using the phone as I have always used but something happened that makes the battery last while. without stirring overnight stays with half in morning
i leave in portugal and use optimus
sotty bad english

That the point you living in area where the cell phone reception is really bad!! It's same for me when I go to my Island in carraibe !!But where I living Paris and London I can keep the battry 100% at 7h in the morning till late in evening around 2h at 20%; Using all day Wifi, TV, Game... So the issue about battery is not the phone but carrier issue.
Because when I take a "Metro" or "Tube" where the reception are really bad my battery drainning fast....
For me it last for a day, since i don use 3g n wifi, i use followin settings.
3g turned off
wifi turned off
Always try to close the running apps using the back key.
everynite i switch my phone to low brightness, so that i don need much time in charging my phone in the morning b4 i leave to work.
with every settings turned on the battery last for 15-17 hours.
hope they fix the battery issue in the comming update.
With heavy usage 9-10 hours battery life for me.3g,4 e-mail account.One is push,the others checking every 15 minutes(almost getting 150 e-mails every day).1 hour talk time,Web browsing over 3G,listening music 30-45 mins,playing games 15 mins.(Brighness medium,location service all on)
using dark back grounds will help save power, but everyone nows that dont they.
Except it won't help with Mozart. It only works for AMOLED displays, Mozart has an LCD.
it has at least awesome standby time...
the red light once began to flash when i went to sleep.
when i got up around 9-10h later the phone was still on.
only bluetooth was off...
even more standby power, im back to report:
3+ DAY STANDBY!
i charged my phone friday 02-11-2011
untill today (tuesday) it still lasted,
same-time as last-charge 02-15-2011
thats incredible 4 days...
WLAN was OFF the most time
3G on
only did around 4-7 2min calls
didnt play much with it,
only quickly checking for news in market from time to time
had 2 reboots because of that
and did around 5 pictures.
i think its pretty awesome times...
yeah with heavy usage its only 1 day
but still its a phone and its standby is great
There's no surprise that the phone lasts long when you don't do anything with it.
As far as I can see, the battery annihilating combination is browsing the web via 3G. Guess IE was optimized for speed to impress with responsiveness. This probably won't change much until IE9 comes (which may or may not help). The power-hungry screens are a universal problem on all current HTC devices, with WP7 and Android equally, so this won't change.
The real killer is WI-FI, i upgraded to the MUGUN 1800MiH Battery, and im not looking back, it lasts way more than 50% longer than the standard battery did.
for £28 with free delivery, you'd be silly not to buy it.
also, as an aside, the Battery arrived within 4 days from HONGKONG, which is great because it advertised that the battery would have a 10 - 15 day shipping time.
Okay... what if
had 50% power left the night before...
after 6 hours sleep
phone is out of battery @@
Now that aint right, im guessing something is running under locked screen and iono what!!! but i always jump out of any program when im about to sleep too, so it cant be because of that
In the past, i could have standby time for a long period especially after one night. But the past two days when i woke up, it always ran out of battery!!
the first two days when i got my mozart it died on me due to low battery. but when i upgraded it to nodo(i think), the battery is longer now. but i will check some more.
my battery usually lasts 24 hours. But when I open htc weather, starts to pick up GPS signal if I leave soon have a very abnormal wear of the battery.
I tried with other Porgram gps and the same happens, the battery does not last 10h

Titan and battery life

Hello, I'm just wondering how long does your Titan last and how do you find battery life. I read all over the internet a lot of people very happy with Titan's battery, but mine is quite bad. I'd like to understand whether it's just my phone which has problems or it's normal.
How long does your phone last? Could you describe the average use you do during this time (do you have gps, bluetooth, wifi, push-mail and stuff on or off? How many calls, text messages, web browsing, games and such?).
Because I just realized that I can use it with all options on and xbox live and get from 100% to 10% in an hour and a half... Is it normal?
My Titan lasts two full days (around 48 hours) of normal use. I never use Bluetooth but wifi etc it always on.
Playing games drains the battery quickly so I often hook it up to power when I play gfx intense games.
Overall I am very pleased with the bettery life of the Titan. I get about the same usage with the Titan as I did with the Mozart. The bigger battery clearly makes up for the bigger screen.
Ok, games drain battery quickly, but less than two hours is too quick, in my opinion... That was why I was asking for other experiences. Thanks for your answer anyway.
I leave bluetooth and wifi on all the time, do about 2 hours worth of web browsing per day, listen to about 30 minutes of music per day, send a few texts, about 10 mins of voice calls and sync all accounts every hour, battery lasts me comfortably a whole day. HOWEVER if I am in a poor reception area for cellular, my battery life is significantly degraded because the phone is continuously hunting for a signal, this has been a problem on every phone I have ever owned including my nokia 3310!
Well, today I went out with 100%. I left gps and wifi off and 3G on. I listened to music half an hour, browsed the web for another half an hour, used Freda for reading a book another half an hour and then used othe apps with internet connection for ten minutes (no games though). After three (3) hours I was at 50%... I didn't see any lack of signal so I don't think that could be the reason. I'm not sure but I think there's something wrong with my device...
Since I couldn't find any difference before and after the update I don't think it's a software problem. Do you think that replacing the battery could be a solution?
Do you think this is a good reason to contact HTC for support?
Did you check the list of background tasks?
Maybe some app keeps doing something in the background, draining your battery?
Do you mean the list you find on options/settings->applications->background activities (or something similar, I'm translating from my language, maybe on the English version it's different)? There's only gmaps there and it's disabled.

Yes, that is the one I meant. How much battery life do you not get when playing games though?
Well, I just got from 90 to 80 in ten minutes. It's like games drain 1% each minute. This would mean around one hour and a half to get from 100% to auto-shut down... Now I'll see how it goes with playing videos...
I played with games for a little more than half an hour and got from 78% to 38%. So it's still a rate of 1% per minute... How is it for you?
For videos it lasted more, it drained around 4% for ten minutes of playing. I guess this is acceptable, or not?
I'd try not playing games or videos - just use it for email, some browsing etc... but without the intensive usage of games and videos. See how long the battery lasts then. Mine lasts for at least a day with normal use, sometimes up to 2 days if not used too much (although push email always on in the background, and some other apps with live tiles etc...).
Games do drain it pretty quick IMHO.
I think you should let the battery expose for a few more days and maybe there will be improvements like a break-in thing. imho, the battery is used more when playing games 'coz it needs more drive from the 1.5GHZ processor. As for playing videos/internet, it doesn't require much power from the processor and suppose that it doesn't even have flash so more conservation of power to it.
Today I haven't played nor watched any video. I used internet on 3G (marketplace and explorer, one mail in push), read a couple of pdfs and not much more (gps, bluetooth and wifi off all the time but twenty minutes). I unplugged it at 10am and at 5pm it went in saving battery mode (less than 20%) and I had to plug it one hour later because red blinking light was there. I had some doubts but now I would say there's something wrong almost for sure...

That is not good at all, I get way more than that, you may have a faulty phone.

That is very poor, I am getting great battery life and I have two email running all the time, facebook, twitter, using wifi, texting, internet etc etc. Get that battery replaced at the very least.
But I'm afraid it might not be just a problem of the battery, it might be the whole hardware which is faulty. I mean, i could buy a new battery and discover that it doesn't solve the problem, that would be a waste of money... Maybe I'm paranoid, but today I experienced even bad experience with phone calls, I couldn't hear the other speaking nor he could hear me and I had to call back three times for less than ten minutes of phone call. I read someone else had similar problems, so I fear it might be a faulty phone and not only the battery... But I haven't had other calls, maybe it was just a coincidence.
Just a quick survey. When you unplug the phone at 100%, before you start using it (without wifi, web browsing, application and stuff) how long does it say it will last? Because as soon as I unplug it I get a 13-15 hours, which aren't very much I think... Considering it should be considered almost standby mode...
Your battery will be covered under warranty by Htc, contact them and tell them the problems your having!
I did and they told me to do some procedures (like taking off the battery while the phone is turned off, or uninstall all apps or reset the device). I'm trying to do this things, if I can't solve I will call them again.
Yeah, that's their standard spiel for any battery problems. I would insist on a replacement handset - how long have you had it?
Hi!
I just got the Titan yesterday.
I haven't had to charge my phone since then! It came with around 78% charged battery. I've synced about 6 emails, 3 social networking with my phone. Downloaded few apps, games, plenty of text messages, couple of phone calls. I've also customised and changed settings etc. Did plenty of youtube and internet browsing. Played Angry birds for about 16 odd levels, played unite for nearly an hour. Today it second day of the phone and I've got 26% battery remaining. Haven't had to plug in the phone at all!
Oh I did plug in the phone for brief time. That's when I downloaded the recent update via Zune. The whole update procedure took nearly 15-20 minutes, so for those minutes my phone was connected via USB. I don't know how much charge or drain this installation of update and restart might have caused.
In a nutshell - The battery life is much better than those nice reviews on the internet.

My battery test is underway-Complete! 9+ hours video!

I decided to run my own battery test this morning. I created a 720p video copy from my Cars blu-ray. Copied to my Evo LTE, and started playing it on MX video player. It will play the movie over and over until I stop it. I'm trying to simulate watching video on a long flight, so I put it into airplane mode. Brightness is set to auto.
So far, the video has been playing 3 hours and 25 minutes. My battery is showing 66% remaining. So far so good. If the battery percentage is accurate, I should get 9+ hours out of this, possibly 10. I'll keep it running and see how long it goes.
Mark
Awesome! Can't wait for your results.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
It's been playing for 6 hours now and the battery has 40% left. The phones seems to use about 10% per hour. Let's see if it will get up to 10 hours.
So far, I'm very impressed. My old Evo didn't last long at all playing videos during my plane flights.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the 720p video looks amazing!!!!
Mark
Ok, so I stopped the video when my phone hit 10% battery life. The phone continued to use approximately 10% of the battery life per hour. So the final play time was 9 hours and 8 minutes. It would be very close to 10 hours if I kept going. Excellent battery life if you ask me!
(the screen shot was taken after plugging the phone in to start charging her back up. that's why you see 11% and the charging icon)

Not to shabby. It can only get better with some custom ROMs & Kernels, to maximize battery life.

Really? He gets ten hours out of a mobile phone playing 720p video and all you got is "Not too shabby"? When my Galaxy Tab was new I did a test with a video at native resolution in airplane mode and got like 5 hours of video. Considering the size of both batteries, I'd say ten hours is fricken bloody phenomenal.
As a different comparison of usage, I played about 3.5 hours of video over wi-fi on my LTE on Friday. The first half hour was through the flash player, and the latter 3 hours via the twitch.tv app. I did also have it off the charger for like 9 hours entirely and made a short phone call too. Not only is the battery on the LTE amazing, the frugalness of the hardware in using it is also.

lol. +1. This is so true and funny
Here are the video details if anyone is curious. I'm not sure if things like bit rate affect battery life.
just for comparison.
i did a similar test with my OG Evo, 4 hours it would play movies then it shut off at 0%
OP, your results are impressive. Can you post more information? I'd like to know about the audio stream. And also at what speaker volume were you playing the movie?

How long does your smartphone battery last?

I hear people smart phone last about 2 days before needing to charge. That's approximately 48 hours of phone staying on. Lets be realistic here. How many hours do you get if you browse/stream online videos for about 2 hours, play games for 2 hours and 20 minute of calling a couple of text and email. How long does your phone actually last? Mines last only 4/5 hours and this is using it very heavy. If your phone really do last more than a day, does that mean you barely touch it? This is just something I always have in mind.. I have the Optimus slider from virgin mobile, and the battery sucks but if I barely touch it, I can get about maybe 11 hours.. Lol, I know that's laughable.
3-4 days usually i am not a heavy user ,moderate browsing, calling and texting on the heavyish side, i don't play games or stream videos
battery capacity is very good at 3500 mAh and the phone is excellent in terms of draining battery on standby, barely anything.
it could probably go to 5th day if i cared to use Eco mode (battery saving mode) but i always charge the pone when it falls bellow 40%
all in all i am happy with it + this is my first smartphone ever so i think its good compared to flip phones i used in the past.
