The best way I have seen to fix this is this,
1 stand up
2 pick up Mac
3 walk to your garage
4 found a hammer
5 beat the living hell out of your Mac
6 go to the store and get anything with windows on (vista will even be ok as its an upgrade for you)
7 download Odin and profit
Nah just messing with you man

I have read it doesn't work because my fascinate doesn't have a proper (secondary) bootloader. How/where do I remedy this?
Just as a note for all, the official Heimdall thread on xda is not a good place to ask questions about it. I asked a very straight forward question which I do not think has already been answered in the thread. Not a single reply... not even a troll!
Well, it's hard to help you when you fail to provide details.
Start with this thread for how to use heimdall: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746
Tell us what you did that caused the issue. Then let us know if you can get into download mode on the phone. Also, what package are you trying to use to restore? You need a FULL Odin package like EB01 if your secondary boot-loader is indeed missing.

Planning on picking up a note next week, I've looked at the dev page for root instructions but I can't really make heads or tails of them and all of the videos I view seems to be the international version. Can anyone confirm of root or is is a work in progress and I should just wait.
It works via odin and is really easy

Just rooted mine using the steps from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218
Coming from a Dell Streak this was a whole different process but it was really easy.
Now, seems the rooting/unrooting of the European version does not makes your rom count go up (please excuse my lack of proper terminology) therefore you can return your phone to stock (ex. for a warranty claim) without Samsung knowing you have mess with the rom. Is that the same for this version and if not is that in the works? How about unrooting the phone?
Thanks.
I have yet to hear one single actual case where Samsung denied a hardware claim because of the counter. People are going root counter crazy around here. C'MON ITS XDA! This is why we are all here, right??

You have to download the file. There are links to everything you need in Da_G's root threads in the dev section. Download, extract, then browse to the file via Odin, just like you tried above.
Edit: Actually with this one you don't even need to extract it. Its already a .tar file.

Hi
I'm sure you get this a lot, but I really suck at this. Its my third week surfing these forums and I still can't put a step by step guide in my head on how to root it. A lot of the phrases are out of my understanding, so I'm going to ask and hope someone replies
Here's what I got : Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100. Android 4.0.3 , Kernel 3.0.15-I9100XXLPS-CL294511, Build number IML74K.XXLPS
The question is this : Can I root it with 1 click? Truly, without searching for some drivers and stuff I'm not sure I'll find.
Please be aware that I really suck at this, and that I'm basically rooting my phone for Market Enabler and to remove that thing that pops when you double tap center key, the voice command thing, drives me nuts.
Thank you and have a great day!

Use the XX_OXA_LPS CF-Root kernel to root. (find it by doing a "find on page" on the thread) Follow the instructions in post 1.
You will need Kies installed, but not running, for drivers. (or the standalone Samsung USB drivers) Both or either can be found easily with a Google search.
Hey,
Thank you for your quick reply! I do have Kies, as it came on the phones SD card
I will give this a go right now, thank you again for saving me moar weeks of search <3

?? Your phone's SD card?
You know I meant Kies to be installed on your PC, right?
Hey,
Yeah I know. When I purchased the phone I found Kies installation on the SD card, and installed it on the PC. Was the same with Desire HD, I found HTC Sync installation on the SD card. I thought it was normal

That method does not work for newer releases of 2.3.6 or higher. That includes ICS. Which the OP is on. So it would not work for him.
Just flash in PDA of Odin the cf-root kernel of your firmware

That is a common problem, and why many questions end up getting asked over and over and over, and how people end up not being able to find VERY easily findable information.

I didn't download it to check, but just watching the video, (at 3:02) the command window that pops up clearly says "Easy rooting toolkit (v2.0) created by DooMLoRD" up at the top, followed by "Modified by Max Lee @ GalaxyS2Root.com". (I believe Max Lee is zedomax, but I don't know for sure)
I don't know what this Max Lee fellow changed, but I'm willing to bet that the actual exploit used to gain root is exactly the same, yes.

That's because it doesn't matter if USB debugging is on or off for Odin flashes.
I have an at&t s2 I777.....it is rooted one i guess (it was gifted)..
I want the ICS on it...and believe me i know nothing about how to get it....
i googled and found many people explaining the process for a windows PC version.
I have a mac and if some one would please care to explain (step-by-step is much appreciated)..i attach the present status of the I777...
Thanks....
Senior members will probably scream SEARCH at you 'til blue in the face, so I'll throw you a bone since I've been stalking for far too long.
This (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878686) is a guide to Heimdall (basically Odin for Mac) find a kernal to flash (I started with Siyah http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19650906&postcount=1) and follow the Heimdall guide to flash to your GS2. Next you can download any ICS Rom (I've been using ShoStock2 since version 1.1) to your phone and flash the zip using CWM (there are a plethora of guides on this should you need it, so search.)
Check out my thread, no need for a computer to flash the update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722064
I would suggest you follow the guide linked in my signature. It has instructions for using heimdall with the mac.
Do *not* install Siyah 3.4 on your phone if you are running Gingerbread stock or modified firmware. You can not use an ICS kernel with a Gingerbread system.
If you have any questions or problems as you work through the guide, feel free to post your questions in that thread.
Edit: if you already have ClockworkMod Recovery on the phone, then you can just download the firmware distribution you want and flash it in recovery.

I've been looking through XDA,Rootzwiki, and AndroidForums to try to find what most people thought the best method to root was. I came to the conclusion that using the "Casual" one-click method seems to be the consensual best. I have a problem with it not recognizing my phone. I know that the drivers are installed correctly because Odin recognizes it but for some reason this exploit program WILL NOT. I've noticed reading through the threads that there were a couple other people having this same issue but haven't heard an answer yet. If anyone needs to know anymore about my situation to help me, feel free to ask. Thank you in advance for the advice. This is why I love this community.
